An acoustic-optics programmable dispersive filter (AOPDF) was first employed to actively control the linearly polarized femtosecond pump pulse frequency chirp for supercontinuum (SC) generation in a high birefringence photonic crystal fiber (PCF). By accurately controlling the second order phase distortion and polarization direction of incident pulses, the output SC spectrum can be tuned to various spectral energy distributions and bandwidths. The pump pulse energy and bandwidth are preserved in our experiment. It is found that SC with broader bandwidth can be generated with positive chirped pump pulses except when the chirp value is larger than the optimal value, and the same optimal value exists for the pump pulses polarized along the two principal axes. With optimal positive chirp, more than 78% of the pump energy can be transferred to below 750 nm. Otherwise, negative chirp will weaken the blue-shift broadening and the SC bandwidth.  相似文献

An optimal feedback control of broadband frequency up-conversion in BBO crystal is experimentally demonstrated by shaping femtosecond laser pulses based on genetic algorithm, and the frequency up-conversion efficiency can be enhanced by ∼16%. SPIDER results show that the optimal laser pulses have shorter pulse-width with the little negative chirp than the original pulse with the little positive chirp. By modulating the fundamental spectral phase with periodic square distribution on SLM-256, the frequency up-conversion can be effectively controlled by the factor of about 17%. The experimental results indicate that the broadband frequency up-conversion efficiency is related to both of second harmonic generation (SHG) and sum frequency generation (SFG), where the former depends on the fundamental pulse intensity, and the latter depends on not only the fundamental pulse intensity but also the fundamental pulse spectral phase.  相似文献

We investigate numerically the influence of the pressure on femtosecond filamentation in air. We show that femtosecond filamentation occurs at low pressure and compute the features of the plasma channel generated in the wake of the pulse. We discuss the influence of the pulse duration, chirp and input beam shape on the length of the plasma channels. These calculations constitute a prerequisite for laboratory experiments over short distances as well as for vertical femtosecond filamentation at high altitude on which light detection and ranging techniques or lightning protection rely.  相似文献

飞秒激光成丝超连续辐射具有高强度和高时空相干性等优点,作为一种超宽带光源在很多领域都具有广泛的应用前景.本文提出一种结合微透镜阵列的空间调制和基于液晶空间光调制器的时域整形的飞秒激光脉冲整形方式,利用基于遗传算法的反馈优化控制,实现了飞秒激光在熔融石英中成丝产生的超连续辐射强度的调制,得到了在一定范围内光谱强度可控的超连续辐射光谱;光谱的能量密度可以从0.03μJ/nm调制到0.09μJ/nm,其能量密度变化达到了初始值的3倍.计算了典型迭代代数对应的整形脉冲时域包络,分析了超连续光谱随迭代代数的演化趋势,结果表明,脉冲包络的峰值强度和波形分布是影响超连续光谱展宽和强度的主要物理原因.  相似文献

Effects of pulse chirping on the dynamic of supercontinuum (SC) spectra generated by femtosecond laser pulses at 800 nm in calcite are studied. When an 80 fs laser pulse is stretched to more then 130 fs by introducing positive or negative chirp, a strong and sharp spectral peak in the blue wing of the SC spectra is generated. The wavelength of this spectral peak is tuned by introducing chirp and pulse energy.  相似文献

The competition between femtosecond laser pulse induced optical breakdown and femtosecond laser pulse filamentation in condensed matter is studied both experimentally and numerically using water as an example. The coexistence of filamentation and breakdown is observed under tight focusing conditions. The development of the filamentation process from the creation of a single filament to the formation of many filaments at higher pulse energy is characterized systematically. In addition, strong deflection and modulation of the supercontinuum is observed. They manifest themselves at the beginning of the filamentation process, near the highly disordered plasma created by optical breakdown at the geometrical focus. Supercontinuum generation by femtosecond filaments in air is investigated for different laser wavelengths ranging from ultraviolet to infrared. Particular attention is paid on the role of third-harmonic generation and temporal steepening effects, which enlarge the blue part of the spectrum. A unidirectional pulse propagation model and nonlinear evolution equations are numerically integrated and their results are compared. Apart from the choice of the central wavelength, we emphasize the importance of the clamped intensity reached by self-guided pulses, together with their temporal duration and propagation length as key players acting on both supercontinuum generation of the pump wave and emergence of the third harmonic. Maximal broadening is observed for large wavelengths and long filamentation ranges.  相似文献

Self-compressed (SC) pulses have been achieved through the filamentation process in air without any additional dispersion compensation, using the input pulse chirp as the control parameter. For any studied input pulse energy (3-5 mJ), we have found two opposite sign input group-delay dispersion values for which SC pulses can be achieved systematically. In addition, we have observed that the energy coupled into the inner core of the filament is always of the order of 20% of the total input pulse energy, which opens the way to a scalable technique to obtain intense short pulses directly from the filamentation process.  相似文献

The soliton spectral tunneling(SST) effect, as a soliton spectral switching phenomenon, enables a soliton to tunnel through a spectrally limited regime of normal dispersion in the fiber with multiple zero dispersion wavelengths(ZDWs).Since initial chirp can affect the behavior of pulse evolution, we numerically study the influence of chirp on the SST in the process of supercontinuum(SC) occurring in a photonic crystal fiber(PCF) with three ZDWs. The linear chirp is imposed by a phase modulation of input pulse while maintaining a constant pulse duration. Interestingly, it is found that the spectral range and flatness can be flexibly tuned by adjusting the initial chirp value. More specifically, positive chirp facilitates soliton self-frequency shifting(SSFS), making the soliton quickly transfer from one anomalous dispersion regime to another accompanied by the generation of dispersive waves(DWs). In this case, the SST effect further expands the spectral range by enhancing both the red-shift of the fundamental soliton and the blue-shift of DWs, thus generating a broader SC. However, negative chirp suppresses the SST effect, resulting in a smoother SC at the expense of bandwidth.Therefore, the findings in this work provide interesting results relating to the influence of initial chirp on the SST to generate a considerably smoother and broader SC, which is extremely useful in many applications, such as wavelength conversion and SC generation.  相似文献

基于非线性薛定谔方程,数值研究了色散平坦渐减光纤中非线性啁啾脉冲的传输及超连续谱的产生。研究结果表明,初始啁啾对脉冲传输及超连续谱产生的影响与泵浦条件和光纤参量的选取有很大关系。当色散平坦渐减光纤具有小的归一化二次色散系数时,适当的正啁啾能显著增强超连续谱的带宽,而负啁啾和太大的正啁啾抑制超连续谱的带宽。能增强超连续谱带宽的正啁啾有一个较宽的范围,但随着输入脉冲孤子阶数的降低,该范围将变窄。当色散平坦渐减光纤具有大的归一化二次色散系数同时输入脉冲为低阶孤子时,初始啁啾对超连续谱带宽的增强效果不明显,初始啁啾接近为0时可产生最宽的超连续谱。  相似文献

We have studied the effect of various types of systematic and non-systematic errors on unbalanced spectrally modified interferometric autocorrelation signals for detection of pulse chirp and asymmetry of ultrashort laser pulses. The effect of systematic errors arising due to limited number of data points per fringe, scan rate etc, and non-systematic errors due to phase noise, additive noise, multiplicative noise and quantization of interferometric autocorrelation (IAC) signals is illustrated using a linearly chirped asymmetric laser pulse. It is seen that the spectrally modified IAC signals based on difference of normalized envelope functions corresponding to different frequencies are not much sensitive to various noises, permitting their use for sensitive detection of pulse chirp and asymmetry. The analysis is supported by experimentally recorded IAC signals under different conditions.  相似文献

We present experimental and theoretical results on white-light generation in the filamentation of a high-power femtosecond laser pulse in water and atmospheric air. We have shown that the high spatio-temporal localization of the light field in the filament, which enables the supercontinuum generation, is sustained due to the dynamic transformation of the light field on the whole transverse scale of the beam, including its edges. We found that the sources of the supercontinuum blue wing are in the rings, surrounding the filament, as well as at the back of the pulse, where shock-wave formation enhanced by self-steepening takes place. We report on the first observation and demonstration of the interference of the supercontinuum spectral components arising in the course of multiple filamentation in a terawatt laser pulse. We demonstrate that the conversion efficiency of an initially narrow laser pulse spectrum into the supercontinuum depends on the length of the filament with high intensity gradients and can be increased by introducing an initial chirp. We experimentally studied properties of traveling-wave excitation and traveling-wave pulse compression for a Nd : glass laser system with a streak camera. These properties were extended to second-harmonic generation with a type-11 KDP crystal. We found that the second-harmonic pulse generated from the chirped-fundamental pulse also has a good chirp linearity, but the spectral bandwidth and temporal duration were reduced. We demonstrated the effective subpulse suppression in the compressed pulse with the second-harmonic generation. The pulse with tilted wave front, short wavelength and high contrast ratio can be obtained by the second-harmonic generation of traveling-wave pulse.  相似文献

High-order harmonics and attosecond pulse generation with coherent wake emission are theoretically investigated for the effect of pulse duration and carrier envelope phase (CEP) of few-cycle laser pulse. We find that short pulse duration will cause the negative chirp for the high harmonics. When the laser pulse is shortened to a few cycles, the influence of the laser CEP on the chirp of the harmonics will also become more prominent.  相似文献

The gas-filled hollow-core fiber compression and the optical filamentation technique are compared experimentally in a parameter regime suitable for intense few-cycle pulse generation. In particular, pointing stability, spectral properties, and spatial chirp are investigated. It is found that in the case of filamentation, the critical parameter for pointing stability is gas pressure inside the generation cell whereas for the hollow-core fiber it is alignment that plays this role. The hollow-core fiber technique yields spectra that are better suited for chirped-mirror pulse compression whereas filamentation offers higher throughput and prospects for easy-to-implement self-compression. We present spectral phase interferometry for direct electric-field reconstruction (SPIDER) measurements that directly show the transition in the spectral phase of the output continua into the self-compression regime as the gas pressure is increased. Different conical emission (CE) patterns are obtained experimentally at various incident powers and beam sizes of pump laser pulses with pulse durations of 7fs, 44fs and 100fs. The results show that it is the incident power but not the incident power density that determines a certain CE pattern. In addition, the critical powers for similar CE patterns are nearly the same for the laser pulses with the same spectral bandwidth. Furthermore, as far as a certain CE pattern is concerned, the wider the spectral bandwidth of pump laser pulse is, the higher the critical power is. This will hopefully provide new insights for the generation of CE pattern in optical medium.  相似文献

This work reports a temporal characteristic of a laser pulse undergoing filamentation in air. The diagnostic method is based on two-photon fluorescence measurement. The results show that the pulse duration, chirp rate and beam radius could be simultaneously quantitatively retrieved. This simple technique would be useful in practice to trace the underlying dynamics of filamentation in air.  相似文献

We present theoretical results on the characteristics of pulses generated by a synchronously pumped dye laser. Our analysis indicates the important influence of spontaneous emission on shape and frequency chirp of the pulse. Dye-laser operation is possible within a wide range of cavity mismatch. A large mismatch of the lengths of the dye and the pump-laser cavity results in the generation of noise bursts caused by the influence of spontaneous emission. At small cavity mismatch pulse profile and frequency chirp of the pulse are directly generated in the steady-state regime by algebraic equations. Our formulas indicate that the sign of the pulse chirp depends only on the sign of the shift between laser frequency and centre frequency of the amplifying transition.  相似文献
