Approximation of bandlimited functions

Many signals encountered in science and engineering are approximated well by bandlimited functions. We provide suitable error bounds for the approximation of bandlimited functions by linear combinations of certain special functions—the prolate spheroidal wave functions of order 0. The coefficients in the approximating linear combinations are given explicitly via appropriate quadrature formulae.     

A new rule of vibration sampling for predicting acoustical radiation from rectangular plates

Structural surface velocity distribution is often used to predict structural borne sound radiation. However the sampling interval of velocity should be chosen carefully to increase the prediction accuracy and to reduce the system cost. In this paper, several factors affecting the sampling interval are theoretically analyzed and discussed for a vibrating baffled rectangular plate. A new rule for the determination of the sampling interval is formulated. Using this rule, the results from both numerical simulations and experiments may be explained well.

幅相一致行波管高频电路CAD研究

 在行波管的设计和装配过程中，各部件的尺寸必须严格控制，高频电路参数的离散对行波管色散特性有极大的影响。使用螺旋导电面模型，模拟计算了高频结构各主要参数离散对色散特性和轴向互作用耦合阻抗的影响。分析计算了夹持杆宽度、翼片高度、螺旋线平均半径、螺距、夹持杆介电常数等离散时对色散特性和轴向互作用耦合阻抗的影响，为新型幅相一致行波管的设计和生产提供了很有价值的参考建议。     

Effective magnetic properties of a composite material with circular conductive elements

Effective magnetic properties of a composite meta-material consisting of periodically arranged circular conductive elements are studied theoretically. A general expression for the effective bulk permeability is obtained with mutual effects and lattice ordering being taken into account. The resonance frequency of the permeability is found to be strongly dependent on the size and shape of the unit cell. Frequency dispersion of the permeability is studied with special attention paid to the frequency range, where negative values of the permeability are possible. Corresponding recommendations for optimisation of the meta-materials with negative permeability are made. The results are confirmed by numerical simulations of the finite structure behaviour in an external magnetic field. Received 19 April 2002 Published online 31 July 2002     

声波在一维声子晶体中共振隧穿的研究

通过从实验和理论方面对声波在一维声子晶体单晶体和被小的共振腔分开的双晶体中传播时发生的隧穿和共振隧穿现象的研究，观察到了声子晶体单晶体在带隙频率范围内发生的隧穿现象，而对于双晶体样品，在带隙频率范围内出现了很强的共振透射峰.共振发生时，实验测得的群时间很大，但是没有共振时，群速度却很快. 关键词： 声波 声子晶体 隧穿 共振     

Comparisons between model equations for long waves

Summary Considered here are model equations for weakly nonlinear and dispersive long waves, which feature general forms of dispersion and pure power nonlinearity. Two variants of such equations are introduced, one of Korteweg-de Vries type and one of regularized long-wave type. It is proven that solutions of the pure initial-value problem for these two types of model equations are the same, to within the order of accuracy attributable to either, on the long time scale during which nonlinear and dispersive effects may accumulate to make an order-one relative difference to the wave profiles.This research was supported in part by the National Science Foundation. A considerable portion of the project was completed while the first author was resident at the Institute for Mathematics and Its Applications, University of Minnesota.     

约束层对激光驱动冲击波压力影响机理的理论研究

针对刚性约束层、柔性约束层以及液体约束层，从激光诱导冲击波阵面状态、汽化物(包括气体和等离子体)扩散以及冲击波的反射进行分析，发现对于脉宽小于冲击波通过汽化物层的时间间隔的短脉冲激光，约束层并不能直接提高冲击波的冲量，而对于脉宽大于冲击波通过汽化层时间间隔的激光，其增强冲击效果是通过约束汽化物的扩散，提高压力幅值和由于冲击波在约束层与工件表面的多次反射而延长对工件的作用时间来实现的.刚性约束层能最大地增加冲击冲量，而柔性约束层和液体约束层的主要优点是其形状可与非平面形工件表面符合. 关键词： 激光 约束层 扩散 反射波     

8 mm回旋行波管和返波管的三折螺旋波纹波导色散分析

 三折螺旋波纹波导使TE11模和TE21模相互耦合，其色散曲线能够在宽频带内与电子回旋共振，因此需要对色散方程进行研究。提出了适合工程实用的行波模式和返波模式的色散方程，并对方程中的耦合系数进行了简化，误差在1%左右。利用CST软件的VBA语言对螺旋波纹波导进行建模和计算，根据模拟得到的传输特性曲线的特点，提出一种模拟方法，将模拟与理论计算得到的色散曲线作对比，误差在5%左右。     

Projective geometry and special relativity

Some concepts of real and complex projective geometry are applied to the fundamental physical notions that relate to Minkowski space and the Lorentz group. In particular, it is shown that the transition from an infinite speed of propagation for light waves to a finite one entails the replacement of a hyperplane at infinity with a light cone and the replacement of an affine hyperplane – or rest space – with a proper time hyperboloid. The transition from the metric theory of electromagnetism to the pre‐metric theory is discussed in the context of complex projective geometry, and ultimately, it is proposed that the geometrical issues are more general than electromagnetism, namely, they pertain to the transition from point mechanics to wave mechanics.
