Numerical simulations of falling leaves using a pseudo-spectral method with volume penalization

The dynamics of falling leaves is studied by means of numerical simulations. The two-dimensional incompressible Navier–Stokes equations, coupled with the equations governing solid body dynamics, are solved using a Fourier pseudo-spectral method with volume penalization to impose no-slip boundary conditions. Comparison with other numerical methods is made. Simulations performed for different values of the Reynolds number show that its decrease stabilizes the free fall motion.     

The Experimental Study on Wide-band Tunable All-fiber Acousto-optic Filter Based on Null Coupler

The fiber acousto-optic filter is fabricated successfully for the first time in China. The mode conversion is realized by the acoustic-wave induced perturbation. Excess loss of 0.1 dB and continuous tuning range between 1470 nm and 1580 nm are obtained. The polarization dependence of the filter is studied experimentally.     

Novel Lanthanide Complexes of Ciprofloxacin: Synthesis,Characterization, Crystal Structure and in vitro Antibacterial Activity Studies

Novel lanthanide coordination compounds with ciprofloxacin (CPFX), including eleven complexes Ln(CPFX)₂Cl(H₂O), (Ln=Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb; n = 7, 8, 9) and crystalline [Ce(CPFX)₂ (H₂O)₄] Cl (H₂O)_3.25 (C₂H₅‐OH)_0.25, were synthesized. The crystal is of triclinic space group Pi with a= 1.3865(2) nm, b = 1.3899(3) nm, c = 1.6505(2) nm, a = 92.73(1)°, β= 114.39(1)°, γ=115.55 (1)°, Z = 2 and R = 0.0449. FT‐IR, electronic spectroscopy and X‐ray diffraction were employed to show that the lanthanide ion, which displays an eight‐coordinate structure, is chelated by 3‐carboxyl and 4‐keto oxygen donors of CPFX and two six‐membered chelate rings are formed. Test of in vitro antibacterial activity against E. coli, P. aeruginosa and S. aureus indicated that the in vitro antibacterial activity of the ligand can be improved by complexation with Ce(III).     

Synthesis,Crystal Structure and Electrochemical Behavior of a Fe(II) Complex of 8-Mercaptoquinoline (Hmtq) with Trimethylphosphite Participation

The mononuclear complex Fe(II)(mtq)₂{P(OCH₃)₃}₂ (Hmtq = 8-Mercaptoquinoline) with mixed N-heterocyclic thiolato and phosphite ligands was synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography and cyclic voltammetric measurement. The title complex crystallizes in the triclinic space group P-1 with a = 8.929(4), b = 9.965(3), c = 16.913(11) Å, α = 76.21(10), β = 80.89(10), γ= 68.010(10)°, V = 1351.2(11) ų. The Fe(II) atom exhibits an elongated octahedral geometry composed of N₂S₂P₂ donors. The equatorial plane is made up of two cis-oriented N donors from the thiolato ligands and two cis-oriented monodentate P(OCH₃)₃ ligands. The apical sites are occupied by two trans-oriented S atoms from the mtq^? ligands. The thione form is predominant coordination mode of 8-mercaptoquinoline with the N and S donors bound to the Fe(II) to form five-membered chelate rings. The structural feature of the mononuclear Fe(II) complex with mixed phosphite and thiolate ligands is summarized.     

Chiral and water‐soluble poly(2‐oxazoline)s

We describe the synthesis and characterization of the first water‐soluble and chiral poly(2,4‐disubstituted‐2‐oxazoline)s. While poly(2,4‐dimethyl‐2‐oxazoline)s are water soluble up to 100 °C, aqueous solutions of poly(2‐ethyl‐4‐methly‐2‐oxazoline) exhibit a lower critical solution temperature. This is discussed in context with its constitutional isomers poly(2‐oxazoline)s and poly(2‐oxazine)s. Circular dichroism spectroscopy revealed strong Cotton effects, which are also responsive to temperature in aqueous solution. It is therefore hypothesized that structures, comparable to polyproline helices, are formed in aqueous solution. In contrast to polyproline, poly(2,4‐disubstituted‐2‐oxazoline)s are highly water soluble and therefore represent very interesting pseudo‐polypeptides that may be useful to develop responsive biomimetic biomaterials. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 脂质组成对硫辛酸脂质纳米粒的制备及其稳定性的影响

采用高压均质法制备硫辛酸(ALA)脂质纳米粒(ALA-NLC),确定了负载ALA的最佳体系。通过高效液相色谱、动态光散射、流变等测试研究了脂质成分、含量对ALA负载、ALA-NLC稳定性和分散液流变性质的影响,并用原子力显微镜观察了ALA-NLC的形貌。结果表明,脂质/ALA质量比在4.5∶1～6∶1之间,得到的脂质纳米粒分散均匀,颗粒规则;脂质中液态油脂的增加有利于保持ALA-NLC的粒径,储存稳定性和分散液的低粘度,并得到两个有望用于食品工业的ALA-NLC配方。     

Preconcentration and separation of trace Pd(II) and Pt(IV) with silica gel bonded by aminopropyl-benzoylazo-4-(2-pyridyl-azo)-resorcinol

This paper reports a simple and highly selective method for preconcentrating and separating of trace Pd(II) and Pt(IV) with silica gel bonded by aminopropyl-benzoylazo-4-(2-pyridy-lazo)-resorcinol (ABPR-SG). ABPR-SG is stable in solution from 6 mol/L HCl to pH 7.0 and in common organic solvents. The maximum adsorptive capacity of Pd(n) on ABPR-SG is 362 μmol/g. After preconcentration and separation by using ABPR-SG column, Pd(II) and Pt(IV) of μg/L level in artificial water samples can be measured reliably by common spedrophotometry. The maximum concentration factors of Pd(II) and Pt(IV) on ABPR-SG column are 143 and 125 respectively. The chromatographic column packed with ABPR-SG can be reused. The method is simple and efficient.
