INEQUALITIES FOR Lp-MIXED CURVATURE IMAGES

Lutwak, Yang, and Zhang posed the notion of Lp-curvature images and established several Lp analogs of the affne isoperimetric inequality. In this article, the notion of Lp-mixed curvature images is introduced, Lp-curvature images being a special case. The properties and Lp analogs of the affne isoperimetric inequality are established for Lp-mixed curvature images.     

Linear-topological classification of separableL p-spaces associated with von Neumann algebras of type I

We classify, up to a linear-topological isomorphism, all separableL _p-spaces, 1≤p<∞, associated with von Neumann algebras of type I. In particular, anyL _p-space associated with an infinite-dimensional atomic von Neumann algebra is isomorphic tol _p, or toC _p, or to . Further, anyL _p-space,p∈[1,∞),p∈2 associated with an infinite-dimensional von Neumann algebraM of type I is isomorphic to one of the following nine Banach spaces: l_p, L_p, S_P, C_p, S_p ⊕ L_p, L_p(S_p), C_p ⊕ L_p, L_p(C_p), C_p ⊕ L_p(S_p). In the casep=1 all the spaces in this list are pairwise non-isomorphic. Research supported by the Australian Research Council.     

Some complete metrics on spaces of fuzzy subsets

The classes of the L_p,∞- and L_p-metrics play an important role to develop a probability theory in fuzzy sample spaces. All of these metrics are known to be separable, but not complete. The classes are closely related as for each L_p,∞-metric there exists some L_p-metric which induces the same topology. This paper deals with the completion of the L_p,∞- and L_p-metrics. We can also show that the relationship between the classes of L_p,∞- and L_p-metrics still holds for the obtained respective classes of their completions.     

The L p -curvature images of convex bodies and L p -projection bodies

Associated with the L _p -curvature image defined by Lutwak, some inequalities for extended mixed p-affine surface areas of convex bodies and the support functions of L _p -projection bodies are established. As a natural extension of a result due to Lutwak, an L _p -type affine isoperimetric inequality, whose special cases are L _p -Busemann-Petty centroid inequality and L _p -affine projection inequality, respectively, is established. Some L _p -mixed volume inequalities involving L _p -projection bodies are also established.

On some algebra of continuous linear operators

We present a criterion for an operator on L _p to belong to the set I _p of all sums of integral operators on L _p and multiplication operators by functions in L _∞. We describe the closure of I _p in the operator norm. We prove that the set L _p,1 of all sums of multiplication operators and operators on L _p mapping the unit ball of L _p into compact subsets of L ₁ is a Banach algebra.

The Shephard type problems and monotonicity for L p -mixed centroid body

Lutwak and Zhang proposed the notion of L _p -centroid body. Further, Ma gave the definition of L _p -mixed centroid body, and obtained affirmative form for the Shephard type problems of L _p -mixed centroid body. In this article, we first give another affirmative form of the Shephard type problems for L _p -mixed centroid body, meanwhile, obtain its negative form. Next, we also give an extension of the generalized Funk’s section theorem for L _p -mixed centroid body. Finally, we establish two monotonicity inequalities of L _p -mixed centroid body.     

A sharp nonasymptotic bound and phase diagram of L 1/2 regularization

We derive a sharp nonasymptotic bound of parameter estimation of the L1/2 regularization.The bound shows that the solutions of the L1/2 regularization can achieve a loss within logarithmic factor of an ideal mean squared error and therefore underlies the feasibility and effectiveness of the L1/2regularization.Interestingly,when applied to compressive sensing,the L1/2 regularization scheme has exhibited a very promising capability of completed recovery from a much less sampling information.As compared with the Lp(0 p 1) penalty,it is appeared that the L1/2 penalty can always yield the most sparse solution among all the Lp penalty when 1/2 ≤ p 1,and when 0 p 1/2,the Lp penalty exhibits the similar properties as the L1/2 penalty.This suggests that the L1/2 regularization scheme can be accepted as the best and therefore the representative of all the Lp(0 p 1) regularization schemes.     

On the L p -dual mixed volumes

We establish the cyclic inequality for i-th L p-dual mixed volume and Lp-dual Urysohn inequality between p-mean width and Lp-dual quermassintegral. Moreover, the dual isoperimetric inequality for Lp-dual mixed volume is proved, which is an extension of the classical dual isoperimetric inequality.
