The energy flow lines (field lines of the Poynting vector) of electric dipole radiation exhibit a vortex structure in the near field when the dipole moment of the source is in circular rotation. The spatial extend of this vortex is smaller than a wavelength and may not be observable by a measurement in the near field. We show that the rotation of the field lines close to the source affects the image of the dipole in the far field, and this opens the possibility for observation of this vortex by a measurement in the far field. 相似文献

The author investigated second-harmonic (SH) wave patterns generated by focused vortex beams with radial and azimuthal polarizations. Expressions for electric field components near the focus through a dielectric interface were obtained based on vector diffraction theory. Furthermore, the (110) and (001) planes of a crystal classified in the symmetry group 4?3m were considered as second order nonlinear optical medium to analyze nonlinear polarization and the intensity distributions of the SH wave in the far-field were simulated for topological charge m = 1 and 2. Numerical simulations indicated that the intensity and emission pattern of the SH wave depended principally on the electric field component and distribution near the focus. In particular, for the (001) plane, the intensity of the SH wave was strongly correlated with the existence of a longitudinal electric field. 相似文献

When a small particle is illuminated by a circularly polarized laser beam, the induced electric dipole moment rotates in a plane. The flow lines of the emitted electromagnetic energy are the field lines of the Poynting vector. When the particle is embedded in a dielectric, these field lines have a vortex structure, and the rotation in the vortex has the same orientation as the rotation direction of the dipole. We show that when the embedding medium is a negative index of refraction material, the direction of rotation in the vortex is reversed. 相似文献

An impact of the equilibrium radial electric field on energy loss processes after pedestal collapse is numerically investigated using the BOUT++ framework. Using linear stability analysis, the resistive ballooning mode is shown to be stabilized by the radial shear of the equilibrium radial electric field. On the other hand, the energy loss level after the pedestal collapse increases if the equilibrium radial electric field is taken into account. The spatio-temporal and phase diagram analyses show that the equilibrium radial electric field partially cancels the fluctuation-driven toroidally axisymmetric radial electric field and weakens the E × B shearing rate after pedestal collapse, weakening the turbulence suppression by vortex shearing. The equilibrium radial electric field therefore increases turbulence intensity in nonlinear cyclic oscillations among pressure gradient, E × B shearing rate, and turbulence intensity, which gives rise to subsequent bursts of turbulent transport and increases the energy loss level. 相似文献

Effective Hamiltonians have been used (i) to demonstrate that the shape asymmetry of ferromagnetic rings is essential to the recently discovered switching of the chirality of their vortices by homogeneous magnetic fields, via a transition into onion states; (ii) to reveal that an electric vortex can also be controlled by a homogeneous electric field in asymmetric ferroelectric nanorings, via the formation of antiferrotoroidic pair states rather than onion states; and (iii) to provide the fundamental reason that allows such control, namely, two new interaction energies involving a vector characterizing the asymmetry, the applied field, and the toroidal moment. 相似文献
