Compared to conforming P1 finite elements, nonconforming P1 finite element discretizations are thought to be less sensitive to the appearance of distorted triangulations. E.g., optimal-order discrete H1 norm best approximation error estimates for H2 functions hold for arbitrary triangulations. However, the constants in similar estimates for the error of the Galerkin projection for second-order elliptic problems show a dependence on the maximum angle of all triangles in the triangulation. We demonstrate on an example of a special family of distorted triangulations that this dependence is essential, and due to the deterioration of the consistency error. We also provide examples of sequences of triangulations such that the nonconforming P1 Galerkin projections for a Poisson problem with polynomial solution do not converge or converge at arbitrarily low speed. The results complement analogous findings for conforming P1 finite elements.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a finite volume element scheme for a kind of two dimensional semiconductor device simulation. A general framework is developed for finite volume element approximation of the semiconductor problems. We construct a fully discrete finite volume element scheme based on triangulations with a piecewise linear finite element space and a general type of control volume. Optimal-order convergence in H 1-norm is derived.  相似文献

The a posteriori error analysis of conforming finite element discretisations of the biharmonic problem for plates is well established, but nonconforming discretisations are more easy to implement in practice. The a posteriori error analysis for the Morley plate element appears very particular because two edge contributions from an integration by parts vanish simultaneously. This crucial property is lacking for popular rectangular nonconforming finite element schemes like the nonconforming rectangular Morley finite element, the incomplete biquadratic finite element, and the Adini finite element. This paper introduces a novel methodology and utilises some conforming discrete space on macro elements to prove reliability and efficiency of an explicit residual-based a posteriori error estimator. An application to the Morley triangular finite element shows the surprising result that all averaging techniques yield reliable error bounds. Numerical experiments confirm the reliability and efficiency for the established a posteriori error control on uniform and graded tensor-product meshes.  相似文献

The main aim of this paper is to study the error estimates of a rectangular nonconforming finite element for the stationary Navier-Stokes equations under anisotropic meshes. That is, the nonconforming rectangular element is taken as approximation space for the velocity and the piecewise constant element for the pressure. The convergence analysis is presented and the optimal error estimates both in a broken H1-norm for the velocity and in an L2-norm for the pressure are derived on anisotropic meshes.  相似文献

A posteriori error estimators based on quasi-norm gradient recovery are established for the finite element approximation of the p-Laplacian on unstructured meshes. The new a posteriori error estimators provide both upper and lower bounds in the quasi-norm for the discretization error. The main tools for the proofs of reliability are approximation error estimates for a local approximation operator in the quasi-norm.

This paper is devoted to a new error analysis of nonconforming finite element methods.Compared with the classic error analysis in literature, only weak continuity, the F-E-M-Test for nonconforming finite element spaces, and basic Hm regularity for exact solutions of 2m-th order elliptic problems under consideration are assumed. The analysis is motivated by ideas from a posteriori error estimates and projection average operators. One main ingredient is a novel decomposition for some key average terms on(n.1)-dimensional faces by introducing a piecewise constant projection, which defines the generalization to more general nonconforming finite elements of the results in literature. The analysis and results herein are conjectured to apply for all nonconforming finite elements in literature.  相似文献

The main goal of this paper is to present recovery type a posteriori error estimators and superconvergence for the nonconforming finite element eigenvalue approximation of self-adjoint elliptic equations by projection methods. Based on the superconvergence results of nonconforming finite element for the eigenfunction we derive superconvergence and recovery type a posteriori error estimates of the eigenvalue. The results are based on some regularity assumption for the elliptic problem and are applicable to the lowest order nonconforming finite element approximations of self-adjoint elliptic eigenvalue problems with quasi-regular partitions. Therefore, the results of this paper can be employed to provide useful a posteriori error estimators in practical computing under unstructured meshes.  相似文献

The pseudostress approximation of the Stokes equations rewrites the stationary Stokes equations with pure (but possibly inhomogeneous) Dirichlet boundary conditions as another (equivalent) mixed scheme based on a stress in H(div) and the velocity in L2. Any standard mixed finite element function space can be utilized for this mixed formulation, e.g., the Raviart‐Thomas discretization which is related to the Crouzeix‐Raviart nonconforming finite element scheme in the lowest‐order case. The effective and guaranteed a posteriori error control for this nonconforming velocity‐oriented discretization can be generalized to the error control of some piecewise quadratic velocity approximation that is related to the discrete pseudostress. The analysis allows for local inf‐sup constants which can be chosen in a global partition to improve the estimation. Numerical examples provide strong evidence for an effective and guaranteed error control with very small overestimation factors even for domains with large anisotropy.© 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we develop an a posteriori error analysis of a mixed finite element method for a fluid–solid interaction problem posed in the plane. The media are governed by the acoustic and elastodynamic equations in time-harmonic regime, respectively, and the transmission conditions are given by the equilibrium of forces and the equality of the normal displacements of the solid and the fluid. The coupling of primal and dual-mixed finite element methods is applied to compute both the pressure of the scattered wave in the linearized fluid and the elastic vibrations that take place in the elastic body. The finite element subspaces consider continuous piecewise linear elements for the pressure and a Lagrange multiplier defined on the interface, and PEERS for the stress and rotation in the solid domain. We derive a reliable and efficient residual-based a posteriori error estimator for this coupled problem. Suitable auxiliary problems, the continuous inf-sup conditions satisfied by the bilinear forms involved, a discrete Helmholtz decomposition, and the local approximation properties of the Clément interpolant and Raviart–Thomas operator are the main tools for proving the reliability of the estimator. Then, Helmholtz decomposition, inverse inequalities, and the localization technique based on triangle-bubble and edge-bubble functions are employed to show the efficiency. Finally, some numerical results confirming the reliability and efficiency of the estimator are reported.  相似文献

We develop in this article an a posteriori error estimator for the P1‐nonconforming finite element approximation, for a diffusion‐reaction equation. We adopt the error in a constitutive law approach in two and three dimensional space, for not necessary piecewise constant data of problems. The efficiency and the reliability of our estimators are proved, neither Helmholtz decomposition of the error nor saturation assumption. The constants are explicitly given, which prove the robustness of these estimators. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 31: 950–976, 2015  相似文献

In this article, a new stable nonconforming mixed finite element scheme is proposed for the stationary Navier-Stokes equations, in which a new low order CrouzeixRaviart type nonconforming rectangular element is taken for approximating space for the velocity and the piecewise constant element for the pressure. The optimal order error estimates for the approximation of both the velocity and the pressure in L2-norm are established, as well as one in broken H1-norm for the velocity. Numerical experiments are given which are consistent with our theoretical analysis.  相似文献

We present a direct proof of the discrete Poincaré–Friedrichs inequalities for a class of nonconforming approximations of the Sobolev space H 1(Ω), indicate optimal values of the constants in these inequalities, and extend the discrete Friedrichs inequality onto domains only bounded in one direction. We consider a polygonal domain Ω in two or three space dimensions and its shape-regular simplicial triangulation. The nonconforming approximations of H 1(Ω) consist of functions from H 1 on each element such that the mean values of their traces on interelement boundaries coincide. The key idea is to extend the proof of the discrete Poincaré–Friedrichs inequalities for piecewise constant functions used in the finite volume method. The results have applications in the analysis of nonconforming numerical methods, such as nonconforming finite element or discontinuous Galerkin methods.  相似文献

In this article, we develop patch‐wise local projection‐stabilized conforming and nonconforming finite element methods for the convection–diffusion–reaction problems. It is a composition of the standard Galerkin finite element method, the patch‐wise local projection stabilization, and weakly imposed Dirichlet boundary conditions on the discrete solution. In this paper, a priori error analysis is established with respect to a patch‐wise local projection norm for the conforming and the nonconforming finite element methods. The numerical experiments confirm the efficiency of the proposed stabilization technique and validate the theoretical convergence rates.  相似文献

1. IntroductionIn the numerical approximation of PDE, it is often very importals to detect regionswhere the accuracy of the numerical solution is degraded by local singularities of the solutionof the continuous problem such as the singularity near the re-entrant corller. An obviousremedy is to refine the discretization in the critical regions, i.e., to place more gridpointswhere the solution is less regular. The question is how to identify these regions automdticallyand how to determine a goo…  相似文献

The main aim of this paper is to study the approximation to viscoelasticity type equations with a Crouzeix-Raviart type nonconforming finite element on the anisotropic meshes. The superclose property of the exact solution and the optimal error estimate of its derivative with respect to time are derived by using some novel techniques. Moreover, employing a postprocessing technique, the global superconvergence property for the discretization error of the postprocessed discrete solution to the solution itself is studied.  相似文献

This paper deals with a new nonconforming anisotropic rectangular finite element approximation for the planar elasticity problem with pure displacement boundary condition. By use of the special properties of this element, and by introducing the complementary space and a series of novel techniques, the optimal error estimates of the energy norm and the L^2-norm are obtained. The restrictions of regularity assumption and quasi-uniform assumption or the inverse assumption on the meshes required in the conventional finite element methods analysis are to be got rid of and the applicable scope of the nonconforming finite elements is extended.  相似文献
