We have computed electronic structures and total energies of circularly confined two-dimensional quantum dots and their lateral
dimers in zero and finite uniform external magnetic fields using different theoretical schemes: the spin-density-functional
theory (SDFT), the current-and-spin-density-functional theory (CSDFT), and the variational quantum Monte Carlo (VMC) method.
The SDFT and CSDFT calculations employ a recently-developed, symmetry-unrestricted real-space algorithm allowing solutions
which break the spin symmetry. Results obtained for a six-electron dot in the weak confinement limit and in zero magnetic
field as well as in a moderate confinement and in finite magnetic fields enable us to draw conclusions about the reliability
of the more approximative SDFT and CSDFT schemes in comparison with the VMC method. The same is true for results obtained
for the two-electron quantum dot dimer as a function of inter-dot distance. The structure and role of the symmetry-breaking
solutions appearing in the SDFT and CSDFT calculations for the above systems are discussed.

We present numerical investigations of the transmission properties of electrons in a normal quantum wire tangentially attached
to a superconductor ring threaded by magnetic flux. A point scatterer with a δ -function potential is placed at node to model
scattering effect. We find that the transmission characteristics of electrons in this structure strongly depend on the normal
or superconducting state of the ring. The transmission probability as a function of the energy of incident electrons, in the
case of a superconductor ring threaded by one quantum magnetic flux, emerges one deep dip, imposed upon the first broad bump
in spectrum. This intrinsic conductance dip originates from the superconductor state of the ring. When increasing the magnetic
flux from one quantum magnetic flux to two, the spectrum shifts toward higher energy region in the whole. This conductance
dip accordingly shifts and appears in the second bump. In the presence of a point-scatterer at the node, the spectrum is substantially
modified. Based on the condition of the formation of the standing wave functions in the ring and the broken of the time-reserve
symmetry of Schr?dinger equation after switching magnetic flux, the characteristics of transmission of electrons in this structure
can be well understood.

We present in this paper an efficient approach for solving the problem of planning the long-term (multiyear) operation of a multireservoir hydroelectric power system for the critical period with a monthly variable load. This load is equal to a certain percentage of the total generation at the end of the year, subject to satisfying a number of constraints on the hydrosystem, using the minimum norm formulation.The proposed method is efficient in computing time and in calculating the total expected benefits from the system during the critical period. Numerical results are reported for a real system in operation consisting of two rivers. In a way similar to the continuous case formally, we define in different but equivalent manners the difference discrete connection and curvature on discrete vector bundle over the regular lattice as base space. We deal with the difference operators as the discrete counterparts of the derivatives based upon the differential calculus on the lattice. One of the definitions can be extended to the case over the random lattice. In this paper, nonconvex multiobjective optimization problems are studied. New characterizations of a properly efficient solution in the sense of Geoffrion's are established in terms of the stability of one scalar optimization problem and the existence of an exact penalty function of a scalar constrained program, respectively. We study the propagation of the light mesons σ,ω,ρ, and a0(980) in dense hadronic matter in an extended derivative scalar coupling model. Within the scheme proposed it is possible
to unambiguously define effective density-dependent couplings at the Lagrangian level. We first apply the model to study asymmetric
nuclear matter with fixed isospin asymmetry, and then we pay particular attention to hypermatter in β-equilibrium. The equation
of state and the potential contribution to the symmetry coefficient arising from the mean-field approximation are investigated.

A method of controlling global stochasticity in Hamiltonian systems by applying nonlinear perturbation is proposed. With the
well-known standard map we demonstrate that this control method can convert global stochasticity into regular motion in a
wide chaotic region for arbitrary initial condition, in which the control signal remains very weak after a few kicks. The
system in which chaos has been controlled approximates to the original Hamiltonian system, and this approach appears robust
against small external noise. The mechanism underlying this high control efficiency is intuitively explained.

We compute the width and shape of the EPR and tunneling resonances due to dislocations in Mn12 acetate crystals. Uncorrelated dislocations produce the Gaussian shape of resonances while dislocations bound in pairs produce
the Lorentzian shape. We stress that the uniaxial spin Hamiltonian together with crystal defects can explain the totality
of experimental data on Mn12.
