Analogue Models of and for Gravity

Condensed matter systems, such as acoustics in flowing fluids, light in moving dielectrics, or quasiparticles in a moving superfluid, can be used to mimic aspects of general relativity. More precisely these systems (and others) provide experimentally accessible models of curved-space quantum field theory. As such they mimic kinematic aspects of general relativity, though typically they do not mimic the dynamics. Although these analogue models are thereby limited in their ability to duplicate all the effects of Einstein gravity they nevertheless are extremely important—they provide black hole analogues (some of which have already been seen experimentally) and lead to tests of basic principles of curved-space quantum field theory. Currently these tests are still in the realm of gedanken-experiments, but there are plausible candidate models that should lead to laboratory experiments in the not too distant future.     

Surfaces of Constant Mean Curvature Bounded by Two Planar Curves

In this paper we study constant mean curvature compact surfaces with two Jordan curves in parallel planes as boundary and we investigate the point at which the surface inherits the symmetries of its boundary.

On the domain dependence of solutions to the compressible Navier–Stokes equations of a barotropic fluid

We prove a general compactness result for the solution set of the compressible Navier–Stokes equations with respect to the variation of the underlying spatial domain. Among various corollaries, we then prove a general existence theorem for the system in question with no restrictions on smoothness of the spatial domain. Surface grating formation and erasing on a-Se films

Surface relief formation at holographic recording on amorphous selenium films was demonstrated and investigated. The presence of this optical phase modulation component is essential for ensuring significant, stable and erasable optical recording in a-Se films at 290–320 K temperatures, where conventional photodarkening was known as insignificant and unstable. Photocrystallization can only be observed in super-exposed a-Se films at the given experimental conditions of hologram recording. Erasing behavior of surface relief gratings under heat treatment was also investigated in order to reveal further details of the mechanism. Photoinduced structural transformations within the amorphous phase, connected to local ordering under the condition of light-induced fluidity, are proposed as an explanation for the relief formation and erasing. The observed reversible optical recording process may be useful for the various optoelectronic applications of photoconductive a-Se layers.  介绍了兰州重力加速器冷却储存环实验环二极磁铁积分长线圈测磁装置的构成，描述了实验环二极铁的分散性测量、横向分布测量、传递函数等测量内容及测量方法。实验环二极铁采用不断地加减硅钢铁片垫补和加调整线圈电流的方法来调整二极磁铁的有效长度来改变分散性。通过垫补和测量，二极磁铁的分散性在优化磁场时达到±2×10^-4。同时给出了二极铁的横向分布和传递函数的测量结果。对二极铁的设计和加工进行了修正。     

Isometries of the Dirichlet space among the composition operators

We show that every composition operator which is an isometry of the Dirichlet space is induced by a univalent full map of the disk into itself that fixes the origin. This is an analogue of the Hardy space result for inner functions due to Nordgren. The proof relies on the Stone-Weierstrass theorem and the Riesz representation theorem.
