The major objective of this research was to modify the surface characteristics of poly(L ‐lactide) (PLA) by grafting a combination of hydrophilic polymers to produce a continuum of hydrophilicity. The PLA film was solvent cast, and the film surfaces were activated by ultra violet (UV) irradiation. A single monomer or combination of two monomers, selected from vinyl acetate (VAc), acrylic acid (AA), and acrylamide (AAm), were then grafted to the PLA film surface using a UV induced photopolymerization process. The film surfaces resulting from each reaction step were analyzed using ATR‐FTIR spectroscopy and contact angle goniometry. Results showed that AAm dominated the hydrophilicity of the film surface when copolymerized with VAc or AA, while the water contact angles for PLA films grafted with poly(vinyl acetate‐co‐acrylic acid) varied more gradually with feed composition. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Graft copolymerization of low‐density polyethylene (LDPE) with a maleic anhydride (MAH) was performed using intermeshing corotating twin‐screw extruder in the presence of benzoyl peroxide (BPO). The LDPE/polyamide 6 (PA6) and LDPE‐g‐MAH/PA6 blends were prepared in a corotating twin‐screw extruder. The melt viscosity of the grafted LDPE was measured by a capillary rheometer. The grafted copolymer was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microcopy (SEM). The influence of the variation in temperature, BPO and MAH concentration, and temperature on the grafting degree and on the melt viscosity was studied. The grafting degree increased appreciably up to about 0.45 phr and then decreased continuously with an increasing BPO concentration. According to the FTIR analysis, it was found that the amount of grafted MAH on the LDPE chains was ~5.1%. Thermal analysis showed that melting temperature of the graft copolymers decreases with increasing grafting degree. In addition to this, loss modulus (E″) of the copolymers first increased little with increasing grafting and then obviously decreased with increasing grafting degree. Furthermore, the results revealed that the tensile strength of the blends increased linearly with increasing PA6 content. The results of SEM and mechanical test showed that the blends have good interfacial adhesion and good stability of the phase structure, which is reflected in the mechanical properties. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 采用接枝量、ATR-IR、SEM、与水接触角、溶血试验和再钙化时间等测试手段研究了电火花引发甲基丙烯酸β-羟乙酯(HEMA)表面接枝低密度聚乙烯(LAPE)薄膜的接枝聚合反应影响因素、表面结构和血液相容性。结果表明,电火花能有效引发HEMA在LDMA薄膜表面接枝聚合反应,随接枝聚合反应时间延长、单体浓度的增大。接枝量增大。随反应温度升高,接枝量增大到一最大值后,进一步升高反应温度,接枝量下降,最佳接枝聚合温度为60℃当在60℃单体φ=5%水溶液是反应2h时,经空气气氛和1.5kV电火花预处理72s和LDPE薄膜表面接枝量可达169ug/cm^2。接枝改性后LDPE薄膜与水的接触下降,亲水性增加,溶血程度减小,再钙化时间延长,血液相容性得到改善。  相似文献

The hydrophobic solid surface modification with fluorine‐containing monomers has received tremendous attention because of its unique structure and excellent property. However, these hydrophobic films normally suffer from two major problems: one is weak interface interaction between fluoropolymers and substrates, and the other is the high cost of fluorine‐containing monomers. Herein, with the aim of feasible industrial application, a facile in situ UV photo‐grafting method is reported, which could ensure the formation of chemical bonds between fluoropolymer‐grafted layer and substrate with a low cost commercial 2,2,2‐trifluoroethyl methacrylate (TFEMA) as monomer. With low‐density polyethylene (LDPE) film as a model substrate, four kinds of poly‐TFEMA‐grafted layer are fabricated on LDPE films with different surface morphologies: polymer brush, polymer network, crosslinked nanoparticles, and a micro‐ and nanoscale hierarchical structure. The experimental results showed that the water contact angles (CAs) of the LDPE films grafted with polymer brush, polymer network, and crosslinked nanoparticles were (103 ± 2)°, (95 ± 2)°, and (122 ± 2)°, respectively, which were much higher than that of LDPE film. The introduction of micro‐ and nanoscale hierarchical structures can dramatically improve the surface roughness, which will further enhance the film hydrophobicity, and the water CA can reach as high as (140 ± 1)°. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Methyl methacrylate (MMA), acrylic acid (AAc), and vinyl acetate (VAc) were graft copolymerized onto Himachali wool in an aqueous medium by using vanadium oxyacetyl acetonate as initiator. Graft copolymerization was studied at 45, 55, 65, and 75°C for various reaction periods. The percentage of grafting was determined as functions of concentration of monomers, concentration of initiator, time, and temperature. The maximum percentage of grafting with each monomer occurred at 55°. Several grafting experiments were carried out in the presence of various additives which include HNO3, DMSO, and pyridine. Nitric acid was found to promote grafting of MMA. All these additives had adverse effects on grafting of VAc and AAc. MMA, VAc, and AAc were found to differ in reactivity toward grafting and followed the order MMA > AAc > VAc.  相似文献

研究了以二苯甲酮 (BP)为光敏剂 ,丙烯酸在低密度聚乙烯 (LDPE)膜上两步法气相光接枝聚合 ;从反应的基本要素出发 ,利用紫外光分光光度计跟踪测定了二苯甲酮在LDPE膜中的扩散情况 ,发现其扩散系数随BP浓度的升高而降低 ,约在 0 8~ 2 0× 10 -12 m2 ·s-1之间 .同样方法跟踪测定了BP在不同条件下的光还原反应 ,结果表明 :当远紫外光被滤掉后 ,其半衰期大大加长 ,氧气的存在更是加剧了这一效应 ;并且通过测定不同条件下气相光接枝聚合的一些基本规律 ,提出单体扩散为该气相光接枝聚合的控制步骤  相似文献

Methyl acrylate (MA), vinyl acetate (VAc) and their binary mixture (MA + VAc) have been graft copolymerized onto poly(vinyl alcohol) using γ-rays as initiator by mutual radiation method in aqueous medium. The optimum conditions for affording maximum grafting have been evaluated. The percentage of grafting has been determined as a function of total dose, concentrations of poly(vinyl alcohol), MA, VAc, and their binary mixture. Rate of grafting (Rp) and induction period (Ip) have been determined as a function of total initial mixed monomer concentration and concentration of poly(vinyl alcohol). The graft copolymer has been characterized by thermogravimetric method. The effect of donor monomer (vinyl acetate) on percent grafting of acceptor monomer (methyl acrylate) has been explained.  相似文献

Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) is a semiaromatic thermoplastic polyester used in many fields. For specific applications, controlled of the surface wettability (hydrophily/hydrophoby) could be a great challenge. Aminolysis of PET surfaces with branched polyethylenimine gives amino functional groups on the surface with high grafting density. Then, in a second step, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) initiator was grafted by reaction with 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide. Surface initiated ATRP of 2‐lactobionamidoethyl methacrylate (LAMA) was performed in solution in the presence of a sacrificial initiator or an appropriate amount of Cu(II) species that act as deactivator. The efficiency of all reactions was confirmed by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Wetting properties and surface energy were found to vary systematically depending to the type of functionalization and grafting. The quantity of grafted carbohydrate was determined by phenol/sulfuric acid colorimetric titration. The sugar graft density was observed to vary according to the ratio (monomer)/(free initiator). Four different xanthates containing either phosphonate or bisphosphonate moieties were synthesized with high degree of purity. These xanthates were used as chain transfer agents (CTA) in the RAFT/MADIX polymerization of vinyl acetate (VAc) to prepare end‐capped poly(VAc). The rate of VAc polymerization in the presence of these new CTAs was shown to be similar to that obtained with conventional xanthate, that is, (methyl ethoxycarbonothioyl) sulfanyl acetate. Good control of VAc polymerization was also obtained since the molecular weight increased linearly with monomer conversion for each phosphonate‐containing xanthate. Low‐PDI values were obtained, ascribed to efficient exchange during RAFT/MADIX polymerization. A chiral capillary monolithic column for enantiomer separation in capillary electrochromatography was prepared by coating cellulose tris(3,5‐dimethylphenylcarbamate) on porous glycidyl methacrylate‐co‐ethylene dimethacrylate monolith in capillary format grafted with chains of [2(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride. The surface modification of the monolith by the photografting of [2(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride monomer as well as the coating conditions of cellulose tris(3,5‐dimethylphenylcarbamate) onto the grafted monolithic scaffold were optimized to obtain a stable and reproducible chiral stationary phase for capillary electrochromatography. The effect of organic modifier (acetonitrile) in aqueous mobile phase for the enantiomer separation by capillary electrochromatography was also investigated. Several pairs of enantiomers including acidic, neutral, and basic analytes were tested and most of them were partially or completely resolved under aqueous mobile phases. The prepared monolithic chiral stationary phases exhibited a good stability, repeatability, and column‐to‐column reproducibility, with relative standard deviations below 11% in the studied electrochromatographic parameters.  相似文献

Mesoporous silica particles were grafted with thermoresponsive poly(ethyleneoxide‐b‐N‐vinylcaprolactam), PEO‐b‐PVCL. N‐vinylcaprolactam was first polymerized on particle surfaces using surface initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI‐ATRP) and then, the poly(ethyleneoxide) blocks were attached to the PVCL chain ends with click chemistry. The sizes, thermoresponsiviness, and colloidal stability of SiO2‐PVCL and SiO2‐PVCL‐b‐PEO particles and their aqueous dispersions were studied by scanning electron microscopy, turbidimetry, dynamic light scattering, zeta sizer, and microcalorimetry. The phase separation temperature of the PEO‐b‐PVCL grafted particles did not considerably differ from that of the SiO2‐PVCL particles. The zeta potential of the grafted particles was close to zero at room temperature but decreased strongly upon heating. The decrease is related to the collapse of the PVCL blocks and correspondingly, the exposure of the silica surface toward the aqueous phase. The colloidal stability of the particles could be enhanced by adding PEO blocks to the chain ends of the PVCL grafts. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Graft polymerization initiated by diperiodatocuprate(III) complex (Cu(III)) initiator was found to be an effective and convenient method for graft polymerization of vinyl monomers onto macroporous polyacrylamide gels, the so‐called cryogels (pAAm‐cryogels). The effect of time, temperature, monomer and initiator concentration during the graft polymerization in aqueous and aqueous‐organic media was studied. The graft polymerization of water‐soluble monomers as [2‐(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]‐trimethylammonium chloride, 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate, N‐isopropylacrylamide, and N,N‐dimethylacrylamide proceeds with higher grafting yield in aqueous medium, as compared with that in aqueous‐organic media. Graft polymerization in aqueous‐organic media such as water–DMSO solutions allows grafting of water‐insoluble monomers such as glycidyl methacrylate and Ntert‐butylacrylamide with high grafting degrees of 100 and 410%, respectively. It was found that the deposition of initiator on the pore surface of cryogels promoted graft polymerization by facilitating the formation of the redox couple Cu(III)‐acrylamide group. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We describe the synthesis and characterization of a series of poly(vinyl acetate‐co‐dibutyl maleate) [P(VAc‐DBM)] latex particles (monomer molar ratio 10.6:1). One set of samples [high‐M and M250k SDS‐P(VAc‐DBM), gel content 50% and 0%] was prepared in the presence of an anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate. The other two sets of samples [high‐M and M250k PVOH–P(VAc‐DBM)] were prepared in the presence of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH). These polymers differ in gel content (50 and 0%) and the extent of PVOH grafting (30 and 15%). Polymer diffusion across cell boundaries in the latex films was monitored by fluorescence resonant energy transfer (ET) experiments. First, we examined M250k samples in the presence of grafted and post‐added PVOH. The presence of post‐added PVOH (5%) causes a small but detectable retardation on the rate of polymer diffusion, whereas the presence of grafted PVOH (degree of grafting: 15%) significantly promotes the polymer diffusion rate. For the high‐M P(VAc‐DBM), the presence of post‐added PVOH also retards the polymer diffusion. Strikingly, the presence of grafted PVOH (degree of grafting: 30%) in the high‐M PVOH‐P(VAc‐DBM) promotes the polymer diffusion to such an extent that the diffusion was complete in the freshly prepared films. Our data also suggest that under our experimental conditions, the rate of P(VAc‐DBM) diffusion increases with an increase of the degree of PVOH grafting. To confirm these results, we carried out fluorescence microscopy experiments to monitor the fate of PVOH in these latex films and found that in newly formed PVOH–P(VAc‐DBM) films, the PVOH was either uniformly distributed in the P(VAc‐DBM) matrix or the domains were too small to be resolved (i.e., < 0.5 μm). © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Controlled radical polymerization of N‐vinylcaprolactam (NVCL) via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization or macromolecular design via the interchange of xanthate (MADIX) was described, employing 2‐diphenylthiocarbamoylsulfanyl‐2‐methyl‐propionic acid (CTA1), ((O‐ethylxanthyl)methyl)benzene (CTA2) and (1‐(O‐ethylxanthyl)ethyl)benzene (CTA3) as chain transfer agents (CTA). It was found that all the CTAs led to controlled radical polymerization of NVCL, with the molecular weight increased along with the conversion of monomer and a relatively narrow molecular weight distribution could be obtained, as determined with matrix‐assisted laser desorption and ionization time‐of‐flight (MALDI‐TOF) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC), the polydispersity indices, as determined by MALDI‐TOF, were typically on the order of 1.24, but the polymerization did not proceed in a strictly living manner. The chain transfer ability of these CTAs was in the following order: CTA1 ≈ CTA2 < CTA3. MALTI‐TOF measurement showed that the major population of polymer retained the chain‐end functional group, but minor population deactivated by radical coupling. In preparation of the block copolymer of NVCL and vinyl acetate (VAc) by sequential polymerization, the sequence of monomer addition was important. Using VAc as the first monomer could lead to a block copolymer presenting a unimodal GPC trace and a narrow PDI index, and if NVCL was used as the first monomer, the polymerization was less well controlled. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polylactide (PLA)‐grafted dextran was synthesized with a trimethylsilyl protection method to produce novel biodegradable, biomedical materials. PLA‐grafted dextrans with various lengths and numbers of graft chains were synthesized. The properties of solution‐cast films prepared from PLA‐grafted dextrans were investigated with thermal and dynamic mechanical analyses. The graft‐copolymer films exhibited lower glass‐transition temperatures, melting temperatures (Tm's), and crystallinities as well as higher viscosity properties as compared with poly‐L ‐lactide film. The Tm and crystallinity and mechanical properties at 37 °C could be adjusted by controlling the molecular structure such as the lengths and numbers of graft chains. Furthermore, the biodegradability of PLA‐grafted dextran films was investigated through the weight change of film and the molecular weight change of polymer during the in vitro degradation test. PLA‐grafted dextrans exhibited different degradation behavior from poly‐L ‐lactide with the introduction of a polysaccharide segment and branched structure as well as the change of end‐functional group. The degradation rate of PLA‐grafted dextran and the cast film prepared from PLA‐grafted dextran could be adjusted by controlling the sugar content or the length of graft chains. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The objective of the present study was to determine the best molecular balance between the two hydrogenated polybutadiene (HPB) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) blocks that promotes an HPB‐b‐PMMA diblock copolymer with efficient compatibilization activity in a low‐density polyethylene (LDPE)/PMMA immiscible blend. The model blend selected, LDPE/PMMA, is “more immiscible” than the LDPE/polystyrene pair largely reported in open literature. The blends having a composition of 80LDPE/20PMMA exhibit a droplet‐in‐matrix phase morphology whereas in 20LDPE/80PMMA a co‐continuous phase morphology was developed. In the droplet‐in‐matrix phase morphology, the emulsifying efficiency of the copolymer was evaluated based on the maximum reduction of the PMMA droplet size it is able to promote. Whereas, in the co‐continuous phase morphology, the copolymer was evaluated based on its ability to stabilize the maximum phase co‐continuity. The sequences of the best emulsifying copolymer revealed are not symmetrical. An HPB‐b‐PMMA where the ratio of molar mass of the blocks, HPB/ PMMA, is within 1.8–1.95 exhibits a much better interfacial activity in LDPE/PMMA blends than a copolymer of much lower ratio (longer PMMA block). This is ascribed to the much higher interactions (cohesive energy density) encountered in PMMA (PMMA of the copolymer and PMMA phase of the blend) compared with the LDPE side (HPB of the copolymer and LDPE phase of the blend). © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 通过紫外光引发表面接枝聚合反应的方法 ,把含氟丙烯酸酯单体R 5 6 1 0引到LDPE薄膜上 .对经丁酮抽提后的接枝膜进行FTIR、ESCA、SEM和DSC等表征 ,证实含氟聚合物以化学键的方式接枝在LDPE基体膜上 .在一定范围内 ,增加紫外光强、引发剂和单体浓度以及反应温度等均有利于提高接枝率 .经计算R 5 6 1 0的紫外光引发接枝聚合反应总活化能为 5 4 2kJ mol.接枝膜的接触角随着接枝率的提高逐步增大 ,直至趋于恒定 .作者提出接枝膜存在一个在接触角测定时影响基体膜与探测水滴相互作用过程的边界层 .当接枝率较低、接枝层厚度小于边界层临界厚度时 ,基体LDPE影响接触角的大小 ,但随着接枝率提高 ,接枝层逐渐变厚 ,氟聚合物层对接触角的贡献逐渐占优势 ,导致接触角随之增大 .当接枝率超过一定值以后 ,接枝层厚度超过边界层临界厚度 ,接枝层对接枝膜的接触角起全部贡献 ,接触角测定值随之稳定  相似文献

The synthesis of poly(ionic liquid) (PIL) nanoparticles grafted with a poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM) brush shell is reported, which shows responsiveness to temperature and ionic strength in an aqueous solution. The PIL nanoparticles are first prepared via aqueous dispersion polymerization of a vinyl imidazolium‐based ionic liquid monomer, which is purposely designed to bear a distal atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) initiating group attached to the long alkyl chain via esterification reaction. The size of the PIL nanoparticles can be readily tuned from 25 to 120 nm by polymerization at different monomer concentrations. PNIPAM brushes are successfully grafted from the surface of the poly(ionic liquid) nanoparticles via ATRP. The stimuli‐responsive behavior of the poly(ionic liquid) nanoparticles grafted with PNIPAM brushes (NP‐g‐PNIPAM) in aqueous phase is studied in detail. Enhanced colloidal stability of the NP‐g‐PNIPAM brush particles at high ionic strength compared to pure PIL nanoparticles at room temperature is achieved. Above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of PNIPAM, the brush particles remain stable, but a decrease in hydrodynamic radius due to the collapse of the PNIPAM brush onto the PIL nanoparticle surface is observed.

The living free radical polymerizations of vinyl acetate (VAc) were successfully achieved in the presence of a novel organic selenium compound (diselenocarbonates), with 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the initiator. The living characteristics of the VAc polymerization were confirmed by the linear first‐order kinetic plots and linear increase of molecular weights (Mn) of the polymers with monomer conversions, while keeping the relatively low molecular weight distributions.
