Given a map f: XY and a Nielsen root class, there is a number associated to this root class, which is the minimal number of points among all root classes which are H-related to the given one for all homotopies H of the map f. We show that for maps between closed surfaces it is possible to deform f such that all the Nielsen root classes have cardinality equal to the minimal number if and only if either N R[f]≤1, or N R[f]>1 and f satisfies the Wecken property. Here N R[f] denotes the Nielsen root number. The condition “f satisfies the Wecken property is known to be equivalent to |deg(f)|≤N R[f]/(1−χ(M 2)−χ(M 10/(1−χ(M 2)) for maps between closed orientable surfaces. In the case of nonorientable surfaces the condition is A(f)≤N R[f]/(1−χ(M 2)−χ(M 2)/(1−χ(M 2)). Also we construct, for each integer n≥3, an example of a map f: K n N from an n-dimensionally connected complex of dimension n to an n-dimensional manifold such that we cannot deform f in a way that all the Nielsen root classes reach the minimal number of points at the same time.  相似文献

We consider the nonlinear Sturm–Liouville problem
(1)
where λ > 0 is an eigenvalue parameter. To understand well the global behavior of the bifurcation branch in R + × L 2(I), we establish the precise asymptotic formula for λ(α), which is associated with eigenfunction u α with ‖ u α2 = α, as α → ∞. It is shown that if for some constant p > 1 the function h(u) ≔ f(u)/u p satisfies adequate assumptions, including a slow growth at ∞, then λ(α) ∼ α p−1 h(α) as α → ∞ and the second term of λ(α) as α → ∞ is determined by lim u → ∞ uh′(u). LetM be a Kaehler manifold of real dimension 2n with holomorphic sectional curvatureK H≥4λ and antiholomorphic Ricci curvatureρ A≥(2n−2)λ, andP is a complex hypersurface. We give a bound for the quotient (volume ofP)/(volume ofM) and prove that this bound is attained if and only ifP=C P n−1(λ) andM=C P n(λ). Moreover, we give some results on the volume of of tubes aboutP inM. Work partially supported by a DGICYT Grant No. PS87-0115-CO3-01.  相似文献

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the uniformly non-l n (1) property of Musielak-Orlicz sequence spacesl Φ generated by a sequence Φ=(ϕn:n⩾l) of finite Orlicz functions such that for eachn∈ℕ. As a result, forn 0⩾2, there exist spacesl Φ which are only uniformly non-l n (1) fornn 0. Moreover we obtain a characterization of uniformly non-l n (1) and reflexive Orlicz sequence spaces over a wide class of purely atomic measures and of uniformly non-l n (1) Nakano sequence spaces. This extends a result of Luxemburg in [19]. Submitted in memory of Professor W. Orlicz  相似文献

Consider G=Z 22 as the group generated by two commuting involutions, and let be a smooth G-action on a smooth and closed manifold M. Suppose that the fixed point set of Φ consists of two connected components, F n and F n-1, with dimensions n and n−1, respectively. In this paper we prove that, if in the fixed data of Φ at least two eigenbundles over F n have dimension greater than n, and at least one eigenbundle over F n-1 has dimension greater than n−1, then the action (M,Φ) bounds equivariantly.It is well known that, if is a smooth involution on a smooth and closed m-dimensional manifold M m such that the fixed point set of T has constant dimension n, and if m > 2n, then (M m ,T) bounds equivariantly; this fact was proved by R. E. Stong and C. Kosniowski 27 years ago. As a consequence of our result, we will see that the same fact is true when, besides n-dimensional components, the fixed point set contains additional (n−1)-dimensional components.  相似文献

A K1,k-factorization of λKm,n is a set of edge-disjoint K1,k-factors of λKm,n, which partition the set of edges of λKm,n. In this paper, it is proved that a sufficient condition for the existence of K1,k-factorization of λKm,n, whenever k is any positive integer, is that (1) m ≤ kn, (2) n ≤ km, (3) km-n = kn-m ≡ 0 (mod (k^2- 1)) and (4) λ(km-n)(kn-m) ≡ 0 (mod k(k- 1)(k^2 - 1)(m + n)).  相似文献

In this work we generalize the case of scalar curvature zero the results of Simmons (Ann. Math. 88 (1968), 62–105) for minimal cones in Rn+1. If Mn−1 is a compact hypersurface of the sphere Sn(1) we represent by C(M)ε the truncated cone based on M with center at the origin. It is easy to see that M has zero scalar curvature if and only if the cone base on M also has zero scalar curvature. Hounie and Leite (J. Differential Geom. 41 (1995), 247–258) recently gave the conditions for the ellipticity of the partial differential equation of the scalar curvature. To show that, we have to assume n ⩾ 4 and the three-curvature of M to be different from zero. For such cones, we prove that, for nslant 7 there is an ε for which the truncate cone C(M)ε is not stable. We also show that for n ⩾ 8 there exist compact, orientable hypersurfaces Mn−1 of the sphere with zero scalar curvature and S3 different from zero, for which all truncated cones based on M are stable. Fix integers n, x, k such that n≥3, k>0, x≥4, (n, x)≠(3, 4) and k(n+1)<( n n+x ). Here we prove that the order x Veronese embedding ofP n is not weakly (k−1)-defective, i.e. for a general SP n such that #(S) = k+1 the projective space | I 2S (x)| of all degree t hypersurfaces ofP n singular at each point of S has dimension ( n /n+x )−1− k(n+1) (proved by Alexander and Hirschowitz) and a general F∈| I 2S (x)| has an ordinary double point at each PS and Sing (F)=S. Let Λ={λ 1⋅⋅⋅λ s ≥1} be a partition of an integer n. Then the Ferrers-Young diagram of Λ is an array of nodes with λ i nodes in the ith row. Let λ j ′ denote the number of nodes in column j in the Ferrers-Young diagram of Λ. The hook number of the (i,j) node in the Ferrers-Young diagram of Λ is denoted by H(i,j):=λ i +λ j ′−ij+1. A partition of n is called a t-core partition of n if none of the hook numbers is a multiple of t. The number of t-core partitions of n is denoted by a(t;n). In the present paper, some congruences and distribution properties of the number of 2 t -core partitions of n are obtained. A simple convolution identity for t-cores is also given.   相似文献

This work is concerned with the proof of Lp -Lq decay estimates for solutions of the Cauchy problem for utt -λ2(t)b2(t)/Δu =0. The coefficient consists of an increasing smooth function λ and an oscillating smooth and bounded function b which are uniformly separated from zero. The authors‘ main interest is devoted to the critical case where one has an interesting interplay between the growing and the oscillating part.  相似文献

The so-called weakly d-Koszul-type module is introduced and it turns out that each weakly d-Koszul-type module contains a d-Koszul-type submodule. It is proved that, M ∈ W H J^d(A) if and only if M admits a filtration of submodules: 0 belong to U0 belong to U1 belong to ... belong to Up = M such that all Ui/Ui-1 are d-Koszul-type modules, from which we obtain that the finitistic dimension conjecture holds in W H J^d(A) in a special case. Let M ∈ W H J^d(A). It is proved that the Koszul dual E(M) is Noetherian, Hopfian, of finite dimension in special cases, and E(M) ∈ gr0(E(A)). In particular, we show that M ∈ W H J^d(A) if and only if E(G(M)) ∈ gr0(E(A)), where G is the associated graded functor.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the refinement equations of the form
where the vector of functions ϕ=(ϕ 1..., ϕ r ) T is in (L p (ℝ s )) r , 1⩽p⩽∞, a(α), α∈ℤ s is a finitely supported sequence of r × r matrices called the refinement mask, and M is an s × s integer matrix such that lim→∞ M-n = 0. In order to solve the refinement equation mentioned above, we start with a vector of compactly supported functions φ 0∈(L p (ℝ s )) r and use the iteration schemes f n :=Q a n φ 0, n=1,2,..., where Q n is the linear operator defined on (L p (ℝ s )) r given by
This iteration scheme is called a subdivision scheme or cascade algorithm. In this paper, we characterize the Lp-convergence of subdivision schemes in terms of the p-norm joint spectral radius of a finite collection of some linear operators determined by the sequence a and the set B restricted to a certain invariant subspace, where the set B is a complete set of representatives of the distinct cosets of the quotient group ℤs/Mℤs containing 0.  相似文献

LetK be a field, charK=0 andM n (K) the algebra ofn×n matrices overK. If λ=(λ1,…,λ m ) andμ=(μ 1,…,μ m ) are partitions ofn 2 let wherex 1,…,x n 2,y 1,…,y n 2 are noncommuting indeterminates andS n 2 is the symmetric group of degreen 2. The polynomialsF λ, μ , when evaluated inM n (K), take central values and we study the problem of classifying those partitions λ,μ for whichF λ, μ is a central polynomial (not a polynomial identity) forM n (K). We give a formula that allows us to evaluateF λ, μ inM(K) in general and we prove that if λ andμ are not both derived in a suitable way from the partition δ=(1, 3,…, 2n−3, 2n−1), thenF λ, μ is a polynomial identity forM n (K). As an application, we exhibit a new class of central polynomials forM n (K). In memory of Shimshon Amitsur Research supported by a grant from MURST of Italy.  相似文献

A closed topological n-manifold M n is of S 1-category 2 if it can be covered by two open subsets W 1,W 2 such that the inclusions W i M n factor homotopically through maps W i S 1M n . We show that the fundamental group of such an n-manifold is a cyclic group or a free product of two cyclic groups with nontrivial amalgamation. In particular, if n = 3, the fundamental group is cyclic.   相似文献

In order to get further insight on the Weyl’s formula for the volume of a tubular hypersurface, we consider the following situation. Letc(t) be a curve in a space formM λ n of sectional curvature λ. LetP 0 be a totally geodesic hypersurface ofM λ n throughc(0) and orthogonal toc(t). LetC 0 be a hypersurface ofP 0. LetC be the hypersurface ofM λ n obtained by a motion ofC 0 alongc(t). We shall denote it byC PorC Fif it is obtained by a parallel or Frenet motion, respectively. We get a formula for volume(C). Among other consequences of this formula we get that, ifc(0) is the centre of mass ofC 0, then volume(C) ≥ volume(C),P),and the equality holds whenC 0 is contained in a geodesic sphere or the motion corresponds to a curve contained in a hyperplane of the Lie algebraO(n−1) (whenn=3, the only motion with these properties is the parallel motion). For a general (real) parameter, let M nbe the M-estimator and M n (1) be its one-step version (based on a suitable initial estimator M n (0)). It is known that, under certain regularity conditions, n(M n (1)-M n)=O p(1). The asymptotic distribution of n(M n (1)-M n) is studied; it is typically non-normal and it reveals the role of the initial estimator M n (0).Work of this author was partially supported by the Office of Naval Research, Contract No. N00014-83-K-0387  相似文献

Let F(z)=∑ n=1 A(n)q n denote the unique weight 6 normalized cuspidal eigenform on Γ0(4). We prove that A(p)≡0,2,−1(mod 11) when p≠11 is a prime. We then use this congruence to give an application to the number of representations of an integer by quadratic form of level 4.   相似文献

On any compact Riemannian manifold (M,g) of dimension n, the L 2-normalized eigenfunctions φ λ satisfy ||fl||Cl\fracn-12\|\phi_{\lambda}\|_{\infty}\leq C\lambda^{\frac{n-1}{2}} where −Δφ λ =λ 2 φ λ . The bound is sharp in the class of all (M,g) since it is obtained by zonal spherical harmonics on the standard n-sphere S n . But of course, it is not sharp for many Riemannian manifolds, e.g., flat tori ℝ n /Γ. We say that S n , but not ℝ n /Γ, is a Riemannian manifold with maximal eigenfunction growth. The problem which motivates this paper is to determine the (M,g) with maximal eigenfunction growth. In an earlier work, two of us showed that such an (M,g) must have a point x where the set ℒ x of geodesic loops at x has positive measure in S*xMS^{*}_{x}M. We strengthen this result here by showing that such a manifold must have a point where the set ℛ x of recurrent directions for the geodesic flow through x satisfies |{ℛ} x |>0. We also show that if there are no such points, L 2-normalized quasimodes have sup-norms that are o(λ (n−1)/2), and, in the other extreme, we show that if there is a point blow-down x at which the first return map for the flow is the identity, then there is a sequence of quasimodes with L -norms that are Ω(λ (n−1)/2).  相似文献

We explore connections between Krein's spectral shift function ζ(λ,H 0, H) associated with the pair of self-adjoint operators (H 0, H),H=H 0+V, in a Hilbert spaceH and the recently introduced concept of a spectral shift operator Ξ(J+K *(H 0−λ−i0)−1 K) associated with the operator-valued Herglotz functionJ+K *(H 0−z)−1 K, Im(z)>0 inH, whereV=KJK * andJ=sgn(V). Our principal results include a new representation for ζ(λ,H 0,H) in terms of an averaged index for the Fredholm pair of self-adjoint spectral projections (E J+A(λ)+tB(λ)(−∞, 0)),E J((−∞, 0))), ℝ, whereA(λ)=Re(K *(H 0−λ−i0−1 K),B(λ)=Im(K *(H 0−λ-i0)−1 K) a.e. Moreover, introducing the new concept of a trindex for a pair of operators (A, P) inH, whereA is bounded andP is an orthogonal projection, we prove that ζ(λ,H 0, H) coincides with the trindex associated with the pair (Ξ(J+K *(H 0−λ−i0)K), Ξ(J)). In addition, we discuss a variant of the Birman-Krein formula relating the trindex of a pair of Ξ operators and the Fredholm determinant of the abstract scattering matrix. We also provide a generalization of the classical Birman—Schwinger principle, replacing the traditional eigenvalue counting functions by appropriate spectral shift functions.  相似文献
