The temperature‐dependent aggregation and recovery of the copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)22b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)29 with a C12 end‐cap in aqueous solutions of salts and acids are investigated. Salt solutions affected the critical aggregation temperature of the copolymer in a manner predictable according to the Hofmeister series, with the kosmotropic adipic ion lowering the critical aggregation temperature and the chaotropic iodide raising it. Also, both salts and acids increased the size of copolymer aggregates formed with heating, due to the electrostatic shielding of aggregated structures provided by the electrolytes. Additionally, the presence of ionic additives caused a thermohysteretic increase in the size of copolymer aggregates with temperature cycling. The transitions of polymer structure with increasing temperature were surprisingly sharp with the C12 end‐cap present, and particularly broad in samples in which the end cap had been cleaved. This observation suggested that the hydrophobic end group was responsible for imparting some degree of order to the polymer at low temperatures, which allowed for rapid reconfiguration with increasing temperature. Finally, in addition to the transitions expected from the least critical solution temperature behavior of the polymer blocks, we have observed an unexpected additional transition which we attribute to the contraction of the poly(ethylene oxide) chains of the copolymer aggregates at higher temperatures. This work illustrates the importance of considering the environment and composition of thermoresponsive block copolymers in certain applications, particularly in solutions with even modest electrolyte concentrations (1–10 mM), as it can have a profound effect on transition temperatures and morphology. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The aggregation properties of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) can be exploited in organic synthesis to control dilution effects. Through the use of solvent mixtures containing PEG400/MeOH, macrocyclization by Glaser–Hay coupling can be conducted at high concentrations. The origin of the selectivity has been studied by using surface tension measurements, UV spectroscopy, and chemical tagging and demonstrates the dependence of the yield and selectivity on the aggregation of PEG400 and its ability to preferentially solubilize organic substrates, resulting in a phase separation from the catalyst system.  相似文献

Although the fundamental degradation chemistry of poly(ethylene naphthalate), PEN, is thought to be similar to that of poly(ethylene terephthalate), PET, there is very little evidence in the literature to support this. This paper presents data on the thermal degradation of PEN, in comparison to PET, with particular reference to evolved gas analysis undertaken by thermal volatilisation analysis (TVA). Our thermal degradation studies highlight strong similarities in the degradation behaviour of PET and PEN, despite some evidence of increased thermal stability of PEN in comparison to PET. Identical primary and secondary thermal degradation mechanisms are proposed for PET and PEN, with radical degradation processes thought to dominate at high temperature.  相似文献

The increasing accumulation of poly(ethylene terephthalate) polymer and poor recycle/disposal practices have made them omnipresent and a major culprit for environmental pollution. Currently global research efforts are focused on primary and secondary recycling of PET waste or through landfills. Chemical recycling of PET through hydrolytic or aminolytic route has been attempted by many researchers however with limited end applications. In our investigations we have used PET waste as a synthon and chemically converted it through a new non-catalytic route into several benzamide derivatives. We have successfully tested them for antistripping performance in bitumen. Our results as elaborated in the paper indicate a comparable performance of the new chemistry products based on PET, to commercially used antistripping chemicals. Our research work thus opens a new route for the recycling of used PET in bituminous concrete roads which may help in alleviating a major environmental problem and disposal of waste PET polymer in large scale.  相似文献

Three series of crosslinked octadecyl acrylate and acrylic acid copolymers were prepared through suspension copolymerization based on acrylic acid content (10, 30, 50%wt. ratio). Divinyl benzene (DVB) was used as a crosslinker with different weight ratios (1, 4 and 10%). Isopropyl alcohol or dioctyl phthalate and methyl benzoate were used as two different reaction solvents in the presence of ABIN as initiator. The prepared crosslinked copolymers were characterized by SEM, TGA and FTIR spectroscopic analyses. The prepared polymers were coated onto poly(ethylene terephethalate) nonwoven fiber (NWPET). The effect of copolymerization feed composition, crosslinker wt% and reaction media or solvent on swelling properties of crosslinked polymers were studied through the oil absorption tests in toluene and 10% of diluted crude oil with toluene. It was noticed that the maximum swelling of crosslinked copolymers was increased from 30 to 100 g/g after grafting of copolymers onto NWPET.  相似文献

Aqueous ethylene glycol (ethane 1,2 diol) as a green mobile phase has been used for thin layer chromatographic (TLC) studies of cationic surfactants on alumina layers. Nineteen solvent systems were used to examine the mobility of the surfactants and to discover the best TLC system for the selective separation of dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) from multi-component mixture of other surfactants. Among the TLC systems studied, M3 (ethylene glycol: water, 8:2) was best for achieving the selective separation of DTAB from multi-component mixture of other surfactants because in this mobile phase mobility of all surfactants except DTAB were insignificant. Effect of organic additives in aqueous ethylene glycol mobile phase on the mobility of surfactants was examined. The results obtained on laboratory made alumina TLC plates and commercially available precoated alumina HPTLC plates were compared. The lower limits of detection of DTAB, CPC, CTAB, HDTAC, and TTAB were 0.02, 0.05, 0.04, 0.06, or 0.08 µg per zone respectively. The resolution of mixture of cationic surfactants was also examined in the presence metal cations as an impurity in the analyzed sample.  相似文献

A series of cholesterylated thiogalactosides L1 L6 the cell targeting ligands for gene delivery to hepatocytes, was synthesized. Related poly(ethylene glycol) chain was used as a bridge for the attachment of galactoside on one hydroxyl end, while the other hydroxyl end was linked with cholesterol. A family of fluorinated gemini surfactants derived from perfluoropinacol has been synthesized as novel 19F magnetic resonance imaging (19F MRI) agents. These fluorinated surfactants with 12 symmetric fluorine atoms and one singlet 19F MR peak can be conveniently prepared from perfluoropinacol and oligo(ethylene glycols) on multi-gram scales. Solubility, hydrophilicity (log P), and critical micelle concentration (CMC) measurements of these fluorinated surfactants indicated that high aqueous solubility can be achieved by introducing oligo(ethylene glycols) with appropriate length into perfluoropinacol, i.e., manipulating the fluorine content (F%). One of these fluorinated surfactants with high aqueous solubility and excellent 19F MR properties has been identified by 19F MRI phantom experiments as a promising 19F MRI agent.  相似文献

以五水硝酸铋和氯化钠为原料,乙二醇(EG)和水作溶剂,通过声化学辅助溶剂热法合成了系列BiOCl纳米晶光催化剂。应用氮气物理吸附、X射线粉末衍射(XRD)、扫描电镜(SEM)、傅里叶变换红外光谱(FTIR)、紫外-可见(UV-Vis)漫反射(DRS)和光电流等测试手段对所制备的光催化剂进行了表征。在汞灯和氙灯照射下,以苯酚和甲基橙为水体模型污染物,系统考察了超声辐射时间和醇水比(VEG/VH2O)对BiOCl光催化剂性能的影响。结果表明,当超声辐射时间为60 min,VEG/VH2O=1/4时,合成的BiOCl表现出最佳的光催化活性,为常规沉淀法制备的BiOCl的3.3倍。活性提高的主要原因是,适当时间的超声波辐射和醇水比有利于催化剂比表面积的提高,同时可以丰富催化剂表面羟基(-OH)的数量和提高光生电子和空穴的分离效率。  相似文献
