A new benzodithiophene (BDT)‐based polymer, poly(4,8‐bis(2‐ethylhexyloxy)benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene vinylene) (PBDTV), was synthesized by Pd‐catalyzed Stille‐coupling method. The polymer is soluble in common organic solvents and possesses high thermal stability. PBDTV film shows a broad absorption band covering from 350 nm to 618 nm, strong photoluminescence peaked at 545 nm and high hole mobility of 4.84 × 10?3 cm2/Vs. Photovoltaic properties of PBDTV were studied by fabricating the polymer solar cells based on PBDTV as donor and PC70BM as acceptor. With the weight ratio of PBDTV: PC70BM of 1:4 and the active layer thickness of 65 nm, the power conversion efficiency of the device reached 2.63% with Voc = 0.71 V, Isc = 6.46 mA/cm2, and FF = 0.57 under the illumination of AM1.5, 100 mW/cm2. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly[(2‐alkyloxy‐5‐methyl‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene)‐alt‐(1,3‐phenylenevinylene)]s ( 8 ) and poly[(2‐alkyloxy‐5‐methyl‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene)‐alt‐(1,4‐phenylenevinylene)]s ( 10 ) were synthesized by the Wittig reaction to provide materials containing 45–62% cis‐vinylene bonds. The optical characteristics of 8 and 10 were compared with those of their respective isomers, 3 and 4 , the cis‐vinylene contents of which were significantly lower (9–16%). Although a greater fraction of cis‐CH?CH linkages caused the absorption maximum (λmax) of 8 and 10 to be slightly blueshifted (by ~3–6 nm) from that of 3 and 4 , the impact of the vinylene bond geometry appeared to be negligible on their fluorescence spectra. The fluorescence quantum efficiencies of 8 and 10 were estimated to be approximately 0.25 and 0.72, respectively. Both 8 (λmax ≈ 445 or 462 nm) and 10 (λmax ≈ 480 or 506 nm) were electroluminescent, showing effective color tuning by the controlled insertion of m‐phenylene moieties. The external electroluminescence quantum efficiencies were determined to be 4.26 × 10?3% for 8 and 0.63% for 10 . The cis/trans‐vinylene bond ratio had a great impact on the electroluminescence device performance of 8 but a much smaller impact on the performance of 10 . © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis, one‐ and two‐photon absorption (TPA) and emission properties of two novel 2,6‐anthracenevinylene‐based copolymers, poly[9,10‐bis(3,4‐bis(2‐ethylhexyloxy)phenyl)‐2,6‐anthracenevinylene‐alt‐N‐octyl‐3,6‐carbazolevinyl‐ene] ( P1 ) and poly[9,10‐bis(3,4‐bis(2‐ethylhexyloxy)phenyl)‐2,6‐anthracenevinyl‐ene‐alt‐N‐octyl‐2,7‐carbazolevinylene] ( P2 ) were reported. The as‐synthesized polymers have the number‐average molecular weights of 1.56 × 104 for P1 and 1.85 × 104 g mol?1 for P2 and are readily soluble in common organic solvents. They emit strong bluish‐green one‐ and two‐photon excitation fluorescence in dilute toluene solution (? P1 = 0.85, ? P2 = 0.78, λem( P1 ) = 491 nm, λem( P2 ) = 483 nm). The maximal TPA cross‐sections of P1 and P2 measured by the two‐photon‐induced fluorescence method using femtosecond laser pulses in toluene are 840 and 490 GM per repeating unit, respectively, which are obviously larger than that (210 GM) of poly[9,10‐bis‐(3,4‐bis(2‐ethylhexyloxy) phenyl)‐2,6‐anthracenevinylene], indicating that the poly(2,6‐anthracenevinylene) derivatives with large TPA cross‐sections can be obtained by inserting electron‐donating moieties into the polymer backbone. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A phenylenevinylene‐thiophene‐phenyleneethynylene copolymer, poly{[1′,4′‐bis‐(thienyl‐vinyl)]‐2‐methoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene‐vinylene‐alt‐1,4‐dioctyloxyl‐phenyleneethynylene}(PTPPV‐ PPE), was synthesized by the Sonogashira Pd‐catalyzed cross‐coupling reaction. The copolymer possesses higher thermal decomposition temperature (Td = 382°C) compared with poly{[1′,4′‐bis‐ (thienyl‐vinyl)]‐2‐methoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene‐vinylene} (PTPPV). The absorption and photoluminescence (PL) peaks of PTPPV‐PPE solution and solid film locate in between those of the homopolymers of PTPPV and poly(1,4‐dioctyloxyl‐phenyleneethynylene) (PPE), and closer to that of PTPPV. Photovoltaic cell was fabricated based on the blend of PTPPV‐PPE and PCBM with a weight ratio of 1:1. The primary result shows an open circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.72 V which is higher than that of the PTPPV (0.67 V), and a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 0.3% under the illumination of AM1.5, 100 mW/cm2 which is much better than that of PPEs. Sodium salts of water‐soluble polymers poly{[2,5‐bis(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]‐alt‐[2,5‐bis(hexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} ( P1 ), poly{[2,5‐bis(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]‐alt‐[2,5‐bis(dodecyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} ( P2 ), poly{[2,5‐bis(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]‐alt‐[2,5‐bis(dibenzyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} ( P3 ), poly[2‐hexyloxy‐5‐(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene] ( P4 ), and poly[2‐dodecyloxy‐5‐(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene] ( P5 )] were synthesized with Suzuki coupling reactions and fully characterized. The first group of polymers ( P1 – P3 ) with symmetric structures gave lower absorption maxima [maximum absorption wavelength (λmax) = 296–305 nm] and emission maxima [maximum emission wavelength (λem) = 361–398 nm] than asymmetric polymers P4 (λmax = 329 nm, λem = 399 nm) and P5 (λmax = 335 nm, λem = 401 nm). The aggregation properties of polymers P1 – P5 in different solvent mixtures were investigated, and their influence on the optical properties was examined in detail. Dynamic light scattering studies of the aggregation behavior of polymer P1 in solvents indicated the presence of aggregated species of various sizes ranging from 80 to 800 nm. The presence of alkoxy groups and 3‐sulfonatopropoxy groups on adjacent phenylene rings along the polymer backbone of the first set hindered the optimization of nonpolar interactions. The alkyl chain crystallization on one side of the polymer chain and the polar interactions on the other side allowed the polymers ( P4 and P5 ) to form a lamellar structure in the polymer lattice. Significant quenching of the polymer fluorescence upon the addition of positively charged viologen derivatives or cytochrome‐C was also observed. The quenching effect on the polymer fluorescence confirmed that the newly synthesized polymers could be used in the fabrication of biological and chemical sensors. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Green‐emitting substituted poly[(2‐hexyloxy‐5‐methyl‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene)‐alt‐(2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene)]s ( 6 ) were synthesized via the Wittig–Horner reaction. The polymers were yellow resins with molecular weights of 10,600. The ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) absorption of 6 (λmax = 332 or 415 nm) was about 30 nm redshifted from that of poly[(2‐hexyloxy‐5‐methyl‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene)‐alt‐(1,4‐phenylenevinylene)] ( 2 ) but was only 5 nm redshifted with respect to that of poly[(1,3‐phenylenevinylene)‐alt‐(2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene)] ( 1 ). A comparison of the optical properties of 1 , 2 , and 6 showed that substitution on m‐ or p‐phenylene could slightly affect their energy gap and luminescence efficiency, thereby fine‐tuning the optical properties of the poly[(m‐phenylene vinylene)‐alt‐(p‐phenylene vinylene)] materials. The vibronic structures were assigned with the aid of low‐temperature UV–vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. Light‐emitting‐diode devices with 6 produced a green electroluminescence output (emission λmax ~ 533 nm) with an external quantum efficiency of 0.32%. Substitution at m‐phenylene appeared to be effective in perturbing the charge‐injection process in LED devices. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Factors affecting the syntheses of high‐molecular‐weight poly(2,5‐dialkyl‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene) by the acyclic diene metathesis polymerization of 2,5‐dialkyl‐1,4‐divinylbenzenes [alkyl = n‐octyl ( 2 ) and 2‐ethylhexyl ( 3 )] with a molybdenum or ruthenium catalyst were explored. The polymerizations of 2 by Mo(N‐2,6‐Me2C6H3) (CHMe2 Ph)[OCMe(CF3)2]2 at 25 °C was completed with both a high initial monomer concentration and reduced pressure, affording poly(p‐phenylene vinylene)s with low polydispersity index values (number‐average molecular weight = 3.3–3.65 × 103 by gel permeation chromatography vs polystyrene standards, weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight = 1.1–1.2), but the polymerization of 3 was not completed under the same conditions. The synthesis of structurally regular (all‐trans), defect‐free, high‐molecular‐weight 2‐ethylhexyl substituted poly(p‐phenylene vinylene)s [poly 3 ; degree of monomer repeating unit (DPn) = ca. 16–70 by 1H NMR] with unimodal molecular weight distributions (number‐average molecular weight = 8.30–36.3 × 103 by gel permeation chromatography, weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight = 1.6–2.1) and with defined polymer chain ends (as a vinyl group, ? CH?CH2) was achieved when Ru(CHPh)(Cl)2(IMesH2)(PCy3) or Ru(CH‐2‐OiPr‐C6H4)(Cl)2(IMesH2) [IMesH2 = 1,3‐bis(2,4,6‐trimethylphenyl)‐2‐imidazolidinylidene] was employed as a catalyst at 50 °C. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of new random poly(arylene‐vinylene)s containing the electron withdrawing 3,7‐dibenzothiophene‐5,5‐dioxide unit was achieved by the Suzuki–Heck cascade polymerization reaction. The properties of poly[9,9‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)‐2,7‐fluorenylene‐vinylene‐co‐3,7‐dibenzothiophene‐5,5‐dioxide‐vinylene] (50/50 mol/mol, P1 ) and poly[1,4‐bis(2‐ethylhexyloxy)‐2,5‐phenylene‐vinylene‐co‐3,7‐dibenzothiophene‐5,5‐dioxide‐vinylene] (50/50 mol/mol, P2 ) were compared with those of terpolymers obtained by combining the fluorene, dibenzothiophene, and 1,4‐bis(2‐ethylexyloxy)benzene in 20/40/40 ( P3 ), 50/25/25 ( P4 ), and 80/10/10 ( P5 ) molar ratios. The polymers were characterized by 1H NMR and IR, whereas their thermal properties were investigated by TGA and DSC. Polymers P1–5 are blue–green emitters in solution (λem between 481 and 521 nm) whereas a profound red shift observed in the solid state is emission (λem from 578 to 608 nm) that can be attributed both to the charge transfer stabilization exerted by the polar medium and to intermolecular interactions occurring in the solid state. Cyclic voltammetry permitted the evaluation of the ionization potentials and also revealed a quasi‐reversible behavior in the reduction scans for the polymers ( P1–4 ) containing the higher amounts of 3,7‐dibenzothiophene‐5,5‐dioxide units. Electroluminescent devices with both ITO/PEDOT‐PSS/ P1–5 /Ca/Al (Type I) and ITO/PEDOT‐PSS/ P1–5 /Alq3/Ca/Al (Type II) configuration were fabricated showing a yellow to yellow–green emission. In the case of P4 , a luminance of 1835 cd/m2 and an efficiency of 0.25 cd/A at 14 V were obtained for the Type II devices. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The presence of cis‐vinylene bonds in Gilch‐polymerized poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethyl‐hexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene] is reported. Through fractionation, species with a weight‐average molecular weight of less than 37,000 exhibited an abnormal blueshift of photoluminescence spectra in toluene solutions, and this was attributed to the presence of cis‐vinylene bonds, as verified by NMR spectroscopy. Surprisingly, the fractionated species (~1 wt %) with a weight‐average molecular weight of 5000 were mostly linked by the cis‐vinylene bonds. The concentration decreased with the molecular weight until a molecular weight of 37,000 was reached; at that point, the polymer chains contained mainly trans‐vinylene bonds. Obviously, the formation of cis‐vinylene bonds strongly inhibited the growth of polymer chains during Gilch polymerization. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In the present study, a new (E)‐rich‐enyne π‐conjugated polymer containing a carbazole was designed and synthesized. Two different synthesis methods of poly[N‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐3,6‐carbazolyleneethynylene‐(E)‐vinylene] (PCZEV) have been prepared from 3,6‐diethynyl‐9(2‐ethylhexyl)carbazole by using the palladium‐carbene‐catalyzed reaction and/or by using the organolanthanide‐catalyzed reaction leading to well‐defined polymer, and their general properties were studied. Compared to poly[N‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐3,6‐carbazolyleneethynylene] (PCE), the UV‐vis absorption and photoluminescence of the PCZEV was red‐shifted, which indicates the extension of conjugation length. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A simple synthetic route was used for the synthesis of a novel series of alternating copolymers based on substituted 2,7‐distyrylfluorene bridged through alkylene chains. First, 2,7‐dibromofluorene was reacted with 2 equiv of butyllithium, and this was followed by a treatment with 1 equiv of α,ω‐dibromoalkane to yield the intermediate, poly(2,7‐dibromofluorene‐9,9‐diyl‐alt‐alkane‐α,ω‐diyl). ( 1 ) Heck coupling of the latter with 1‐tert‐butyl‐4‐vinylbenzene afforded the target, poly[2,7‐bis(4‐tert‐butylstyryl)fluorene‐9,9‐diyl‐alt‐alkane‐α,ω‐diyl] ( 2 ). The two versions of 2 ( 2a and 2b which have hexane and decane, respectively, as alkane groups) were readily soluble in common organic solvents. Their glass‐transition temperature was relatively low (52 and 87 °C). An intense blue photoluminescence emission with maxima at about 408 and 409 nm was observed in tetrahydrofuran solutions, whereas thin films exhibited an orange emission with maxima at 569 and 588 nm. Very large redshifts of the photoluminescence maxima and Stokes shifts in thin films indicated strong aggregation in the solid state. Both polymers oxidized and reduced irreversibly. Single‐layer light‐emitting diodes with hole‐injecting indium tin oxide and electron‐injecting aluminum electrodes were fabricated. They emitted orange light with external electroluminescence efficiencies of 0.52 and 0.36% photon/electron, as determined in light‐emitting diodes made of 2a and 2b , with alkylenes of (CH2)6 and (CH2)10, respectively. An increase in the external electroluminescence efficiency up to 1.5% was reached in light‐emitting diodes made of polymer blends consisting of 2a and poly(9,9‐dihexadecylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl), which emitted blue‐white light. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A π‐conjugated polymer containing a dithiafulvene unit and a bipyridyl unit was prepared by cycloaddition polymerization of aldothioketene derived from 5,5′‐diethynyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine. Ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) absorption spectra showed that the π‐conjugation system of the polymer expanded more effectively than that of a benzene analogue of poly(dithiafulvene) obtained from 1,4‐diethynylbenzene. Cyclic voltammetry measurements indicated that the dithiafulvene–bipyridyl polymer was a weaker electron‐donor polymer than the benzene analogue. These results supported the idea that the incorporation of the electron‐accepting bipyridyl moiety into conjugated poly(dithiafulvene) induced an intramolecular charge‐transfer (CT) effect between the units. Treatment of the dithiafulvene–bipyridyl polymer with bis(2,2′‐bipyridyl)dichlororuthenium (II) [Ru(bpy)2Cl2] afforded a ruthenium–polymer complex. A cyclic voltammogram of the complex showed broad redox peaks, which indicated electronic interaction between the dithiafulvene and tris(bipyridyl) ruthenium complex. The dithiafulvene–bipyridyl polymer formed CT complexes with 7,7,8,8‐tetracycanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) in dimethyl sulfoxide. The UV–vis absorption indicated that the resulting CT complex contained anion radical of TCNQ and partially charge‐transferred TCNQ. The polymer showed an unusually high electrical conductivity of 3.1 × 10?4 S/cm in its nondoped state due to the effective donor–acceptor interaction between the bipyridine unit and the dithiafulvene unit. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Chiral poly(p‐phenylenevinylene‐altm‐phenylenevinylene)s bearing (?)‐trans‐myrtanoxyl groups on the p‐phenylene rings were synthesized by Wittig's reaction and Heck's reaction, respectively, namely Myr‐PMPV‐w and Myr‐PMPV‐h correspondingly. The chiroptical properties of the polymers were investigated in chlorobenzene solution by circular dichroism. The results showed that both Myr‐PMPV‐w and Myr‐PMPV‐h showed no Cotton effect due to their irregular molecular structure. By the treatment with I2, most of the cis‐vinylene linkages in Myr‐PMPV‐w were converted to trans‐vinylenes, consequently, the structure of Myr‐PMPV‐w became much more regular, and the resulting polymer ( iso‐Myr‐PMPV‐w ) showed strong bisignate Cotton effects in the π–π* transition. Compared to its analogous poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) (PPV) ( iso‐Myr‐PPV‐w ), iso‐Myr‐PMPV‐w showed much stronger Cotton effect, its maximum g value was about one order of magnitude higher than that of iso‐Myr‐PPV‐w under the same conditions. With increasing concentration and decreasing temperature, the gmax value of iso‐Myr‐PMPV‐w increased, and the maximum absorption was slightly blue‐shifted, but the shape and range of absorption curves did not changed significantly, and no clear isosbestic point could be observed. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A soluble cyano‐substituted poly[(1,3‐phenylene vinylene)‐alt‐(1,4‐phenylene vinylene)] derivative ( 9 ) was synthesized and characterized. Comparison between 9 and its model compound ( 10 ) showed that the chromophore in 9 remained to be well defined as a result of a π‐conjugation interruption at adjacent m‐phenylene units. The attachment of a cyano substituent only at the β position of the vinylene allowed the maximum electronic impact of the cyano group on the optical properties of the poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) material. At a low temperature (?108 or ?198 °C), the vibronic structures of 9 and 10 were partially resolved. The absorption and emission spectra of a film of 9 were less temperature‐dependent than those of a film of 10 , indicating that the former had a lower tendency to aggregate. A light‐emitting diode (LED) based on 9 emitted yellow light (λmax ≈ 578 nm) with an external quantum efficiency of 0.03%. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of new phenothiazylene vinylene‐based semiconducting polymers, poly[3,7‐(4′‐dodecyloxyphenyl)phenothiazylene vinylene] ( P1 ), poly[3,7‐(4′‐dodecyloxyphenyl)phenothiazylene vinylene‐alt‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene] ( P2 ), and poly[3,7‐(4′‐dodecyloxyphenyl)phenothiazylene vinylene‐alt‐2,5‐thienylene vinylene] ( P3 ), have been synthesized via a Horner‐Emmons reaction. FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopies confirmed that the configurations of the vinylene groups in the polymers were alltrans (E). The weight‐averaged molecular weights (Mw) of P1 , P2 , and P3 were found to be 27,000, 22,000, and 29,000, with polydispersity indices of 1.91, 2.05, and 2.25, respectively. The thermograms for P1 , P2 , and P3 each contained only a broad glass transition, at 129, 167, and 155 °C, respectively, without the observation of melting features. UV–visible absorption spectra of the polymers showed two strong absorption bands in the ranges 315–370 nm and 450–500 nm, which arose from absorptions of the phenothiazine segments and the conjugated main chains. Solution‐processed field‐effect transistors fabricated from these polymers showed p‐type organic thin‐film transistor characteristics. The field‐effect mobilities of P1 , P2 , and P3 were measured to be 1.0 × 10?4, 3.6 × 10?5, and 1.0 × 10?3 cm2 V?1 s?1, respectively, and the on/off ratios were in the order of 102 for P1 and P2 , and 103 for P3 . Atomic force microscopy and X‐ray diffraction analysis of thin films of the polymers show that they have amorphous structures. A photovoltaic device in which a P3 /PC71BM (1/5) blend film was used as the active layer exhibited an open‐circuit voltage (VOC) of 0.42 V, a short circuit current (JSC) of 5.17 mA cm?2, a fill factor of 0.35, and a power conversion efficiency of 0.76% under AM 1.5 G (100 mW cm?2) illumination. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The thiol‐ene reaction between trans‐limonene oxide (trans‐LO) and ethane‐1,2‐dithiol in the presence of triethylborane affords a bio‐based bis‐functional epoxide (bis‐trans‐LO). The crosslinking reaction of bis‐trans‐LO with branched polyethyleneimine (BPEI; Mn = 600; BPEI600) at a feed ratio of bis‐trans‐LO/BPEI600 = 57/43 (wt/wt) yields the corresponding network polymer with Td10 (10% thermal decomposition temperature) of 304.7 °C in 98% yield. In contrast, negligible amounts of network polymer are obtained by the reaction of bis‐LO (bis‐functional epoxide derived from cis and trans‐LO) and BPEI600 regardless of the feed ratio. The mechanical strengths as measured by direct tensile tests of the network polymers derived from bis‐trans‐LO and BPEI600,1800 (Mn = 600 and 1800) were approximately 16 and 11 times higher than that of bis‐LO and BPEI1800, respectively. The tensile shear strengths of the metal‐to‐metal adhesive bonds induced by bis‐trans‐LO and BPEI600,1800 were 9.5 and 14.1 MPa, respectively. DMA revealed that the storage modulus of the network polymer derived from bis‐trans‐LO and BPEI1800 in the rubber region was higher than that of the material prepared from bis‐LO and BPEI1800, indicating higher crosslink density of the bis‐trans‐LO/BPEI1800 system. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Blue‐emitting poly{[5‐(diphenylamino)‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene]‐alt‐(2‐hexyloxy‐5‐methyl‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene)} ( 3 ), poly{[5‐bis‐(4‐butyl‐phenylamino)‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene]‐alt‐(1,3‐phenylene vinylene)} ( 4 ), and poly(2‐hexyloxy‐5‐methyl‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene) ( 5 ) were synthesized by the Wittig–Horner reaction. Although polymers 3–5 possess fluorescent quantum yields of only 13–34% in tetrahydrofuran solution, their films appear to be highly luminescent. Attachments of substituents tuned the emission color of thin films to the desirable blue region (λmax = 462–477 nm). Double‐layer light‐emitting‐diode devices with 3 and 5 as an emissive layer produced blue emission (λem = 474 and 477 nm) with turn‐on voltages of 8 and 11 V, respectively. Copolymers containing oligo(phenylene vinylene) (2.5), fluorene, and 4,4‐dihexyldithienosilole (DTS) units were synthesized and characterized. The π‐conjugated monomers were joined with the palladium(0)‐catalyzed Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction, thus forming either biphenyl– or phenyl–thiophene linkages. These polymers were photoluminescent, with the fluorescent quantum efficiency between 54 and 63% and with λmax for fluorescence at ~448 nm in tetrahydrofuran. The presence of 5% DTS in the copolymers had little influence on the optical absorption and emission wavelengths. Double‐layer light‐emitting‐diode devices using these polymers as emissive layers had low turn‐on voltages (3.5–4 V) and moderate external quantum efficiencies (0.14–0.30%). The results show that DTS plays a positive role in improving the charge‐injection characteristics of poly(phenylene vinylene) materials. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A synthetic method to obtain an arsole‐containing π‐conjugated polymer by the post‐transformation of the organotitanium polymer titanacyclopentadiene‐2,5‐diyl unit with an arsenic‐containing building block is described. The UV/Vis absorption maximum and onset of the polymer were observed at 517 nm and 612 nm, respectively. The polymer exhibits orange photoluminescence with an emission maximum (Emax) of 600 nm and the quantum yield (Φ) of 0.05. The polymer proved to exhibit a quasi‐reversible redox behavior in its cyclic voltammetric (CV) analysis. The energy levels of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) were estimated to be ?5.43 and ?3.24 eV, respectively, from the onsets for oxidation and reduction signals in the CV analysis. Further chemical modification of the arsole unit in the π‐conjugated polymer by complexation of gold(I) chloride occurred smoothly resulting in the bathochromic shift of the UV/Vis absorption and lowering of the LUMO energy level.  相似文献
