Graft polymerization initiated by diperiodatocuprate(III) complex (Cu(III)) initiator was found to be an effective and convenient method for graft polymerization of vinyl monomers onto macroporous polyacrylamide gels, the so‐called cryogels (pAAm‐cryogels). The effect of time, temperature, monomer and initiator concentration during the graft polymerization in aqueous and aqueous‐organic media was studied. The graft polymerization of water‐soluble monomers as [2‐(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]‐trimethylammonium chloride, 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate, N‐isopropylacrylamide, and N,N‐dimethylacrylamide proceeds with higher grafting yield in aqueous medium, as compared with that in aqueous‐organic media. Graft polymerization in aqueous‐organic media such as water–DMSO solutions allows grafting of water‐insoluble monomers such as glycidyl methacrylate and Ntert‐butylacrylamide with high grafting degrees of 100 and 410%, respectively. It was found that the deposition of initiator on the pore surface of cryogels promoted graft polymerization by facilitating the formation of the redox couple Cu(III)‐acrylamide group. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A capillary-based model modified for characterization of monolithic cryogels is presented with key parameters like the pore size distribution, the tortuosity and the skeleton thickness employed for describing the porous structure characteristics of a cryogel matrix. Laminar flow, liquid dispersion and mass transfer in each capillary are considered and the model is solved numerically by the finite difference method. As examples, two poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (pHEMA) based cryogel beds have been prepared by radical cryo-copolymerization of monomers and used to test the model. The axial dispersion behaviors, the pressure drop vs. flow rate performance as well as the non-adsorption breakthrough curves of different proteins, i.e., lysozyme, bovine serum albumin (BSA) and concanavalin A (Con A), at various flow velocities in the cryogel beds are measured experimentally. The lumped parameters in the model are determined by matching the model prediction with the experimental data. The results showed that for a given cryogel column, by using the model based on the physical properties of the cryogel (i.e., diameter, length, porosity, and permeability) together with the protein breakthrough curves one can obtain a reasonable estimate and detailed characterization of the porous structure properties of cryogel matrix, particularly regarding the number of capillaries, the capillary tortuousness, the pore size distribution and the skeleton thickness. The model is also effective with regards to predicting the flow performance and the non-adsorption breakthrough profiles of proteins at different flow velocities. It is thus expected to be applicable for characterizing the properties of cryogels and predicting the chromatographic performance under a given set of operating conditions.  相似文献

An oxazine ring was annelated to benzopyran-4-one and benzopyran-2-one cores by reacting 7-hydroxyisoflavones and 7-hydroxycoumarins with lupinylamine and formalin. The new derivatives 9,10-dihydro4H,8 H-chromeno[8,7-e][1,3]oxazin-4-one and 9,10-dihydro-2 H,8 H-chromeno[8,7-e][1,3]oxazin-2-one containing a lupinine moiety in the 9-position were prepared.  相似文献

The existence of a recurrent spinor field on a pseudo-Riemannian spin manifold (M,g) is closely related to the existence of a parallel 1-dimensional complex subbundle of the spinor bundle of (M,g). We characterize the following simply connected pseudo-Riemannian manifolds that admit these subbundles in terms of their holonomy algebras: Riemannian manifolds, Lorentzian manifolds, pseudo-Riemannian manifolds with irreducible holonomy algebras, and pseudo-Riemannian manifolds of neutral signature admitting two complementary parallel isotropic distributions.  相似文献

Suitable conditions for separating cells using a chromatographic procedure were evaluated in parallel chromatography on minicolumns. A 96-hole minicolumn plate filled with cryogel monoliths (18.8 mm x 7.1 mm ?) with immobilized concanavalin A was used. Chromatographic columns (113 mm x 7.1 mm ?) were used for chromatographic resolution of a mixture of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Escherichia coli cells. Separation of a cell mixture containing equal amounts of cells of both types performed in a column format under the determined optimal conditions, resulted in a quantitative capture of applied S. cerevisiae cells, while E. coli passed through the column. Bound S. cerevisiae cells were released by flow-induced detachment and by compression of the adsorbent in the presence of 0.3 M methyl alpha-D-manno-pyranoside. The flowthrough and the eluted fractions were analyzed by plate counting and by registering metabolic activity of S. cerevisiae cells in the eluted fractions after capturing on ConA-cryogel monoliths in a 96-minicolumn plate format. The flowthrough fraction contained E. coli cells with nearly 100% purity, whereas the fraction eluted by compression of the adsorbent contained viable S. cerevisiae cells with 95% purity. Thus, an efficient chromatographic separation of cells was achieved using affinity cryogel column.  相似文献

Cibacron Blue F3GA was immobilized on poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) cryogel and it was used for selective and efficient depletion of albumin from human serum. The poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) was selected as the basic component because of its inertness, mechanical strength, chemical and biological stability, and biocompatibility. Cibacron Blue F3GA was covalently attached to the poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) cryogel to produce poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate)-Cibacron Blue F3GA cryogel affinity column. The poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate)-Cibacron Blue F3GA cryogel was characterized with respect to gelation yield, swelling degree, total volume of macropores, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the maximum amount of adsorption (343 mg/g of dry cryogel) obtained from experimental results is very close to the calculated Langmuir adsorption capacity (345 mg/g of dry cryogel). The maximum adsorption capacity for poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate)-Cibacron Blue F3GA cryogel column was obtained as 950 mg/g of dry cryogel for nondiluted serum. The adsorption capacity decreased with increasing dilution ratios while the depletion ratio of albumin remained as 77% in serum sample. Finally, the poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate)-Cibacron Blue F3GA cryogel was optimized for using in the fast protein liquid chromatography system for rapid removal of the high abundant proteins from the human serum.  相似文献

Bromate, which is a potential carcinogen, should be removed from drinking water to levels of less than 10 μg/L. A chitosan‐based molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) and a sol–gel ion‐exchange double hydrous oxide (Fe2O3·Al2O3·xH2O) adsorbent (inorganic adsorbent) were prepared for this purpose. The sorption behavior of each adsorbent including sorption kinetics, isotherms, effect of pH and selective sorption were investigated in detail. Sorption experimental results showed that the MIP adsorbents had better selectivity for bromate, even in the presence of high concentrations of nitrate, as compared to the inorganic adsorbent. It was found that pH does not affect the adsorption of bromate when using the inorganic adsorbent. Additionally, both adsorbents were immobilized in a polymeric cryogel inside plastic carriers to make them more practical for using in larger scale. Regeneration of the cryogels either containing MIP or inorganic adsorbents were carried out by 0.1 M NaOH and 0.1 M NaCl, respectively. It was found that the regenerated MIP and inorganic adsorbents could be used at least three and five times, respectively, without any loss in their sorption capacity.  相似文献

For an arbitrary subalgebra h ? so(r, s) a polynomial pseudo-Riemannian metric of signature (r + 2, s + 2) is constructed, the holonomy algebra of this metric contains h as a subalgebra. This result shows the essential distinction between the holonomy algebras of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds of index greater than or equal to 2 and the holonomy algebras of Riemannian and Lorentzian manifolds.  相似文献
