Production of High-Transverse-Momentum Deuterons and Tritons at an Angle of 40 $${{}^{\circ}}$$ in Proton–Nucleus Interactions at a Beam Energy of 50 GeV

Neutral strange particle exclusive production in charged current high-energy antineutrino interactions

The cross section of the quasi-elastic reactions \(\bar v_\mu p \to \mu ^ + \Lambda (\Sigma ^0 )\) in the energy range 5–100 GeV is determined from Fermilab 15′ bubble chamber antineutrino data. TheQ ² analysis of quasi-elastic Λ events yieldsM _A=1.0±0.3 GeV/c² for the axial mass value. With zero µΛ K ⁰ events observed, the 90% confidence level upper limit \(\sigma (\bar v_\mu p \to \mu ^ + \Lambda {\rm K}^0 )< 2.0 \cdot 10^{ - 40} cm^2 \) is obtained. At the same time, we found that the cross section of reaction \(\bar v_\mu p \to \mu ^ + \Lambda {\rm K}^0 + m\pi ^0 \) is equal to \(\left( {3.9\begin{array}{*{20}c} { + 1.6} \\ { - 1.3} \\ \end{array} } \right) \cdot 10^{ - 40} cm^2 \) .     

Diffractive production of charmed strange mesons by neutrinos and antineutrinos

The diffractive production of charmed strangeD _s ^* and possiblyD _s mesons by neutrinos and antineutrinos on nucleons in hydrogen, deuterium and neon targets is observed. The slope parameter of thet distribution is 3.3±0.8 (GeV)^?2. The production rate per charged current neutrino interaction with an isoscalar target times the D _s ⁺ →φτ⁺ branching fraction is (1.03±0.27)×10^?4.     

Cross sections of large-angle hadron production in proton– and pion–nucleus interactions III: tantalum nuclei and beam momenta from ±3 GeV/c to ±15 GeV/c

We report on double-differential inclusive cross sections of the production of secondary protons, charged pions, and deuterons, in the interactions with a 5% λ _abs thick stationary tantalum target, of proton and pion beams with momentum from ±3 GeV/c to ±15 GeV/c. Results are given for secondary particles with production angles 20°<θ<125°. They are of particular relevance for the optimization of the design parameters of the proton driver of a neutrino factory.     

Study ofD *+ and search forD **0 production by neutrinos in BEBC

Data from BEBC experiments are combined to provide large statistics for neutrino interactions. ChargedD ^* mesons are produced in (1.22±0.25)% of neutrino and (1.01±0.31)% of antineutrino charged current interactions. The mean fraction of the hadronic laboratory energy taken by theD ^*+ in these events is 0.59±0.03±0.08. Less than 18% of all chargedD ^* mesons from (anti)neutrino interactions are found to be daughters ofD ^**0 (at the 90% confidence level).     

Estimation ofv μ→v τ oscillation parameters in the E-564 hybrid experiment

The limits on the parameters of thev _μ→v _τ oscillations are obtained in the E-564 hybrid experiment: Δm ²≦4.5 eV² and sin²(2θ)≦6.0·10^?2 (90% CL). A possibility of direct observation of τ-lepton decays in the nuclear emulsion vertex detector allowed the sensitivity of this experiment to the parameters of the oscillations to be increased.     

Production and decay of F+(2030) observed in νμ interactions in emulsion

An event representing the production and decay of the charmed F⁺ meson has been identified by means of a 3-constraint fit to decay hypothesis F⁺ → π⁺π⁺π^?π⁰, in which both γ-rays from the π⁰ converted. The event was produced by a charged current ν_μ interaction in an emulsion stack located inside the Fermilab 15-foot bubble chamber. The F⁺ traveled 50 μm, corresponding to a proper time of 1.4 × 10^?13 seconds, before decaying in flight. Its mass was determined to be 2017 ± 25MeV.     

γ production and multiplicity correlations between neutral and charged pions in pp interactions at 69 GeV/c

From 3500 γ's observed in the 4.7 m HBC MIRABELLE at Sepukhov, we obtain the dependence on n_? of the average number of produced π^0,s, 〈n₀〉, and the π⁰π⁰ correlation parameter, $\text{?}{}_2{}^{00}$. We present also the $\text{?}{}_2{}^{\mathrm{??}}$ and $\text{?}{}_2{}^{\mathrm{+0}}$ parameters and information concerning KNO scaling. Various momentum distributions are given. The invariant γ cross sections distributions are compared with corresponding data at other energies.     

Comparison of Geant4 hadron generation with data from the interactions with beryllium nuclei of +8.9 GeV/c protons and pions and −8.0 GeV/c pions

Hadron generation in the Geant4 simulation tool kit is compared with inclusive spectra of secondary protons and pions from the interactions with beryllium nuclei of +8.9 GeV/c protons and pions, and of −8.0 GeV/c pions. The data were taken in 2002 at the CERN Proton Synchrotron with the HARP spectrometer. We report on significant disagreements between data and Monte Carlo simulation especially in the polar-angle distributions of secondary protons and pions.
