Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a useful tool of efficiency measurement for firms and organizations. Kao and Hwang (2008) take into account the series relationship of the two sub-processes in a two-stage production process, and the overall efficiency of the whole process is the product of the efficiencies of the two sub-processes. To find the largest efficiency of one sub-process while maintaining the maximum overall efficiency of the whole process, Kao and Hwang (2008) propose a solution procedure to accomplish this purpose. Nevertheless, one needs to know the overall efficiency of the whole process before calculating the sub-process efficiency. In this note, we propose a method that is able to find the sub-process and overall efficiencies simultaneously.  相似文献

In this paper, we generalize Green and Laffont’s (1979) impossibility theorem to the following form: in quasi-linear environments, when the set of each agent’s types is sufficiently rich, we cannot find mechanisms that allow bounded deviations from the decisive efficiency, incentive compatibility and budget-balance at the same time. Hence, it is impossible to find an incentive compatible mechanism with minimum social welfare losses. Furthermore, we discuss the compatibility problems between incentive and individual rights in a quasi-linear environment (see Sen, 1970a,b; Deb et al., 1997). We consider local polynomial fitting for estimating a regression function and its derivatives nonparametrically. This method possesses many nice features, among which automatic adaptation to the boundary and adaptation to various designs. A first contribution of this paper is the derivation of an optimal kernel for local polynomial regression, revealing that there is a universal optimal weighting scheme. Fan (1993, Ann. Statist., 21, 196-216) showed that the univariate local linear regression estimator is the best linear smoother, meaning that it attains the asymptotic linear minimax risk. Moreover, this smoother has high minimax risk. We show that this property also holds for the multivariate local linear regression estimator. In the univariate case we investigate minimax efficiency of local polynomial regression estimators, and find that the asymptotic minimax efficiency for commonly-used orders of fit is 100% among the class of all linear smoothers. Further, we quantify the loss in efficiency when going beyond this class.  相似文献

This study measures technical efficiency and economies of scale for real estate investment trusts (REITs) by employing data envelopment analysis (DEA), a linear-programming technique. Using data from the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREITs) for the years 1992–1996, we find that REITs are technically inefficient, and the inefficiencies are a result of both poor input utilization and failure to operate at constant returns to scale. With respect to scale inefficiency, most REITs are operating at increasing returns to scale, suggesting that REITs could improve performance through expansion. Moreover, we employ regression analysis to determine what characteristics influence the efficiency measures obtained. The results show that internal REIT management is positively related to all measures of efficiency. Increasing leverage is negatively related to REIT input utilization. Finally, increasing REIT diversification across property types enhances scale efficiency (SE) but reduces input usage efficiency.  相似文献

So it is very necessary to find a solution based on tradeoff between network throughput and energy efficiency, which have not yet been well studied in existing works. The fast solutions of Crank-Nicolson scheme on quasi-uniform mesh for parabolic prob- lems are discussed. First, to decrease regularity requirements of solutions, some new error estimates are proved. Second, we analyze the two characteristics of parabolic discrete scheme, and find that the efficiency of Multigrid Method (MG) is greatly reduced. Nu- merical experiments compare the efficiency of Direct Conjugate Gradient Method (DCG) and Extrapolation Cascadic Multigrid Method (EXCMG). Last, we propose a Time- Extrapolation Algorithm (TEA), which takes a linear combination of previous several level solutions as good initial values to accelerate the rate of convergence. Some typical extrapolation formulas are compared numerically. And we find that under certain accuracy requirement, the CG iteration count for the 3-order and 7-level extrapolation formula is about 1/3 of that of DCG's. Since the TEA algorithm is independent of the space dimension, it is still valid for quasi-uniform meshes. As only the finest grid is needed, the proposed method is regarded very effective for nonlinear parabolic problems.  相似文献

This paper evaluates the efficiency of National Basketball Association (NBA) teams under a two-stage DEA framework. Applying the additive efficiency approach, we decompose overall team efficiency into first-stage wage efficiency and second-stage on-court efficiency and find out the individual endogenous weights for each stage. The empirical results show that NBA teams present a better performance on wage efficiency than for on-court efficiency, as on-court efficiency is influenced by many uncontrollable factors. Moreover, NBA teams, on average, tend to possess a higher weight on the first stage, suggesting that teams’ managers can enhance organizational efficiency more efficaciously by prudentially recruiting players.  相似文献

The solution concept in multi-objective programming is represented by a program which reaches “the best compromise”. Many solving methods find a good compromise feasible solution and then check whether the solution is efficient or not. In this paper, using the efficiency test introduced by Lotfi et al. (2010) [12], we propose two procedures for deriving weakly and strongly efficient solutions in multi-objective linear fractional programming problems (MOLFPP) starting from any feasible solution, and present their possible applications in multiple criteria decision-making process. Then, we discuss a shortcoming of some fuzzy approaches to solving MOLFPP and modify them in order to guarantee the efficiency of the optimal solution.  相似文献

We analyze the efficiency of non-life insurance companies in four of the fastest-growing markets in the world—the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) countries. An innovative feature of this paper is its incorporation of uncontrollable variables in the efficiency analysis using multi-stage data envelopment analysis (DEA). This approach captures cross-country differences, such as the political and economic environment, and allows distinguishing between managerial inefficiency and inefficiency due to environmental conditions. We find that the environment affects the efficiency of non-life insurers operating in the BRIC countries. Furthermore, in a regression of firm characteristics on efficiency scores we identify four drives of efficiency: Size, profitability, solvency, and ownership form. The results further our understanding of the insurance industry in the BRIC countries in regard to its efficiency and the environment in which it operates.  相似文献

Given a partial symmetric matrix A with only certain elements specified, the Euclidean distance matrix completion problem (EDMCP) is to find the unspecified elements of A that make A a Euclidean distance matrix (EDM). In this paper, we follow the successful approach in [20] and solve the EDMCP by generalizing the completion problem to allow for approximate completions. In particular, we introduce a primal-dual interior-point algorithm that solves an equivalent (quadratic objective function) semidefinite programming problem (SDP). Numerical results are included which illustrate the efficiency and robustness of our approach. Our randomly generated problems consistently resulted in low dimensional solutions when no completion existed.  相似文献

In this paper, we have introduced a Solid Transportation Problem where the constrains are mixed type. The model is developed under different environment like, crisp, fuzzy and intuitionistic fuzzy etc. Using the interval approximation method we defuzzify the fuzzy amount and for intuitionistic fuzzy set we use the ($\alpha,\beta$)-cut sets to get the corresponding crisp amount. To find the optimal transportation units a time and space based with order of convergence $O (MN^2)$ meta-heuristic Genetic Algorithm have been proposed. Also the equivalent crisp model so obtained are solved by using LINGO 13.0. The results obtained using GA treats as the best solution by comparing with LINGO results for this present study. The proposed models and techniques are finally illustrated by providing numerical examples. Degree of efficiency have been find out for both the algorithm.  相似文献

This paper tests the robustness of voluntary cooperation in a sequential best shot game, a public good game in which the maximal contribution determines the level of public good provision. Thus, efficiency enhancing voluntary cooperation requires asymmetric behavior whose coordination is more difficult. Nevertheless, we find robust cooperation irrespective of treatment-specific institutional obstacles. To explain this finding, we distinguish three behavioral patterns aiming at both, voluntary cooperation and (immediate) payoff equality.  相似文献

The multi-objective resource allocation problem (MORAP) addresses the important issue which seeks to find the expected objectives by allocating the limited amount of resource to various activates. Resources may be manpower, assets, raw material or anything else in limited supply which can be used to accomplish the goals. The goals may be objectives (i.e., minimizing costs, or maximizing efficiency) usually driven by specific future needs. In this paper, in order to obtain a set of Pareto solution efficiently, we proposed a modified version of ant colony optimization (ACO), in this algorithm we try to increase the efficiency of algorithm by increasing the learning of ants. Effectiveness and efficiency of proposed algorithm was validated by comparing the result of ACO with hybrid genetic algorithm (hGA) which was applied to MORAP later.  相似文献

利用DEA方法进行相对效率评估时,决策单元通常需要考虑多重目标,且随着目标的变化,决策单元间竞争合作状态也会发生动态变化。传统竞合模型虽然考虑了决策单元间竞争与合作同时存在的现象,但忽视了竞争合作关系动态变化的过程。本文以竞争合作对策为切入点,将多目标规划中的优先因子引入传统DEA博弈交叉效率模型中,提出了带有优先等级的多目标DEA博弈交叉效率模型,即动态竞合博弈交叉效率模型。该模型充分体现了不同目标下决策单元间竞争合作关系的动态变化,其焦点由传统竞合模型对多重最优权重现象的改善,转向对最优效率得分的直接寻找。利用DEA动态竞合博弈交叉效率模型,本文对环境污染约束下2014年长三角地区制造业投入产出绩效进行了客观的评估。分析结果表明:DEA动态竞合博弈交叉效率模型收敛速度优于传统DEA博弈交叉效率模型,其交叉效率得分收敛于唯一的纳什均衡点;不同目标重要性的差异程度,对最终排名结果不产生明显影响,不需要确切指出。  相似文献

ABSTRACT. The economic performance of fisheries is difficult to measure, due to the importance of (multi‐species) biological dynamics, property rights and regulatory issues affecting fishermen's behavior and efficiency. However, an understanding of performance patterns is essential for enhancing the economic and biological viability of fisheries. In this paper we estimate and evaluate alternative primal stochastic approaches to modeling and measuring technical efficiency for the Northern Spain hake fishery. We then compare the resulting efficiency measures to identify variations in their potential interpretation, and application to policy guidance. We find that multi‐output models are more theoretically and empirically justifiable than aggregate output production function models, and provide additional policy‐relevant insights, but that relative production and efficiency estimates are not sub‐stantively affected by model specification.  相似文献

This work addresses the computation of free-energy differences between protein conformations by using morphing (i.e., transformation) of a source conformation into a target conformation. To enhance the morphing procedure, we employ permutations of atoms: we seek to find the permutation σ that minimizes the mean-square distance traveled by the atoms. Instead of performing this combinatorial search in the space of permutations, we show that the best permutation can be found by solving a linear assignment problem. We demonstrate that the use of such optimal permutations significantly improves the efficiency of the free-energy computation.  相似文献

We simulate the self-propulsion of devices in a fluid in the regime of low Reynolds numbers. Each device consists of three bodies (spheres or capsules) connected with two damped harmonic springs. Sinusoidal driving forces compress the springs which are resolved within a rigid body physics engine. The latter is consistently coupled to a 3D lattice Boltzmann framework for the fluid dynamics. In simulations of three-sphere devices, we find that the propulsion velocity agrees well with theoretical predictions. In simulations where some or all spheres are replaced by capsules, we find that the asymmetry of the design strongly affects the propelling efficiency.  相似文献

本文采用1996-2006年全国30个省实际GDP、人力资本和物质资本的面板数据,在随机误差项自相关和异方差的假定下,运用随机前沿分析模型对我国省际技术效率进行测算;同时分东部、中部和西部进行分析,并进行了严格的假设检验。结果表明:我国中部地区的技术效率最高,东部次之,西部最低;且三大地区技术效率均逐年提高,三者之间的技术效率差异呈现收敛趋势。  相似文献
