Invariant Computation in a Poset

Kong and Ribemboim (1994) define for every poset P a sequence P = D⁰(P), D(P), D²(P), D³(P)… of posets, where Dⁱ(P) = D(D^i??1(P)) consists of all maximal antichains of D^i??1(P). They prove that for a finite poset P, there exists an integer i ≥?0 such that Dⁱ(P) is a chain. In this paper, for every finite poset P, we show how to calculate the smallest integer i for which Dⁱ(P) is a chain.

     

Overcoming the Inhibition Effects of Citrate: Precipitation of Ferromagnetic Magnetite Nanoparticles with Tunable Morphology,Magnetic Properties,and Surface Charge via Ferrous Citrate Oxidation

This study demonstrates how the method of thermally assisted oxidative precipitation in water can be opened for—the so far neglected—metal organic iron(II) complexes (herein: citrate) in order to obtain, in one step, ferromagnetic magnetite nanoparticles, possessing essential ligand properties. Based on a dedicated analysis of the specific precursor in combination with the consideration of known properties of the ligand, it is possible to identify existing inhibition-attributes of the iron organyl such that these can be overcome. Moreover, they can be exploited in a targeted manner; thus, simply by changing concentrations, a variety of magnetite nanoparticle morphologies with distinct properties can be obtained. In the case of the herein investigated ferrous citrate, three major inhibition effects are identified. While two of them efficiently prevent the formation of magnetite and need to be addressed to be overcome, the third can be exploited to selectively synthesize, for example, relatively stable carboxyl group-bearing nuclei clusters, exhibiting the properties of magnetically responsive photonic crystals, or relatively large mesocrystals, whose intraparticular magnetic interactions are apparently disturbed.

Synthesis,characterization, duplex-DNA interactions,and anticancer activities of novel octahedral [Ni(phen)2(dppz-idzo)]2+ and [Co(phen)2(dppz-idzo)]3+ complexes

Two new octahedral [Ni(phen)₂(dppz-idzo)]²⁺ and [Co(phen)₂(dppz-idzo)]³⁺ complexes have been synthesized and characterized by CHN analysis, electrospray ionization-MS, nuclear magnetic resonance, and UV–Vis spectra. The DNA-binding ability of these complexes was spectrophotometrically, hydrodynamically, and electrophoretically evaluated which indicated that they strongly intercalate into the DNA double helix, and that both induced severe DNA damage in the presence of peroxide. The complexes also showed strong antiproliferative effect against HepG2 and MDA-MB-231 cells. By contrast, they were found to be inactive against the MCF-7 cell line. The ligand itself was found to be inactive against the cells tested.     

Mean field limits for nonlinear spatially extended Hawkes processes with exponential memory kernels

We consider spatially extended systems of interacting nonlinear Hawkes processes modeling large systems of neurons placed in ${\mathbb{R}}^d$ and study the associated mean field limits. As the total number of neurons tends to infinity, we prove that the evolution of a typical neuron, attached to a given spatial position, can be described by a nonlinear limit differential equation driven by a Poisson random measure. The limit process is described by a neural field equation. As a consequence, we provide a rigorous derivation of the neural field equation based on a thorough mean field analysis.
