An analysis of over-relaxation in a kinetic approximation of systems of conservation laws

The over-relaxation approach is an alternative to the Jin–Xin relaxation method in order to apply the equilibrium source term in a more precise way. This is also a key ingredient of the lattice Boltzmann method for achieving second-order accuracy. In this work, we provide an analysis of the over-relaxation kinetic scheme. We compute its equivalent equation, which is particularly useful for devising stable boundary conditions for the hidden kinetic variables.

Numerical simulation methods regarding fabric and cloth draping are generally based on mechanical models. These models are usually applied to uniform grids representing the true geometry of the fabric. Fabrics being a very flexible material, wrinkles appear on its surface when submitted to free or constrained motion. The main problem of the simulation is to represent realistically cloth surface motion. This is strongly dependent on the surface discretization. We present a new cloth animation scheme based on adaptive surface discretization. It can be seen as a multi-grid method which allows us to obtain realistic simulations. We propose also a new mechanical model well suited to our adaptive meshing strategy. A numerical example is given to show the efficiency of the method. To cite this article: J. Villard et al., C. R. An efficient numerical scheme for precise time integration of a diffusion-dissolution/precipitation chemical system

A numerical scheme based on an operator splitting method and a dense output event location algorithm is proposed to integrate a diffusion-dissolution/precipitation chemical initial-boundary value problem with jumping nonlinearities. The numerical analysis of the scheme is carried out and it is proved to be of order 2 in time. This global order estimate is illustrated numerically on a test case.

     

Isolation and On‐Line LC/CD Analysis of 3,8″‐Linked Biflavonoids from Gnidia involucrata

Investigation of the methanol extract of the roots of Gnidia involucrata (Thymelaeaceae) led to the isolation and characterization of two new 3,8″‐biflavonoid diastereoisomers, named GB‐4 ( 6a ) and GB‐4a ( 6b ). Their absolute configurations were determined in mixture by on‐line LC/CD measurements, which also allowed the revision of absolute configurations of the biflavanoids GB‐1 and GB‐2, and the configurational assignment of GB‐3.     

Heat-treatment studies of molybdenum oxide-monohydrate

The dehydration of molybdic acid, MoO₃---H₂O, was studied by thermal analysis, X-ray diffractometry and FTIR spectroscopy. The results show that an intermediate phase, MoO₃-2/3H₂O is formed at 216 °C and the monoclinic form of MoO₃ is grown above 350 °C. The mechanism of dehydration and structural rearrangement were confirmed by the features of the infrared spectra showing formation of corner-shared MoO₆ octahedra.     

Latex particles bearing hydrophilic grafted hairs with controlled chain length and functionality synthesized by reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer

A method is described for synthesizing latex particles with anchored hairs by the grafting of hydrophilic chains, synthesized by reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer, onto functionalized latex particles. Synthesis and biomimetic rearrangement of a chiral diterpene dioxide

As pan of a biomimetic approach towards me marine triterpene teurilene (2), the synthesis of the chiral diepoxide 3 is described. Aiming at the synthesis of the squalene tetraepoxide 1, double Sharpless epoxidation led to the intermediate bisglycidic alcohol 7 being subject to a stereochemical analysis.
