In this study, a precise method to evaluate nonlinear optical absorption and refraction of materials using z-scan method based on Fresnel–Kirchhoff integral method (FK method) has been offered. The real electric field of a Gaussian beam passing through a nonlinear sample having both nonlinear absorption and refraction has been investigated using FK method. Subsequently, the z-scan curves have been studied. This is the first time that FK method has been used for calculating the nonlinear absorption coefficient. Additionally, an appropriate numerical curve-fitting method for calculating the nonlinear optical coefficients based on z-scan method has been suggested. Z-scan curves and nonlinear optical coefficients have been obtained for TiO2 nanoparticles in CW irradiation regime with the particle size ranges from 70 to 90 nm. This is the first experimental study which uses this analytical numerical method. Finally, all calculated results extracted from this new method have been compared with those of the previous methods.  相似文献

利用纳秒脉冲激光下的z扫描方法对两种新型卟啉衍生物在450 nm—490 nm范围内的反饱和吸收进行了研究.通过与四苯基卟啉的比较发现,在Soret和Q吸收带之间,两种新型卟啉衍生物都具有大的反饱和吸收.采用五能级模型对实验结果进行了分析,比较了在不同波长范围内各个样品的优势.实验结果表明,在450 nm—490 nm范围内,两种新型的卟啉衍生物有着比四苯基卟啉更好的光限制应用前景. 关键词: 反饱和吸收 z扫描')" href="#">z扫描 卟啉衍生物  相似文献

We propose a new technique to perform measurements of nonlinearities in optical waveguides based on the variation of an optical pulse chirp. This technique is analogous to the z-scan technique in the time domain. We analyze the new experimental method analytically and numerically, obtaining an useful expression relating the nonlinearity with a peak-valley structure. We observed multiple diffraction rings of a cw Ar+ laser beam from a nitrobenzene solution of saturable absorber BDN (bis-(4-dimethylaminodithiobenzil)-nickel) caused by the spatial self-phase modulation at low incident optical intensities. We obtained 37 rings for a 200-μm thick sample at an optical intensity of 38 W/mm2. The refractive-index change Δ;n and effective nonlinear refractive index n2 were determined from the number of observed rings and by the z-scan technique. We obtained large values of Δ;n∼0.1 and n2 = -2.9×;10-5 cm2/W. This large nonlinearity is attributed to a thermal effect resulting from linear absorption.  相似文献

Accurate knowledge of absorption coefficient of a sample is a prerequisite for measuring the third-order optical nonlinearity of materials, which can be a serious limitation for unknown samples. We introduce a method, which measures both the absorption coefficient and the third-order optical nonlinearity of materials with high sensitivity in a single experimental arrangement. We use a dual-beam pump-probe experiment and conventional single-beam z-scan under different conditions to achieve this goal with communication relevant wavelength. We also demonstrate a counterintuitive coupling of the non-interacting probe-beam with the pump-beam in pump-probe z-scan experiment.  相似文献

Third-order nonlinearity induced by femtosecond pulses in ZnTe is investigated experimentally. We employ the transmission z-scan technique, using femtosecond pulses at 810 nm, to determine Kerr-type nonlinearity in ZnTe. This paper reports the theoretical study of combining Z-scan technique with Gauss-Bessel (GB) beams beside a phase object (PO) to measure the third-order nonlinear susceptibility components.By using this method,the sign of refractive index which depends on the shape of the close aperture Z-scan curve can be easily determined.Meanwhile,the magnitude of nonlinear coefficients can also be deduced by theoretical fit.The proposed method is advantageous for high sensitivity and imposes a lower stress in the cases of fragile materials,since small pulse energy is enough for the measurement of nonlinear coefficients.Predictions of the models are compared with Gaussian Z-scan measurement and GB Z-scan measurement.By using GB beams with a PO,the sensitivity of Z-scan measurements is found to be a factor of over 60 times greater than for Gaussian beams and 2 times greater than for Gaussian-Bessel beams.  相似文献

In this article, the z-scan method has been corrected for the case of saturation in absorption. Using the principle relations of the changes in the transmitted beam through a Kerr sample and Fresnel–Kirchoff integral method, a proper model is offered to evaluate the electric field in any point of the far field. This model contains both the saturation intensity and nonlinear refractive index simultaneously. Based on this study, a precise method to evaluate the nonlinear indices is obtained. Finally, this model is used in the precise study of z-scan curves for γ-Al2O3 nanocolloid and its saturation intensity and nonlinear refractive index have been obtained precisely.  相似文献

The nonlinear optical properties of a GaAs crystal are investigated by the z-scan method. An increase (by a factor of more than 10) in the concentration of defects was observed in the GaAs crystal subjected to long-term pulsed laser irradiation (more than 104 pulses, τ = 35 ps, λ = 1.064 μm) near the optical damage threshold.  相似文献

Stable gold nanoparticles have been prepared by using soluble starch as both the reducing and stabilizing agents; this reaction was carried out at 40 °C for 5 h. The obtained gold nanoparticles were characterized by UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and z-scan technique. The size of these nanoparticles was found to be in the range of 12–22 nm as analyzed using transmission electron micrographs. The optical properties of gold nanoparticles have been measured showing the surface plasmon resonance. The second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties were investigated by using a continuous-wave (CW) He–Ne laser beam with a wavelength of 632.8 nm at three different incident intensities by means of single beam techniques. The nonlinear refractive indices of gold nanoparticles were obtained from close aperture z-scan in order of 10?7 cm2/W. Then, they were compared with diffraction patterns observed in far-field. The nonlinear absorption of these nanoparticles was obtained from open aperture z-scan technique. The values of nonlinear absorption coefficient are obtained in order of 10?1 cm/W.  相似文献

采用脉冲激光沉积技术在Si(100)和熔石英基片上制备了单相的CuO薄膜.通过X射线衍射仪,拉曼光谱仪,场发射扫描电镜和紫外可见光光度计对薄膜的结构,表面形貌和光学性质进行了表征. 场发射扫描电镜结果表明CuO薄膜中晶粒排列致密且分布均匀,其尺寸约为45nm.结合飞秒激光(800nm,50fs)和Z扫描方法测量了薄膜的三阶非线性光学特性,结果表明CuO薄膜具有超快的非线性光学响应且非线性折射率和非线性吸收系数均为负值,其大小分别为-3.96×10-17 m2< 关键词: CuO薄膜 Z-扫描')" href="#">Z-扫描 三阶光学非线性  相似文献

The nonlinear absorption and nonlinear refractive index of hydrogenated amorphous silicon-selenium (a-Si,Se:H) film prepared by a plasma-enhanced chemical deposition process was measured using a z-scan technique. Intensity dependent transmission was observed and attributed to reverse saturation absorption (optical limiting). The thermal contribution to nonlinear refractive index is discussed. The nonlinear response time was measured by using the pump and probe technique. Reverse saturating absorption was utilized to demonstrate all optical switching.  相似文献

Optical nonlinearity of dye solutions are studied with considerable interest for their wide spread applications ranging from gain media in lasers to all-optical processing signal devices. The third-order nonlinear optical properties of Brilliant Crocein dye was measured by the Z-scan technique and measurements were carried out for different concentrations. The negative sign of the nonlinear refractive index n2 indicates that this material exhibits self-defocusing optical nonlinearity and purely saturation absorption at the wavelength 532 nm of the diode-pumped Nd:YAG. These results show that Brilliant Crocein has potential applications in nonlinear optics.  相似文献

For the first time electric field induced second harmonic (EFISH) generation of femtosecond (fs) laser pulses (λ=800 nm, τ=75±5 fs, rep. rate=80 MHz, E pulse≤10 nJ) is observed in transmission through a thin free-standing silicon (Si) membrane of 10-μm thickness and compared to the well-known EFISH results in reflection by use of the z-scan technique. EFISH in reflection and transmission unequivocally originate from the front and rear Si/SiO2 interfaces, respectively, with SiO2 being the natural oxide on the Si surfaces. Frequency conversion is enhanced by photoinduced electric fields across the Si/SiO2 interfaces caused by charge-carrier injection from Si into the oxide. The z-scan results and time-dependent measurements allow comparison of the EFISH signal amplitudes and time constants detected in transmission and reflection, demonstrating the need for further investigation.  相似文献

We realized and investigated films of zinc-phtalocyanines into poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) for optical limiting applications. The ratio by weight of the compound to the host polymer was 0.083% and 0.15%. Linear optical characterization of films, performed by spectrophotometry, show a low degree of molecular aggregation of zinc-phtalocyanines in the polymeric matrix.Two different type of nonlinear optical investigation were performed separately on the obtained films. Measurements of nonlinear transmission were carried out using a ns Nd:Yag laser followed by OPO (532 nm) and a nonlinear response was observed. From the experimental data, the nonlinear absorption coefficient β was retrieved and found to be 29 and 43 cm/GW, respectively. The measurements of β was also performed via the z-scan technique on the same films, using 100 fs pulses at 800 nm. At this wavelength, the nonlinear absorption coefficient was evaluated to be 0.40 and 0.23 cm/GW.  相似文献

Single beam z-scan measurements have been made on films containing amorphous polycarbonate and the zwitterionic chromophore, PYR-3, that has a very high second order nonlinear optical (NLO) figure of merit. The third order NLO figure of merit is ≈1.6 at 1030 nm and is comparable to that found in organic compounds optimized for high n 2 values. The two-photon absorption coefficient is 2.1×10−12 m/W, which is very low and advantageous for NLO device applications. The third order NLO refractive index is −1.4×10−18 m2/W.  相似文献

Z-Scan experiment using partially coherent beams is investigated theoretically. We derive the expression for the cross-spectral density of the Gaussian Schell-model (GSM) beam passing through the nonlinear thin sample. Then the influences of the aperture radius and the spatial degree of coherence on the z-scan curves are analyzed. We find that transmittance difference ΔTp-v between the peak and valley in z-scan curves decreases gradually with the increment of the aperture radius, which is similar to the case of the fully coherent beams. It is also shown that ΔTp-v is getting bigger with the increment of the spatial degree of coherence α0, and when α0 is larger than a certain value, ΔTp-v becomes almost unchanged. The results show that the z-scan experiment with partially coherent beams may provide a feasible method for measuring the spatial degree of coherence.  相似文献

We present a numerical model to study the wavefront of a Gaussian laser beam propagated through a nonlinear Kerr media. The model is based on the Gaussian decomposition method. The interaction between a laser beam and a self-focusing or self-defocusing media is discussed from the viewpoint of wavefront distortion. The method is useful for simulation of the wavefront of the beam next to the sample. We also compare our results with those obtained from z-scan method. There is a quite good agreement between data from z-scan method and our results.  相似文献
