Strength of cylinder joint adhesively bonded by coupling

Summary A method of joining two metal cylindrical shafts with adhesive coupling is proposed. Two cylindrical shafts with the same diameter are connected by bonding through a cylindrical coupling with epoxy resin. The strength of the shaft joint under tensile loading and torsional loading is investigated analytically and experimentally. The stress and strain distributions of the shaft joint is analyzed by the finite element method. The analyzed strain distributions in the joint are compared with experimental values. The joint strength is predicted by applying the strength laws of shafts, coupling, adhesive layer and adhesive interface between shaft and adhesive coupling. The effects of the coupling dimension on the joint strength are examined. It is shown that the adhesive shaft joint can transfer the load by which the cylindrical shafts are plastically deformed.This paper was refined by the author, K. Instability of Fabry-Perot interferometer with a multilayered paramagnetic filling

The results of the analysis of the stability of stationary solutions of wave equations discribing a behavior of the nonlinear Fabry-Perot interferometer with a saturated paramagnetic filling are presented in this paper. The cases when paramagnetic medium is characterized by a homogeneously and nonhomogeneously broadened line of the magnetic resonance have been considered. Areas of unstable behavior of these characteristics of the resonance structure have been found.     

Stability of bars made of linear elastic materials with voids

Summary Dynamic stability of an elastic bar with voids is considered. Using the Lyapunov approach some new sufficient stability conditions are obtained and explicit expressions for the critical load are derived.     

Identification of nonstationary axisymmetric load distributed along a cylindrical shell

The paper outlines a procedure to identify the space-and time-dependent external nonstationary load acting on a closed circular cylindrical shell of medium thickness. Time-dependent deflections at several points of the shell are used as input data to solve the inverse problem. Examples of numerical identification of various nonstationary loads, including moving ones are presented. The relationship between the external load and the stress-strain state of the shell is described by the Volterra equation of the first kind. The identification problem is solved using Tikhonov's regularization method and Apartsin's h-regularization method __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 44, No. 7, pp. 91–100, July 2008.     

Three Stilbene Tetramers from the Roots of Caragana sinica

Three stilbene tetramers, carasinols A-C (1-3), along with three known substances, leachianol C, cararosinol A and stenophyllol B, were isolated from the roots of Caragana sinica. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopy. It was found that compounds isolated except for stenophyllol B stimulated the proliferation of cultured osteoblasts.     

Discrete storage processes and their Poisson flow and fluid flow approximations

Consider discrete storage processes that are modulated by environmental processes. Environmental processes cause interruptions in the input and/or output processes of the discrete storage processes. Due to the difficulties encountered in the exact analysis of such discrete storage systems, often Poisson flow and/or fluid flow models with the same modulating environmental processes are proposed as approximations for these systems. The analysis of Poisson flow and fluid flow models is much easier than that of the discrete storage processes. In this paper we give sufficient conditions under which the content of the discrete storage processes can be bounded by the Poisson flow and the fluid flow models. For example, we show that Poisson flow models and the fluid flow models developed by Kosten (and by Anick, Mitra and Sondhi) can be used to bound the performance of infinite (finite) source packetized voice/data communication systems. We also show that a Poisson flow model and the fluid flow model developed by Mitra can be used to bound the buffer content of a two stage automatic transfer line. The potential use of the bounding techniques presented in this paper, of course, transcends well beyond these examples.Supported in part by NSF grant DMS-9308149.     

Relationships between characteristics in periodic Poisson queues

We study single server periodic queues in the day equilibrium conditions. The following characteristics of interest are considered at time of dayt: V^p(t)-the work load, L^p(t)-the number of customers and u^p(t)-the departure rate. We give relationships between E[V^p(t)], E[L^p(t)] and u^p(t). We also prove that E[V^p(t)] < and E[L^p(t)] < provided the second moment of the service time is finite.     

Image guide couplers with dielectric coupling elements and radiation reduction

Directional couplers in image guide technique for millimeter-wave circuits are discussed, and steps to improve their properties are demonstrated. The simple two-line-9 dB coupler with periodical coupling is compared to a design with an intermediate dielectric coupling element to reduce the frequency dependence. Radiation from the waveguide bends can be reduced significantly by inserting absorber materials at critical points. Experimental results for a-3 dB coupler are also given.     

阿托伐他汀钙与β-环糊精相互作用的研究及应用

采用线性扫描伏安法和循环伏安法并结合紫外分光光度法研究了新型抗血脂紊乱药物阿托伐他汀钙(AC)与β-环糊精(-βCD)的相互作用.探讨了-βCD对AC的峰电流及AC对-βCD吸附峰电流的影响,测得在0.06mol/LKH2PO4-Na2HPO4(pH=7.17)缓冲溶液中,AC与-βCD包结比为1:1,用电流法测得包结物的形成常数为9.09×104L/mol.根据碱性介质条件下β-CD分子与AC形成包结物而使β-CD吸附峰电流减小的特性,建立了一种利用β-CD间接测定AC的伏安方法.
