Excess noise peaks in porous silicon-based diode structures

Results of an experimental observation of the voltage oscillations associated with a discrete tunneling of holes in porous silicon at room temperature are presented. The noise characteristics of diode structures with a porous silicon interlayer formed on heavily boron-doped silicon single crystals are studied. Peaks of excessive noise are observed at frequencies of ～1 MHz, at which single-electron oscillations should be expected. The peak noise power is found to increase with current according to the ～2.5 power law and, at a current density of 0.15 A/cm², to exceed the noise power of the receiver by three to four orders of magnitude. The complex shape of the noise spectrum and its extension to the higher frequency region with increasing current are explained by the three-dimensionality of the system of nanometer-sized silicon grains embedded in insulating silicon dioxide of porous silicon.     

Silver Intercalation into Cellulose Matrix. An X-Ray Scattering,Solid-State 13C NMR,IR, X-Ray Photoelectron,and Raman Study

Diffusion of silver ions into a cellulose matrix and their subsequent reduction both with the matrix itself and with specific reducers lead to preparation of cellulose materials containing silver(0). Most silver metal is intercalated into the cellulose matrix when glycerol is used as solvent and potassium hypophosphite or sodium boron hydrate are used as reducers.     

Use of spectroscopy of gamma-radiation from the inelastic scattering of reactor fast neutrons for elemental analysis

Gamma-spectra of stainless-steel and soil samples have been measured to study the potentialities of using spectroscopy of γ-radiation from the inelastic scattering of reactor fast neutrons for element analysis of various materials. Contents of iron, chromium, nickel, manganese, silicon and titanium in stainless steel, and those of silicon, iron, aluminium, magnesium, calcium, sodium, titanium, carbon and oxygen in soil have been determined by comparing the spectra of the samples with those of specially prepared mixtures of elements. The distinguishing features, advantages, and limitations of this method are discussed.     

Molecular structures,vibrational assignments and barriers to pseudorotation of gaseous niobium pentachloride and tantalum pentachloride from electron diffraction data

The pentachlorides of niobium and tantalum have trigonal bipyramidal structures (D_3hsymmetry) with thermal average axial bonds, r_α, longer than the equatorial ones by 0.097(9) and 0.142(5) Å, respectively. The equatorial bonds are r(Nb—Cl) = 2.241(4) and r(Ta—Cl) = 2.227(3) Å. Standard deviations are given. Calculated amplitudes of vibration for the e' type of bending frequencies assigned as v₆ (equatorial in-plane bend) < v₇ (axial—equatorial bend) agree significantly better with the experimental vibrational amplitudes than do amplitudes computed for the opposite assignment. Assuming an analytical quartic-harmonic potential for the pseudorotational motion of the molecules, barriers to pseudorotation of 1.5(0.7) and 1.2(0.6) kcal mol^?1 are estimated from the electron diffraction data for NbCl₅ and TaCl₅, respectively. Effects from interatomic multiple scattering are included in the theoretical intensities, and are found to be of some importance to the results.     

Heterocyclic analogs of pleiadiene. 70. Synthesis of 6-hydroxy-1,3-diazapyrenes

The regioselectivity of the reactions of perimidine with cinnamic acids in polyphosphoric acid (PPA) depends on the P₂O₅ content. Procedures were developed for the synthesis of 4(9)- and 6(7)-cinnamoylperimidines. Cyclization of the latter under the action of an excess of AlBr₃ was accompanied by dearylation to form 6-hydroxy-1,3-diazapyrene.
