The use of a Pump-Suppressed Four Wave Mixing PS-FWM wavelength converter in a wavelength conversion and selection switching scheme is examined and demonstrated. The scheme requires a single 2 × 1 Mach Zenhder Interferometer (MZI) and offers substantial pump suppression and efficiency improvement in terms of optical signal-to-noise ratio. Performance measurements on the combination of PS-FWM wavelength converter with an Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG) for passive routing, shows the potentially successful use of the scheme in an ultra-fast wavelength routed optical packet switching scheme where the use of optical filters for the separation of the converted signal from the pump is avoided.  相似文献

利用传统成熟的偏振控制技术,设计了一种由偏振光分束器、相位型空间光调制器、反射镜和四分之一波片构成的3×3光开关。该光开关具有结构紧凑规整、功能的实现与信号光的偏振态无关以及可以完成双向交换等特点。根据其路由控制表对该3×3光开关交换模块功能的实现进行了分析,结果表明,通过对各相位型空间光调制器状态的调整,控制通过其信号光的偏振态,完成信号光的路由,该交换模块可以完成输入信号光的全排列无阻塞输出与交换。同时,该交换模块具有一定的扩容和重构能力,对于构建大规模的交换矩阵具有一定的作用。  相似文献

We propose a method for all-fiber ultra-fast switching using stimulated Raman scattering. It is based on the transference of energy from the signal as pump to the control signal as first Stokes by stimulated Raman scattering. In the absence of a control signal, the transference of energy from the pump signal to the generated first Stokes is negligible, which results in high output power at the pump signal wavelength. To minimize the walk-off problem between two wavelengths, we chose pump signal and control signal to be equally spaced on opposite sides of the zero dispersion wavelength of the fiber. Based on this assumption, the all-fiber ultra-fast optical switch with low power consumption and high output extinction ratio can be realized.  相似文献

运用时间分辨抽运-探测光谱技术,研究了磁光晶体铽镓石榴石(TGG)在不同椭圆偏振态的飞秒激光脉冲诱导下的极化和磁化响应.研究表明,当仅存在逆法拉第效应时,探测光旋转角信号和椭圆率信号的变化方向与圆偏振抽运光的旋向相关.这是由于圆偏振光在TGG晶体中产生的瞬态有效磁场的方向依赖于圆偏振光的旋向所致.光诱导磁化过程与材料的性质有关,TGG晶体的顺磁特性决定了其自旋弛豫时间为几十飞秒.由于探测光旋转角信号和椭圆率信号的半高全宽均为500 fs左右,加之信号强度随着抽运光脉冲能量密度的增加呈线性增长,表明TGG晶 关键词: 铽镓石榴石晶体 抽运-探测光谱技术 逆法拉第效应  相似文献

光开关是全光通信网络中的一种重要的光无源器件。提出了一种4×4自由空间光开关的结构设计方法,并进行了矩阵理论分析。该4×4光开关具有新颖的光模块化结构,该光开关结构仅由偏振分束组合棱镜,λ/4波片,λ/2波片,直角棱镜,全反镜和偏振光调制器组成,对光开关的控制与输入光束的偏振态无关。所有的输出端口可以和输入端口无阻塞地互连交换。这种新型的光开关结构具有光学元件少,结构紧凑,模块化,与偏振无关的特点。基于4×4光开关的矩阵分析得到了路由控制表,为4×4光开关从任意输人端口到任意输出端口的路由控制状态提供了理论分析手段,从而可以方便地实现无阻塞地光交换开关矩阵的路由控制功能。  相似文献

We demonstrate a scheme for efficient switching and routing of low-power signals in waveguide arrays with second-order nonlinearity. With control beams the signal can be switched to different output positions and can be simultaneously converted to another wavelength with low cross talk.  相似文献

Ultrafast multi-wavelength routing by an active birefringent fiber loop filter/interleaver is proposed and demonstrated. In the proposed active filter, the loop part consists of a birefringent optical fiber and a traveling-wave-type phase modulator. Numerical simulation using Jones matrix analysis shows that the periodic transmission/reflection bands of the filter can be switched by changing a phase difference between clockwise and counter clockwise components passing through the birefringent fiber loop. Experimentally, we realize fast switching by controlling the applied voltage to the phase modulator, and 8-GHz wavelength routing operation is achieved.  相似文献

One kind of Bragg-spaced all-optical switching has been proposed in this paper, and the quantum dots ensembles are used in it as active layers. By one-dimensional photonic crystal theory and transmission matrix method, we have studied the reflectivity stop band and switching effect based on the ac Stark effect. The reflectivity stop band of this switch can be suppressed or recovered, and the circular dichroism and birefringence are induced by a circle-polarized control light, which result in a significant polarization switching effect. This switching structure shows great advantages of lower requirement of pump light intensity, larger contrast ratio than that of Bragg-spaced quantum wells with the same period, especially this switching can be used at room temperature theoretically. So we predict that there are prodigious prospects for its using in high speed optical communications as all-optical switching.  相似文献

Optical data comparator is the part and parcel of arithmetic and logical unit of any optical data processor and it is working as a building block in a larger optical circuit, as an optical switch in all optical header processing and optical packet switching based all optical telecommunications system. In this article the author proposes a method of developing an all optical single bit comparator unit and subsequently extending the proposal to develop a n-bit comparator exploiting the nonlinear rotation of the state of polarization of the probe beam in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). Here the dataset to be compared are taken in frequency encoded/decoded form throughout the communication. The major advantages of frequency encoding over all other conventional techniques are that as the frequency of any signal is fundamental one so it can preserve its identity throughout the communication of optical signal and minimizes the probability of bit error problem. For frequency routing purpose optical add/drop multiplexer (ADM) is used which not only route the pump beams properly but also to amplify the pump beams efficiently. Switching speed of ‘MZI-SOA switch’ as well as SOA based switches are very fast with good on–off contrast ratio and as a result it is possible to obtain very fast action of optical data comparator.  相似文献

A method for improving the quality of all-optical switching is presented. Pumping poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) films doped with azobenzene chromophore Disperse Red 1 (DR1) with two beams (a linearly and a circularly polarized), all-optical switching effects with very low background and high stability are demonstrated. High frequency switching, which is hard to be realized under pump of a single beam, is obtained. The circularly polarized pump beam can erase the photoinduced birefringence and quicken the relaxation process, thus lowering the background and improving the stability and the extinction ratio of the switching signal. 基于电磁感应透明技术, 通过求解原子的密度矩阵方程和电磁场的传输矩阵方程, 研究了被行波场和驻波场共同耦合的一个四能级冷原子介质的稳态光学特性, 发现在特定参数下能够产生一个几乎完美的双光子带隙结构, 在这两个光子带隙对应的频率区域内反射率都均匀地超过95%. 通过改变耦合场的强度和频率, 可以方便地调节这两个光子带隙的位置和宽度. 这一双光子带隙结构可用来实现全光路由和全光开关, 有望在全光信息网络中获得应用.  相似文献

We have investigated theoretically the optical bistability (OB) and optical multistability in quantum-well (QW) semiconductor heterostructures. The effect of a cw pump laser field and a control infrared pulse signal on OB is discussed. It is found that the OB threshold can be controlled by varying the strength of applied fields. It is also shown that OB can be switched to optical multistability or vice versa just using an appropriate relative phase of applied fields. This investigation may open up some new possibilities for applications in all-optical switching in quantum-well structures.  相似文献

提出了一种利用非线性光纤环镜的开关特性将连续波同时转化为亮孤子和暗孤子的新方法 ,即让连续波和另一波长的调制脉冲串共同耦合入光纤环镜 ,交叉相位调制使得一部分连续波被环镜透射 ,其余部分被反射 ;再让透射波和反射波分别在反常色散光纤和正常色散光纤中传输 ,自相位调制和群速度色散之间的相互作用使得透射波和反射波分别演化为亮、暗孤子。数值计算表明 ,该方法不仅可产生脉宽比调制脉冲窄、重复频率比调制脉冲高的亮孤子和暗孤子 ,而且几乎可将全部的连续波能量转化为孤子能量。  相似文献

We describe a method based on multistability in wavelength for obtaining high-density wavelength switching for application to signal routing. The method relies on the use of a 1550-nm wavelength-tunable multielectrode laser diode that is fed back electrically. The system operates as a multistable device that exhibits multiple steady states in wavelength. 使用3-dB耦合器组成M-Z干涉仪,在M-Z干涉仪的一臂加入高非线性光纤(HNLF)组成的反向拉曼放大器,改变放大器的泵浦波长及强度,可实现波长可选择的全光开关。其功能可用于波分复用(WDM)系统,对不同波长的上、下载选择有很大的应用意义。理论分析了实现这一功能的可行性和参数选择,考虑拉曼放大并伴有交叉相位调制(XPM)引起信号光的相移,推导分析了在引入放大的同时又引入相移,怎样选择放大和相位匹配问题,来实现波长可选择的光开关的要求。  相似文献

A novel scheme for a solid-state single-photon router based on a single quantum dot (QD) coupled to a nanomechanical resonator (NR) is proposed and analyzed theoretically. It relies on the coherent coupling between the quantum dot and the NR. We demonstrate that when a single-photon signal is tuned on resonance with the exciton in the QD, one can use a strong pump field to choose to what output port of this signal field is delivered, which is based on the analogue of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) effect which we refer it as phonon induced transparency (PIT) in this coupled system. The path between the reflection output port and the transmission output port can be achieved by simply turning off and on the pump field. The numerical results also indicate that this router can operate efficiently in the optical regime and at ultralow pump power as well as short switching time (~ns). This nanoscale router presented here will offer potential applications in scalable solid-state quantum networks and quantum information.  相似文献

An ultrafast photonic asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switch is proposed that incorporates a holographic buffer memory and an optical parallel routing controller. Ultrafast serial-to-parallel conversion of the temporal profiles of optical cells into spatial patterns is used to process optical cells in space in a parallel manner. The spatial pattern of the data payload is holographically recorded as a page in the optical buffer memory. The routing control to establish the switching state consists of header recognition performed by optical matched filtering, followed by control signal generation via reference to a lookup table. The ultimate throughput of the switch is expected to be 103 Tb/s with line bit-rates of 17 Tb/s.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate the analog of electromagnetically induced absorption and parametric amplification in a hybrid opto-electromechanical system consisting of an optical cavity and a microwave cavity coupled to a common mechanical resonator. When the two cavity modes are driven by two pump fields, a weak probe beam is applied to the optical cavity to monitor the optical response of the hybrid system, which can be effectively controlled by adjusting the frequency and power of the two pump fields. We find that the analog of electromagnetically induced absorption and parametric amplification can appear in the probe transmission spectrum when one cavity is pumped on its red sideband and another is pumped on its blue sideband. These phenomena can find potential applications in optical switching and signal amplification in the quantum information process.  相似文献
