Kinematic Analysis of Robotic Bevel-Gear Trains: An Application of Network Model Approach

The network model approach for rigid and multi-rigid body systems developed recently [1,2] can also be used conveniently in formulating system equations or equations of motion of three-dimensional mechanical systems of interconnected rigid bodies. In this article, this method is further elaborated for establishing only the kinematics of spatial robotic bevel-gear trains. However the dynamic analysis of such systems using the same method is also possible and will be taken up in a future publication.     

Spektrochemische bestimmung der hauptbestandteile von Cu-Al-binärlegierungen mit der glimmentladungslampe als lichtquelle

The suitability of the glow discharge lamp for the analysis of both main components of a binary system Cu-Al has been investigated. The standard samples contained Cu and Al between 0.5 and 99.5%. Different calibration methods for these systems are discussed. Only the “method of binary ratios” yields a straight line for calibration within the entire concentration range. It is obtained if the logarithm of the intensity ratio is plotted against the logarithm of the concentration ratio of Cu and Al. Accurate and precise results are obtained if the discharge voltage and the gas pressure are kept constant for all samples. The correlation coefficient was found to be 0.99986 and the relative standard deviation for the determination of the concentration was about 0.06 · (1-w), where w is the concentration expressed as a fraction.     

A fully polynomial approximation algorithm for the 0–1 knapsack problem

A fully polynomial ?-approximation algorithm is developed for the 0–1 knapsack problem. The algorithm uses results of Lawler and Ibarra and Kim. A pseudo-polynomial dynamic programming algorithm is first suggested which solves the problem in O(nb log n) time and O(b) space.     

Multiobjective strategies in power systems planning

The rapidly changing decision environment in electrical systems planning calls for a new approach in planning procedures and mathematical tools. The method proposed in this study decomposes the decision making into two strata, one at the strategy setting, the other at the project selection level. For the strategy setting level, a multiobjective dynamic linear programming model is used in generating system expansion decision alternatives. The suitability of the modelling approach is considered from the various aspects such as congruence, flexibility, transparency, and accuracy.An application of the model to the Turkish electrical system is also presented, where expansion alternatives to the year 2000 are generated. Three criteria were observed: cost, environmental impact and risk.     

The uranyl-chloro-substituted benzoic acid-rhodamine b-benzene extraction system

Of the chloro-substituted benzoic acids, the 2-chloro and 2,4-dichloro compounds yield higher effective molar absorptivities than benzoic acid does in the Rhodamine B-benzene extractive spectrophotometric procedure for determination of uranium(VI). Carbonyl compounds (especially acetone) in the organic phase enhance the extraction of the ion associate. The stoichiometry of the complexes has been determined, and a method of computing the extraction constants of the ion-associates developed. A spectrophotometric method for determining uranium in the presence of interfering ions has been designed.     

First direct observation of the decay of neutral charmed particles produced by neutrinos in emulsion

Three examples of the production in emulsion by neutrinos and subsequent decay of neutral short-lived particles are reported. The flight times are ≈ 10^?13s, similar in order of magnitude to those previously determined for charged charmed particles in the same experiment.     

The flow due to a porous sphere embedded in a pure straining motion

Résumé Dans le présent travail on étudie les mouvements stationnaires lents d'un fluide visqueux en présence d'une sphère poreuse. Les mouvements considérés sont l'écoulement en présence d'une sphère poreuse dans une translation uniforme, dans une rotation uniforme, et dans un mouvement de déformation pure. On donne aussi une expression pour la viscosité de suspension des sphères poreuses. Elle montre que la viscosité de suspension des sphères poreuses est plus petite que celle des sphères rigides.
