The method of the phase plane is emploied to investigate the solitary and periodic traveling waves for a class of nonlinear dispersive partial differential equations. By using the bifurcation theory of dynamical systems to do qualitative analysis, all possible phase portraits in the parametric space for the traveling wave systems are obtained. It can be shown that the existence of a singular straight line in the traveling wave system is the reason why smooth solitary wave solutions converge to solitary cusp wave solution when parameters are varied. The different parameter conditions for the existence of solitary and periodic wave solutions of different kinds are rigorously determined.  相似文献

A long waves-short waves model is studied by using the approach of dynamical systems. The sufficient conditions to guarantee the existence of solitary wave, kink and anti-kink waves, and periodic wave in different regions of the parametric space are given. All possible explicit exact parametric representations of above traveling waves are presented. When the energy of Hamiltonian system corresponding to this model varies, we also show the convergence of the periodic wave solutions, such as the periodic wave solutions converge to the solitary wave solutions, kink and anti-kink wave solutions, and periodic wave solutions, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper, the effects of quadratic singular curves in integrable wave equations are studied by using the bifurcation theory of dynamical system. Some new singular solitary waves (pseudo‐cuspons) and periodic waves are found more weak than regular singular traveling waves such as peaked soliton (peakon), cusp soliton (cuspon), cusp periodic wave, etc. We show that while the first‐order derivatives of the new singular solitary wave and periodic waves exist, their second‐order derivatives are discontinuous at finite number of points for the solitary waves or at infinitely countable points for the periodic wave. Moreover, an intrinsic connection is constructed between the singular traveling waves and quadratic singular curves in the phase plane of traveling wave system. The new singular periodic waves, pseudo‐cuspons, and compactons emerge if corresponding periodic orbits or homoclinic orbits are tangent to a hyperbola, ellipse, and parabola. In particular, pseudo‐cuspon is proposed for the first time. Finally, we study the qualitative behavior of the new singular solitary wave and periodic wave solutions through theoretical analysis and numerical simulation.  相似文献

Wave propagation in a generalized microstructure PDE, under the Mindlin relations, is considered. Limited analytic results exist for the occurrence of one family of solitary wave solutions of these equations. Since solitary wave solutions often play a central role in the long-time evolution of an initial disturbance, we consider such solutions here (via normal form approach) within the framework of reversible systems theory. Besides confirming the existence of the known family of solitary waves, we find a continuum of delocalized solitary waves (or homoclinics to small-amplitude periodic orbits). On isolated curves in the relevant parameter region, the delocalized waves reduce to genuine embedded solitons. The new family of solutions occur in regions of parameter space distinct from the known solitary wave solutions and are thus entirely new. Directions for future work are also mentioned.  相似文献

In this paper, traveling waves with different frequencies and velocities can be constructed by three wave method. Some new exact solitary and periodic solitary solutions are obtained for the Fifth-Order Sawada–Kotera equation using three wave type method via Hiröta bilinear form. The solutions investigated by three wave method are more than solutions by others method such as homoclinic test method.  相似文献

An analysis of traveling wave solutions of partial differential equation (PDE) systems with cross-diffusion is presented. The systems under study fall in a general class of the classical Keller–Segel models to describe chemotaxis. The analysis is conducted using the theory of the phase plane analysis of the corresponding wave systems without a priory restrictions on the boundary conditions of the initial PDE. Special attention is paid to families of traveling wave solutions. Conditions for existence of front–impulse, impulse–front, and front–front traveling wave solutions are formulated. In particular, the simplest mathematical model is presented that has an impulse–impulse solution; we also show that a non-isolated singular point in the ordinary differential equation (ODE) wave system implies existence of free-boundary fronts. The results can be used for construction and analysis of different mathematical models describing systems with chemotaxis.  相似文献

We obtain some existence results for traveling wave fronts and slowly oscillatory spatially periodic traveling waves of planar lattice differential systems with delay. Our approach is via Schauder's fixed-point theorem for the existence of traveling wave fronts and via S1-degree and equivarant bifurcation theory for the existence of periodic traveling waves. As examples, the obtained abstract results will be applied to a model arising from neural networks and explicit conditions for traveling wave fronts and global continuation of periodic waves will be obtained.  相似文献

In order to investigate bounded traveling waves of the Burgers-Huxley equation, bifurcations of codimension 1 and 2 are discussed for its traveling wave system. By reduction to center manifolds and normal forms we give conditions for the appearance of homoclinic solutions, heteroclinic solutions and periodic solutions, which correspondingly give conditions of existence for solitary waves, kink waves and periodic waves, three basic types of bounded traveling waves. Furthermore, their evolutions are discussed to investigate the existence of other types of bounded traveling waves, such as the oscillatory traveling waves corresponding to connections between an equilibrium and a periodic orbit and the oscillatory kink waves corresponding to connections of saddle-focus.  相似文献

The Benjamin-Bona-Mahony (BBM) equation represents the unidirectional propagation of nonlinear dispersive long waves, which has a clear physical background, and is a more suitable mathematical and physical equation than the KdV equation. Therefore, the research on the BBM equation is very important. In this article, we put forward an effective algorithm, the modified hyperbolic function expanding method, to build the solutions of the BBM equation. We, by utilizing the modified hyperbolic function expanding method, obtain the traveling wave solutions of the BBM equation. When the parameters are taken as special values, the solitary waves are also derived from the traveling waves. The traveling wave solutions are expressed by the hyperbolic functions, the trigonometric functions and the rational functions. The modified hyperbolic function expanding method is direct, concise, elementary and effective, and can be used for many other nonlinear partial differential equations.  相似文献

This paper concerns with the traveling wave solutions of a nonlinear reaction-diffusion-advection model for describing the spatiotemporal evolution of bacterial colony pattern. We use different methods for computing the traveling wave fronts of the model equations. One of the methods involves the traveling wave equations. Numerical solutions of these equations as an initial-value problem lead to accurate computations of the wave profiles and speeds. The second method is to construct the time-dependent solutions by solving an initial-moving boundary-value problem for the PDE system, showing an approximation for such wave fronts, in particular, the minimum speed traveling wave.  相似文献

We study a singularly perturbed system of partial di erential equations that models a one-dimensional array of coupled Chua's circuits. The PDE system is a natural generalization to the FitzHugh-Nagumo equation. In part I of the paper, we show that similar to the FitzHugh-Nagumo equation, the system has periodic traveling wave solutions formed alternatively by fast and slow flows. First, asymptotic method is used on the singular limit of the fast/slow systems to construct a formal periodic solution. Then, dynamical systems method is used to obtain an exact solution near the formal periodic soluion. In part II, we show that the system can have more complicated periodic and chaotic traveling wave solutions that do not exist in the FitzHugh-Nagumos equation.  相似文献

We derive the Whitham modulation equations for the Zakharov–Kuznetsov equation via a multiple scales expansion and averaging two conservation laws over one oscillation period of its periodic traveling wave solutions. We then use the Whitham modulation equations to study the transverse stability of the periodic traveling wave solutions. We find that all periodic solutions traveling along the first spatial coordinate are linearly unstable with respect to purely transversal perturbations, and we obtain an explicit expression for the growth rate of perturbations in the long wave limit. We validate these predictions by linearizing the equation around its periodic solutions and solving the resulting eigenvalue problem numerically. We also calculate the growth rate of the solitary waves analytically. The predictions of Whitham modulation theory are in excellent agreement with both of these approaches. Finally, we generalize the stability analysis to periodic waves traveling in arbitrary directions and to perturbations that are not purely transversal, and we determine the resulting domains of stability and instability.  相似文献

Variational methods are employed to generate families of both regular and embedded solitary wave solutions for a generalized Pochammer PDE that is currently of great interest. The technique for obtaining the embedded solitons incorporates several recent generalizations of the usual variational technique and is thus topical in itself. One unusual feature of the solitary waves derived here is that we are able to obtain them in analytical form (within the family of the trial functions). Thus, a direct error analysis is performed, showing the accuracy of the resulting solitary waves. Given the importance of solitary wave solutions in wave dynamics and information propagation in nonlinear PDEs, as well as the fact that only the parameter regimes for the existence of solitary waves had previously been analyzed for the microstructure PDE considered here, the results obtained here are both new and timely.  相似文献

The main aim of this paper is to study the exact traveling wave solutions of the generalized Kudryashov–Sinelshchikov equation by using the auxiliary equation method based on the conclusion of qualitative analysis. The advantage of this method is to choose the effective and proper auxiliary equation on the base of the behaviors and traits of solutions revealed by analysis of phase portraits to study the solution of differential equations. By applying the proposed approach to the generalized Kudryashov–Sinelshchikov equation, the number, behavior and existence of smooth and non-smooth traveling wave solutions are gained, at the same time, the new exact smooth solitary, periodic wave solutions and cusp solitary, periodic wave solutions are obtained. From the dynamic point of view, the behavior of traveling wave solutions is analyzed. The profile, type and the form of exact expression of traveling wave solutions are influenced by the order of nonlinear term and nonlinear terms.

We construct new examples of traveling wave solutions to the bistable and balanced semilinear parabolic equation in \input amssym ${\Bbb R}^N+1$ , $N\geq 2$ . Our first example is that of a traveling wave solution with two non planar fronts that move with the same speed. Our second example is a traveling wave solution with a nonconvex moving front. To our knowledge no existence results of traveling fronts with these type of geometric characteristics have been previously known. Our approach explores a connection between solutions of the semilinear parabolic PDE and eternal solutions to the mean curvature flow in \input amssym ${\Bbb R}^N+1$ .  相似文献

Traveling wave solutions have played a vital role in demonstrating the wave character of nonlinear problems emerging in the field of mathematical sciences and engineering. To depict the nature of propagation of the nonlinear waves in nature, a range of nonlinear evolution equations has been proposed and investigated in the existing literature. In this article, solitary and traveling periodic wave solutions for the (2 + 1)-dimensional modified KdV-KP equation are derived by employing an ansatz method, named the enhanced (G′/G)-expansion method. For this continued equation, abundant solitary wave solutions and nonlinear periodic wave solutions, along with some free parameters, are obtained. We have derived the exact expressions for the solitary waves that arise in the continuum-modified KdV-KP model. We study the significance of parameters numerically that arise in the obtained solutions. These parameters play an important role in the physical structure and propagation directions of the wave that characterizes the wave pattern. We discuss the relation between velocity and parameters and illustrate them graphically. Our numerical analysis suggests that the taller solitons are narrower than shorter waves and can travel faster. In addition, graphical representations of some obtained solutions along with their contour plot and wave train profiles are presented. The speed, as well as the profile of these solitary waves, is highly sensitive to the free parameters. Our results establish that the continuum-modified KdV-KP system supports solitary waves having different shapes and speeds for different values of the parameters.  相似文献

Stationary solutions of reversible evolutionary equations of mechanics with higher derivatives are analysed. A two-dimensional graphical method for investigating the solutions of systems of ordinary differential equations is described, which enables one to find special types of solutions: periodic waves, solitary waves and the structures of discontinuities. At the same time, solitary waves can be obtained by taking the limit of sequences of periodic waves and the structures of discontinuities obtained by taking the limit of sequences of solitary waves. This general approach has enabled the existence of all earlier predicted structures to be verified has enabled new types of structures (three-wave structures) to be revealed and has enabled all the necessary conditions at the discontinuities to be found. All the previously known types of solitary waves are found and new types of solitary waves are revealed (generalized ordinary and 1:1 multisolitons). Methods of finding generalized solitary waves, including those with a finite amplitude of the periodic component, are determined. Examples of the solution of the following problems are given for a fourth-order system: generalized solitary waves as the limiting solutions of two-wave resonance solutions, generalized solitary waves and the structure of a discontinuity with three waves, a 1:1 soliton and the structure of a discontinuity with a single radiated wave, a solitary wave with fixed propagation velocity, and the structure of a discontinuity in the form of a kink with radiation. A generalized 1:1 soliton and the structure of a discontinuity with two radiated waves is considered in the case of sixth-order systems. The discussion is mainly based on the example of travelling waves described by the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equations. Other models with complex dispersion (a plasma and a stratified fluid) are also considered.  相似文献
