Organocatalytic double arylation of 3-isothiocyanato oxindoles: Stereocontrolled synthesis of complex spirooxindoles

Quinones, precursors of aromatic structures, were firstly employed as the electrophiles for the organocatalytic Michael addition/cyclization cascade reaction with versatile 3-isothiocyanato oxindoles. Chiral bifunctional organocatalyst was appropriate for this enantioselective transformation to afford a variety of novel spirooxindoles, possessing a spirocyclic stereocenter adjacent to the aromatic ring, via asymmetric double arylation. These synthesized spirooxindoles are very difficult to access by the reported methods and were obtained in excellent chemical yields with excellent enantioselectivities.     

Synthesis of structurally diversified BINOLs and NOBINs via palladium-catalyzed C–H arylation with diazoquinones

Privileged biaryl frameworks, BINOL and NOBIN, were efficiently constructed with sole 1-DNQs as arylation reagents under one set of reaction conditions. The judicious selection of palladium-catalytic system plays a pivotal role in the excellent selectivities. This transformation accommodated fairly broad substrate generality for both 2-naphthol and N-Boc-2-naphthylamine and afforded the structurally diversified BINOLs and NOBIN derivatives in high efficiency. Notably, the bromosubstituents which cannot survive in conventional palladium-catalyzed reactions were well-compatible with this set of conditions, providing an effective handle for further enriching the library of BINOLs and NOBINs. Preliminary attempts on the asymmetric variant of this reaction were also performed with up to 80:20 er for BINOLs synthesis.     

Copper-Catalyzed Synthesis of Axially Chiral Biaryls with Diaryliodonium Salts as Arylation Reagents

NOBIN and BINAM derivatives harboring biaryl frameworks are recognized as a class of important atropisomers with versatile applications. Here, we present an efficient synthetic route to access such compounds through copper-catalyzed domino arylation of N-arylhydroxylamines or N-arylhydrazines with diaryliodonium salts and [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement. This reaction features mild conditions, good substrate compatibility, and excellent efficiency. The practicality of this protocol was further extended by the synthesis of biaryl amino alcohols.     

Enantioselective three-component Ugi reaction catalyzed by chiral phosphoric acid

A catalytic enantioselective three-component Ugi reaction was developed. SPINOL-derived phosphoric acid with bulky 2,4,6-tricyclohexylphenyl groups at the 6,6′ positions was found to be the best catalyst to afford α-amino amide derivatives in good to excellent yields(62% to 99%) and enantiocontrol(81% to 99% enantiomeric excess). This asymmetric reaction was applicable well to an array of aliphatic aldehydes. The gram-scale synthesis, modification of dapsone, and enantioselective synthesis of(R)-Lacosamide underline the general utility of this methodology. Influence of dihedral angles and substituents of the chiral phosphoric acids on the enantioselectivity was also discussed in this article.     

Thermal-Induced Dimerization Cyclization of Ethyl N-(Styrylcarbamoyl)acetates: Formation of 4-Hydroxy-2(1H)-pyridone-3- carboxamide Derivatives

Thermal-induced dimerization cyclization of ethyl N-(styrylcarbamoyl)acetate derivatives has been investigated, leading to 4-hydroxy-2(1H)-pyridone-3-carboxamide derivatives with good yields in diphenyl ether on 200–210 °C. Ethyl N-(styrylcarbamoyl)acetate derivatives readily provided the intermolecular cyclization products 4-hydroxy-2(1H)-pyridone-3-carboxylates on reflux in xylene. In addition, several related 3-acetyl-4-hydroxy-5-phenylpyridin-2(1H)-ones have been prepared. It provided an efficient preparation of 4-hydroxy-2(1H)-pyridone-3-carboxamide derivatives.     

An involution on increasing trees

We introduce a method to construct bijections on increasing trees. Using this method, we construct an involution on increasing trees, from which we obtain the equidistribution of the statistics ‘number of odd vertices’ and ‘number of even vertices at odd levels’. As an application, we deduce that the expected value of the number of even vertices is twice the expected value of the number of odd vertices in a random recursive tree of given size.
