The aim of this paper is to study the stability of the characteristic vector field of a compact K-contact manifold with respect to the energy and volume functionals when we consider on the manifold a two-parameter variation of the metric. First of all, we multiply the metric in the direction of the characteristic vector field by a constant and then we change the metric by homotheties. We will study to what extent the results obtained in [V. Borrelli, Stability of the characteristic vector field of a Sasakian manifold, Soochow J. Math. 30 (2004) 283-292. Erratum on the article: Stability of the characteristic vector field of a Sasakian manifold, Soochow J. Math. 32 (2006) 179-180] for Sasakian manifolds are valid for a general K-contact manifold. Finally, as an example, we will study the stability of Hopf vector fields on Berger spheres when we consider homotheties of Berger metrics.  相似文献

We study the geometry and the periodic geodesics of a compact Lorentzian manifold that has a Killing vector field which is timelike somewhere. Using a compactness argument for subgroups of the isometry group, we prove the existence of one timelike non self-intersecting periodic geodesic. If the Killing vector field is nowhere vanishing, then there are at least two distinct periodic geodesics; as a special case, compact stationary manifolds have at least two periodic timelike geodesics. We also discuss some properties of the topology of such manifolds. In particular, we show that a compact manifold M admits a Lorentzian metric with a nowhere vanishing Killing vector field which is timelike somewhere if and only if M admits a smooth circle action without fixed points.  相似文献

A vector field on Riemannian manifold is called conformal Killing if it generates oneparameter group of conformal transformation. The class of conformal Killing symmetric tensor fields of an arbitrary rank is a natural generalization of the class of conformal Killing vector fields, and appears in different geometric and physical problems. In this paper, we prove that a trace-free conformal Killing tensor field is identically zero if it vanishes on some hypersurface. This statement is a basis of the theorem on decomposition of a symmetric tensor field on a compact manifold with boundary to a sum of three fields of special types. We also establish triviality of the space of trace-free conformal Killing tensor fields on some closed manifolds.  相似文献

It is known that a conformal vector field on a compact Kaehler manifold is a Killing vector field. In this paper, we are interested in finding conditions under which a conformal vector field on a non-compact Kaehler manifold is Killing. First we prove that a harmonic analytic conformal vector field on a 2n-dimensional Kaehler manifold (n ≠ 2) of constant nonzero scalar curvature is Killing. It is also shown that on a 2n-dimensional Kaehler Einstein manifold (n > 1) an analytic conformal vector field is either Killing or else the Kaehler manifold is Ricci flat. In particular, it follows that on non-flat Kaehler Einstein manifolds of dimension greater than two, analytic conformal vector fields are Killing.  相似文献

We investigate new Clairaut conditions for anti-invariant submersions from Sasakian and Kenmotsu manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds. We prove that there do not exist Clairaut anti-invariant submersion admitting vertical Reeb vector field in case of the total manifold is Sasakian. Several illustrative examples are also included.  相似文献

We study harmonic Riemannian maps on locally conformal Kaehler manifolds (lcK manifolds). We show that if a Riemannian holomorphic map between lcK manifolds is harmonic, then the Lee vector field of the domain belongs to the kernel of the Riemannian map under a condition. When the domain is Kaehler, we prove that a Riemannian holomorphic map is harmonic if and only if the lcK manifold is Kaehler. Then we find similar results for Riemannian maps between lcK manifolds and Sasakian manifolds. Finally, we check the constancy of some maps between almost complex (or almost contact) manifolds and almost product manifolds.  相似文献

We study projective curvature tensor in K-contact and Sasakian manifolds. We prove that (1) if a K-contact manifold is quasi projectively flat then it is Einstein and (2) a K-contact manifold is ξ-projectively flat if and only if it is Einstein Sasakian. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a K-contact manifold to be quasi projectively flat and φ-projectively flat are obtained. We also prove that for a (2n + 1)-dimensional Sasakian manifold the conditions of being quasi projectively flat, φ-projectively flat and locally isometric to the unit sphere S 2n+1 (1) are equivalent. Finally, we prove that a compact φ-projectively flat K-contact manifold with regular contact vector field is a principal S 1-bundle over an almost Kaehler space of constant holomorphic sectional curvature 4.  相似文献

We prove that it is possible to associate to each infinitesimal model on a Euclidean vector space V a locally homogeneous Riemannian manifold. As an application, we characterize, in the space of the algebraic curvature tensors on V, the orbits which can occur for locally homogeneous Riemannian manifolds.  相似文献

If the sectional curvatures of plane sections containing the characteristic vector field of a contact metric manifold M are non-vanishing, then we prove that a second order parallel tensor on M is a constant multiple of the associated metric tensor. Next, we prove for a contact metric manifold of dimension greater than 3 and whose Ricci operator commutes with the fundamental collineation that, if its Weyl conformal tensor is harmonic, then it is Einstein. We also prove that, if the Lie derivative of the fundamental collineation along the characteristic vector field on a contact metric 3-manifold M satisfies a cyclic condition, then M is either Sasakian or locally isometric to certain canonical Lie-groups with a left invariant metric. Next, we prove that if a three-dimensional Sasakian manifold admits a non-Killing projective vector field, it is of constant curvature 1. Finally, we prove that a conformally recurrent Sasakian manifold is locally isometric to a unit sphere.  相似文献

We prove that a contact form with riemannian characteristic flow is K-contact. We also present a purely riemannian hypothesis which implies the existence of a K-contact form with a prescribed unit Killing vector field as characteristic vector field. Our hypothesis is weaker than that previously presented by Hatakeyama, Ogawa and Tanno.  相似文献

In this paper we study a class of K-contact manifolds, namely -conformally flat K-contact manifolds and we show that a compact -conformally flat K-contact manifold with regular contact vector field is a principal S1-bundle over an almost Kaehler space of constant holomorphic sectional curvature.  相似文献

We study compact toric strict locally conformally Kähler manifolds. We show that the Kodaira dimension of the underlying complex manifold is \(-\infty \), and that the only compact complex surfaces admitting toric strict locally conformally Kähler metrics are the diagonal Hopf surfaces. We also show that every toric Vaisman manifold has lcK rank 1 and is isomorphic to the mapping torus of an automorphism of a toric compact Sasakian manifold.  相似文献

On a Riemannian manifold, a solution of the Killing equation is an infinitesimal isometry. Since the Killing equation is overdetermined, infinitesimal isometries do not exist in general. A completely determined prolongation of the Killing equation is a PDE on the bundle of 1-jets of vector fields. Restricted to a curve, this becomes an ODE that generalizes the Jacobi equation. A solution of this ODE is called an infinitesimal isometry along the curve, which we show to be an infinitesimal rigid variation of the curve. We define Killing transport to be the associated linear isometry between fibers of the bundle along the curve, and show that it is parallel translation for a connection on the bundle related to the Riemannian connection. Restricting to dimension two, we study the holonomy of this connection, prove the Gauss–Bonnet theorem by means of Killing transport, and determine the criteria for local existence of infinitesimal isometries.  相似文献

In this paper we study Einstein-Weyl structures in the framework of contact metric manifolds. First, we prove that a complete K-contact manifold admitting both the Einstein-Weyl structures W ± = (g, ±ω) is Sasakian. Next, we show that a compact contact metric manifold admitting an Einstein-Weyl structure is either K-contact or the dual field of ω is orthogonal to the Reeb vector field, provided the Reeb vector field is an eigenvector of the Ricci operator. We also prove that a contact metric manifold admitting both the Einstein-Weyl structures and satisfying is either K-contact or Einstein. Finally, a couple of results on contact metric manifold admitting an Einstein-Weyl structure W = (g, f η) are presented.   相似文献

On an n-dimensional compact, orientable, connected Riemannian manifold, we consider the curvature operator acting on the space of covariant traceless symmetric 2-tensors. We prove that, if the curvature operator is negative, then the manifold admits no nonzero conformally Killing p-forms for p = 1, 2, …, n ? 1. On the other hand, we prove that the dimension of the vector space of conformally Killing p-forms on an n-dimensional compact simply-connected conformally flat Riemannian manifold (M,g) is not zero.  相似文献

Given a compatible vector field on a compact connected almost-complex manifold, we show in this article that the multiplicities of eigenvalues among the zero point set of this vector field have intimate relations. We highlight a special case of our result and reinterpret it as a vanishing-type result in the framework of the celebrated Atiyah–Bott–Singer localization formula. This new point of view, via the Chern–Weil theory and a strengthened version of Bott's residue formula, can lead to an obstruction to Killing real holomorphic vector fields on compact Hermitian manifolds in terms of a curvature integral.  相似文献

In this paper we give a generalisation of Kostant’s Theorem about theA x -operator associated to a Killing vector fieldX on a compact Riemannian manifold. Kostant proved (see [6], [5] or [7]) that in a compact Riemannian manifold, the (1, 1) skew-symmetric operatorA x =L x x associated to a Killing vector fieldX lies in the holonomy algebra at each point. We prove that in a complete non-compact Riemannian manifold (M, g) theA x -operator associated to a Killing vector field, with finite global norm, lies in the holonomy algebra at each point. Finally we give examples of Killing vector fields with infinite global norms on non-flat manifolds such thatA x does not lie in the holonomy algebra at any point.  相似文献

On a slit tangent bundle endowed with a Riemannian metric of Sasaki–Finsler type, we introduce two vector fields of horizontal Liouville type and prove that these vector fields are Killing if and only if the base Finsler manifold is of positive constant curvature. In the special case of one of them, we show that if it is Killing vector field then the base manifold is Einstein–Finsler manifold.  相似文献

We observe that the class of metric f–K-contact manifolds, which naturally contains that of K-contact manifolds, is closed under forming mapping tori of automorphisms of the structure. We show that the de Rham cohomology of compact metric f–K-contact manifolds naturally splits off an exterior algebra, and relate the closed leaves of the characteristic foliation to its basic cohomology.  相似文献
