The adsorption of CO on Pt(111) between 85K and 300K has been studied by infrared-reflection-absorption spectroscopy together with TPD and LEED. The intensity of the absorption band due to the CO stretch of the linear species shows a maximum at the formation of the (√3 × √3)R30° LEED pattern followed by a minimum at the c(4×2) structure during the adsorption of CO at low temperatures (150K). The absorption band due to the C-O stretch of the bridging species appears only after the formation of the (√3 × √3)R30° pattern and reaches maximum intensity at the c(4×2) structure. Adsorption of CO to higher coverages (corresponding to the compression structures) broadens and shifts this absorption band. At higher temperatures (150K) a third peak is observed at 40cm−1 below the peak due to the bridging species and is attributed to adsorption in the three-fold sites. At 300K both peaks in this region are very broad. The intensity data differs from that measured with EELS (ref.1) and favors a “faultline” structure of the type proposed by Avery (ref.2). Together with the additional information from bandwidths it is possible to distinguish between the various structural models. The results obtained here may also be important in explaining data from other systems such as CO/Cu.  相似文献

Interfaces prepared by vapor deposition of Sn onto Pt(100) surfaces have been examined using the following techniques: Auger electron and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (AES and XPS), low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), and low-energy ion surface scattering (LEISS) with Ne+ ions. Tin deposition was conducted at 320 and 600 K, and the surface composition and order was examined as a function of further annealing to 1200 K. The AES uptake plots (signal versus deposition time) indicate that the Sn growth mode can be described by a layer-by-layer process only up to one adayer at 320 K. Some evidence of 3D growth is inferred from LEED and LEISS data for higher Sn coverages. For deposition at 600 K, AES data indicate significant interdiffusion and surface alloy formation. LEED observations (recorded at a substrate temperature of 320 K) show that the characteristic hexagonal Pt(100) reconstruction disappears with Sn exposures of 4.6 × 1014 atoms cm2Sn = 0.35 monolayer (ML)). Further Sn deposition results in a c(2 × 2) LEED pattern starting at a coverage of slightly above 0.5 ML. The c(2 × 2) LEED pattern becomes progressively more diffuse with increasing Sn exposure with eventual loss of all LEED features above 2.2 ML. Annealing experiments with various precoverages of Sn on Pt(100) are also described by AES, LEED, and LEISS results. For specific Sn precoverages and annealing conditions, c(2 × 2), p(3√2 × √2)R45°, and a combination of the two LEED patterns are observed. These ordered LEED patterns are suggested to arise from ordered PtSn surface alloys. In addition, the chemisorption of CO and O2 at the ordered annealed Sn/Pt(100) surfaces was also examined using thermal desorption mass spectroscopy (TDMS), AES, and LEED.  相似文献

The molecular adsorption of NO on both the reconstructed (hex) and unreconstructed (1 × 1) surfaces of Pt{100} has been studied using a combination of infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) and low energy electron diffraction (LEED) at temperatures between 90 and 300 K. On the (1 × 1) surface at 300 K adsorbed NO gives rise to an N-O stretching band at initially 1596 cm−1 shifting to 1641 cm−1 at a coverage of θ = 0.5. The LEED pattern at this coverage is interpreted in terms of a c(4 × 2) structure in which all the molecules occupy a single type of adsorption site between the on-top and bridge positions. At temperatures below 300 K, a higher coverage disordered phase is observed, giving rise to an N-O stretching band at 1680 cm−1 associated with an on-top NO species. On the (hex) phase surface above 210 K, NO adsorption gives rise to bands characteristic of adsorption on the (1 × 1) phase indicating that the reconstruction is immediately lifted. Below 200 K initial adsorption actually occurs directly on the (hex) phase, resulting in a band at 1680 cm−1, which is assigned to on-top NO. This band increases in intensity until, at a critical coverage dependent on temperature, the (hex) → (1 × 1) surface phase transition is induced. This is indicated by the disappearance of the band at 1680 cm−1 and its replacement by bands characteristic of adsorption on islands of the (1 × 1) structure.  相似文献

The Si(111)−(√3 × √3)R30°−Ag surface has been investigated using the technique of Li+ impact collision ion scattering spectroscopy. Typical LEED √3 domain sizes were estimated to be on the order of 150 Å for a 1 ML coverage of Ag, with the √3 structure persisting for coverages of Ag up to 35 ML. Silver islanding was found to influence the appearance of the 5 keV Li+ ICISS angular scans even for 1 ML coverages of Ag deposited at 480°C. A detailed structural analysis of the Si(111)−√3−Ag surface (0.25 ML deposition) involved the comparison of 5 keV Li+ ICISS experimental data along the [11 ], [ 10] and [2 1] azimuths with computer simulations of the scattered ion intensities based on previously proposed models for the √3 surface. Nine structurally different models were tested, and only the missing-top-layer (MTL) and the honeycomb-chained-trimer (HCT) models were found to be consistent with all the experimental results. An estimate of 0.4 Å for the maximum downward vertical displacement of the Ag atoms with resect to the surface Si atoms in the MTL model is made. The effects of increased thermal vibrational amplitude in the simulation of Si---Ag shadowing effects is also discussed. The interpretations of previous noble gas ICISS results are shown to be inconsistent with the present alkali metal ICISS study of the √3 surface.  相似文献

A LEED and AES study on oxygen adsorption on Cu(100) and (h11) faces with 5 h 15 has been performed under various adsorption conditions (220 K T 670 K and 1 × 10−8 P 6 × 10−5 Torr of oxygen). The dependence of adsorption temp on the oxygen surface superstructures is pointed out. At least, three oxygen surface states exist on a Cu(100) face. For low temperature exposures to oxygen, under conditions of slow surface diffusion, on the (100) face, two oxygen surface phases exist: a “four spots” and a c(2 × 2) superstructure, both observed even at saturation coverage; on all the stepped faces, a c(2 × 2) appears and no faceting is observed. For high temperature exposures, on the (100) face, two oxygen superstructures are observed, a “four spots” followed by a (2√2 × √2)R45° at higher coverages; on all the stepped faces, surface diffusion is activated and oxygen induced faceting occurs. The appearance of faceting is associated with the onset of the formation of the (2√2 × √2)R45° structure on the (100) face. The oxygen induced faceting and the oxygen surface meshes are reversible with coverages. At saturation coverage, a non-reversible surface transition between the c(2 × 2) and (2√2 × √2)R45° superstructures is observed at 420 ± 20 K. The importance of impurity traces on the surface meshes is emphasized. Oxygen coverage at saturation is independent of the studied faces and adsorption temperature. Faceting occurs at a critical coverage value, whatever the stepped faces and adsorption temperature are. Models of the oxygen structure on the (h10) stepped faces are discussed.  相似文献

The local adsorption geometries of K, Rb and Cs in the (√3 × √3)R30° and (2 × 2) phases on a Rh(111) surface at coverages of 0.33 and 0.25 ML, respectively, are determined by analyzing LEED intensity data. For all (√3 × √3)R30° phases investigated, the three-fold hcp site is found. For the (2 × 2) overlayer, K remains in the hcp position, while Cs favors the on-top position. For the case of Rb-(2 × 2), LEED analysis suggests occupation of the unusual two-fold bridge site. Since LEED analysis of the Rb-(2 × 2) phase is not completely conclusive, additional experimental evidence is necessary to firmly establish this adsorption geometry.  相似文献

Deposition of Sn on the Pt(111) surface followed by annealing at 1000 K leads to the formation of ordered phases showing (2 × 2 and ( LEED patterns, depending on the surface coverage of Sn. Both these phases were studied by LEED dynamical analysis. The best agreement between experimental and calculated I–V curves was obtained by means of models based on the formation of mixed Pt-Sn layers on the surface where Pt and Sn atoms are nearly coplanar with a slight upward buckling of Sn atoms. The structures of these phases are similar to those already observed for the Pt3Sn(111) surface.  相似文献

The local surface structures of S/Ni(111) in the ( √3 × √3) R30° and (5√3 × 2) phases have been investigated by means of polarization-dependent sulfur K-edge surface EXAFS. In the (√3 × √3 ) R30° phase, sulfur adatoms are found to occupy threefold hollow sites with a S---Ni distance of 2.13 Å and an inclination angle ω of the Sz.sbnd;Ni bonds at 44° from the surface plane. In contrast, in the (5√3 × 2) phase, it is determined that the Sz.sbnd;Ni bond is longer, 2.18 Å, more inclined, ω = 31°, and that the coordination number is not 3 but 4. These results strongly support a picture involving reconstruction of the top nickel layer to form a rectangular structure. Consideration of several models proposed for the (5√3 × 2) phase leads to one which is compatible with both the present results and results recently reported using STM.  相似文献

We report surface vibrations in c(2 × 2) oxygen adlayers on Ni and Co thin films on a Cu(001) substrate measured at gG by high resolution EELS. For the Ni thin film surface, one phonon peak is measured for varying film thicknesses from 1.3 ML (monolayer) to 6 ML with a constant energy of 221 cm−1. For the Co thin film surface, three loss peaks are found, whose relative intensities change as the film thicknesses are varied. One loss peak at ˜520 cm−1 is tentatively assigned to the Fuchs-Kliewer mode of cobalt oxide (CoO). The other two peaks at 317 and 376 cm−1 are likely related to different bonding sites. Surface phonons on the p(2 × 2) Co thin film (389 cm−1) and a bulk resonance mode (115 cm−1) are also reported.  相似文献

Silicon nanocrystals have been synthesized in SiO2 matrix using Si ion implantation. Si ions were implanted into 300-nm-thick SiO2 films grown on crystalline Si at energies of 30–55 keV, and with doses of 5×1015, 3×1016, and 1×1017 cm−2. Implanted samples were subsequently annealed in an N2 ambient at 500–1100°C during various periods. Photoluminescence spectra for the sample implanted with 1×1017 cm−2 at 55 keV show that red luminescence (750 nm) related to Si-nanocrystals clearly increases with annealing temperature and time in intensity, and that weak orange luminescence (600 nm) is observed after annealing at low temperatures of 500°C and 800°C. The luminescence around 600 nm becomes very intense when a thin SiO2 sample is implanted at a substrate temperature of 400°C with an energy of 30 keV and a low dose of 5×1015 cm−2. It vanishes after annealing at 800°C for 30 min. We conclude that this luminescence observed around 600 nm is caused by some radiative defects formed in Si-implanted SiO2.  相似文献

The dissociative chemisorption of molecular bromine on Cu(111) at 300 K has been studied using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and work function change measurements. A (√3 × √3)R30° structure is formed initially at a bromine coverage of 0.33 ML. This then converts to a (9√3 × 9√3)R30° compression structure with a coverage of 0.41 ML. The coincidence distance of the compression structure is determined entirely by the van der Waals diameter of adsorbed bromine. The applicability of using the van der Waals diameters of the three halogens, Cl, Br and I, to predict the saturation compression structures on Cu(111), is discussed.  相似文献

Novel hyperbranched polymer, poly[bis(diethylene glycol)benzoate] capped with a 3,5-bis[(3′,6′,9′-trioxodecyl)oxy]benzoyl group (poly-Bz1a), was prepared, and its polymer electrolyte with LiN(CF3SO2)2, poly-Bz1a/LiN(CF3SO2)2 electrolyte, was all evaluated in thermal properties, ionic conductivity, and electrochemical stability window. The poly-Bz1a/LiN(CF3SO2)2 electrolyte exhibited higher ionic conductivity compared with a polymer electrolyte based on poly[bis(diethylene glycol)benzoate] capped with an acetyl group (poly-Ac1a), and the ionic conductivity of poly-Bz1a/LiN(CF3SO2)2 electrolyte was to be 7×10−4 S cm−1 at 80 °C and 1×10−6 S cm−1 at 30 °C, respectively. The existence of a 3,5-bis[(3′,6′,9′-trioxodecyl)oxy]benzoyl group as a branching unit present at ends in the base polymer improved significantly ionic conductivity of the hyperbranched polymer electrolytes. The polymer electrolyte exhibited the electrochemical stability window of 4.2 V at 70 °C and was stable until 300 °C.  相似文献

The effects of adsorbed H on the Mo1−xRex(110), x=0, 0.05, 0.15, and 0.25, surfaces have been investigated using low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS). For the x=0.15 alloy only, a c(2×2) LEED pattern is observed at a coverage Θ0.25 ML. A (2×2) pattern is observed for H coverages around Θ0.5 ML from surfaces with x=0, 0.05, and 0.15. Both c(2×2) and (2×2) patterns are attributed to reconstruction of the substrate. At higher coverages, a (1×1) pattern is observed. For the alloy surface with x=0.25, only a (1×1) pattern is obtained for all H coverages. Two H vibrations are observed in HREELS spectra for all Re concentrations, which shift to higher energies at intermediate coverages. Both peaks exhibit an isotopic shift, confirming their assignment to hydrogen. For Re concentrations of x=0.15 and higher, a third HREELS peak appears at 50 meV as H (D) coverage approaches saturation. This peak does not shift in energy with isotopic substitution, yet cannot be explained by contamination. The intrinsic width of the loss peaks depends on the Re concentration in the surface region and becomes broader with increasing x. This broadening can be attributed to surface inhomogeneity, but may also reflect increased delocalization of the adsorbed hydrogen atom.  相似文献

Electrochemical deposition of Rh ions on a (5 × 20) Pt(100) surface gave a (1 × 1) LEED pattern with high background intensity. By exposing the (1 × 1) Rh/Pt(100) surface to O2 or NO, a characteristic p(3 × 1) Rh---O overlayer is built up at about 400 K, which is the same structure observed on the Pt0.25Rh0.75(100) surface exposed to NO or O2. Once the p(3 × 1) Rh---O overlayer is formed, a reversible structural change, ,p(3 × 1) (1 × 1), can be caused at room temperature by adding H2 and O2. The p(3 × 1) Rh---O overlayer on the Pt(100) surface may represent a highly efficient catalyst for NOx reduction.  相似文献

Thin films of copper oxide with thickness ranging from 0.05–0.45 μm were deposited on microscope glass slides by successively dipping them for 20 s each in a solution of 1 M NaOH and then in a solution of copper complex. Temperature of the NaOH solution was varied from 50–90°C, while that of the copper solution was maintained at room temperature. X-ray diffraction patterns showed that the films, as prepared, are of cuprite structure with composition Cu2O. Annealing the films in air at 350°C converts these films to CuO. This conversion is accompanied by a shift in the optical band gap from 2.1 eV (direct) to 1.75 eV (direct). The films show p-type conductivity, 5×10−4 Ω−1 cm−1 for a film of thickness 0.15 μm. Electrical conductivity of this film increases by a factor of 3 when illuminated with 1 kW m−2 tungsten halogen radiation. Annealing in a nitrogen atmosphere at temperatures up to 400°C does not change the composition of the films. However, the conductivity in the dark as well as the photoconductivity of the film increases by an order of magnitude. The electrical conductivity of the CuO thin films produced by air annealing at 400°C, is high, 7×10−3 Ω−1 cm−1. These films are also photoconductive.  相似文献

The results of the impedance spectroscopy measurements on eutectic samples based on zirconium oxide are presented here. Samples of CaZrO3---ZrO2(cubic) and MgO---ZrO2(cubic) have been grown by a directional solidification procedure such that the different phases appear nearly oriented along the growth direction (lamellae in the system of CaZrO3-ZrO2(cubic) and fibers of MgO in a ZrO2 matrix in the other system). The DC electrical conductivity has been measured by impedance spectroscopy along and across the growth axis. For CaZrO3---ZrO2 the coductivity is clearly anisotropic. The following values for σT have been obtained: the conductivity at 600 °C equals 2.0 × 10−6 Ω−1 cm−1 perpendicular to the fiber axis and 1.4 × 10−5 Ω−1 cm−1 parallel to it and with an activation energy of 1.3 eV for σT. For MgO---ZrO2(cubic) the isotropic value of the conductivity at 600 °C is 10−4 Ω−1 cm−1 with activation energy for σT of 1.5 eV. The anisotropic conductivity in the CaZrO3---ZrO2 (cubic) system has been explained by a model of an ordered stacking of oxygen conducting (cubic ZrO2) and non-conducting (CaZrO3 or MgO) phases.  相似文献

The adsorption and reaction of methyl nitrite (CH3ONO, CD3ONO) on Pt(111) was studied using HREELS, UPS, TPD, AES, and LEED. Adsorption of methyl nitrite on Pt(111) at 105 K forms a chemisorbed monolayer with a coverage of 0.25 ML, a physisorbed second layer with the same coverage that desorbs at 134 K, and a condensed multilayer that desorbs at 117 K. The Pt(111) surface is very reactive towards chemisorbed methyl nitrite; adsorption in the monolayer is completely irreversible. CH3ONO dissociates to form NO and an intermediate which subsequently decomposes to yield CO and H2 at low coverages and methanol for CH3ONO coverages above one-half monolayer. We propose that a methoxy intermediate is formed. At least some C–O bond breaking occurs during decomposition to leave carbon on the surface after TPD. UPS and HREELS show that some methyl nitrite decomposition occurs below 110 K and all of the methyl nitrite in the monolayer is decomposed by 165 K. Intermediates from methyl nitrite decomposition are also relatively unstable on the Pt(111) surface since coadsorbed NO, CO and H are formed below 225 K.  相似文献

The adsorption of water of Ni(110) has been studied by nuclear reaction analysis (NRA), thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS), LEED and work function measurements (Δφ). The major findings of this study are: (1) the saturation coverage of the first chemisorbed layer of water is slightly less than 0.5 water molecules per surface Ni atom or 0.5 ML (1 ML = 1 MONOLAYER = 1.14 × 1015 molecules cm−2) and the layer exhibits a c(2 × 2) LEED pattern; (2) this water desorbs in three separate desorption states; (3) the slightly less strongly bound, second layer of water can be distinguished from subsequent “ice” layers by a discrete work function change. These results are discussed in terms of a recently published model of Benndorf and Madey [C. Benndorf and T.E. Madey, Surf. Sci. 194 (1988) 63].  相似文献

The coadsorption of CO and ammonia on Ru(001) has been investigated by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and high-resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy (HREELS). The main focus has been on the interaction between different admolecules on the surface and its important role in surface reaction. Exposing CO-precovered Ru(001) to ammonia at 100 K leads to the formation of mixed ordered layers with a (2 × 2) periodicity. It was found that two types of (2 × 2) structures are formed depending on the CO precoverage. One of the (2 × 2) structures (-phase) contains one CO and two ammonia molecules per (2 × 2) unit cell and the other (β-phase) contains two CO and one ammonia. Structure models for the two phases are proposed based on vibrational spectra measured for the coadsorbed phases of CO and ammonia (15NH3 or ND3). TPD results suggest that the ammonia dissociation takes place on clean and CO-precovered Ru(001). The amount of dissociated ammonia decreased initially with increasing CO precoverage, passed a minimum at θCO = 0.25, increased with a further increase of CO coverage, and eventually reached a saturation value above θCO = 0.5. The dissociation of ammonia in the β−(2 × 2) structure was found to be enhanced by a factor of 4–6 as compared with the dissociation in the −(2 × 2) structure. The HREEL spectra indicated that the C3v molecular axis of ammonia is tilted in the coadsorbed layers, the tilting being most pronounced in the β−(2 × 2) phase with a high CO partial coverage. This observation suggests that the tilting of ammonia due to the interaction with CO facilitates electron donation from Ru 4d to LUMO of ammonia, leading to the N-H bond dissociation. The microscopic model for the CO-NH3 interaction on metal surfaces is presented.  相似文献

The FTIR spectroscopy of carbon monoxide adsorbed on polycrystalline MgO smoke has been investigated as a function of the CO equilibrium pressure at constant temperature (60 K) (optical isotherm) and of the temperature (in the 300–60 K range) at constant CO pressure (optical isobar). In both cases the spectra fully reproduce those of CO adsorbed on the (0 0 1) surface of UHV cleaved single crystals [Heidberg et al., Surf. Sci. 331–333 (1995) 1467]. This result, never attained in previous investigations on dispersed MgO, contribute to bridging the gap which is commonly supposed to exist between surface science and the study of “real” (defective) systems. Depending on the surface coverage θ the main spectral features due to the CO/MgO smoke interaction are a single band shifting from 2157.5 (at θ→0) to 2150.2 cm−1 (at θ=1/4) or a triplet, at 2151.5, 2137.2 and 2132.4 cm−1 (at θ>1/4). These manifestations are due to the ν(CO) modes of Mg5C2+· · · CO adducts formed on the (0 0 1) terminations of the cubic MgO smoke microcrystals. The formation of the CO monolayer is occurring in two different phases: (i) a first phase with CO oscillators perpendicularly oriented to the surface (2157–2150 cm−1) and (ii) a second phase constituted by an array of coexisting perpendicular and tilted species (triplet at 2151.5, 2137.2 and 2132.4 cm−1). A much weaker feature at 2167.5–2164 cm−1 is assigned to Mg4C2+· · · CO adducts at the edges of the microcrystals. The heat of adsorption of the perpendicular Mg5C2+· · · CO complex in the first phase has been estimated from the optical isobar and results to be 11 kJ mol−1.  相似文献
