This paper demonstrates the possibility of generation of density waves in the form of individual humps in a long structure of the one-component Coulomb system of dust particles confined in the linear Paul traps in air under normal conditions Our numerical simulations by particle-in-cell method support this possibility. Physical possibility of analogous the hump density waves (caustics) is discussed by V.I. Arnold in his book ‘Catastrophe Theory’ and is caused by the nonuniform velocity distribution of dust particles.  相似文献

This work is devoted to the experimental and numerical investigations of the possibility of cleaning dusty dielectric surfaces using an electrodynamic trap. We used a linear quadrupole Paul trap and polydisperse aluminium oxide particles in our experiments. Numerical simulations were performed using Brownian and molecular dynamic methods. The phenomenon of lifting and trapping of uncharged particles placed on the glass substrate located under the trap was experimentally observed. The parameters of the trap and charges of dust particles, which are necessary for drawing them from the substrate and confining in the trap, were also estimated using numerical simulations.  相似文献

In this paper, we experimentally and numerically studied the wave-like excitations in the system comprised by a charged nylon filament (macroobject) and charged microparticles levitating in a linear quadrupole electrodynamic trap. It has been found out that a filament with sufficient sag forms a rotating standing-like wave, while the particles due to the Coulomb repulsion are localized in its antinodes. Numerical simulation shows that this dynamic collective motion can be excited at high enough voltages on the electrodes, when the energy losses due to air viscosity can be compensated by the energy contribution of the altering electric fields of the trap.  相似文献

In this paper we demonstrate that generation of the solitary density wave in the strongly coupled one component Coulomb system of particles confined in a long quadrupole electrodynamic Paul trap is possible, when the energy losses due to air viscosity can be compensated by the energy contribution of the altering electric fields of the trap. Results of this paper allow to identify observed solitary waves as the caustics (according to definition of the book “Catastrophe Theory” by V. I. Arnold) and can be considered as the new experimental support of the general versatility of the caustic theory in describing different physical phenomena not only in collisionless systems of particles but also when interparticle interaction and interaction with external fields in viscous media are strong.  相似文献
