The aim of this article is to give some property of continued fraction with matrices arguments, about their convergence and others applications. At the end of this work, we present a resolution of the Algebraic Riccati Equation by giving an explicit continued fraction development of its solution. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Analysis of finite dimensional approximations to a class of partial differential equations

In this paper, a unified approach for analysing finite dimensional approximations to a class of partial differential equations boundary value problems (second‐kind Fredholm differential equations) is introduced. The approach is shown to be general despite of its extremely simple form. In particular, it is expected to be useful in the convergence analysis of finite element methods for solving PDE problems. 硅基两维光子晶体的制备和光子带隙特性

利用反应离子束刻蚀设备制备了硅基的两维空气柱光子晶体，并用红外显微镜测试了样品的 反射谱. 理论上用时域有限差分(FDTD)方法计算了样品的光子带隙，从测试结果看光子带隙 和理论计算的光子带隙符合得很好.  关键词： 光子晶体 光子带隙 反射谱 时域有限差方法     

Krylov subspaces and the analytic grade

Typical behaviour of the solution of a linear system of equations obtained iteratively by Krylov methods can be characterized by three stages. Initially the residual diminishes steadily; this is followed by stagnation and finally rapid convergence near the algebraic grade. This study examines this behaviour in terms of the concepts of approximately invariant subspace and what we have called the analytic grade of a Krylov sequence. It is shown how the small Ritz values play a vital role in the convergence and how this knowledge helps in the construction of an effective preconditioner. The Convergence and Stability of Splitting Finite-Difference Schemes for Nonlinear Evolutionary Equations

We consider a splitting finite-difference scheme for an initial-boundary value problem for a two-dimensional nonlinear evolutionary equation. The problem is split into nonlinear and linear parts. The linear part is also split into locally one-dimensional equations. We prove the convergence and stability of the scheme in L ₂ and C norms. ΓD‐convergence for a class of quasilinear elliptic equations in thin structures

We study the asymptotic behaviour of the solution of a stationary quasilinear elliptic problem posed in a domain Ω^(ε) of asymptotically degenerating measure, i.e. meas Ω^(ε) → 0 as ε → 0, where ε is the parameter that characterizes the scale of the microstructure. We obtain the convergence of the solution and the homogenized model of the problem is constructed using the notion of convergence in domains of degenerating measure. Proofs are given using the method of local characteristics of the medium Ω^(ε) associated with our problem in a variational form. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Electronic molecule-like spectrum of quantum wells in crossed fields

We show that an electron confined to a single finite parabolic quantum well in crossed electric and magnetic fields can behave as a double quantum well system. The magnetic field is parallel to the heterostructure layers and the electric field is perpendicular to those. For a suitable choice of both fields and quantum well width, the electron can be confined to a double quantum well effective potential that is very similar to the electronic potential model for diatomic molecules. The double quantum well spectrum is calculated using a numerical algorithm based on semiclassical methods. A physical interpretation of this quantum system is given based on the analogy to the electrons bound to diatomic molecules.

Two Convergence Problems for Monotone Sequences

Eight measures of rate of convergence of monotone sequences of real numbers have been proposed and discussed in a paper by Beyer, Ebanks, and Qualls (Acta Appl. Math. 20 (1990), 267–284). These rates arose in discussions of dynamical systems. In the comparisons of these rates, two problems remained. A complete answer is given to one of the problems and a partial answer is given to the other problem.
