In this paper, we study the global dynamics of a viral infection model with a latent period. The model has a nonlinear function which denotes the incidence rate of the virus infection in vivo. The basic reproduction number of the virus is identified and it is shown that the uninfected equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable if the basic reproduction number is equal to or less than unity. Moreover, the virus and infected cells eventually persist and there exists a unique infected equilibrium which is globally asymptotically stable if the basic reproduction number is greater than unity. The basic reproduction number determines the equilibrium that is globally asymptotically stable, even if there is a time delay in the infection.  相似文献

A deterministic model for the transmission dynamics of measles in a population with fraction of vaccinated individuals is designed and rigorously analyzed. The model with standard incidence exhibits the phenomenon of backward bifurcation, where a stable disease‐free equilibrium coexists with a stable endemic equilibrium whenever the associated reproduction number is less than unity. This phenomenon can be removed if either measles vaccine is assumed to be perfect or disease related mortality rates are negligible. In the latter case, the disease‐free equilibrium is shown to be globally asymptotically stable whenever the associated reproduction number is less than unity. Furthermore, the model has a unique endemic equilibrium whenever the reproduction threshold exceeds unity. This equilibrium is shown, using a nonlinear Lyapunov function of Goh‐Volterra type, to be globally asymptotically stable for a special case.  相似文献

A mathematical model to understand the dynamics of malaria–visceral leishmaniasis co‐infection is proposed and analyzed. Results show that both diseases can be eliminated if R0, the basic reproduction number of the co‐infection, is less than unity, and the system undergoes a backward bifurcation where an endemic equilibrium co‐exists with the disease‐free equilibrium when one of Rm or Rl, the basic reproduction numbers of malaria‐only and visceral leishmaniasis‐only, is precisely less than unity. Results also show that in the case of maximum protection against visceral leishmaniasis (VL), the disease‐free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable if malaria patients are protected from VL infection; similarly, in the case of maximum protection against malaria, the disease‐free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable if VL and post‐kala‐azar dermal leishmaniasis patients and the recovered humans after VL are protected from malaria infection. Numerical results show that if Rm and Rl are greater than unity, then we have co‐existence of both disease at an endemic equilibrium, and malaria incidence is higher than visceral leishmaniasis incidence at steady state. In this paper, we investigate a Vector‐Borne disease model with nonlinear incidence rate and 2 delays: One is the incubation period in the vectors and the other is the incubation period in the host. Under the biologically motivated assumptions, we show that the global dynamics are completely determined by the basic reproduction number R0. The disease‐free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable if R0≤1; when R0>1, the system is uniformly persistent, and there exists a unique endemic equilibrium that is globally asymptotically. Numerical simulations are conducted to illustrate the theoretical results.  相似文献

A deterministic model for studying the transmission dynamics of bovine tuberculosis in a single cattle herd is presented and qualitatively analyzed. A notable feature of the model is that it allows for the importation of asymptomatically infected cattle (into the herd) because re‐stocking from outside sources. Rigorous analysis of the model shows that the model has a globally‐asymptotically stable disease‐free equilibrium whenever a certain epidemiological threshold, known as the reproduction number, is less than unity. In the absence of importation of asymptomatically infected cattle, the model has a unique endemic equilibrium whenever the reproduction number exceeds unity (this equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable for a special case). It is further shown that, for the case where asymptomatically infected cattle are imported into the herd, the model has a unique endemic equilibrium. This equilibrium is also shown to be globally asymptotically stable for a special case. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, an HIV/AIDS epidemic model is proposed in which there are two susceptible classes. Two types of general nonlinear incidence functions are employed to depict the scenarios of infection among cautious and incautious individuals. Qualitative analyses are performed, in terms of the basic reproduction number $\R_0$, to gain the global dynamics of the model: the disease-free equilibrium is of global asymptotic stability when $\R_0\leq 1$; a unique endemic equilibrium exists and globally asymptotically stable $\R_0> 1$. The introduction of cautious susceptible and the resulting multiple transmission functions has positive effect on HIV/AIDS prevalence. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate and extend the obtained analytical results.  相似文献

In this paper, we perform global stability analysis of a multi‐group SEIR epidemic model in which we can consider the heterogeneity of host population and the effects of latency and nonlinear incidence rates. For a simpler version that assumes an identical natural death rate for all groups, and with a gamma distribution for the latency, the basic reproduction number is defined by the theory of the next generation operator and proved to be a sharp threshold determining whether or not disease spread. Under certain assumptions, the disease‐free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable if R0≤1 and there exists a unique endemic equilibrium which is globally asymptotically stable if R0>1. The proofs of global stability of equilibria exploit a matrix‐theoretic method using Perron eigenvetor, a graph‐theoretic method based on Kirchhoff's matrix tree theorem and Lyapunov functionals. In this paper, a stage‐structured SI epidemic model with time delay and nonlinear incidence rate is investigated. By analyzing the corresponding characteristic equations, the local stability of an endemic equilibrium and a disease‐free equilibrium, and the existence of Hopf bifurcations are established. By comparison arguments, it is proved that if the basic reproduction number is less than unity, the disease‐free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable. If the basic reproduction number is greater than unity, by means of an iteration technique, sufficient conditions are obtained for the global asymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium. In this paper, a multistage susceptible‐infectious‐recovered model with distributed delays and nonlinear incidence rate is investigated, which extends the model considered by Guo et al. [H. Guo, M. Y. Li and Z. Shuai, Global dynamics of a general class of multistage models for infectious diseases, SIAM J. Appl. Math., 72 (2012), 261–279]. Under some appropriate and realistic conditions, the global dynamics is completely determined by the basic reproduction number R0. If R0≤1, then the infection‐free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable and the disease dies out in all stages. If R0>1, then a unique endemic equilibrium exists, and it is globally asymptotically stable, and hence the disease persists in all stages. The results are proved by utilizing the theory of non‐negative matrices, Lyapunov functionals, and the graph‐theoretical approach. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

For a multigroup SEIR epidemiological model with nonlinear incidence rates, the basic reproduction number is identified. It is shown that, under certain group mixing patterns and nonlinearity and/or nonsmoothness in the incidence of infection, the basic reproduction number is a global threshold parameter in the sense that the disease free equilibrium is globally stable if the basic reproduction number is less than one and the endemic equilibrium is globally stable if the basic reproduction number is greater than one.  相似文献

In this paper, applying Lyapunov functional techniques to nonresident computer virus models, we establish global dynamics of the model whose threshold parameter is the basic reproduction number R0 such that the virus‐free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable when R0 ≤ 1, and the infected equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable when R0 > 1 under the same restricted condition on a parameter, which appeared in the literature on delayed susceptible‐infected‐recovered‐susceptible (SIRS) epidemic models. We use new techniques on permanence and global stability of this model for R0 > 1. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, a mathematical model describing the transmission dynamics of an infectious disease with an exposed (latent) period and waning vaccine-induced immunity is investigated. The basic reproduction number is found by applying the method of the next generation matrix. It is shown that the global dynamics of the model is completely determined by the basic reproduction number. By means of appropriate Lyapunov functionals and LaSalle’s invariance principle, it is proven that if the basic reproduction number is less than or equal to unity, the disease-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable and the disease fades out; and if the basic reproduction number is greater than unity, the endemic equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable and therefore the disease becomes endemic.  相似文献
