Poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) has been reported as a successful functional material in a broad variety of applications. One of the most important advantages of PEDOT:PSS is its water‐solubility, which enables simple and environmental friendly manufacturing processes. Unfortunately, this also implies that pristine PEDOT:PSS films are unsuitable for applications in aqueous environments. To reach stability in polar solvents, (3‐glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane (GOPS) is typically used to cross‐link PEDOT:PSS. Although this strategy is widely used, its mechanism and effect on PEDOT:PSS performance have not been articulated yet. Here, we present a broad study that provides a better understanding of the effect of GOPS on the electrical and electronic properties of PEDOT:PSS. We show that the GOPS reacts with the sulfonic acid group of the excess PSS, causing a change in the PEDOT:PSS film morphology, while the oxidation level of PEDOT remains unaffected. This is at the origin of the observed conductivity changes. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Phys. 2017 , 55, 814–820  相似文献

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) is a widely used hole transporting layer (HTL) in organic solar cells (OSCs), but its acidity severely reduces the stability of devices. Until now, very few HTLs were developed to replace PEDOT:PSS toward stable and high-performance OSCs. Herein, a new cobalt-lanthanum (Co-La) inorganic system was reported as HTL to show a high conversion efficiency (PCE) of 18.82 %, which is among the top PCEs in binary OSCs. Since electron-rich outer shell of La atom can interact with Co atom to form charge transfer complex, the work function and conductivity of the Co-La system could be simultaneously enhanced compared to Co or La-based HTLs. This Co-La system could also be applied into other OSCs to show high performance. All these results demonstrate that binary Co-La systems as HTL can efficiently tackle the issue in hole transporting and show powerful application in OSCs to replace PEDOT:PSS.

Electrochromic devices are fabricated by using polyaniline (PANI) doped with poly(styrene sulfonic acid) (PSS) as coloring electrodes, poly(ethylenedioxythiophene)‐poly(styrene sulfonic acid) (PEDOT‐PSS) as complementary electrodes, and hybrid polymer electrolytes as gel electrolytes. The device based on LiClO4‐based electrolyte (weight ratio of PMMA:PC:LiClO4 = 0.7:1.1:0.3) shows the highest optical contrast and coloration efficiency (333 cm2/C) after 1200 cycles in these devices, and the color changes from pale yellow (?0.5 V) to dark blue (+2.5 V). The spectroelectrochemical and electrochromic switching properties of electrochromic devices are investigated, the maximum optical contrast (ΔT%) of electrochromic device for ITO|PANI‐PSS‖PMMA‐PC‐LiClO4‐SiO2‖PEDOT‐PSS|ITO are 31.5% at 640 nm, and electrochromic device based on LiClO4‐based electrolyte with SiO2 shows faster response time than that based on LiClO4‐based electrolyte without SiO2.  相似文献

We report here the synthesis via Suzuki polymerization of two novel alternating polymers containing 9,9‐dioctylfluorene and electron‐withdrawing 4,4′‐dihexyl‐2,2′‐bithiazole moieties, poly[(4,4′‐dihexyl‐2,2′‐bithiazole‐5,5′‐diyl)‐alt‐(9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl)] (PHBTzF) and poly[(5,5′‐bis(2″‐thienyl)‐4,4′‐dihexyl‐2,2′‐bithiazole‐5″,5″‐diyl)‐alt‐(9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl)] (PTHBTzTF), and their application to electronic devices. The ultraviolet–visible absorption maxima of films of PHBTzF and PTHBTzTF were 413 and 471 nm, respectively, and the photoluminescence maxima were 513 and 590 nm, respectively. Cyclic voltammetry experiment showed an improvement in the n‐doping stability of the polymers and a reduction of their lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy levels as a result of bithiazole in the polymers' main chain. The highest occupied molecular orbital energy levels of the polymers were ?5.85 eV for PHBTzF and ?5.53 eV for PTHBTzTF. Conventional polymeric light‐emitting‐diode devices were fabricated in the ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al configuration [where ITO is indium tin oxide and PEDOT:PSS is poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(styrenesulfonic acid)] with the two polymers as emitting layers. The PHBTzF device exhibited a maximum luminance of 210 cd/m2 and a turn‐on voltage of 9.4 V, whereas the PTHBTzTF device exhibited a maximum luminance of 1840 cd/m2 and a turn‐on voltage of 5.4 V. In addition, a preliminary organic solar‐cell device with the ITO/PEDOT:PSS/(PTHBTzTF + C60)/Ca/Al configuration (where C60 is fullerene) was also fabricated. Under 100 mW/cm2 of air mass 1.5 white‐light illumination, the device produced an open‐circuit voltage of 0.76 V and a short‐circuit current of 1.70 mA/cm2. The fill factor of the device was 0.40, and the power conversion efficiency was 0.52%. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 43: 1845–1857, 2005  相似文献

Two‐dimensional (2D) WS2 nanosheets (NSs) as a promising thermoelectric (TE) material have gained great concern recently. The low electrical conductivity significantly limits its further development. Herein, we reported an effective method to enhance the TE performance of WS2 NSs by combining poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(4‐styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS). The restacked WS2 NSs thin film with 1T phase structure obtained by a common chemical lithium intercalation show a high Seebeck coefficient of 98 μV K?1 and a poor electrical conductivity of 12.5 S cm?1. The introduction of PEDOT:PSS with different contents obviously improve the electrical conductivity of WS2 NSs thin films. Although a declining Seebeck coefficient was observed, an optimized TE power factor of 45.2 μW m?1 k?1 was achieved for WS2/PEDOT:PSS composite thin film. Moreover, the as‐prepared WS2/PEDOT:PSS thin film can be easily peeled off and transferred to other substrate leading to a more promising application. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Stable aqueous amino-grafted silicon nanoparticles(SiNPs-NH2) were prepared via one-pot solution method. By grafting amino groups on the particle surface, the dispersion of SiNPs in water became very stable and clear aqueous solutions could be obtained. By incorporating SiNPs-NH2 into the hole transport layer of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/polystyrene sulfonic acid(PEDOT:PSS), the performance of polymer solar cells composed of poly[2-methoxy,5-(2'-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene](MEH-PPV):[6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester(PCBM) as active layer can be improved. SiNPs-NH2 are dispersed uniformly in the PEDOT:PSS solution and help form morphologies with small-sized domains in the PEDOT:PSS film. SiNPs-NH2 serve as screens between conducting polymer PEDOT and ionomer PSS to improve the phase separation and charge transport of the hole transport layer. As a result, the sheet resistance of PEDOT:PSS thin films is decreased from(93 ± 5) × 105 to(13 ± 3) × 105 ?/□. The power conversion efficiency(PCE) of polymer solar cells was thus improved by 9.8% for devices fabricated with PEDOT:PSS containing 1 wt% of SiNPs-NH2, compared with the devices fabricated by original PEDOT:PSS.  相似文献

Highly conductive poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) films as transparent electrodes for organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) are doped with a new solvent 1,3‐dimethyl‐2‐imidazolidinone (DMI) and are optimized using solvent post‐treatment. The DMI doped PEDOT:PSS films show significantly enhanced conductivities up to 812.1 S cm−1. The sheet resistance of the PEDOT:PSS films doped with DMI is further reduced by various solvent post‐treatment. The effect of solvent post‐treatment on DMI doped PEDOT:PSS films is investigated and is shown to reduce insulating PSS in the conductive films. The solvent posttreated PEDOT:PSS films are successfully employed as transparent electrodes in white OLEDs. It is shown that the efficiency of OLEDs with the optimized DMI doped PEDOT:PSS films is higher than that of reference OLEDs doped with a conventional solvent (ethylene glycol). The results present that the optimized PEDOT:PSS films with the new solvent of DMI can be a promising transparent electrode for low‐cost, efficient ITO‐free white OLEDs.

Interfacial engineering is expected to be a feasible strategy to improve the charge transport properties of the hole transport layer (HTL), which is of crucial importance to boost the device performance of organic solar cells (OSCs). In this study, two types of alcohol soluble materials, 2,3,5,6‐tetrafluoro‐7,7,8,8‐tetracyanoquinodimethane (F4‐TCNQ) and di‐tetrabutylammoniumcis–bis(isothiocyanato)bis (2,2’‐bipyridyl‐4,4’‐dicarboxylato) ruthenium(II) (N719) dye were selected as the dopant for HTL. The doping of F4‐TCNQ and N719 dye in poly (ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) with and without integrating a graphene quantum‐dots (G‐QDs) layer has been explored in poly[[2,6′‐4‐8‐di(5‐ethylhexylthienyl)benzo[1,2‐b:3,3‐b]dithiophene][3‐fluoro‐2[(2‐ethylhexyl)carbonyl]thieno[3,4‐b]thio‐phenediyl:(2,2′‐((2Z,2′Z)‐(((4,4,9, 9‐tetrakis(4‐hexylphenyl)‐4,9‐dihydro‐s‐indaceno[1,2‐b:5,6‐b′]dithiophene‐2,7‐diyl)bis(4‐((2‐ethylhexyl)oxy)thiophene‐5,2‐diyl))bis(methanylylidene))bis(5,6‐difluoro‐3‐oxo‐2,3‐dihydro‐1H‐indene‐2,1‐diylidene))dimalononitrile (PTB7‐Th:IEICO‐4F) OSCs. The power conversion efficiency of the non‐fullerene OSCs has been increased to 10.12% from 8.84%. The influence of HTL modification on the nano‐morphological structures and photophysical properties is analyzed based on the comparative studies performed on the control and modified devices. The use of chemical doping and bilayer strategy optimizes the energy level alignment, nanomorphology, hole mobility, and work‐function of HTL, leading to considerable reduction of the leakage current and recombination losses. Our work demonstrates that the doping of HTL and the incorporation of G‐QDs layer to constitute a bilayer HTL is an promising strategy to fabricate high performance non‐fullerene polymer solar cells  相似文献

A novel strategy via paper as an effective substrate has been introduced as a thermoelectric material in this work. Free‐standing poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)/paper composite films are conveniently prepared by a one‐step method of directly writing PEDOT:PSS solution on paper, making the process simple, rapid, and facile. The free‐standing composite films display excellent flexibility, light weight, soaking stability in water, and great potential in large‐scale production. Improved thermoelectric properties are obtained in PEDOT:PSS/paper composite films, owing to the simultaneously enhanced Seebeck coefficient (30.6 μV K?1) and electrical conductivity, and a low thermal conductivity (0.16 W m?1 K?1) compared with pristine PEDOT:PSS films. The results indicate that paper as an effective substrate is suitable for the preparation of high‐performance and flexible thermoelectric materials. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The electrical and structural properties of poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(4‐styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) thin films deposited from aqueous dispersion using different concentrations of selected secondary dopants are studied in detail. An improvement of the electrical conductivity by three orders of magnitude is achieved for dimethyl sulfoxide, sorbitol, ethylene glycol, and N,N‐dimethylformamide, and the secondary dopant concentration dependence of the conductivity exhibits almost identical behavior for all investigated secondary dopants. Detailed analysis of the surface morphology and Raman spectra reveals no presence of the secondary dopant in fabricated films, and thus the dopants are truly causing the secondary doping effect. Although the ratio of benzenoid and quinoid vibrations in Raman spectra is unaffected by doping, the phase transition in PEDOT:PSS films owing to doping is confirmed. Further analysis of temperature‐dependent conductivity reveals 1D variable range hopping (VRH) charge transport for undoped PEDOT:PSS, whereas highly conductive doped PEDOT:PSS films exhibit 3D VRH charge transport. We demonstrate that the charge ‐ hopping dimensionality change should be a fundamental reason for the conductivity enhancement. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Photolithographically patterned highly conductive (~1400 S/cm) poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythio‐phene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) films are demonstrated as electrodes for organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). With the assistance of hydrofluoroether (HFE) solvents and fluorinated photoresists, high‐resolution passive‐matrix OLEDs with PEDOT:PSS electrodes are fabricated, in which the OLEDs show comparable performance to those devices prepared on the indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes. This photolithographic patterning process for PEDTO:PSS has great potential for applications which require flexible electrodes. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. In this review, PEDOT–PSS is mainly a commercially available PEDOT–PSS, which is a water‐dispersible form of the intrinsically conducting PEDOT doped with the water‐soluble PSS, including its derivatives, copolymers, analogs (PEDOT:PSSs), even their composites via the chemical or physical modification toward the structure of PEDOT and/or PSS. First, we will focus on discussing the scientific importance of PEDOT–PSS in conjunction with its extraordinary properties and broad multidisciplinary applications in organic/polymeric electronics and optoelectronics from the viewpoint of the historical development and the promising application of representative ECPs. Subsequently, versatile film‐forming techniques for the preparation of PEDOT–PSS film electrode were described in details, including common coating approaches and printing techniques, and many emerging preparative methods were mentioned. Then challenges (e.g., conductivity, stability in Water, adhesion to substrate electrode) of PEDOT–PSS film electrode for devices under the high humidity/watery circumstances, especially electrochemical devices are discussed. Fourth, we take PEDOT–PSS film electrode for a relatively new application in sensors as an example, mainly summarized advances in the development of various sensors based on PEDOT–PSSs and their composites in combination with its preparative methods and extraordinary properties. Finally, we give the outlook of PEDOT–PSS for possible applications with the emphasis on PEDOT–PSS film electrode for electrochemical devices, including sensors.

Poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) has been studied for a wide range of applications due to its potential as a transparent electrode. Herein, the use of imidazole and its derivatives as a neutralizing additive for PEDOT:PSS dispersion and in‐depth studies of their effects in terms of electrical properties and stability is reported. Although the neutralization in general reduces the electrical conductivity of PEDOT:PSS, the conductivity after imidazole treatment (685.2 S cm?1) is higher than that after treatment of other derivatives. Spectroscopic and thermoelectric studies show that the de‐doping effect resulted in the conductivity reduction. As a trade‐off of the conductivity reduction, greatly enhanced long‐term stability and noncorrosive characteristics are obtained after neutralization. The change in sheet resistance of imidazole‐treated PEDOT:PSS after 500 h under harsh conditions (85 °C and 85% humidity) is half that of the untreated samples, demonstrating the great enhancement of the stability. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A hole‐injection/transport bilayer structure on an indium tin oxide (ITO) layer was fabricated using two photocrosslinkable polymers with different molecular energy levels. Two photoreactive polymers were synthesized using 2,7‐(or 3,6‐)‐dibromo‐9‐(6‐((3‐methyloxetan‐3‐yl)methoxy)hexyl)‐9H‐carbazole) and 2,4‐dimethyl‐N,N‐bis(4‐ (4,4,5,5‐tetramethyl‐1,3,2‐dioxaborolan‐2‐yl)phenyl)aniline via a Suzuki coupling reaction. When the oxetane groups were photopolymerized in the presence of a cationic photoinitiator, the photocured film showed good solvent resistance and compatibility with a poly(N‐vinylcarbazole) (PVK)‐based emitting layer. Without the use of a conventional hole injection layer (HIL) of poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)/(polystyrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), the resulting green light‐emitting device bearing PVK: 5‐4‐tert‐butylphenyl‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole (PBD):Ir(Cz‐ppy)3 exhibited a maximum external quantum efficiency of 9.69%; this corresponds to a luminous efficiency of 29.57 cd/A for the device K‐4 configuration ITO/POx‐I/POx‐II/PVK:PBD:Ir(Cz‐ppy)3/triazole/Alq3/LiF/Al. These values are much higher than those of PLEDs using conventional PEDOT:PSS as a single HIL. The significant improvement in device efficiency is the result of suppression of the hole injection/transport properties through double‐layered photocrosslinked‐conjugated polymers. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have investigated the electrical transport properties of poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophen)/poly(4‐styrene‐sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) with PEDOT‐to‐PSS ratios from 1:1 to 1:30. By combining impedance spectroscopy with thermoelectric measurements, we are able to independently determine the variation of electrical conductivity and charge carrier density with PSS content. We find the charge carrier density to be independent of the PSS content. Using a generalized effective media theory, we show that the electrical conductivity in PEDOT:PSS can be understood as percolation between sites of highly conducting PEDOT:PSS complexes with a conductivity of 2.3 (Ωcm)?1 in a matrix of excess PSS with a low conductivity of 10?3 (Ω cm)?1. In addition to the transport properties, the thermoelectric power factors and Seebeck coefficients have been determined. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys, 2012  相似文献

Water‐soluble electrically conductive polymer poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) was synthesized by the enzymatic‐catalyzed method using 3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) as monomer, poly(styrenesulfonate) (PSS) as water‐soluble polyelectrolyte, horseradish peroxidase enzyme as catalyst, and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as oxidant. Fourier transform infrared spectra and UV–vis absorption spectra confirm the successful enzymatic‐catalyzed polymerization of PEDOT. Dynamic light scattering data confirm the formation of a stable PEDOT:PSS aqueous dispersion. The thermo gravimetric data show that the obtained PEDOT is stable over a fairly high range of temperatures. The atomic force microscopy height images show that the PEDOT:PSS aqueous dispersion can form excellent homogeneous and smooth films on various substrates by conventional solution processing techniques, which renders this PEDOT:PSS aqueous dispersion a very promising candidate for various application in electronic devices. This enzymatic polymerization is a new approach for the synthesis of optical and electrical active PEDOT polymer, which benefits simple setting, high yields, and environmental friendly route. This study reports the synthesis, curing, and optoelectronic properties of a solution‐processable, thermally cross‐linkable electron‐ and hole‐blocking material containing fluorene‐core and three periphery N‐phenyl‐N‐(4‐vinylphenyl)benzeneamine ( FTV ). The FTV exhibited good thermal stability with Td above 478 °C in nitrogen atmosphere. The FTV is readily cross‐linked via terminal vinyl groups by heating at 160 °C for 30 min to obtain homogeneous film with excellent solvent resistance. Multilayer PLED device [ITO/PEDOT:PSS/cured‐ FTV /MEH‐PPV/Ca (50 nm)/Al (100 nm)] was successfully fabricated using solution processed. Inserting cured‐ FTV is between PEDOT:PSS and MEH‐PPV results in simultaneous reduction in hole injection from PEDOT:PSS to MEH‐PPV and blocking in electron transport from MEH‐PPV to anode. The maximum luminance and maximum current efficiency were enhanced from 1810 and 0.27 to 4640 cd/m2 and 1.08 cd/A, respectively, after inserting cured‐ FTV layer. Current results demonstrate that the thermally cross‐linkable FTV enhances not only device efficiency but also film homogeneity after thermal curing. FTV is a promising electron‐ and hole‐blocking material applicable for the fabrication of multilayer PLEDs based on PPV derivatives. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article reports the synthesis and characterization of a novel thermally crosslinkable hole‐transporting poly (fluorene‐co‐triphenylamine) (PFO‐TPA) by Suzuki coupling reaction, followed with its application in the fabrication of multilayer light‐emitting diodes by wet processes. The thermal, photophysical, and electrochemical properties of PFO‐TPA were investigated by differential scanning calorimeter, thermogravimetric analysis, optical spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry, respectively. Thermally crosslinked PFO‐TPA, through pendant styryl groups, demonstrates excellent thermal stability (Td > 400 °C, Tg = 152 °C), solvent resistance, and film homogeneity. Its highest occupied molecular orbital level (?5.30 eV) lies between those of PEDOT:PSS (?5.0 ~ ?5.2 eV) and poly(9,9‐dioctylfluorene) (PFO: ?5.70 eV), forming a stepwise energy ladder to facilitate hole injection. Multilayer device with crosslinked PFO‐TPA as hole‐injection layer (HIL) (ITO/PEDOT:PSS/HIL/PFO/LiF/Ca/Al) was readily fabricated by successive spin‐coating processes, its maximum luminance efficiency (3.16 cd/A) were about six times higher than those without PFO‐TPA layer (0.50 cd/A). The result of hole‐only device also confirmed hole‐injection and hole‐transport abilities of crosslinked PFO‐TPA layer. Consequently, the device performance enhancement is attributed to more balanced charges injection in the presence of crosslinked PFO‐TPA layer. The thermally crosslinkable PFO‐TPA is a promising material for the fabrication of efficient multilayer polymer light‐emitting diodes because it is not only a hole‐transporting polymer but also thermally crosslinkable. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
