A method to prepare a uniform thin layer of a batch Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction under oxygen-free conditions for the study of an isolated spiral wave is presented. After a first layer of gel soaked with the BZ solution has been delivered into the reactor, a single spiral wave was initiated, and finally the remaining reactor volume was filled with gel and BZ medium. The completely filled reactor is sealed gas-tightly, yielding oxygen-free, and thus more controlled, reaction conditions. A systematic study of the behaviour of an isolated spiral wave in a ferroin-catalyzed BZ reaction under batch conditions has been performed. Recipes for BZ media that support a slowly rotating meandering spiral were developed. In cases of extremely low excitability (i.e., relative large stimuli are required to induce a propagating wave), the number of petals in the trajectory of a spiral tip decreased due to aging of the reaction system. Since oxygen-free conditions are necessary for the study of the dynamics in three-dimensional excitable media, and the wave velocities of a spiral are sufficiently low, the developed chemical recipes are suitable for studies of the behaviour of scroll waves in three-dimensional systems by optical tomography. 相似文献

Let G be a group. We show that the Birget–Rhodes prefix expansion \(G^{Pr}\) and the Margolis–Meakin expansion M(X; f) of G with respect to \(f:X\rightarrow G\) can be regarded as inverse subsemigroups of a common E-unitary inverse semigroup P. We construct P as an inverse subsemigroup of an E-unitary inverse monoid \(U/\zeta \) which is a homomorphic image of the free product U of the free semigroup \(X^+\) on X and G. The semigroup P satisfies a universal property with respect to homomorphisms into the permissible hull C(S) of a suitable E-unitary inverse semigroup S, with \(S/\sigma _S=G\), from which the characterizing universal properties of \(G^{Pr}\) and M(X; f) can be recaptured easily. 相似文献

Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) by silver nanoparticles that are photochemically incorporated into an electrode-supported TiO(2) nanoparticulate framework enhances the extinction of a subsequently adsorbed dye (the ruthenium-containing molecule, N719). The enhancement arises from both an increase in the dye's effective absorption cross section and a modest increase in the framework surface area. Deployment of the silver-modified assembly as a photoanode in dye-sensitized solar cells leads to light-to-electrical energy conversion with an overall efficiency of 8.9%. This represents a 25% improvement over the performance of otherwise identical solar cells lacking corrosion-protected silver nanoparticles. As one would expect based on increased dye loading and electromagnetic field enhanced (LSPR-enhanced) absorption, the improvement is manifested chiefly as an increase in photocurrent density ascribable to improved light harvesting. 相似文献

A major loss mechanism in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) is recombination at the TiO(2)/electrolyte interface. Here we report a method to reduce greatly this loss mechanism. We deposit insulating and transparent silica (SiO(2)) onto the open areas of a nanoparticulate TiO(2) surface while avoiding any deposition of SiO(2) over or under the organic dye molecules. The SiO(2) coating covers the highly convoluted surface of the TiO(2) conformally and with a uniform thickness throughout the thousands of layers of nanoparticles. DSCs incorporating these selective and self-aligned SiO(2) layers achieved a 36% increase in relative efficiency versus control uncoated cells. 相似文献

Enzymes that catalytically transform small molecules such as CO, formate, or protons are naturally composed of transition metal cluster units bound into a larger superstructure. Artificial biomimetic catalysts are often modeled after the active sites but are typically molecular in nature. We present here a series of fully integrated porous materials containing Fe(4)S(4) clusters, dubbed "biomimetic chalcogels". We examine the effect of third metal cations on the electrochemical and electrocatalytic properties of the chalcogels. We find that ternary biomimetic chalcogels containing Ni or Co show increased effectiveness in transformations of carbon dioxide and can be thought of as solid-state analogues of NiFe or NiFeS reaction centers in enzymes. 相似文献

The experimental parameters for biodiesel production from para rubber seed oil and methanol using a SO3H-MCM-41 catalyst were optimized statistically. The SO3H-MCM-41 catalyst was synthesized by co-condensation in the presence of tetraethyl orthosilicate, 3-mercaptopropyl (methyl) dimethoxysilane (MPMDS) and cetyl-trimethylammonium bromide. In the last step, the solid catalyst (SH-MCM41) was oxidized by H2O2 to SO3H-MCM-41. The acid capacity of the obtained SO3H-MCM-41 catalyst was quantified by back titration with 0.1 M sodium hydroxide. The physical and chemical properties of the SO3H-MCM-41 were characterized by nitrogen adsorption/desorption, X-ray diffractometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The effect of varying the catalyst loading (wt.%), reaction time (h) and temperature (°C) and molar composition of MPMDS on the biodiesel yield were investigated using a 2k factorial design. The optimal conditions to maximize the biodiesel yield, obtained from the response surface analysis using a Box–Behnken design, was a 14.5 wt.% catalyst loading, and a reaction time and temperature of 48 h and 129.6 °C. Under these conditions a fatty acid methyl ester (biodiesel) yield of 84% was predicted, and an 83.10 ± 0.39% yield experimentally obtained. 相似文献

Two kinds of scroll wave instabilities were studied experimentally in the excitable Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction: three-dimensional meandering and negative line tension of the scroll wave filament. The filament displays a flat zigzag shape in the initial stages of the experiment. As the chemical medium ages, the filament assumes a wiggly shape while its length increases substantially. Numerical simulations underpin the experimental findings and their interpretation. 相似文献
