Synthesis of 6,7-disubstituted-5H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyrazines via palladium-catalyzed heteroannulation

A concise and efficient method for the preparation of 6,7-disubstituted-5H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyrazines via a palladium-catalyzed heteroannulation is reported. Both conventional and microwave heating were used to perform the reactions, with the latter showing dramatically improved results.     

Synthesis of New Difurocoumarins

5,7-Dihydroxy-4-methyl- and 5,7-dihydroxy-4-trifluoromethylcoumarins are starting compounds in the synthesis of new 10-methyl-8H-difuro[2,3-f;2,3-h]-8-ones and 10-trifluoromethyl-8H-difuro-[2,3-f;2,3-h]chromen-8-ones with high yields.     

Synthesis of novel 5,6-substituted furo[2,3-d]pyrimidines via Pd-catalyzed cyclization of alkynylpyrimidinols with aryl iodides

A flexible method for the synthesis of 5,6-disubstituted furo[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives is described. The key step is a palladium-catalyzed arylative cyclization of alkynylpyrimidinols with various aryl iodides, which gave the title compounds in 36-75% yield.     

Kinetic resolution of heterocyclic amines by reaction with optically active acid chlorides. The effect of reaction conditions on the diastereoselectivity of acylation of (±)-3-methyl-2,3-dihydro-4H-1,4-benzoxazine

The influence of the reaction conditions (solvent, base) on the diastereoselectivity of acylation of (±)-3-methyl-2,3-dihydro-4H-1,4-benzoxazine with (S)-naproxen and N-tosyl-(S)-proline chlorides was studied. The highest diastereoselectivity was observed for the reaction carried out in benzene in the presence of aliphatic tertiary amines.     

Effects of Alkali Metal Doping and γ-Irradiation on the Crystallization Kinetics of the Glass Ag7I4VO4

The crystallization kinetics of the γ-irradiated and the unirradiated glass Ag7I4VO4 was studied dynamically by means of DTA, and isothermally via electrical conductivity measurements. The influence of doping with alkali metal ions (Li+, Na+, K+, Rb+ or Cs+) on the crystallization process in the glass was also investigated. The results showed that the rate of crystallization depends on the nature of the added metal ion and on the crystallization growth mechanism. The latter is a two-dimensional process for both the pure and the alkali metal-doped glasses. The effects of irradiation and additive ions on the crystallization process are discussed. Silver (I)-promoted asymmetric halohydrin reaction of chiral N-enoyl-2-oxazolidinones: scope and limitations

The halohydrin reaction of chiral N-enoyl-2-oxazolidinones 1 by halogen (Br₂/I₂) and water were efficiently carried out in aqueous organic solvent promoted by silver(I) with high anti- and regioselectivity and moderate to good diastereoselectivities. The alkenoyl, cinnamoyl and electron-deficient cinnamoyl substrates smoothly underwent bromohydrin reaction in aqueous acetone but no iodohydrin reaction, where as electron-rich cinnamoyl substrates preferred to undergo iodohydrin reaction in aqueous acetone with moderate diastereoselectivity and enhanced diastereoselectivity was observed in aqueous THF.     

Studies on the Chemistry of Thienoannelated O , N - and S , N -Containing Heterocycles, 28 [1]. Synthesis of Imidazo[1,5- d ]thieno[2,3- b ][1,4]thiazine Derivatives as GABA -Receptor Ligands

Summary.  GABA-receptor-ligands are still very interesting in drug-development. Usually benzodiazepines are used in the treatment but they have serious side-effects. Thus, a recently synthesized quioxaline derivative which showed reduced side-effects in an animal model was used as a model-substance. The cyclus was modified to optimize the pharmacological profile. Accordingly, a series of imidazo-thieno-thiazines was synthesized starting from 5-acetyl-2-chloro-3-nitrothiophene to yield 6-ethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-thieno[2,3-b][1,4]thiazine-2-one. Reaction with potassium tert-butoxide and diethylchlorophosphate gave an intermediate, which resulted in the desired ring system after adding the corresponding isocyanides and potassium tert-butoxide. Polymorphism in mercury(I) selenite(IV): preparation, crystal structures of α-, β-and γ-Hg2SeO3, and thermal behavior of the α- and β-modification

Mercury(I) selenite(IV) is polymorphic and crystallizes at least in three modifications, named α-, β-and γ-Hg₂SeO₃. Polycrystalline β-Hg₂SeO₃ was prepared by precipitation of a concentrated mercurous nitrate solution with selenous acid. Hydrothermal treatment of the colorless β-Hg₂SeO₃ powder in demineralized water at 250°C (10 days) yields light-yellow single crystals of α-Hg₂SeO₃ which show the highest density of the three modifications. Colorless needle-shaped single crystals of β-Hg₂SeO₃ and very few single crystals of γ-Hg₂SeO₃ co-crystallize from strongly diluted Hg₂(NO₃)₂ and H₂SeO₃ solutions and were grown by a diffusion technique. All crystal structures were solved and refined from single crystal diffractometer data sets and are based on Hg₂²⁺ dumbbells and trigonal pyramidal SeO₃²⁻ anions as the main building units. A common structural feature of all modifications is the formation of open channels extending parallel to the shortest crystallographic axis. The non-bonding orbitals of the Se^IV atoms are stereochemically active and protrude into the channels. Upon heating in an open system under N₂ atmosphere, both α- and β-Hg₂SeO₃ decompose in a well-separated three-step mechanism. The first step (T > 250°C) involves disproportionation into elementary mercury and α-HgSeO₃ which at ca. 400°C subsequently transforms into β-HgSeO₃. The second step between T = 400 and 500°C is accompanied by a loss of Hg and SeO₂ and the formation of the basic salt Hg₃SeO₆. In the third step, at temperatures between T = 500° and 600°C, this material decomposes completely. Upon heating in a closed system (sealed silica capillaries), β-Hg₂SeO₃ transforms between 320-340°C into the more dense α-Hg₂SeO₃ which on further heating likewise converts into elementary mercury and β-HgSeO₃.     

Propanal in the Syntheses of Alkyl-substituted 3-Cyano-2-piperidone, 3-Cyano-2,5,6,7-tetrahydropyrindin-2(1H)-one, and 3-Cyanopyridine-2(1H)-thione

Condensation of propanal with cyanothioacetamide and morpholine gave 3-cyano-4-ethyl-5-methyl-6-morpholino-2-piperidone, the structure of which was studied by X-ray analysis. Reaction of propanal with cyanothioacetamides and cycloalkanone enamines gave 3-cyano-4-ethyl-2,5,6,7-tetrahydropyrindin-2(1H)-one and 3-cyano-4-ethyl-5,6-hexamethylenepyridine-2(1H)-thione.
