New N-aryloxy-phthalimide derivatives. Synthesis,physico-chemical properties,and QSPR studies

Starting from N-hydroxyphthalimide 1 and the reactive fluoro- or chloro-nitroaryl derivatives 2, 3 and 4a-e (2-chloro-3,5-dinitropyridine; 3, NBD-chloride; 4a, 1-fluoro-2,4-dinitrobenzene; 4b, picryl chloride; 4c, 4-chloro-3,5-dinitrobenzotrifluoride; 4d, 2-chloro-3,5- dinitrobenzotrifluoride; 4e, 4-chloro-3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid) the corresponding N-(2-nitroaryloxy)-phthalimide derivatives 5a-e, or 6 and 7 were obtained and characterized by IR, UV-Vis ¹H-NMR and ¹³C-NMR spectroscopy. The TLC behavior and the hydrophobicity of these derivatives have been experimentally evaluated by R_M0 parameters (using RP-TLC). The experimental R_M0 parameters were compared with the calculated partition coefficient, log P. A QSPR study was also performed to establish possible correlations between the structure and physical properties (λ_max and R_M0) of compounds 5a-e, 6, and 7.      

Qualitative and quantitative analysis of gallic acid in Alchemilla vulgaris, Allium ursinum, Acorus calamus and Solidago virga-aurea by chip-electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and high performance liquid chromatography

This study presents the results obtained from qualitative and quantitative analysis of gallic acid from hydro-alcoholic extracts (methanol, ethanol) of plants from Plantae regnum. Plant qualitative analysis was performed using a novel mass spectrometric (MS) method based on fully automated chip-nanoelectrospray ionization (nanoESI) high capacity ion trap (HCT) while quantitative analysis was carried out by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). These methods were applied to Alchemilla vulgaris — common lady’s-mantle (aerial part), Allium ursinum — bear’s garlic (leaves), Acorus calamus — common sweet flag (roots), Solidago virga-aurea — goldenrod (aerial part). Obtained results indicated that methanol extracts (96%, 80%) have a gallic acid content ranging between 0.0011–0.0576 mg mL⁻¹ extract while the ethanol extracts (96%, 60%) exhibit a gallic acid concentration that varies between 0.0010–0.0182 mg mL⁻¹ extract.      

Ultra-low on-resistance high voltage (>600 V) SOI MOSFET with a reduced cell pitch

A low specific on-resistance (R S,on) silicon-on-insulator (SOI) trench MOSFET (metal-oxide-semiconductor-field-effect-transistor) with a reduced cell pitch is proposed.The lateral MOSFET features multiple trenches:two oxide trenches in the drift region and a trench gate extended to the buried oxide (BOX) (SOI MT MOSFET).Firstly,the oxide trenches increase the average electric field strength along the x direction due to lower permittivity of oxide compared with that of Si;secondly,the oxide trenches cause multiple-directional depletion,which improves the electric field distribution and enhances the reduced surface field (RESURF) effect in the SOI layer.Both of them result in a high breakdown voltage (BV).Thirdly,the oxide trenches cause the drift region to be folded in the vertical direction,leading to a shortened cell pitch and a reduced R S,on.Fourthly,the trench gate extended to the BOX further reduces R S,on,owing to the electron accumulation layer.The BV of the MT MOSFET increases from 309 V for a conventional SOI lateral double diffused metal-oxide semiconductor (LDMOS) to 632 V at the same half cell pitch of 21.5 μm,and R S,on decreases from 419 m · cm 2 to 36.6 m · cm 2.The proposed structure can also help to dramatically reduce the cell pitch at the same breakdown voltage.     

Essential points of conformal vector fields

An essential point of a conformal vector field ξ$\xi$ on a conformal manifold (M,c)$(M,c)$ is a point around which the local flow of ξ$\xi$ preserves no metric in the conformal class c$c$. It is well-known that a conformal vector field vanishes at each essential point. In this note we show that essential points are isolated. This is a generalization to higher dimensions of the fact that the zeros of a holomorphic function are isolated. As an application, we show that every connected component of the zero set of a conformal vector field is totally umbilical.     

CaL-B a highly selective biocatalyst for the kinetic resolution of furylbenzthiazole-2-yl-ethanols and acetates

A highly stereoselective enzymatic kinetic resolution of novel various substituted racemic furylbenzthiazole-2-yl-ethanols and their acetates has been developed. Both processes, the enzymatic acylation of the racemic alcohols and the enzymatic methanolysis of racemic acetates yielded highly enantiomerically enriched (ee >98%) resolution product, when CaL-B was used as a biocatalyst in acetonitrile. The absolute configuration of the obtained (R)-(+)-1-(5-(4-chlorobenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)furan-2-yl)ethanol was determined by a detailed ¹H NMR study of rac- and (+)-1-(5-(4-chlorobenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)furan-2-yl)ethanol Mosher derivatives.     

Symmetries of Contact Metric Manifolds

We study the Lie algebra of infinitesimal isometries on compact Sasakian and K-contact manifolds. On a Sasakian manifold which is not a space form or 3-Sasakian, every Killing vector field is an infinitesimal automorphism of the Sasakian structure. For a manifold with K-contact structure, we prove that there exists a Killing vector field of constant length which is not an infinitesimal automorphism of the structure if and only if the manifold is obtained from the Konishi bundle of a compact pseudo-Riemannian quaternion-Kähler manifold after changing the sign of the metric on a maximal negative distribution. We also prove that nonregular Sasakian manifolds are not homogeneous and construct examples with cohomogeneity one. Using these results we obtain in the last section the classification of all homogeneous Sasakian manifolds.     

Artin's L-functions and one-dimensional characters

Let K/Q be a finite Galois extension with the Galois group G, let χ₁,…,χr be the irreducible non-trivial characters of G, and let A be the C-algebra generated by the Artin L-functions L(s,χ₁),…,L(s,χr). Let B be the subalgebra of A generated by the L-functions corresponding to induced characters of non-trivial one-dimensional characters of subgroups of G. We prove: (1) B is of Krull dimension r and has the same quotient field as A; (2) B=A iff G is M-group; (3) the integral closure of B in A equals A iff G is quasi-M-group.     

EPR‐Based Approach for the Localization of Paramagnetic Metal Ions in Biomolecules

Metal ions play an important role in the catalysis and folding of proteins and oligonucleotides. Their localization within the three‐dimensional fold of such biomolecules is therefore an important goal in understanding structure–function relationships. A trilateration approach for the localization of metal ions by means of long‐range distance measurements based on electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) is introduced. The approach is tested on the Cu²⁺ center of azurin, and factors affecting the precision of the method are discussed.
