The UVA is currently thought to be carcinogenic because, similar to UVB, it induces the formation of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs). Various drugs have been reported to cause photosensitive drug eruptions as an adverse effect. Although the precise mechanism of photosensitive drug eruption remains to be elucidated, it is generally accepted that free radicals and other reactive molecules generated via UV‐irradiated drugs play important roles in the pathogenesis of photosensitive drug eruptions. The waveband of concern for photo‐reactive drugs is UVA‐visible light, but some extend into the UVB region. We tested whether photosensitive drugs could enhance CPD formation after UVA exposure by using isolated DNA in the presence of several reported photosensitive drugs using high‐performance liquid chromatography. We found that the diuretic agent hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) significantly enhanced the production of TT dimers over a wide range of UVA. Furthermore, we investigated whether UVA plus HCT could enhance CPD production in xeroderma pigmentosum model mice defective in nucleotide excision repair. Immunofluorescence studies showed that CPD formation in the skin significantly increased after 365 nm narrow‐band UVA irradiation in the presence of HCT, compared with that in wild‐type mice. The thiol‐ene reaction between trans‐limonene oxide (trans‐LO) and ethane‐1,2‐dithiol in the presence of triethylborane affords a bio‐based bis‐functional epoxide (bis‐trans‐LO). The crosslinking reaction of bis‐trans‐LO with branched polyethyleneimine (BPEI; Mn = 600; BPEI600) at a feed ratio of bis‐trans‐LO/BPEI600 = 57/43 (wt/wt) yields the corresponding network polymer with Td10 (10% thermal decomposition temperature) of 304.7 °C in 98% yield. In contrast, negligible amounts of network polymer are obtained by the reaction of bis‐LO (bis‐functional epoxide derived from cis and trans‐LO) and BPEI600 regardless of the feed ratio. The mechanical strengths as measured by direct tensile tests of the network polymers derived from bis‐trans‐LO and BPEI600,1800 (Mn = 600 and 1800) were approximately 16 and 11 times higher than that of bis‐LO and BPEI1800, respectively. The tensile shear strengths of the metal‐to‐metal adhesive bonds induced by bis‐trans‐LO and BPEI600,1800 were 9.5 and 14.1 MPa, respectively. DMA revealed that the storage modulus of the network polymer derived from bis‐trans‐LO and BPEI1800 in the rubber region was higher than that of the material prepared from bis‐LO and BPEI1800, indicating higher crosslink density of the bis‐trans‐LO/BPEI1800 system. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A co-cross-linking reaction of bio-based multi-functional epoxides (1) derived from limonene oxide and bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BPADE) in the presence of 2-ethyl-4-methylimidazole (EMI) as a cross-linker afforded the corresponding network copolymers (2) having the 10% thermal decomposition temperature (Td10) of 294.4?°C at maximum. We previously found that some Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Lactobacillus plantarum remarkably formed mixed-specie biofilm in a static co-culture and deduced that this biofilm had potential as immobilized cells. We investigated the application of mixed-specie biofilm formed by S. cerevisiae BY4741 and L. plantarum HM23 for ethanol fermentation in repeated batch cultures. This mixed-specie biofilm was far abundantly formed and far resistant to washing compared with S. cerevisiae single biofilm. Adopting mixed-specie biofilm formed on cellulose beads as immobilized cells, we could produce enough ethanol from 10 or 20 % glucose during ten times repeated batch cultures for a duration of 10 days. Cell numbers of S. cerevisiae and L. plantarum during this period were stable. In mixed-specie biofilm system, though ethanol production was slightly lower compared to S. cerevisiae single-culture system due to by-production of lactate, pH was stably maintained under pH 4 without artificial control suggesting high resistance to contamination. Inoculated model contaminants, Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis, were excluded from the system in a short time. From the above results, it was indicated that the mixed-specie biofilm of S. cerevisiae and L. plantarum was a promising immobilized cell for ethanol fermentation for its ethanol productivity and robustness due to high resistance to contamination. 相似文献

A new acid‐labile polymer having acetal moieties in the main chain was synthesized by polycondensation of poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) and lilial, an aldehyde widely used in fragrance applications. The hydrophobicity of the resulting acetal moiety and the hydrophilicity of the PEG chain allowed the polyacetal to exhibit amphiphilicity. The polyacetal derived from PEG having weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 1000 (PEG1000) was soluble in water and self‐associated to form associates in water. The polyacetals were hydrolyzed in acidic aqueous solutions to release hydrophobic lilial from the systems. The release rate of aldehyde from the polyacetal derived from PEG1000 was higher than that from the polyacetal derived from PEG having Mw of 400 (PEG400). These results supported that the release rate of lilial can be controlled by the chain length of PEG, on which hydrophilicity of polyacetal depends. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Metal‐free controlled ring‐opening polymerization of glycidyl phenyl ether (GPE) was achieved using tetra‐n‐butylammonium fluoride (Bu4NF) as an initiator in the presence of water and ethanol as chain transfer agents (CTAs). Number‐averaged molecular weight of poly(GPE) increased with an increase of [GPE]0/([Bu4NF]0 + [CTA]0) values, showing relatively narrow molecular weight distributions. NMR spectroscopic analysis exhibited a formation of ethoxy groups as well as FCH2 at the initiating polymer chain‐end when ethanol was used as the CTA in the polymerization. A new water‐soluble poly(ethylene imine)‐derivative having imidazolidine moieties was developed. With using branched poly(ethylene imine) (BPEI) as a precursor, it was modified by Michael addition reaction of its primary amino group to an acrylate having poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) chain. The modified BPEI was reacted with octanal to give the corresponding BPEI derivative having octanal‐derived imidazolidine moieties. The obtained polymer inherited the high hydrophilicity of the attached PEG chains to allow hydrolysis of the imidazolidine moieties under homogeneous conditions in aqueous media, leading to long‐lasting release of octanal. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Natural human hair was modified by the graft polymerization of propylene sulfide in an aqueous medium. The amount of the polymer grafted onto the reduced hair was 0.15–0.19 g on 1.0 g of hair. The grafted polymer was isolated by the hydrolysis of the hair in the polymer‐grafted hair under basic conditions and was confirmed to be poly(propylene sulfide) by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and Fourier transform infrared spectra. Natural human hair was successfully modified by the graft polymerization of trimethylene carbonate, β‐propiolactone, ε‐caprolactone, glycidol, ε‐caprolactam, and 5,5‐dimethyl‐1,3‐dioxane‐2‐thione. In contrast, we could not modify natural human hair by the graft polymerization of oxetane under similar conditions. The model reaction suggested that the main initiating species in these polymerizations were the amino, thiol, and hydroxyl groups in hair, which could induce ring‐opening polymerization. Among the tested monomers, β‐propiolactone was most effective for hair modification with its graft polymer, whose concentration was as high as 0.5 g/g of hair though polymerization under mild conditions. The effects of the hair pretreatment and polymerization temperature on the weight ratio of the grafted polymers were also investigated. Hair modified by grafted polymers was characterized with scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared measurements. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
