First-principles theory of correlated transport through nanojunctions

We report the inclusion of electron-electron correlation in the calculation of transport properties within an ab initio scheme. A key step is the reformulation of Landauer's approach in terms of an effective transmittance for the interacting electron system. We apply this framework to analyze the effect of short-range interactions on Pt atomic wires and discuss the coherent and incoherent correction to the mean-field approach.     

Adsorption of citric acid from dilute aqueous solutions by hydroxyapatite

The role of citric acid in the demineralization of dental enamel, which is mainly constituted by hydroxyapatite, is important for periodontal regeneration and in the conditioning of enamel or dentin for bonding restorative resins. The adsorption of citric acid from aqueous solutions onto synthetic hydroxyapatite at 278, 288, 298, and 308 K and pH 4.8 has been studied by means of UV spectroscopy. The adsorption reaction, which takes place by an interaction between phosphate groups and citrate anions at the solid-solution interface, yields an adsorbate-adsorbent complex of high stability. The adsorption isotherms fit the Langmuirian shape. The proposed adsorption model, where citrate species interact in a bidentate manner (one citrate ion links two phosphate sites), is coherent with the experimental data. The activation standard heat and activation standard entropy were calculated. All the thermodynamic and kinetic parameters were in concordance with the adsorption reaction proposed in this work.     

Modelling and simulation of an agricultural tracked vehicle

A new approach to the dynamic modelling of tracked vehicles is proposed in this paper, resulting in a 3D, 8 degrees of freedom dynamic model of an agricultural tracked vehicle, having the two independently applied sprocket torques as input variables. The main features of the approach are a new dynamic model of the shear displacement and the adoption of an innovative modelling and simulation environment: MOSES, based on Object-Oriented tools and techniques. Simulation results are reported for a qualitative validation of the model.     

J/psi production in Indium-Indium collisions at 158 GeV/nucleon

The NA60 experiment studies muon pair production at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. In this Letter we report on a precision measurement of J/psi in In-In collisions. We have studied the J/psi centrality distribution, and we have compared it with the one expected if absorption in cold nuclear matter were the only active suppression mechanism. For collisions involving more than approximately 80 participant nucleons, we find that an extra suppression is present. This result is in qualitative agreement with previous Pb-Pb measurements by the NA50 experiment, but no theoretical explanation is presently able to coherently describe both results.     

Topics on the preparation of HTSC via solid state reaction and melting process

The problems of the preparation of High Temperature Superconductors by sintering and melting are examined. Results of the thermal properties of the total substitution of Yttrium by a rare earth element are reported. The process of fabrication of HTSC after high temperature decomposition is indicated. The results of first characterisation are also reported.

Der Prozess einer Herstellung von HT-Supraleitern nach thermischer Zersetzung im Bereich hoher Temperatur wird beschrieben, und es werden Resultate erster Charakterisierungen mitgeteilt.
