In order to modify the brittleness and flame retardant properties of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), a series of flame retardant toughened PLA composites were prepared using poly(ethylene glycol) 6000 (PEG6000) as a toughening and charring agent together with ammonium polyphosphate (APP) as an acid source and blowing agent. The fire and thermal behavior of PLA/PEG/APP composites was evaluated by limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL‐94, cone calorimeter, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results showed that the PLA/PEG/APP system had good charring ability and could improve the flame retardancy of PLA. When the content of APP in the composites was more than 5 wt%, all samples could reach UL‐94 V‐0 rating. The results of mechanical property tests demonstrated that the brittleness of PLA was also improved after blended with PEG6000. All the PLA/PEG/APP composites with an APP content of less than 10 wt% showed an obvious neck and fracture behavior, that is, the tensile behavior of PLA was changed from brittle to ductile. A new class of polylactic acid (PLA)/polyethylene glycol (PEG) copolymer reinforced with bacterial cellulose nanofibers (BC) was prepared using a solvent casting and particulate leaching methods. Four weight fractions of BC (1, 2.5, 5, and 10 wt%) were incorporated into copolymer via silane coupling agent. Mechanical properties were evaluated using response surface method (RSM) to optimize the impact of pore size, porosity, and BC contents. Compressive strength obtained for PLA/PEG-5 BC wt% was 9.8 MPa, which significantly dropped after developing a porous structure to 4.9 MPa. Nielson model was applied to investigate the BC stress concentration on the PLA/PEG. Likewise, krenche and Hapli-Tasi model were employed to investigate the BC nanofiber reinforcement and BC orientation into PLA/PEG chains. The optimal parameters of the experiment results found to be 5 wt% for BC, 230 μm for pore size, and 80% for porosity. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrograph indicates that uniform pore size and regular pore shape were achieved after an addition of BC-5% into PLA/PEG. The weight loss of copolymer-BC with scaffolds enhanced to the double values, compared with PLA/PEG-BC % without scaffolds. Differential Scanning Calorimetric (DSC) results revealed that the BC nanofiber improved glass transition temperature (Tg) 57 °C, melting temperature (Tm) 171 °C, and crystallinity (χ %) 43% of PLA/PEG reinforced-BC-5%.  相似文献

Polylactide (PLA)/cellulose nanofiber (CNF) biocomposites were prepared via solution casting and direct melt mixing. To improve the compatibility, a masterbatch of CNFs and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) (1:2) was also prepared. The effects of PEG on the morphology and properties of the biocomposites were investigated. The dispersion/distribution of nanofibers in PLA was improved when the masterbatch was used and the composites were prepared in solution. Substantial effects on the rheological properties of solution-prepared PLA/CNF/PEG composites were observed compared to composites containing no PEG, whereas for melt-prepared composites no significant changes were detected. Increased crystalline content and crystallization temperature were observed for the composites prepared via the masterbatch and solvent casting. The storage modulus of PLA was increased by 42 and 553% at 25 and at 80 °C, respectively, for the solution-based PEG-compatibilized composite containing 2 wt% nanofibers. Also, a better light transmittance was measured for the PLA/CNF/PEG composites prepared in solution.  相似文献

Tissue adhesions cause severe and life-threatening conditions, including pain, infertility, and heart defects. The purpose of this study is to develop an anti-adhesion membrane that sticks onto the injured tissues or organs in order to avoid the suturing of the membrane which may lead to the unnecessary tissue adhesion. We previously developed poly(lactic acid)-poly(ethylene glycol) (PLA-PEG) multiblock copolymers as soft, water absorbable, and quickly degradable biomaterials. The copolymer with the highest PEG content adsorbs body fluid in vivo and sticks to the tissues. In the present study thin film and nanofiber mat were prepared from the copolymer and evaluated in vitro and in vivo. The hydrophilicity and the degradation rate increased with the increased PEG content of the multiblock copolymers. The copolymer with PEG content of 88% (LE(m)-88) was quickly swollen, become viscous, and rapidly collapsed in PBS, which was suitable feature for adhesion prevention material without suturing. Various double layered membranes with different characteristics were evaluated in vivo by applying onto the cecum scrubbed with abrasive paper, and onto the heart surface after pericardium removal. LE(m)-88 was swollen with tissue fluid and had a hydrogel-like nature. LE(m)-88 film/LE(m)-32 film double layered membrane was found to be the most effective in preventing tissue adhesion in cecum model. This excellent performance was confirmed in the rat heart adhesion model. In both models, the LE(m)-32 support film was detached from the site of application, which leads to the healing without adhesion.  相似文献

In this research, polyvinyl-alcohol (PVA)/gelatin (GEL)/propolis (Ps) biocompatible nanofiber patches were fabricated via electrospinning technique. The controlled release of Propolis, surface wettability behaviors, antimicrobial activities against the S. aureus and P. aeruginosa, and biocompatibility properties with the mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were investigated in detail. By adding 0.5, 1, and 3 wt.% GEL into the 13 wt.% PVA, the morphological and mechanical results suggested that 13 wt.% PVA/0.5 wt.% GEL patch can be an ideal matrix for 3 and 5 wt.% propolis addition. Morphological results revealed that the diameters of the electrospun nanofiber patches were increased with GEL (from 290 nm to 400 nm) and Ps addition and crosslinking process cause the formation of thicker nanofibers. The tensile strength and elongation at break enhancement were also determined for 13 wt.% PVA/0.5 wt.% GEL/3 wt.% Ps patch. Propolis was released quickly in the first hour and arrived at a plateau. Cell culture and contact angle results confirmed that the 3 wt.% addition of propolis reinforced mesenchymal stem cell proliferation and wettability properties of the patches. The antimicrobial activity demonstrated that propolis loaded patches had antibacterial activity against the S. aureus, but for P. aeruginosa, more studies should be performed.  相似文献

Polylactic acid (PLA) was modified by poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) and nano-attapulgite (AT) using the melt blending technique. Ethylene-butyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate (E-BA-GMA) was used as a compatibilizer which can bond the AT nanoparticles with PLA/PBAT matrix by interaction between the epoxy and hydroxyl groups. The effects of the AT content on the mechanical properties, thermal properties, crystallinity and morphology of PLA/PBAT/ATT nanocomposites were investigated. The results showed that the tensile strength, elongation at break and impact strength of PLA/PBAT could be simultaneously increased by incorporating AT nanoparticles. PLA/PBAT/AT nanocomposites possessed higher thermal stability than pure PLA/PBAT. In the ternary composite system of PLA/PBAT/AT, AT acted as a heterogeneous nucleating agent and was able to increase the crystallization temperature. When the AT content was low (≤2.5 wt%), AT nanoparticles could uniformly disperse in the PLA/PBAT matrix. In general, AT was an effective filler to reinforce and toughen PLA/PBAT blend simultaneously, and the PLA/PBAT/AT nanocomposite with 2.5 wt% AT exhibited a good combination of strength and toughness.  相似文献

Polylactic acid (PLA) in a crystallized state has mechanical properties at high temperatures superior to PLA in an amorphous state. However, a long annealing time is required to fully crystallize PLA. In this study, microfibrillated cellulose (MFC)-reinforced partially crystallized PLA composites were produced, with the goal of reducing the time required to fabricate PLA parts. A series of PLA/MFC composites at a fiber content of 10 wt% from degree of crystallinity (Xc) 0 to 43% was obtained by annealing at 80 °C. Although the annealing time required to obtain a composite (Xc: 17%) was only around one-seventh of the 20 min needed to fully crystallize neat PLA (Xc: 41%), both materials had comparable rigidity above the glass transition temperature (T g) and creep deformation at around T g. These results showed that partially crystallized PLA/MFC composite can replace fully crystallized neat PLA.  相似文献

Core‐shell structured nanoparticles of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)/polypeptide/poly(D ,L ‐lactide) (PLA) copolymers were prepared and their properties were investigated. The copolymers had a poly(L ‐serine) or poly(L ‐phenylalanine) block as a linker between a hydrophilic PEG and a hydrophobic PLA unit. They formed core‐shell structured nanoparticles, where the polypeptide block resided at the interface between a hydrophilic PEG shell and a hydrophobic PLA core. In the synthesis, poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(L ‐serine) (PEG‐PSER) was prepared by ring opening polymerization of N‐carboxyanhydride of O‐(tert‐butyl)‐L ‐serine and subsequent removal of tert‐butyl groups. Poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(L ‐phenylalanine) (PEG‐PPA) was obtained by ring opening polymerization of N‐carboxyanhydride of L ‐phenylalanine. Methoxy‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐amine with a MW of 5000 was used as an initiator for both polymerizations. The polymerization of D ,L ‐lactide by initiation with PEG‐PSER and PEG‐PPA produced a comb‐like copolymer, poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐[poly(L ‐serine)‐g‐poly(D ,L ‐lactide)] (PEG‐PSER‐PLA) and a linear copolymer, poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(L ‐phenylalanine)‐b‐poly(D ,L ‐lactide) (PEG‐PPA‐PLA), respectively. The nanoparticles obtained from PEG‐PPA‐PLA showed a negative zeta potential value of ?16.6 mV, while those of PEG‐PSER‐PLA exhibited a positive value of about 19.3 mV. In pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution at 36 °C, the nanoparticles of PEG/polypeptide/PLA copolymers showed much better stability than those of a linear PEG‐PLA copolymer having a comparable molecular weight. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The polylactic acid (PLA) nanofiber membranes reinforced with hyperbranched PLA‐modified cellulose nanocrystals (H‐PLA‐CNCs) were prepared by electrospinning. The H‐PLA‐CNCs and the nanofiber membranes were researched by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The outcomes embodied that the cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) could be successfully improved by the hyperbranched PLA, which would offer powerful CNCs/matrix interfacial adhesion. Thus, the mechanical and shape memory properties of PLA can be improved by adding the H‐PLA‐CNCs. In particular, when the addition of H‐PLA‐CNCs was 7 wt%, the tensile strength and an ultimate strain of PLA composite nanofiber membranes was 15.56 MPa and 25%, which was 228% and 72.4% higher than that of neat PLA, respectively. In addition, the shape recovery rate of the PLA/5 wt% H‐PLA‐CNCs composite nanofiber membrane was 93%, which was 37% higher than that of neat PLA. We expected that this present study would provide unremitting efforts for the development of more effective approaches to prepare biology basic shape memory membranes with high mechanical properties.  相似文献

In recent years, shape memory polyurethane (SMPU) as a smart material has been used in various applications owing to its desirable shape memory effect and biocompatibility. In this study, unidirectional SMPU nanofibers are innovated by electrospinning to clarify the mechanical and shape memory properties with nanofiber directions. The results showed that when the nanofiber alignment degree is 0° (parallel to the tensile direction), the aligned SMPU nanofibers achieved the obvious improvement of tensile strength (increased to 135%) and elastic modulus (increased to 313%), compared with the random SMPU nanofiber. Moreover, the developed aligned nanofibers exhibited good ability against stress relaxation and creep under constant strain or constant stress conditions in cyclic loading. The aligned SMPU nanofibers with a 0° alignment degree exhibited excellent shape memory properties with shape recovery rates larger than 93% and shape fixity rates larger than 90%, and a dramatic increase of shape recovery stress.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) were successfully assembled by chemical reaction to obtain CNT‐d‐RGO particles. Then, a home‐made dynamic impregnating device was used to prepare hybrid CNT‐d‐RGO/polyethylene glycol (PEG). Next, the different modifiers, including CNTs, GO, CNT‐d‐RGO, PEG, and CNT‐d‐RGO/PEG, were, respectively, added into poly‐(lactic acid) (PLA) matrix via melt‐compounding. The dispersed morphology for these different modifiers within the PLA matrix was confirmed by SEM and TEM observations. Especially, compared with the identical weight ratio of CNT‐d‐RGO, the hybrid CNT‐d‐RGO/PEG within the PLA matrix exhibited an excellent exfoliated and interconnected networks morphology. Moreover, compared with pure PLA, not only the crystallinity of all PLA‐based composites notably improved, but half‐crystallization time was also shortened. Furthermore, despite the addition of different modifiers, the crystal form of PLA‐based composites remained unchanged. Noticeably, compared with those of pure PLA, the tensile stress, strain, and modulus of PLA composite added with CNT‐d‐RGO/PEG increased by 29.4%, 4.1%, and 56.1%, respectively, and the V‐notch impact strength slightly improved. In addition, compared with pure PLA, volume resistivity of the PLA composite added with 1 wt% CNT‐d‐RGO/PEG decreased by 93.1%, and its volume conductivity increased by five orders of magnitude.  相似文献

Stereocomplex crystallite (SC) between enantiomeric poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) and poly(d-lactic acid) (PDLA), with largely improved thermal resistance and mechanical properties compared with PLLA and PDLA, is a good nucleating agent for poly(lactic acid) (PLA). The effects of SC and/or polyethylene glycol (PEG) on the crystallization behaviors of PLA were investigated. The non-isothermal and isothermal crystallization kinetics revealed that SC and PEG can separately promote the crystallization rate of PLA by heterogeneous nucleation and increasing crystal growth rate, respectively. However, their promoting effect is limited when used alone, and the modified PLA cannot crystallize completely under a cooling rate of 20 °C/min. When SC and PEG are both present, the crystallization rate of PLA is greatly accelerated, and even under a cooling rate of 40 °C/min, PLA can crystallize completely and get a high crystallinity owing to the excellent balance between simultaneously improved nucleation and crystal growth rate.  相似文献

Cellulose acetate (CA) membranes blended with Polyethylene glycol (PEG) in acetone–water solvent system were synthesized by using solution-casting method that resulted in the formation of flexible, white membranes. Different molecular weight (MW) grades of PEG (including MW 1000, 10,000 and 20,000?g/mol) were used. Cast membranes were tested for tensile strength and permeability at different loading of PEG MW 10,000 and 20,000?g/mol. Excellent flexible membranes were produced in acetone–water solvent system in the presence of PEG, which were otherwise brittle. Surface structure and morphology were analysed using scanning electron microscopy. The presence of different functional groups was confirmed using Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy and the mechanical characteristics were studied by tensile testing. The introduction of PEG caused an increase in permeability of the membranes. The increase in permeability is due to the opening up of pores as the membrane becomes more flexible, when the plasticizer is added. The permeability continues to increase with the addition of PEG. Moreover, the resulting membranes are not only more flexible, but also have largely improved tensile strength as compared to the CA membranes without PEG. This improved tensile strength can also be attributed to the improved flexibility of the membrane. A trade-off is reached between tensile strength and permeability as increasing amount of PEG improves tensile strength but the resulting membrane becomes too permeable to be used for gas separation. Moreover, using PEG of higher MW resulted in porous membranes, even at low amounts of PEG. Therefore, we concluded that CA membrane with less amount of low-MW PEG (i.e. 5% PEG of MW 1000?g/mol) must be used to optimize both permeability and tensile strength of the membrane.  相似文献

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a phase change material possesses three obstacles, such as leakage, low thermal conductivity and low thermal stability. A novel solid-solid phase change material (PCM) based on functionalized graphene oxide (GO), Polyethylene glycol (PEG) was prepared, and the three obstacles of PEG as a PCM was solved in one and the same material. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman and Transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and thermogravimetric analysis/infrared spectrometry (TG-IR) were used to study the properties of supporting material and composite PCM (CPCM). The results indicated that the PEG was grafted on the surface of the supporting material; Compared with pure PEG, the latent heat of CPCM with 9.6 wt% supporting material decreased only 5.3%, however, the thermal conductivity of CPCM increased 111% and the heat peak release rate of CPCM decreased 33.4%.  相似文献

30 wt% aligned untreated long hemp fibre/PLA (AUL) and aligned alkali treated long hemp fibre/PLA (AAL) composites were produced by film stacking and subjected to accelerated ageing. Accelerated ageing was carried out using UV irradiation and water spray at 50 °C for four different time intervals (250, 500, 750 and 1000 h). After accelerated ageing, tensile strength (TS), flexural strength, Young's modulus (YM), flexural modulus and mode I fracture toughness (KIc) were found to decrease and impact strength (IS) was found to increase for both AUL and AAL composites. AUL composites had greatest overall reduction in mechanical properties than that for AAL composites upon exposure to accelerated ageing environment. FTIR analysis and crystallinity contents of the accelerated aged composites support the results of the deterioration of mechanical properties upon exposure to accelerated ageing environment.  相似文献

In this study, poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/starch blends were prepared through reactive melt blending by using PLA and starch as raw materials and vegetable oil polyols, polyethylene glycol (PEG), and citric acid (CA) as additives. The effects of CA and PEG on the toughness of PLA/starch blends were analyzed using a mechanical performance test, scanning electron microscope analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, rheological analysis, and hydrophilicity test. Results showed that the elongation at break and impact strength of the PLA/premixed starch (PSt)/PEG/CA blend were 140.51% and 3.56 kJ·m−2, which were 13.4 and 1.8 times higher than those of pure PLA, respectively. The essence of the improvement in the toughness of the PLA/PSt/PEG/CA blend was the esterification reaction among CA, PEG, and starch. During the melt-blending process, the CA with abundant carboxyl groups reacted in the amorphous region of the starch. The shape and crystal form of the starch did not change, but the surface activity of the starch improved and consequently increased the adhesion between starch and PLA. As a plasticizer for PLA and starch, PEG effectively enhanced the mobility of the molecular chains. After PEG was dispersed, it participated in the esterification reaction of CA and starch at the interface and formed a branched/crosslinked copolymer that was embedded in the interface of PLA and starch. This copolymer further improved the compatibility of the PLA/starch blends. PEGs with small molecules and CA were used as compatibilizers to reduce the effect on PLA biodegradability. The esterification reaction on the starch surface improved the compatibilization and toughness of the PLA/starch blend materials and broadens their application prospects in the fields of medicine and high-fill packaging.  相似文献

Two novel biodegradable copolymers, including poly(ethylene glycol)-succinate copolymer (PES) and poly(ethylene glycol)-succinate-l-lactide copolymer (PESL), have been successfully synthesized via melt polycondensation using SnCl2 as a catalyst. The copolymers were used to toughen PLA by melt blending. The DSC and SEM results indicated that the two copolymers were compatible well with PLA, and the compatibility of PESL was superior to that of PES. The results of tensile testing showed that the extensibility of PLA was largely improved by blending with PES or PESL. At same blending ratios, the elongation at break of PLA/PESL blends was far higher than that of PLA/PES ones. The elongation maintained stable through aging for 3 months. The moisture absorption of the blends enhanced due to the strong moisture absorption of PEG segments in PES or PESL molecules, which did not directly lead to enhance the hydrolytic degradation rate of the PLA. The PLA blends containing 20–30 wt% PES or PESL were high transparent materials with high light scattering. The toughening PLA materials could potentially be used as a soft biodegradable packaging material or a special optical material.  相似文献

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/PEG/nano-silica composite degradable films have been prepared by solvent casting method. IR measurements showed that vibration of C–O–C group was confined by silica network. SEM results showed that nano-silica particles were dispersed uniformly in the PLA/PEG matrix. TGA results indicated that the thermal decomposition temperature rose with the increase of nano-silica content. The tensile strength of composite film increased by the addition of nano-silica particles into PLA/PEG matrix. The degradation rate of PLA/PEG/nano-silica composites increased with the acidic medium of degradation. On the other hand, the slower degradation was obtained in the neutral buffer solution. PLA/PEG/nano-silica composites were found to exhibit almost similar degradation behavior as that of PLA/PEG films.  相似文献

Polylactic acid (PLA) was toughened by 5–20 wt % of natural rubber (NR). Two different compatibilizers maleated PLA (PLA-g-MA) and maleated NR (NR-g-MA) were used as coupling agent. The blends were prepared using twin screw extruder at varying levels of NR. Mechanical, thermal and morphological analyses were carried out to study the effect of compatibilizer on PLA/NR blends compatibility.  相似文献
