Coffee and tea are the most widely consumed beverages worldwide. However, the consumer may be unaware of the exact amount of methyl xanthine (MX, i.e. caffeine [C], theobromine [TB] and theophylline [TH]) consumed, as most of the products do not list the proper amounts. This may lead to serious risks including cardiovascular, kidney and stimulant effects. The aim of the study was to determine the MX amount in ready-to-use beverages (coffee and tea) collected from various outlets in the city of Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. Forty different samples of espresso, black coffee and red tea were collected. A fast, reliable and efficient UHPLC–DAD method was developed and validated for MX determination. Total lipids were extracted and fractionated in order to determine glycolipids, phospholipids and neutral lipids. The r2 value for the method was 0.980–0.988 in a linearity range of 0.5–200 ppm. The range for MX (C [0.02–2.39 mg/ml], TB [0.00–0.10 mg/ml] and TH [0.00–0.004 mg/ml]) and total lipids was 1–5 g. The amount of glycolipids (3.1 g) was higher among the lipid fractions followed by phospholipids (1.8 g) and neutral lipids (0.25 g). In general, espresso beverages (20–30 ml) contained high amounts of MX whereas black coffee beverages contained high amount of lipids. Most of the beverages expressed C, TB, TH, lipids or their fractions; however, the product with high amounts of MX and lipids at the same time was espresso (brands Chemistry and Wogard). Although the MX and lipid levels in these beverages well below the allowed limits, care must still be taken, especially when using the beverages with high serving volumes (200–250 ml) or coffee prepared via the filter method i.e. black coffee, using a high temperature for a longer time.  相似文献

Heavy metals are the harmful elements, regarded as carcinogens. Nevertheless, owing to their physical and chemical properties, they are still used in the production of several commercial products. Utilization of such products increases the chance for the exposure of heavy metals, some of them are categorized as probable human carcinogens (Group 1) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Exposure of heavy metals to school children at early age can result severe life time health issues and high chance of emerging cancer. Thus, we have performed study relating to the presence of heavy metals in acrylic color paints commonly used by the school children. Acrylic paints of different colors were assayed for seven potential heavy metals manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn), arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) using microwave digestion and iCAPQ inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) system. The optimized method including paints digestion reagents nitric acid (HNO3, 65%, 5 mL) and hydrofluoric acid (HF, 40%, 2 mL) have offered excellent method performance with recovery values ranged between 99.33% and 105.67%. The elements were identified in all of the analyzed samples with concentrations ranged from 0.05 to 372.59 µg/g. Cd constitutes the lower percentage (0.05%), whereas Zn constitutes high ratio contribution which was tremendously high (68.33%). Besides, the paints contamination was also color specific, with considerably total heavy metal concentrations found in brunt umber (526.57 µg/g) while scarlet color (12.62 µg/g) contained lower amounts. The outcomes of our investigation highlight the necessity for guidelines addressing the heavy metals in acrylic color paints intended for the school children usage.  相似文献

In continuous wave (CW) electron paramagnetic resonance imaging (EPRI), high quality of reconstructed image along with fast and reliable data acquisition is highly desirable for many biological applications. An accurate representation of uniform distribution of projection data is necessary to ensure high reconstruction quality. The current techniques for data acquisition suffer from nonuniformities or local anisotropies in the distribution of projection data and present a poor approximation of a true uniform and isotropic distribution. In this work, we have implemented a technique based on Quasi-Monte Carlo method to acquire projections with more uniform and isotropic distribution of data over a 3D acquisition space. The proposed technique exhibits improvements in the reconstruction quality in terms of both mean-square-error and visual judgment. The effectiveness of the suggested technique is demonstrated using computer simulations and 3D EPRI experiments. The technique is robust and exhibits consistent performance for different object configurations and orientations.  相似文献

Photopyroelectric spectroscopy is used to study the band-gap energy of the ceramic (ZnO + xSb2O3), x = 0.1 - 1.5 mol% and the ceramic (ZnO + 0.4 mol%  Bi2O3 + xSb2O3), x = 0 - 1.5 mol% sintered at isothermal temperature, 1280 °C, for 1 and 2 hours. The wavelength of incident light, modulated at 9 Hz, is kept in the visible range and the photopyroelectric spectrum with reference to doping level is discussed. The band-gap energy is reduced from 3.2 eV, for pure ZnO, to 2.86, 2.83 eV for the samples without Bi2O3at 0.1 mol% of Sb2O3 for 1 and 2 hours of sintering time, respectively. It is reduced to 2.83, 2.80 eV for the samples with Bi2O3 at 0 mol% of Sb2O3 for 1 and 2 hours of sintering time, respectively. The steepness factor σA which characterizes the slop of exponential optical absorption is discussed with reference to the doping level. The phase constitution is determined by XRD analysis; microstructure and compositional analysis of the selected areas are analyzed using SEM and EDX.  相似文献

Single crystalline needle-shaped zinc oxide nanorods were synthesized via sonochemical methods using zinc acetate dihydrate and sodium hydroxide at room temperature. Morphological investigation revealed that the nanoneedles are of hexagonal surfaces along the length. The typical diameter and length vary from 120 to 160 nm and 3 to 5 μm, respectively. Sonication time appears to be a critical parameter for the shape determination. Detailed structural characterization confirmed that the nanorods are single crystalline with wurtzite hexagonal phase. A standard peak of zinc oxide was observed at 520 cm−1 from the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The ultra-violet visible and room temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopic results demonstrate that the synthesized material has good optical properties.  相似文献

We study the control of spontaneous emission in a five-level atomic system driven by four fields. We show that with the variation of dynamical variables, namely, Rabi frequencies and carrier phases of driven fields, a wide variety of the spectral behavior can be obtained, including extreme spectral narrowing. Ferrocene‐based derivatives show potential application as burning rate catalysts (BRCs) for solid composite propellants. However, migration problems of simple ferrocene‐based derivatives limit their application as BRCs in solid composite propellants. To overcome the migration problems of ferrocene‐based BRCs and to enhance the burning rate of ammonium perchlorate (AP)‐based propellants, zero‐ to second‐generation tris(2‐aminoethyl)amine‐based ferrocene‐terminated dendrimers (G0, G1 and G2) were synthesized. The structures of G0, G1 and G2 were confirmed using 1H NMR, Fourier transform infrared and UV–visible spectroscopies. The electrochemical behavior of G0, G1 and G2 was investigated using cyclic voltammetry. It was found that G0, G1 and G2 showed redox behavior due to the presence of ferrocene and this redox behavior was diffusion controlled over the investigated scan range. The burning rate catalytic effect of G0, G1 and G2 on thermal decomposition of AP was investigated using thermogravimetry and differential thermogravimetry. G0, G1 and G2 showed good catalytic effect on the thermal decomposition of AP. Anti‐migration studies showed that migration of G0, G1 and G2 was much slower than that of 2,2‐bis(ethylferrocenyl)propane (catocene) and ferrocene.  相似文献
