Inverse gas chromatography (IGC) was applied to characterize the surface energy of organically modified silicates (ormosils) by measuring the interaction of molecular organic probes with the ormosil surface. Ormosils were prepared by the sol-gel method by the reaction of TEOS (tetraethoxysilane), PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) and different types of silica (Aerosil 130, Aerosil 200 and Aerosil 380). The isosteric heat of adsorption, q st, and the dispersive component of the surface energy, s D, were estimated by using the retention volume of different nonpolar and polar probes at infinite dilution. The dispersive component shows an increase as the specific surface area of the silica is increased from 29.6 mJ/m2 to 51.4 mJ/m2 at 60°C. Such values are lower than that obtained for aerosil particles meaning that PDMS chains impede the interaction with silanol groups located on the silica surface. The specific interaction parameter, ISP, and the enthalpy of specific adsorption, H a SP, of polar probes on the ormosil surface were also measured in order to obtain the acid-base character of ormosil surface. The H a SP, was correlated with the donor, DN, and the acceptor, AN, numbers of the probes to quantify the acidic, K A, and the basic, K B, parameters of the substrate surface. The obtained results suggest that the silica particles were covered by PDMS chains in a different way depending on the type of silica used. The values of K A and K B suggest that the ormosil surface is amphoteric, with predominantly acceptor electron sites.  相似文献

Summary The effect of hydrogen reduction on the structure and catalytic properties of “thin film”and “inverse”model systems for supported metal catalysts is discussed. Thin film model catalysts were obtained by epitaxial growth of Pt and Rh nanoparticles on NaCl(001), which were coated with amorphous or crystalline supports of alumina, silica, titania, ceria and vanadia. Structural and morphological changes upon hydrogen reduction between 473 and 973 K were examined by high resolution electron microscopy. Metal-oxide interaction sets in at a specific reduction temperature and is characterized by an initial “wetting”stage, followed by alloy formation at increasing temperature, in the order VOx< TiOx< SiO2< CeOx< Al2O3. “Inverse”model systems were prepared by deposition of oxides on a metal substrate, e.g. VOx/Rh and VOx/Pd. Reduction of inverse systems at elevated temperature induces subsurface alloy formation. In contrast to common bimetallic surfaces, the stable subsurface alloys of V/Rh and V/Pd have a purely noble metal-terminated surface, with V positioned in near-surface layers. The uniform composition of the metallic surface layer excludes catalytic ensemble effects in favor of ligand effects. Activity and selectivity, e.g. for CO and CO2methanation and for partial oxidation of ethene, are mainly controlled by the temperature of annealing or reduction. Reduction above 573 K turned out to be beneficial for the catalytic activity of the subsurface alloys, but not for the corresponding thin film systems which tend to deactivate viaparticle encapsulation.</o:p>  相似文献

It is of engineering importance to accurately predict the surface cooling characteristics in bath quenching of metals and alloys. In this investigation, the surface cooling characteristics in quenching of Wolfson probe are estimated with reasonable accuracy by solving an inverse heat conduction problem. Regularization method is used for smoothening the input temperature measurements at probe center, for superior inversion estimates. The reverse pool-boiling curve is captured on bath quenching characteristic, plotted as cooling velocity versus surface temperature. The prime advantage is the bypassing of convection coefficients, which are uncertain in pool boiling.  相似文献

A numerical/experimental inverse procedure was employed to estimate the temperature-dependent thermal conductivity of a solid body in which 1D heat conduction in a top heated cylindrical sample is assumed. The emphasis is focused on the issue of sensitivity of results to selected assumptions made in inverse calculations. It has been found that the accuracy of heat capacity evaluation brings the largest contribution to final errors (up to 74%). Density accounts for one-fourth to one-third of the total error of determination. The failure to ensure unidirectional heat conduction in a sample during an experiment is important only at elevated temperatures.  相似文献

Flame shape is an important observed characteristic of flames that can be used to scale flame properties such as heat release rates and radiation. Flame shape is affected by fuel type, oxygen levels in the oxidiser, inverse burning and gravity. The objective of this study is to understand the effect of high oxygen concentrations, inverse burning, and gravity on the predictions of flame shapes. Flame shapes are obtained from recent analytical models and compared with experimental data for a number of inverse and normal ethane flame configurations with varying oxygen concentrations in the oxidiser and under earth gravity and microgravity conditions. The Roper flame shape model was extended to predict the complete flame shapes of laminar gas jet normal and inverse diffusion flames on round burners. The Spalding model was extended to inverse diffusion flames. The results show that the extended Roper model results in reasonable predictions for all microgravity and earth gravity flames except for enhanced oxygen normal diffusion flames under earth gravity conditions. The results also show trends towards cooler flames in microgravity that are in line with past experimental observations. Some key characteristics of the predicted flame shapes and parameters needed to describe the flame shape using the extended Roper model are discussed.  相似文献
