Functionalized carbon nanotubes (F‐CNTs) were synthesized through the nucleophilic substitution reaction between four‐armed star poly(d ‐lactide) (4PDLA) and acryl chloride of carbon nanotubes and were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The results indicated that the 4PDLA was successfully grafted onto carbon nanotubes, and it contained 45.5 wt% of 4PDLA. Poly(l ‐lactide) (PLLA) nanocomposites with different F‐CNTs content were prepared by solution casting. Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy results showed that F‐CNTs were uniformly dispersed in the nanocomposites. Crystallization behavior and crystal structure of PLLA nanocomposites were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing microscope and X‐ray diffraction. The results found that poly(lactide) stereocomplex crystal could be formed between PLLA and F‐CNTs. F‐CNTs played different roles in the process of solution casting and melting crystallization. Polarizing microscope also revealed that crystallization temperature had a significant effect on the nucleation and spherulites growth of PLLA. Thermal stability and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were also investigated by thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis and tensile testing. These results demonstrated that the addition of F‐CNTs obviously improved thermal stability and tensile strength of PLLA. The results showed that PLLA/F‐CNTs would have potential values in engineering fields. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

An investigation of the cooperative effects of plasticizer (PEG) and nucleation agent (TMC‐306) on stereocomplex‐type poly(lactide acid) formation and crystallization behaviors between poly(L‐lactide acid) (PLLA) and poly(D‐lactide acid) (PDLA) was conducted. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis indicated that exclusive stereocomplex‐type poly(lactide acid) (sc‐PLA) crystallites without any homocrystallites poly(lactide acid) (hc‐PLA) did form by incorporation of PEG, TMC‐306, or both at a processing temperature higher than the melting temperature of sc‐PLA (around 230°C). The non‐isothermal and isothermal crystallization kinetics showed that PEG and TMC‐306 could independently accelerate the crystallization rate of sc‐PLA. The crystallization peak temperature and crystallization rate of sc‐PLA were significantly improved by the presence of PEG and TMC‐306. The influence of PEG and TMC‐306 on the morphologies of sc‐PLA was also investigated using polarized optical microscopy (POM). Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this study, several asymmetric poly(L‐lactide)/poly(D‐lactide) (PLLA/PDLA) blends were prepared by adding small amounts of PDLA with different structures into linear PLLA matrix. The effect of PDLA on rheological behavior, crystallization behavior, nucleation efficiency and spherulite growth of PLLA was investigated. Rheological results indicated that PLLA/PDLA blends showed solid‐like viscoelastic behavior at low temperature (<200°C), and the cross‐linking density of PLLA/PDLA melt at 180°C followed the order: PLLA/6PDLA > PLLA/L‐PDLA > PLLA/3PDLA > PLLA/4PDLA. No‐isotherm and isotherm crystallization results indicated that the crystallization capacity of PLLA/PDLA blends was strongly related to the PDLA structure, crystallization temperature and thermal treatment temperature. Furthermore, the dimension of crystal growth during isotherm crystallization presented the obvious dependent on the PDLA structure. The nucleation efficiency of sc‐crystallites in the blends and spherulite density during isothermal crystallization were also studied. Nucleation efficiency of sc‐crystallites in the PLLA/S‐PDLA blends showed the obvious dependent on thermal treatment temperature with respect to PLLA/L‐PDLA, and nucleation efficiency sc‐crystallites in the PLLA/S‐PDLA blends first decreased and then increased as the thermal treatment temperature increased. Spherulite density of PLLA/PDLA blends was also related to thermal treatment temperature and the PDLA structure. This study has discussed the temperature dependence of the stereocomplex networks between PLLA and PDLA with different structure, and then its consequential influence on rheology and crystallization capacity of PLLA, which would provide the theoretical direction for PLA processing. The blends of poly(1,3‐trimethylene carbonate‐b‐(l ‐lactide‐ran‐glycolide)) (PTLG) with poly(d ‐lactide) (PDLA) were prepared via solution‐casting method using CH2Cl2 as solvent. The poly(l ‐lactide) (PLLA) segments of PTLG with PDLA chain constructed as stereocomplex structures and growth stereocomplex crystals of PLA (sc‐PLA). The effects of sc‐PLA crystals on thermal behavior, mechanical properties, thermal decomposition of the PTLG/PDLA blends were investigated, respectively. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) results showed that the total crystallinity of the PTLG/PDLA blends was increased with the PDLA content increasing. Heterogeneous nucleation of sc‐PLA crystals induced crystallization of the PLLA segments in PTLG. The crystallization temperature of samples shifted to 107.5°C for the PTLG/PDLA‐20 blends compared with that of the PTLG matrix, and decreased the half‐time of crystallization. The mechanical measurement results indicated that the tensile strength of the PTLG/PDLA blends was improved from 21.1 MPa of the PTLG matrix to 39.5 MPa of PTLG/PDLA‐20 blends. The results of kinetics of thermal decomposition of the PTLG/PDLA blends by TGA showed that the apparent activation energy of the PTLG/PDLA blends was increased from 59.1 to 72.1 kJ/mol with the increasing of the PDLA content from 3 wt% to 20 wt%, which indicated the enhancement of thermal stability of the PTLG/PDLA blends by addition of PDLA. Furthermore, the biocompatibility of the PTLG/PDLA blends cultured with human adipose‐derived stem cells was evaluated by CCK‐8 and live/dead staining. The experiment results proved the PTLG/PDLA blends were a kind of biomaterial with excellent physical performances with very low cytotoxicity.  相似文献

Linear and four‐armed poly(l ‐lactide)‐block‐poly(d ‐lactide) (PLLA‐b‐PDLA) block copolymers are synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of d ‐lactide on the end hydroxyl of linear and four‐armed PLLA prepolymers. DSC results indicate that the melting temperature and melting enthalpies of poly (lactide) stereocomplex in the copolymers are obviously lower than corresponding linear and four‐armed PLLA/PDLA blends. Compared with the four‐armed PLLA‐b‐PDLA copolymer, the similar linear PLLA‐b‐PDLA shows higher melting temperature (212.3 °C) and larger melting enthalpy (70.6 J g?1). After these copolymers blend with additional neat PLAs, DSC, and WAXD results show that the stereocomplex formation between free PLA molecular chain and enantiomeric PLA block is the major stereocomplex formation. In the linear copolymer/linear PLA blends, the stereocomplex crystallites (sc) as well as homochiral crystallites (hc) form in the copolymer/PLA cast films. However, in the four‐armed copolymer/linear PLA blends, both sc and hc develop in the four‐armed PLLA‐b‐PDLA/PDLA specimen, which means that the stereocomplexation mainly forms between free PDLA molecule and the inside PLLA block, and the outside PDLA block could form some microcrystallites. Although the melting enthalpies of stereocomplexes in the blends are smaller than that of neat copolymers, only two‐thirds of the molecular chains participate in the stereocomplex formation, and the crystallization efficiency strengthens. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The nucleation and crystallization of two types of strongly segregated poly(lactide)-block-polyethylene diblock copolymers with an approximate 50/50 composition has been investigated. One material contains an amorphous PLDA block (PLDA-b-PE) and the other contains a semicrystalline PLLA block (PLLA-b-PE). The overall isothermal crystallization rate of the PLLA block was slowed down as compared to homo-PLLA by the covalently bonded PE chains that were molten at the PLLA crystallization temperatures. This crystallization rate depression of the PLLA block produces a coincident crystallization process when PLLA-b-PE is cooled down from the melt at rates larger than 2 °C/min. The overall crystallization rate of the PE block is faster when it is covalently bonded to previously crystallized PLLA than when it is attached to a rubbery PDLA block, this results from a nucleation effect of PLLA on the PE block. Polarized Light Optical Microscopy (PLOM) confirmed the confined nature of the crystallization process within lamellar microdomains for both diblock copolymers, since neither PLLA nor PE are capable of breaking out and spherulites can not be formed.  相似文献

Poly(L‐lactide) (PLLA) composites with TiO2‐g‐poly(D‐lactide) (PDLA), which was synthesized by surface‐initiated opening ring polymerization with TiO2 as initiator and Sn(Oct)2 as catalyst, were prepared by solution casting. The synthesized TiO2‐g‐PDLA was characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and dynamic laser scattering (DLS), showing larger size corresponding to that of TiO2. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements were further carried out and indicated that PDLA was grafted onto TiO2 through covalent bond. For PLLA/TiO2‐g‐PDLA composites, the stereocomplex crystallites were formed between PDLA grafted on the surface of TiO2 and the PLLA matrix, which was determined by FT‐IR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X‐ray diffractometer (XRD). The influence of stereocomplex crystallites on the rheological behavior of PLLA/TiO2‐g‐PDLA was investigated by rheometer, which showed greater improvement of rheological properties compared to that of PLLA/TiO2 composites especially with a percolation content of TiO2‐g‐PDLA between 3 wt%–5 wt%. The crystallization and melting behavior of PLLA/TiO2‐g‐PDLA composites were studied by DSC under different thermal treatment conditions. The formed PLA stereocomplex network acted as nucleating agents and a special interphase on the functional surface of TiO2, which resulted in imperfect PLLA crystal with lower melting temperature. When the thermal treatment was close to the melting temperature of PLA stereocomplex, the crystallinity approached to the maximum. The isothermal crystallization study by polarizing microscope (POM) indicated that stereocomplex network presented stronger nucleation capacity than TiO2‐g‐PDLA. The crystallization kinetics of biodegradable poly(butylene succinate‐co‐adipate) (PBS/A) copolyester was investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy (POM), respectively. The Avrami and Ozawa equations were used to analyze the isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics, respectively. By using wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), PBS/A was identified to have the same crystal structure with that of PBS. The spherulitic growth rates of PBS/A measured in isothermal conditions are very well comparable with those measured by nonisothermal procedures (cooling rates ranged from 0.5 to 15 °C/min). The kinetic data were examined with the Hoffman–Lauritzen nucleation theory. The observed spherulites of PBS/A with different shapes and textures strongly depend on the crystallization temperatures. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, a novel nucleating agent (NA) based on substituted‐aryl phosphate salts was introduced into poly(L‐Lactide) (PLLA). The nonisothermal and isothermal crystallization behaviors of nucleated PLLA samples were investigated through differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), wide angle X‐ray diffraction, and polarized optical microscope (POM). Furthermore, the effect of annealing treatment on the cold crystallization behaviors of nucleated samples was also investigated. The results show that the crystallization of PLLA, whether for the melt crystallization (including nonisothermal and isothermal crystallization process) or for the cold crystallization (including the cold crystallization occurring during the DSC heating process and during the annealing process), is greatly dependent upon the content of NA. At relatively lower NA content (≤0.1 wt%), the nucleation effect of NA is inconspicuous, however, at higher NA content (≥0.2 wt%), it exhibits great nucleation effect for the crystallization of PLLA. Further results show that the double endothermic peak of PLLA depends on the temperature applied for the crystallization. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The effect of dilithium cis‐4‐cyclohexene‐1,2‐dicarboxylate (CHDA‐Li) as a novel and efficient nucleating agent on the crystallization behaviors and spherulitic morphology of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) as well as non‐isothermal crystallization kinetics of the nucleated PLA was studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry and polarized light microscopy. The results show that CHDA‐Li serves as a good nucleating agent to accelerate the crystallization rate of PLA. The nucleation ability of CHDA‐Li is superior to octamethylenedicarboxylic dibenzoylhydrazide. With the incorporation of CHDA‐Li, the number of the spherulites increases, and the size decreases significantly. The non‐isothermal crystallization kinetics of the nucleated PLA can be well described by Jeziorny's and Mo's models. The activation energies (ΔE) of non‐isothermal crystallization were calculated by Kissinger's and Friedman's methods. The crystallization rate of PLA/0.5 wt% CHDA‐Li sample is faster than that of PLA/0.2 wt% CHDA‐Li sample, while the ΔE of the former is lower than that of the latter. The thermal properties, crystallization, and morphology of amphiphilic poly(D ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(N,N‐dimethylamino‐2‐ethyl methacrylate) (PDLA‐b‐PDMAEMA) and poly (L ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(N,N‐dimethylamino‐2‐ethyl methacrylate) (PLLA‐b‐PDMAEMA) copolymers were studied and compared to those of the corresponding poly(lactide) homopolymers. Additionally, stereocomplexation of these copolymers was studied. The crystallization kinetics of the PLA blocks was retarded by the presence of the PDMAEMA block. The studied copolymers were found to be miscible in the melt and the glassy state. The Avrami theory was able to predict the entire crystallization range of the PLA isothermal overall crystallization. The melting points of PLDA/PLLA and PLA/PLA‐b‐PDMAEMA stereocomplexes were higher than those formed by copolymer mixtures. This indicates that the PDMAEMA block is influencing the stability of the stereocomplex structures. For the low molecular weight samples, the stereocomplexes particles exhibited a conventional disk‐shape structure and, for high molecular weight samples, the particles displayed unusual star‐like shape morphology. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Block copolymers create various types of nano‐structures, e. g., spheres, rods, cubes, and lamellae. This review discloses the dynamic macromolecular organization of block copolymers comprising poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) and poly(oxyethylene) (PEG) that allows to simulate elaborate biological systems. The block copolymers, AB‐ (PLLA‐PEG) and ABA‐type (PLLA‐PEG‐PLLA), are synthesized by ordinary lactide polymerization to have a controlled block length. They are dispersed into an aqueous medium to prepare nano‐scale particles, consisting of hydrophobic PLLA and hydrophilic PEG in the core and shell, respectively. Then, the particles are placed on a flat substrate by the casting method. The particles are detected as discoids by AFM, having shrunk with loss of water. Heat‐treatment of these particles at 60°C (above Tg of PLLA) gives rise to a collapse into small fragments, which then aggregate into bands with nano‐size width and thickness. The PLLA‐PEG bands align parallel to each other, while the PLLA‐PEG‐PLLA bands form a characteristic network resembling the neuron system created in animal tissue. As analyzed by TEM diffraction, each is composed of α‐crystal of PLLA whose c‐axis (molecular axis) is perpendicular to the substrate surface. Based on this fact, a doubly twisted chain structure of PLLA is proposed in addition to a plausible mechanism for the self‐organization of the block copolymers. Derivatives of the PLLA‐PEG block copolymers can form far more interesting nano‐architectures. An equimolar mixture of enantiomeric copolymers, PLLA‐PEG‐PLLA and PDLA‐PEG‐PDLA, forms a hydrogel that is thermo‐responsive. The terminal‐modified poly(L ‐lactide)‐block‐polyoxyethylene monocinnamate (PLLA‐PEG‐C) forms a highly stabilized nanofiber by the photo‐reaction of the cinnamates placed in the outer layer of the nanobands.  相似文献

Using pyromelliticdianhydride (PMDA) and polyfunctional epoxy ether (PFE) as branching agent, long chain branching stereocomplex poly(L‐lactide)s and poly(D‐lactide)s was prepared by reactive processing, respectably. Then stereocomplex poly(lactide)s of long chain branching PLLA and PDLA (sc‐PLA/BA) was prepared by solution blending and its fabricated the vascular stents via 3D‐printing.The effects of branching structure on melt crystallization behavior of sc‐PLA/BA investigated by DSC. The influence of the branching agent content on the crystallization ability of samples shows a bell‐shaped relationship, there is a maximum point when the branching agent content is1.5 wt%. When the branching agent content is less than 1.5 wt%, the crystallization ability of the sample increased with the increasing of branching agent content. When the branching agent content exceeded than 1.5 wt%, the crystallization ability of the samples decreased with branching agent content increasing. Such behavior is as the linear PLA branched to dendrite configuration, the enrichment of segments around branching structure within branched chains promoted its nucleation. But the high degree of branching caused inter‐ or intrachians entanglement which obstructed the segments movement and growth into the crystals. The half‐time of crystallization (t1/2) of the samples decreased from 6 minutes for initial sc‐PLA/BA‐0 to 3 minutes of sc‐PLA/BA‐1.5 wt% at 163°C. POM results indicated that nucleation density of sc‐PLA/BA significantly increased with the branching agent increasing. Moreover, mechanical testing demonstrated that forming branching structure could be an effective modification of the mechanical properties for sc‐PLA, its tensile strength and modulus increases from 57.3 MPa and 2.02 GPa to 70.4 MPa and 3.31 GPa, respectively. TGA results analyzed by FWO method and Kissinger method, indicated the apparent activation energy of sc‐PLA/BA samples increases from 96.8 to 113.3 kJ/mol, suggesting the improvement of heat resistance. The CCK‐8 assay, ALP assay and cell Live/Dead assay results indicated that sc‐PLA with branching structure presented very low cell cytotoxicity. Therefore, the long chain branching sc‐PLA matrix with branching agent could effectively improve its crystallization abilities, mechanical properties, heat resistance and biocompatibilities.  相似文献

The crystal unit‐cell structures and the isothermal crystallization kinetics of poly(L ‐lactide) in biodegradable poly(L ‐lactide)‐block‐methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (PLLA‐b‐MePEG) diblock copolymers have been analyzed by wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. In particular, the effects due to the presence of MePEG that is chemically connected to PLLA as well as the PLLA crystallization temperature TC are examined. Though we observe no variation of both the PLLA and MePEG crystal unit‐cell structures with the block ratio between PLLA and MePEG and TC, the isothermal crystallization kinetics of PLLA is greatly influenced by the presence of MePEG that is connected to it. In particular, the equilibrium melting temperature of PLLA, T, significantly decreases in the diblock copolymers. When the TC is high so that the crystallization is controlled by nucleation, because of the decreasing T and thereafter the nucleation density with decreasing PLLA molecular weight, the crystallinity of PLLA also decreases with a decrease in the PLLA molecular weight. While, for the lower crystallization temperature regime controlled by the growth mechanism, the crystallizability of PLLA in copolymers is greater than that of pure PLLA. This suggests that the activation energy for the PLLA segment diffusing to the crystallization site decreases in the diblocks. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were surface‐modified and grafted with poly(L ‐lactide) to obtain poly(L ‐lactide)‐grafted MWNTs (i.e. MWNTs‐g‐PLLA). Films of the PLLA/MWNTs‐g‐PLLA nanocomposites were then prepared by a solution casting method to investigate the effects of the MWNTs‐g‐PLLA on nonisothermal and isothermal melt‐crystallizations of the PLLA matrix using DSC and TMDSC. DSC data found that MWNTs significantly enhanced the nonisothermal melt‐crystallization from the melt and the cold‐crystallization rates of PLLA on the subsequent heating. Temperature‐modulated differential scanning calorimetry (TMDSC) analysis on the quenched PLLA nanocomposites found that, in addition to an exothermic cold‐crystallization peak in the range of 80–120 °C, an exothermic peak in the range of 150–165 °C, attributed to recrystallization, appeared before the main melting peak in the total and nonreversing heat flow curves. The presence of the recrystallization peak signified the ongoing process of crystal perfection and, if any, the formation of secondary crystals during the heating scan. Double melting endotherms appeared for the isothermally melt‐crystallized PLLA samples at 110 °C. TMDSC analysis found that the double lamellar thickness model, other than the melting‐recrystallization model, was responsible for the double melting peaks in PLLA nanocomposites. Polarized optical microscopy images found that the nucleation rate of PLLA was enhanced by MWNTs. TMDSC analysis found that the incorporation of MWNTs caused PLLA to decrease the heat‐capacity increase (namely, ΔCp) and the Cp at glass transition temperature. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Free poly(L‐lactic acid) (PLLA) sheaves and spherulites were prepared by thermally induced phase separation method from its tetrahydrofuran solution without the assistance of other additives. The effects of variables such as polymer concentration, quenching temperature and time on the morphology of PLLA spherulites were studied. The morphology, size, degree of crystallinity, and crystal structure of spherulites were characterized by SEM, DSC and XRD, and so forth. No obvious sheaves or spherulites were observed at quenching temperature of 8 and 0 °C, whereas sheaves composed of fluffy nanofibers with diameter of about 250 nm were formed at quenching temperature range of ?10 to ?40 °C. With increasing quenching time, the PLLA morphology changed from small sheaves to big sheaves (cauliflower‐like) to spherulites. Low concentration (3 and 5 wt %) solutions were favorable for the formation of sheaves, whereas high concentration (7 wt %) solution as good for the formation of spherulites. The mechanism for the formation of PLLA sheaves or spherulites was examined by the isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization of PLLA/tetrahydrofuran solutions using DSC. The Avrami equation was used to analyze the data and good linear double‐logarithmic plots were obtained. The Avrami exponent n and rate constant K indicated the crystal growth mechanism was intermediate between completely instantaneous and completely sporadic types of nucleation and growth, and the spherulites were there dimensional. Compared to the spherulites embedded in the bulky film obtained from the melt processing, this study provided a feasible technique for the fabrication of free PLLA spherulites. The PLLA spherulites composed of fluffy nanofibers with a high porosity (≥90%) may be potentially applied as functional materials such as catalyst support, adsorption and biomedical materials, and so forth. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel nanocomposites from poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) and an organically modified layered double hydroxide (LDH) were prepared using the melt‐mixing technique. The structure and crystallization behavior of these nanocomposites were investigated by means of wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and polarized optical microscopy (POM). WAXD results indicate that the layer distance of dodecyl sulfate‐modified LDH (LDH‐DS) is increased in the PLLA/LDH composites, compared with the organically modified LDH. TEM analysis suggests that the most LDH‐DS layers disperse homogenously in the PLLA matrix in the nanometer scale with the intercalated or exfoliated structures. It was found that the incorporation of LDH‐DS has little or no discernable effect on the crystalline structure as well as the melting behavior of PLLA. However, the crystallization rate of PLLA increases with the addition of LDH‐DS. With the incorporation of 2.5 wt % LDH‐DS, the PLLA crystallization can be finished during the cooling process at 5 °C/min. With the addition of 5 wt % LDH‐DS, the half‐times of isothermal melt‐crystallization of PLLA at 100 and 120 °C reduce to 44.4% and 57.0% of those of the neat PLLA, respectively. POM observation shows that the nucleation density increases and the spherulite size of PLLA reduces distinctly with the presence of LDH‐DS. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Random and block copolymerizations of L ‐ or D ‐lactide with ε‐caprolactone (CL) were performed with a novel anionic initiator, (C5Me5)2SmMe(THF), and they resulted in partial epimerization, generating D ,L ‐ or meso‐lactide polymers with enhanced biodegradability. A blend of PLLA‐r‐PCL [82/18; PLLA = poly(L ‐LA) and PCL = poly(ε‐caprolactone)] and PDLA‐r‐PCL [79/21; PDLA = poly(D ‐LA)] prepared by the solution‐casting method generated a stereocomplex, the melting temperature of which was about 40 °C higher than that of the nonblended copolymers. A blend of PLLA‐b‐PCL (85/15) and PDLA‐b‐PCL (82/18) showed a lower elongation at break and a remarkably higher tensile modulus than stereocomplexes of PLLA‐r‐PCL/PDLA‐r‐PCL and PLLA/PDLA. The biodegradability of a blend of PLLA‐r‐PCL (65/35) and PDLA‐r‐PCL (66/34) with proteinase K was higher than that of PLLA‐b‐PCL (47/53) and PDLA‐b‐PCL (45/55), the degradability of which was higher than that of a PLLA/PDLA blend. A blend film of PLLA‐r‐PDLLA (69/31)/PDLA‐r‐PDLLA (68/32) exhibited higher degradability than a film of PLLA/PDLLA [PDLLA = poly(D ,L ‐LA)]. A stereocomplex of PLLA‐r‐PCL‐r‐PDMO [80/18/2; PDMO = poly(L ‐3,D ,L ‐6‐dimethyl‐2,5‐morpholinedion)] with PDLA‐r‐PCL‐r‐PDMO (81/17/2) showed higher degradability than PLLA‐r‐PDMO (98/2)/PDLA‐r‐PDMO (98/2) and PLLA‐r‐PCL (82/18)/PDLA‐r‐PCL (79/21) blends. The tensile modulus of a blend of PLLA‐r‐PCL‐r‐PDMO and PDLA‐r‐PCL‐r‐PDMO was much higher than that of a blend of PLLA‐r‐PDMO and PDLA‐r‐PDMO. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article reports the synthesis and the properties of novel thermoplastic elastomers of A‐B‐A type triblock copolymer structure, where the hard segment A is poly(l ‐lactide) (PLLA) and the soft segment B is poly(ε‐caprolactone‐stat‐d ,l ‐lactide) (P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)). The P(CL‐stat‐DLLA) block with DLLA content of 30 mol % was applied because of its amorphous nature and low glass transition temperature (Tg = approximately ?40 °C). Successive polymerization of l ‐lactide afforded PLLA‐block‐P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)‐block‐PLLAs, which exhibited melting temperature (Tm = approximately 150 °C) for the crystalline PLLA segments and still low Tg (approximately ?30 °C) of the soft segments. The triblock copolymers showed very high elongation at break up to approximately 2800% and elastic properties. The corresponding d ‐triblock copolymers, PDLA‐block‐P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)‐block‐PDLAs (PDLA = poly(d ‐lactide)) were also prepared with the same procedure using d ‐lactide in place of l ‐lactide. When the PLLA‐block‐P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)‐block‐PLLA was blended with PDLA‐block‐P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)‐block‐PDLA, stereocomplex crystals were formed to enhance their Tm as well as tensile properties. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The miktoarm star‐shaped poly(lactic acid) (PLA) copolymer, (PLLA)2‐core‐(PDLA)2, was synthesized via stepwise ring‐opening polymerization of lactide with dibromoneopentyl glycol as the starting material. 1H NMR and FTIR spectroscopy proved the feasibility of synthetic route and the successful preparation of star‐shaped PLA copolymers. The results of FTIR spectroscopy and XRD showed that the stereocomplex structure of the copolymer could be more perfect after solvent dissolution treatment. Effect of chain architectures on crystallization was investigated by studying the nonisothermal and isothermal crystallization of the miktoarm star‐shaped PLA copolymer and other stereocomplexes. Nonisothermal differential scanning calorimetry and polarizing optical microscopy tests indicated that (PLLA)2‐core‐(PDLA)2 exhibited the fastest formation of a stereocomplex in a dynamic test due to its special structure. In isothermal crystallization tests, the copolymer exhibited the fast crystal growth rate and the most perfect crystal morphology. The results reveal that the unique molecular structure has an important influence on the crystallization of the miktoarm star‐shaped PLA copolymer. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym.
