Periodic Optical Pulses in Nonlinear Optical Fibers

We discuss the problem of transmitting polarized pulses along optical fibers with variable dispersion. The dissipation and mean dispersion are assumed to be zero, which allows using the model of the vector nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We consider an optical fiber consisting of arms of equal length, which is assumed to be large. We propose an asymptotic recursive procedure for calculating the amplitude and the phase of an optical pulse propagating along the optical cable with variable dispersion.     

Feedback controlled periodic states for different kinds of photorefractive nonlinear response

We investigate analytically and numerically the influence of the type of the photorefractive nonlinear response on the periodic states (attractors) which occur during feedback controlled 2W-coupling and correspond to almost 100% diffraction efficiency of the dynamic index grating. In addition to the case of the local response typical, for example, for LiNbO₃ crystals we consider the cases of nonlocal (diffusive) response (BaTiO₃, SBN) and resonant response (DC-biased BSO, BTO, and BGO crystals). It is shown that the conditions for the transition to the periodic states and their apparent characteristics are strongly different for the two limiting cases above. Substructuring preconditioners for saddle-point problems arising from Maxwell's equations in three dimensions

This paper is concerned with the saddle-point problems arising from edge element discretizations of Maxwell's equations in a general three dimensional nonconvex polyhedral domain. A new augmented technique is first introduced to transform the problems into equivalent augmented saddle-point systems so that they can be solved by some existing preconditioned iterative methods. Then some substructuring preconditioners are proposed, with very simple coarse solvers, for the augmented saddle-point systems. With the preconditioners, the condition numbers of the preconditioned systems are nearly optimal; namely, they grow only as the logarithm of the ratio between the subdomain diameter and the finite element mesh size.

     

Polariton gap solitary waves in semiconductor microcavities

We study nonlinear dynamics of optical pulse propagation in the spectral region inside the polariton gap. It is shown that the Kerr nonlinearity can lead to formation of solitary waves in this region of frequencies.     

WKB Wave Function of the General Time-Dependent Quadratic Hamiltonian System

We derived the WKB wave function for the general time-dependent quadratic Hamiltonian system using a unitary transformation method. We applied our research to sinusodially drived Caldirola–Kanai oscillator and confirmed that the time evolution of our approximated WKB wave function is similar to that of the exact one. This wave function can be used to analyze the interference between the probability amplitudes contributed by the area of overlap in phase space of quantum states.     

波片复合旋光器研究

利用矩阵光学方法，分析了波片复合旋光器的理论基础，给出了二元和三元复合波片旋光器的条件及其旋光角的大小的数学表达式，并根据此理论作了典型设计。结果表明，旋光角的大小与各波片的延迟量和它们的快轴同X轴的夹角有关。     

非线性光纤环形镜的脉冲透过特性研究

研究了光纤反常色散区非线性环形镜（NOLM）的脉冲透过特性，得到NOLM周期性透过率函数 第一极大值处透过率、压缩比和对应的孤子阶数与环长之间的函数关系图.通过比较长环和 短环NOLM对无啁啾、啁啾脉冲的透过率和压缩比特性，得出了长环有利于脉冲整形而短环有 利于脉冲压缩的结论. 关键词： 非线性环形镜 透过率 压缩比 孤子阶数     

束晕-混沌的复杂性理论与控制方法及其应用前景

本文系统论述涉及强流加速器等强流离子束装置中产生的束晕-混沌的复杂性理论与控制方法及其应用前景。强流离子束在核材料生产与增殖、洁净核能、放射性废物嬗变、放射性药物生产、重离子聚变、高能物理、核科学与工程、国防与民用工业和医疗等许多方面都有极其重要的应用潜力和诱人的发展前景。尤其是，近年来强流加速器驱动的放射性洁净核能系统是国内外关注的热门课题，因为它比常规核电更安全、更干净、更便宜。但是，强流离子束形成的束晕-混沌的复杂性现象已引起了国内外广泛关注，需要加以抑制、控制和消除这类现象，解决这一难题已经成为强流离子束应用中的关键问题之一。目前不仅必须深入研究这类束晕-混沌的复杂特性及其产生的物理机制，而且需要研究如何实现对束晕-混沌的有效控制，并寻求和发展其新理论、新方法和新技术。这就向强流离子束物理和非线性-复杂性科学及其技术提出了一系列极富挑战性的新课题。本文结合国内外的研究概况，根据我们多年来的研究成果，特别是我们首创性地提出了一些束晕-混沌的有效控制方法，它们包括：非线性反馈控制法，小波反馈控制法，变结构控制法，延迟反馈控制法，参数自适应控制法等，进行重点的介绍。对上述课题当前的主要进展及相关问题进行系统的总结和比较全面综述的评论。最后，指出该领域今后的研究方向，以推动这个崭新领域的深入研究和应用发展。     

Analytical Study of Nonlinear Dust Acoustic Waves in Two-Dimensional Dust Plasma with Dust Charge Variation

The nonlinear dust acoustic waves in two-dimensional dust plasma with dust charge variation is analytically investigated by using the formally variable separation approach. New analytical solutions for the governing equation of this system have been obtained for dust acoustic waves in a dust plasma for the first time. We derive exact analytical expressions for the general case of the nonlinear dust acoustic waves in two-dimensional dust plasma with dust charge variation.     

Three-Step Predictor-Corrector of Exponential Fitting Method for Nonlinear Schroedinger Equations

We develop the three-step explicit and implicit schemes of exponential fitting methods. We use the three- step explicit exponential fitting scheme to predict an approximation, then use the three-step implicit exponential fitting scheme to correct this prediction. This combination is called the three-step predictor-corrector of exponential fitting method. The three-step predictor-corrector of exponential fitting method is applied to numerically compute the coupled nonlinear Schroedinger equation and the nonlinear Schroedinger equation with varying coefficients. The numerical results show that the scheme is highly accurate.
