Optimality Conditions in Differentiable Vector Optimization via Second-Order Tangent Sets

We provide second-order necessary and sufficient conditions for a point to be an efficient element of a set with respect to a cone in a normed space, so that there is only a small gap between necessary and sufficient conditions. To this aim, we use the common second-order tangent set and the asymptotic second-order cone utilized by Penot. As an application we establish second-order necessary conditions for a point to be a solution of a vector optimization problem with an arbitrary feasible set and a twice Fréchet differentiable objective function between two normed spaces. We also establish second-order sufficient conditions when the initial space is finite-dimensional so that there is no gap with necessary conditions. Lagrange multiplier rules are also given. Functional inequalities and subordination: stability of Nash and Poincaré inequalities

We show that certain functional inequalities, e.g. Nash-type and Poincaré-type inequalities, for infinitesimal generators of C ₀ semigroups are preserved under subordination in the sense of Bochner. Our result improves earlier results by Bendikov and Maheux (Trans Am Math Soc 359:3085–3097, 2007, Theorem 1.3) for fractional powers, and it also holds for non-symmetric settings. As an application, we will derive hypercontractivity, supercontractivity and ultracontractivity of subordinate semigroups.

Optimality conditions with state constraints for semilinear systems determined by operator valued measures

In this paper we develop the necessary conditions of optimality for a class of distributed parameter systems (partial differential equations) determined by operator valued measures and controlled by vector measures. Based on some recent results on existence of optimal controls from the space of vector measures, we develop necessary conditions of optimality for a class of control problems. The main results are the necessary conditions of optimality for problems without state constraints and those with state constraints. Also, a conceptual algorithm along with a brief discussion of its convergence is presented.     

Invertibility of Bergman Toeplitz operators with harmonic polynomial symbols

Let p be an analytic polynomial on the unit disk. We obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for Toeplitz operators with the symbol z + p to be invertible on the Bergman space when all coefficients of p are real numbers. Furthermore, we establish several necessary and sufficient, easy-to-check conditions for Toeplitz operators with the symbol z + p to be invertible on the Bergman space when some coefficients of p are complex numbers.

On Metric Boundedness Structures

Many years ago, S.-T. Hu gave necessary and sufficient conditions for a family of subsets of a metrizable space X to be the family of bounded sets for some admissible metric for the space. In this article, we show that in any noncompact metrizable space there are uncountably many distinct metric boundedness structures. Also, given an initial metric d for X, we look carefully at the problem of characterizing those boundedness structures determined by metrics uniformly equivalent to d. Applications to hyperspaces are given. Throughout, we rely on a dual approach to the study of metric boundedness.     

Necessary and sufficient conditions for the inversion of linearly-perturbed bounded linear operators on Banach space using Laurent series

Using a Laurent series representation, we present a detailed discussion of necessary and sufficient conditions for the inversion of linearly-perturbed bounded linear operators on Banach space that are singular in the unperturbed state.     

COMPLEX SYMMETRIC TOEPLITZ OPERATORS ON THE UNIT POLYDISK AND THE UNIT BALL

In this article, we study complex symmetric Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space and the pluriharmonic Bergman space in several variables. Surprisingly, the necessary and sufficient conditions for Toeplitz operators to be complex symmetric on these two spaces with certain conjugations are just the same. Also, some interesting symmetry properties of complex symmetric Toeplitz operators are obtained.

Robust stochastic dominance and its application to risk-averse optimization

We introduce a new preference relation in the space of random variables, which we call robust stochastic dominance. We consider stochastic optimization problems where risk-aversion is expressed by a robust stochastic dominance constraint. These are composite semi-infinite optimization problems with constraints on compositions of measures of risk and utility functions. We develop necessary and sufficient conditions of optimality for such optimization problems in the convex case. In the nonconvex case, we derive necessary conditions of optimality under additional smoothness assumptions of some mappings involved in the problem.

Pointwise mutipliers of Orlicz function spaces and factorization

In the paper we find representation of the space of pointwise multipliers between two Orlicz function spaces, which appears to be another Orlicz space and the formula for the Young function generating this space is given. Further, we apply this result to find necessary and sufficient conditions for factorization of Orlicz function spaces.     

On sum and stability of g-frames in Hilbert spaces

In this paper, we give some new results on sum and stability of g-frames in Hilbert spaces. Since the finite sum of g-frames may not be a g-frame for the Hilbert space, we give a necessary and sufficient condition and some sufficient conditions for the finite sum of g-frames to be a g-frame. We also show that every g-sequence in Hilbert space can be expanded to a tight g-frame by adding a linear bounded operator. Moreover, we obtain some sufficient conditions under which g-frames (and the finite sum of g-frames) are stable under small perturbations.     

Existence of optimal policy for time non-homogeneous discounted Markovian decision programming

In this paper we discuss the discrete time non-homogeneous discounted Markovian decision programming, where the state space and all action sets are countable. Suppose that the optimum value function is finite. We give the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an optimal policy. Suppose that the absolute mean of rewards is relatively bounded. We also give the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an optimal policy.     

Linear regularity and ?-regularity of nonconvex sets

In this paper, we discuss some sufficient conditions for the linear regularity and bounded linear regularity (and their variations) of finitely many closed (not necessarily convex) sets in a normed vector space. The accompanying necessary conditions are also given in the setting of Asplund spaces.
