Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Characterization of α-（1-Benzimidazolyl） -hypnone Cobalt（Ⅱ） Complex： [CoCl （ C7H5N2CH2COPh）4] Br

The crystal structure of [CoCl ( C7H5N2CH2COPh)4] Br has been determined by means of X-ray crystallography. The molecular structure consists of a discrete [CoCl ( C7H5N2CH2COPh)4] ^ cation and one Br^- anion, in the [CoCl ( C7H5N2CH2COPh)4]^ cation, the coordination geometry of the central Co atom is square-pyramidal with four tertiary N atoms of benzimidazole from four α-( benzimidazol-1-yl) -hypnone ligands in the basal position and one chloride anion in the apical position. In the solid state, [CoCl ( C7H5N2CH2COPh)4]^ and Br^- anion possess intermolecular and intramolecular interactions, which stabilize the crystal structure. The characterization of the title compound were also carried out by using elemeutal analysis, FTIR, UV spectrometries and TG-DSC.     

Adsorption of helical and saddle-shaped oligothiophenes on solid surface

The arrangement of oligothiophenes is essential for understanding the relationship between structure and properties particularly in the organic electronic field. The self-assembly behaviors of helical(TMS)2-[7]helicene(T1), naphthalene-cored double(TMS)2-[7]helicene(T2), and saddle-shaped cyclooctatetrathiophene(T3), its derivative α,α,α,α-tetraphenyl-cyclooctatetrathiophene(T4) on solid surface are firstly investigated by using a combination of scanning tunneling microscopy(STM) and density functional theory(DFT) calculation. 1,3,5-Tris(10-carboxydecyloxy)-benzene(TCDB) is selected to build flexible host networks to immobilize these oligothiophenes in order to capture their molecular adsorption images successfully. The observed monodisperse or polydisperse filling and long-range alignment of oligothiophenes are described based on the non-covalent interactions and commensurate structure between olihothiophene and cavity. We speculate that those molecularly defined alignments could lead to significantly understanding the application of such ordered monolayer in organic electronic devices.

Electrostatic Interaction between Two Planar Double Layers: A Further Extension to Langmuir's Method

A simple method for calculating the interaction force and interaction free energy per unit area between parallel flat plates with high surface potential in the case of constant surface potential and constant surface charge is presented. It is a supplement to previous works (Langmuir, 17: 2167 (2001) and J. Colloid Interface Sci., 241: 81 (2001)). Although this approximation is essentially from simplifying the nonlinear PB equation in the case of high surface potentials, these approximate expressions work quite well for small plate separations for all values of the surface potentials.
