The typical preparation route of carbon‐supported metallic catalyst is complex and uneconomical. Herein, we reported a thiol‐assisted one‐pot method by using 3‐mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) to synthesize carbon‐supported metal nanoparticles catalysts for efficient electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2RR). We found that the synthesized Au?MPA/C catalyst achieves a maximum CO faradaic efficiency (FE) of 96.2% with its partial current density of ?11.4 mA/cm2, which is much higher than that over Au foil or MPA‐free carbon‐supported Au (Au/C). The performance improvement in CO2RR over the catalyst is probably derived from the good dispersion of Au nanoparticles and the surface modification of the catalyst caused by the specific interaction between Au nanoparticles and MPA. This thiol‐assisted method can be also extended to synthesize Ag?MPA/C with enhanced CO2RR performance.  相似文献

Nitrogen‐doped carbon materials (N‐Cmat) are emerging as low‐cost metal‐free electrocatalysts for the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR), although the activities are still unsatisfactory and the genuine active site is still under debate. We demonstrate that the CO2RR to CO preferentially takes place on pyridinic N rather than pyrrolic N using phthalocyanine (Pc) and porphyrin with well‐defined N‐Cmat configurations as molecular model catalysts. Systematic experiments and theoretic calculations further reveal that the CO2RR performance on pyridinic N can be significantly boosted by electronic modulation from in‐situ‐generated metallic Co nanoparticles. By introducing Co nanoparticles, Co@Pc/C can achieve a Faradaic efficiency of 84 % and CO current density of 28 mA cm?2 at ?0.9 V, which are 18 and 47 times higher than Pc/C without Co, respectively. These findings provide new insights into the CO2RR on N‐Cmat, which may guide the exploration of cost‐effective electrocatalysts for efficient CO2 reduction.  相似文献

To decrease the global carbon footprint concerns and to diminish the energy crisis, electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 which results in the formulation of value-added chemicals is a potential solution. In this review, single-atom catalysts (SACs) which are rapidly growing and being developed as the stimulating catalytic materials for electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 with improved selectivity, efficiency, and stability are considered. Various factors which are responsible for the efficient CO2 reduction are discussed. The pyrolytic approach for the preparation of Ni-based SACs and the maximum atom utilization efficiency for the desirable production of CO from CO2 are highlighted.  相似文献

Carbon dioxide electrochemical reduction (CO2RR) has been recognized as an efficient way to mitigate CO2 emissions and alleviate the pressure on global warming and associated environmental consequences. Gold (Au) is reported as stable and active electrocatalysts to convert CO2 to CO at low overpotential due to its moderate adsorption strength of *COOH and *CO. The request for improved catalytic performance, however, is motivated by current unsatisfied catalytic selectivity because of the side hydrogen evolution reaction. In this context, the design of Au based binary catalysts that can boost CO selectivity is of great interest. In the present work, we report that Au nanoparticles can be feasibly dispersed and anchored on silicon nanowires to form Au-Si binary nanomaterials. The Au-Si may stably drive CO2RR with a CO Faraday efficiency of 95.6% at ?0.6 V vs. RHE in 0.5 mol/L KHCO3 solution. Such selectivity outperforms Au particles by up to 61%. Controlled experiments illustrate that such catalytic enhancement can chiefly be ascribed to electronic effects of binary catalysts. Theoretical calculations reveal that spontaneously produced silicon oxide may not only inhibit hydrogen evolution reaction, but also stabilize the key intermediate *COOH in CO formation.  相似文献

The electrochemical reductive valorization of CO2, referred to as the CO2RR, is an emerging approach for the conversion of CO2-containing feeds into valuable carbonaceous fuels and chemicals, with potential contributions to carbon capture and use (CCU) for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Copper surfaces and graphene-embedded, N-coordinated single metal atom (MNC) catalysts exhibit distinctive reactivity, attracting attention as efficient electrocatalysts for CO2RR. This review offers a comparative analysis of CO2RR on copper surfaces and MNC catalysts, highlighting their unique characteristics in terms of CO2 activation, C1/C2(+) product formation, and the competing hydrogen evolution pathway. The assessment underscores the significance of understanding structure–activity relationships to optimize catalyst design for efficient and selective CO2RR. Examining detailed reaction mechanisms and structure-selectivity patterns, the analysis explores recent insights into changes in the chemical catalyst states, atomic motif rearrangements, and fractal agglomeration, providing essential kinetic information from advanced in/ex situ microscopy/spectroscopy techniques. At the end, this review addresses future challenges and solutions related to today's disconnect between our current molecular understanding of structure–activity-selectivity relations in CO2RR and the relevant factors controlling the performance of CO2 electrolyzers over longer times, with larger electrode sizes, and at higher current densities.  相似文献

We report a new strategy to prepare a composite catalyst for highly efficient electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). The composite catalyst is made by anchoring Au nanoparticles on Cu nanowires via 4,4′‐bipyridine (bipy). The Au‐bipy‐Cu composite catalyzes the CO2RR in 0.1 m KHCO3 with a total Faradaic efficiency (FE) reaching 90.6 % at ?0.9 V to provide C‐products, among which CH3CHO (25 % FE) dominates the liquid product (HCOO?, CH3CHO, and CH3COO?) distribution (75 %). The enhanced CO2RR catalysis demonstrated by Au‐bipy‐Cu originates from its synergistic Au (CO2 to CO) and Cu (CO to C‐products) catalysis which is further promoted by bipy. The Au‐bipy‐Cu composite represents a new catalyst system for effective CO2RR conversion to C‐products.  相似文献

We report a straightforward strategy to design efficient N doped porous carbon (NPC) electrocatalyst that has a high concentration of easily accessible active sites for the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). The NPC with large amounts of active N (pyridinic and graphitic N) and highly porous structure is prepared by using an oxygen-rich metal–organic framework (Zn-MOF-74) precursor. The amount of active N species can be tuned by optimizing the calcination temperature and time. Owing to the large pore sizes, the active sites are well exposed to electrolyte for CO2RR. The NPC exhibits superior CO2RR activity with a small onset potential of −0.35 V and a high faradaic efficiency (FE) of 98.4 % towards CO at −0.55 V vs. RHE, one of the highest values among NPC-based CO2RR electrocatalysts. This work advances an effective and facile way towards highly active and cost-effective alternatives to noble-metal CO2RR electrocatalysts for practical applications.  相似文献

With the increasing emission of carbon dioxide (CO2), the conversion and utilization of CO2 have become a topic of increasing concern. Electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is an attractive and sustainable approach for solving energy and environmental problems. Design of efficient catalysts is crucial for achieving highly efficient CO2RR. Different methods to prepare catalysts have been reported and used. Among them, electrodeposition is one of the common approaches, which has some obvious advantages, such as requiring simple equipment, environmentally benign. Especially, it can direct deposit catalysts on different substrates to prepare electrodes for CO2RR. In this review, we discuss recent advances in design and preparation of the catalysts by electrodeposition and their applications in CO2RR. Furthermore, the perspective of this promising area is also discussed.  相似文献

Closing the anthropogenic carbon cycle by converting CO2 into reusable chemicals is an attractive solution to mitigate rising concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere. Herein, we prepared Ni metal catalysts ranging in size from single atoms to over 100 nm and distributed them across N-doped carbon substrates which were obtained from converted zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF). The results show variance in CO2 reduction performance with variance in Ni metal size. Ni single atoms demonstrate a superior Faradaic efficiency (FE) for CO selectivity (ca. 97 % at −0.8 V vs. RHE), while results for 4.1 nm Ni nanoparticles are slightly lower (ca. 93 %). Further increase the Ni particle size to 37.2 nm allows the H2 evolution reaction (HER) to compete with the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). The FE towards CO production decreases to under 30 % and HER efficiency increase to over 70 %. These results show a size-dependent CO2 reduction for various sizes of Ni metal catalysts.  相似文献

The electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) to C2 chemicals has received great attention. Here, we report the cuprous oxide (Cu2O) nanocubes cooperated with silver (Ag) nanoparticles via the replacement reaction for a synergetic CO2RR. The Cu2O-Ag tandem catalyst exhibits an impressive Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 72.85% for C2 products with a partial current density of 243.32 mA·cm−2. The electrochemical experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the introduction of Ag improves the intermediate CO concentration on the catalyst surface and meanwhile reduces the C-C coupling reaction barrier energy, which is favorable for the synthesis of C2 products.  相似文献

The electrocatalytic carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction reaction (CO2RR) involves a variety of electron transfer pathways, resulting in poor reaction selectivity, limiting its use to meet future energy requirements. Polyoxometalates (POMs) can both store and release multiple electrons in the electrochemical process, and this is expected to be an ideal “electron switch” to match with catalytically active species, realize electron transfer modulation and promote the activity and selectivity of the electrocatalytic CO2RR. Herein, we report a series of new POM-based manganese-carbonyl (MnL) composite CO2 reduction electrocatalysts, whereby SiW12–MnL exhibits the most remarkable activity and selectivity for CO2RR to CO, resulting in an increase in the faradaic efficiency (FE) from 65% (MnL) to a record-value of 95% in aqueous electrolyte. A series of control electrochemical experiments, photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), transient photovoltage (TPV) experiments, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that POMs act as electronic regulators to control the electron transfer process from POM to MnL units during the electrochemical reaction, enhancing the selectivity of the CO2RR to CO and depressing the competitive hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This work demonstrates the significance of electron transfer modulation in the CO2RR and suggests a new idea for the design of efficient electrocatalysts towards CO2RR.

CO2 is the main component of greenhouse gases and also an important carbon source. The hydrogenation of CO2 to methane using Ni-based catalysts can not only alleviate CO2 emissions but also obtain useful fuels. However, Ni-based catalysts face one major problem of the sintering of Ni nanoparticles in the process of CO2 methanation. Thus, this work has synthesized a series of efficient and robust nickel silicate catalysts (NiPS−X) with different nickel content derived from nickel phyllosilicate by the hydrothermal method. It was found that the Ni loading plays a critical role in the structure and catalytic performance of the NiPS−X catalysts. The catalytic performance gradually increases with the increase of Ni loading. In particular, the highly dispersed NiPS-1.6 catalyst with a high Ni loading of 34.3 wt% could obtain the CO2 conversion greater than 80%, and the methane selectivity was close to 100% for 48 h at 330 °C and the GHSV of 40,000 mL g−1 h−1. The excellent catalytic property can be assigned to the high dispersion of Ni nanoparticles and the strong interaction between the active component and the carrier, which is derived from a unique layered silicate structure with lots of nickel phyllosilicate and a large number of Lewis acid sites.  相似文献

Ni-based catalysts have been widely studied in the hydrogenation of CO2 to CH4, but selective and efficient synthesis of higher alcohols (C2+OH) from CO2 hydrogenation over Ni-based catalyst is still challenging due to successive hydrogenation of C1 intermediates leading to methanation. Herein, we report an unprecedented synthesis of C2+OH from CO2 hydrogenation over K-modified Ni−Zn bimetal catalyst with promising activity and selectivity. Systematic experiments (including XRD, in situ spectroscopic characterization) and computational studies reveal the in situ generation of an active K-modified Ni−Zn carbide (K-Ni3Zn1C0.7) by carburization of Zn-incorporated Ni0, which can significantly enhance CO2 adsorption and the surface coverage of alkyl intermediates, and boost the C−C coupling to C2+OH rather than conventional CH4. This work opens a new catalytic avenue toward CO2 hydrogenation to C2+OH, and also provides an insightful example for the rational design of selective and efficient Ni-based catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation to multiple carbon products.  相似文献

The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to yield synthesis gas (syngas, CO and H2) has been considered as a promising method to realize the net reduction in CO2 emission. However, it is challenging to balance the CO2RR activity and the CO/H2 ratio. To address this issue, nitrogen‐doped carbon supported single‐atom catalysts are designed as electrocatalysts to produce syngas from CO2RR. While Co and Ni single‐atom catalysts are selective in producing H2 and CO, respectively, electrocatalysts containing both Co and Ni show a high syngas evolution (total current >74 mA cm?2) with CO/H2 ratios (0.23–2.26) that are suitable for typical downstream thermochemical reactions. Density functional theory calculations provide insights into the key intermediates on Co and Ni single‐atom configurations for the H2 and CO evolution. The results present a useful case on how non‐precious transition metal species can maintain high CO2RR activity with tunable CO/H2 ratios.  相似文献

The electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) to produce synthesis gas (syngas) with tunable CO/H2 ratios has been studied by supporting Pd catalysts on transition metal nitride (TMN) substrates. Combining experimental measurements and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, Pd‐modified niobium nitride (Pd/NbN) is found to generate much higher CO and H2 partial current densities and greater CO Faradaic efficiency than Pd‐modified vanadium nitride (Pd/VN) and commercial Pd/C catalysts. In‐situ X‐ray diffraction identifies the formation of PdH in Pd/NbN and Pd/C under CO2RR conditions, whereas the Pd in Pd/VN is not fully transformed into the active PdH phase. DFT calculations show that the stabilized *HOCO and weakened *CO intermediates on PdH/NbN are critical to achieving higher CO2RR activity. This work suggests that NbN is a promising substrate to modify Pd, resulting in an enhanced electrochemical conversion of CO2 to syngas with a potential reduction in precious metal loading.  相似文献
