We have studied the effect of thermal history on ionic conductivity of block copolymer electrolytes. Previous work on block copolymer electrolytes composed of polystyrene‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide) (SEO) and lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfone) imide (LiTFSI) salt was restricted to lamellar morphologies. This study addresses both cylindrical and lamellar morphologies. The conductivity of low molecular weight samples decreases after they are annealed. In contrast, the conductivity of high molecular weight samples is generally unaffected by annealing. These results are explained in the context of connectivity and composition of the conducting phase. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci. Part B: Polym. Phys. 2013 , 51, 927–934  相似文献

Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) are compounds of great interest as safe and flexible alternative ionics materials, particularly suitable for energy storage devices. We study an unusual dependence on the salt concentration of the ionic conductivity in an SPE system based on poly(ethylene carbonate) (PEC). Dielectric relaxation spectroscopy reveals that the ionic conductivity of PEC/lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) electrolyte continues to increase with increasing salt concentration because the segmental motion of the polymer chains is enhanced by the plasticizing effect of the imide anion. Fourier transfer‐infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy suggests that this unusual phenomenon arises because of a relatively loose coordination structure having moderately aggregated ions, in contrast to polyether‐based systems. Comparative FTIR study against PEC/lithium perchlorate (LiClO4) electrolytes suggests that weak ionic interaction between Li and TFSI ions is also important. Highly concentrated electrolytes with both reasonable conductivity and high lithium transference number (t+) can be obtained in the PEC/LiTFSI system as a result of the unusual salt concentration dependence of the conductivity and the ionic solvation structure. The resulting concentrated PEC/LiTFSI electrolytes have extraordinary oxidation stability and prevent any Al corrosion reaction in a cyclic voltammetry. These are inherent effects of the highly concentrated salt. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Phys. 2016 , 54, 2442–2447  相似文献

The phase behavior of intermediately segregated (χN = 45) poly(ethylene)‐poly(ethylethylene) (PE–PEE) diblock copolymers and PE–PEE binary blends are characterized using transmission electron microscopy and small‐angle X‐ray scattering. Surprisingly, the preparation‐dependent, nonequilibrium phase behavior can be overwhelming even at this degree of segregation. A pure diblock with a poly(ethylene) volume fraction of fPE = 0.46 exhibited coexisting lamellae and perforated layers when prepared using a precipitation technique, but contained only the lamellar morphology when solvent cast. This preparation dependence was more dramatic in binary diblock copolymer blends with average compositions of 〈fPE〉 = 0.44, 0.46, and 0.48. Precipitated blends exhibited a microphase separated structure that was disordered and bicontinuous; however, solvent cast samples exhibited either a cylindrical, coexisting cylindrical and lamellar, or lamellar morphology. This nonequilibrium behavior is attributed to the high degree of segregation and the proximity to the cylinder/lamellae phase boundary. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Salt‐containing membranes based on polymethacrylates having poly(ethylene carbonate‐co‐ethylene oxide) side chains, as well as their blends with poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF‐HFP), have been studied. Self‐supportive ion conductive membranes were prepared by casting films of methacrylate functional poly(ethylene carbonate‐co‐ethylene oxide) macromonomers containing lithium bis(trifluorosulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) salt, followed by irradiation with UV‐light to polymerize the methacrylate units in situ. Homogenous electrolyte membranes based on the polymerized macromonomers showed a conductivity of 6.3 × 10?6 S cm?1 at 20 °C. The preparation of polymer blends, by the addition of PVDF‐HFP to the electrolytes, was found to greatly improve the mechanical properties. However, the addition led to an increase of the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the ion conductive phase by ~5 °C. The conductivity of the blend membranes was thus lower in relation to the corresponding homogeneous polymer electrolytes, and 2.5 × 10?6 S cm?1 was recorded for a membrane containing 10 wt % PVDF‐HFP at 20 °C. Increasing the salt concentration in the blend membranes was found to increase the Tg of the ion conductive component and decrease the propensity for the crystallization of the PVDF‐HFP component. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Three diblock copolymers of polystyrene‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PS‐b‐PNIPAM) were prepared by reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer technique (RAFT) with compositions fPS = 0.84, fPS = 0.29, and fPS = 0.33. Block copolymers rich in PNIPAM were blended with polystyrene and its morphological effects were studied. The morphology of thin films was induced by acetone vapor and determined in the dried state by means of TEM. Copolymers with fPS = 0.84 and fPS = 0.29 form hexagonally packed cylinder (HPC) morphologies while that with fPS = 0.33 corresponds to a lamellar structure. In almost all cases where PNIPAM constitutes the continuous phase, a contraction of the PNIPAM blocks with respect to their average unperturbed dimension was observed, contrary to what one expects from the physics of self‐assembly of block copolymers. In contrast, for HPC morphology where PNIPAM is confined in a PS matrix, both blocks are highly extended. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Nanostructured nickel sulfide (NiS) was synthesized via a simple polyol route. The NiS powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and electrochemical testing. The results revealed that the cycle life of the annealed NiS sample was improved over that of the as-prepared sample. The electrochemical performance was also tested using 1 M lithium trifluoromethanesulfonimide (LiTFSI) in a solvent of poly(ethylene glycol) dimethyl ether (PEGDME) in order to compare with a sample tested in the conventional electrolyte of 1 M LiPF6 in a mixture of ethylene carbonate (EC) and dimethyl carbonate (DMC). The results showed that the electrochemical properties were improved by using the 1 M LiTFSI/PEGDME electrolyte.  相似文献

We prepared two block copolymers 1 and 2 consisting of a third‐generation dendron with poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) peripheries and a linear polystyrene (PS) coil. The PS molecular weights were 2000 g/mol and 8000 g/mol for 1 and 2 , respectively. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) data indicated that neither of the block copolymers showed glass transition, implying that there was no microphase separation between the PEO and PS blocks. However, upon doping the block copolymers with lithium triflate (lithium concentration per ethylene oxide unit = 0.2), two distinct glass transitions were seen, corresponding to the salt‐doped PEO and PS blocks, respectively. The morphological analysis using small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) demonstrated that a hexagonal columnar morphology was induced in salt‐doped sample 1‐Li+ , whereas the other sample ( 2‐Li+ ) with a longer PS coil revealed a lamellar structure. In particular, in the SAXS data of 2‐Li+ , an abrupt reduction in the lamellar thickness was observed near the PS glass transition temperature (Tg), in contrast to the SAXS data for 1‐Li+ . This reduction implies that there is a lateral expansion of the molecular section in the lamellar structure, which can be interpreted by the conformational energy stabilization of the long PS coil above Tg. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We studied the conducting and mesomorphic behavior of a dendritic‐linear copolymer on adding hydrophilic additives and lithium salts. For the preparation of the pristine block copolymer ( A ), a click reaction of a hydrophobic Y‐shaped dendron block and a hydrophilic linear poly(ethylene oxide) coil with Mn = 750 g mol?1 was performed. For ionic block copolymer samples ( 1–3 ), a hydrophilic compound ( B ) bearing two tri(ethylene oxide) chains was used as the additive. In all ionic samples, the lithium concentration per ethylene oxide was chosen to be 0.05. As characterized by polarized optical microscopy and small angle X‐ray scattering techniques, copolymer A showed a hexagonal columnar mesophase. On addition of lithium‐doped additives, ionic samples 1 and 2 with the additive weight fractions (fw) of 10 and 20%, columnar and bicontinuous structures coexisted in the liquid crystalline phase. On the other hand, ionic sample 3 with fw = 30% displayed only a bicontinuous cubic mesophase. Based on the impedance results, with increasing the amount of additives, the conductivity value increased from 3.80 × 10?6 to 2.34 × 10?5 S cm?1 at 35 °C. The conductivity growth could be explained by the interplay of the plasticization effect of the mobile additive and the morphological transformation from 1D to 3D of the ion‐conducting cylindrical cores. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Networked polymers that had poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) chains and lithium sulfonylimide salt structures were prepared by curing a mixture of poly(ethylene glycol) diglycidyl ether and lithium 3‐glycidyloxypropanesulfonyl‐trifluoromethanesulfonylimide with poly(ethylene glycol) bis(3‐aminopropyl) terminated. The obtained flexible self‐standing networked polymer films showed high thermal and mechanical stability with relatively high ionic conductivity. The room temperature ionic conductivity under a dry condition was in the range of 10?5 ~ 10?4 S m?1, which is one order of magnitude higher than the corresponding networked polymers having lithium sulfonate salt structures (10?6 ~ 10?5 S m?1). The film sample became swollen by immersing in propylene carbonate (PC) or PC solution of lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI). The sample swollen in PC showed higher ionic conductivity (7.2 × 10?3 S m?1 at room temperature), and the sample swollen in 1.0 M LiTFSI/PC showed much higher ionic conductivity (8.2 × 10?1 S m?1 at room temperature). © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Here, we report the morphology variation in a series of PS-b-PI-b-PS' asymmetric triblock copolymer and PS homopolymer (hPS) blends, where PS' and PS are polystyrene blocks with a molecular weight ratio of approximately 0.11 and PI is poly(isoprene). We find that adding a small amount of hPS results in significant order–order transition (OOT) boundary deflection toward higher PS volume fractions fPS, which is accompanied by morphology re-entry. For example, the neat triblock copolymer with a PS + PS' volume fraction of fPS = 0.38 exhibits a lamellar microphase; adding a small amount of hPS reverts the morphology into a hexagonal phase with PS cylinders, while further increasing the hPS fraction leads to normal OOTs from PS cylinders to lamellae, to PI cylinders and finally to spheres. The morphology variation reported here is significantly different from that reported in binary blends of diblock or symmetric triblock copolymer with homopolymer. While the domain features of the LAM structure can be correctly reproduced by self-consistent field theory (SCFT), the observed morphology re-entry is absent in the theoretical SCFT phase diagram.

Poly(ethylene glycol)‐based networked polymers that had lithium sulfonate salt structures on the network were prepared by heating a mixture of poly(ethylene glycol) diglycidyl ether (PEGGE), poly(ethylene glycol) bis(3‐aminopropyl) terminated (PEGBA), and an ionic epoxy monomer, lithium 3‐glycidyloxypropanesulfonate (LiGPS). Flexible self‐standing networked polymer films showed high thermal stability, low crystallinity, low glass transition temperature, and good mechanical strength. The materials were ion conductive at room temperature even under a dry condition, although the ionic conductivity was rather low (10?6 to 10?5 S/m). The ionic conductivity increased with the increase in temperature to above 1 × 10?4 S/m at 90 °C. The film samples became swollen by immersing in propylene carbonate (PC) or PC solution of lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI). The samples swollen in PC showed higher ionic conductivity (ca.1 × 10?3 S/m at room temperature), and the samples swollen in LiTFSI/PC showed much higher ionic conductivity (nearly 1 S/m at room temperature). © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Lithium bis(trifluoromethylsulfone)imide (LiTFSI) is a promising electrolyte for high-energy lithium batteries due to its high solubility in most solvents and electrochemical stability. To characterize this electrolyte in solution, its conductance and apparent molar volume and heat capacity were measured over a wide range of concentration in glymes, tetraethylsulfamide (TESA), acetonitrile, -butyrolactone, and propylene carbonate at 25°C and were compared with those of LiClO4 in the same solvents. The glymes or n(ethylene glycol) dimethyl ethers (nEGDME), which have the chemical structure CH3–O–(CH2–CH2–O) n –CH3 for n = 1 to 4, are particularly interesting since they are electrochemically stable, have a good redox window, and are analogs of the polyethylene oxides used in polymer-electrolyte batteries. TESA is a good plasticizer for polymer-electrolyte batteries. Whenever required, the following properties of the pure solvents were measured: compressibilities, expansibilities, temperature and pressure dependences of the dielectric constant, acceptor number, and donor number. These data were used in particular to calculate the limiting Debye-Hückel parameters for volumes and heat capacities. The infinite dilution properties of LiTFSI are quite similar to those of other lithium salts. At low concentrations, LiTFSI is strongly associated in the glymes and moderately associated in TESA. At intermediate concentrations, the thermodynamic data suggests that a stable solvate of LiTFSI in EGDME exists in the solution state. At high concentrations, the thermodynamic properties of the two lithium salts approach those of the molten salts. These salts have a reasonably high specific conductivity in most of the solvents. This suggests that the conductance of ions at high concentration in solvents of low dielectric constant is due to a charge transfer process rather than to the migration of free ions.  相似文献

The effect of casting solvent on the morphology of sulfonated polystyrene‐block‐poly(ethylene‐ran‐butylene)‐block‐polystyrene (SSEBS) was investigated using transmission electron microscopy and small‐angle X‐ray scattering. Proton conductivities and methanol permeabilities were measured and the related impact on morphological changes is discussed. SSEBS is transformed from a well‐ordered lamellar to a disordered structure as the concentration of MeOH in MeOH/THF mixtures increases.  相似文献

We prepared a ternary composite polymer electrolyte from poly(ethylene carbonate) (PEC), lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide (LiTFSI) and non‐calcined silica nanofibers (SNFs) having 3 average diameters (300, 700, and 1000 nm). The SNF composite electrolytes were obtained as homogeneous, self‐standing membranes. The ionic conductivity of PEC/LiTFSI 100 mol% was increased by the addition of SNFs, and the thinner SNFs with average diameter 300 nm were most effective in improving the conductivity. The conductivity was of the order of 10−4 S/cm at 60°C. The lithium transference number of the SNF300 composite was greater than 0.7. Stress‐strain curves of the composites indicated significant increases in Young's modulus and maximum stress for the PEC electrolytes. The 5% weight‐loss temperature of the composites also improved with the addition of SNF.  相似文献

Proton exchange membranes (PEMs) suffer performance degradation under certain conditions—temperatures greater than 80 °C, relative humidity less than 50%, and water retention less than 22%. Novel materials are needed that have improved water retention, stability at higher temperatures, flexibility, conductivity, and the ability to function at low humidity. This work focuses on polyimide-poly(ethylene glycol) (PI-PEG) segmented block copolymer (SBC) membranes with high conductivity and mechanical strength. Membranes were prepared with one of two ionic liquids (ILs), either ethylammonium nitrate (EAN) or propylammonium nitrate (PAN), incorporated within the membrane structure to enhance the proton exchange capability. Ionic liquid uptake capacities were compared for two different temperatures, 25 and 60 °C. Then, conductivities were measured for a series of combinations of undoped or doped unannealed and undoped or doped annealed membranes. Stress and strain tests were performed for unannealed and thermally annealed undoped membranes. Later, these experiments were repeated for doped unannealed and thermally annealed. Mechanical and conductivity data were interpreted in the context of prior small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) studies on similar materials. We have shown that varying the compositions of polyimide-poly(ethylene glycol) (PI-PEG) SBCs allowed the morphology in the system to be tuned. Since polyimides (PI) are made from the condensation of dianhydrides and diamines, this was accomplished using components having different functional groups. Dianhydrides having either fluorinated or oxygenated functional groups and diamines having either fluorinated or oxygenated diamines were used as well as mixtures of these species. Changing the morphology by creating macrophase separation elevated the IL uptake capacities, and in turn, increased their conductivities by a factor of three or more compared to Nafion 115. The stiffness of the membranes synthesized in this work was comparable to Nafion 115 and, thus, sufficient for practical applications.  相似文献

A novel single lithium‐ion (Li‐ion) conducting polymer electrolyte is presented that is composed of the lithium salt of a polyanion, poly[(4‐styrenesulfonyl)(trifluoromethyl(S‐trifluoromethylsulfonylimino)sulfonyl)imide] (PSsTFSI?), and high‐molecular‐weight poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO). The neat LiPSsTFSI ionomer displays a low glass‐transition temperature (44.3 °C; that is, strongly plasticizing effect). The complex of LiPSsTFSI/PEO exhibits a high Li‐ion transference number (tLi+=0.91) and is thermally stable up to 300 °C. Meanwhile, it exhibits a Li‐ion conductivity as high as 1.35×10?4 S cm?1 at 90 °C, which is comparable to that for the classic ambipolar LiTFSI/PEO SPEs at the same temperature. These outstanding properties of the LiPSsTFSI/PEO blended polymer electrolyte would make it promising as solid polymer electrolytes for Li batteries.  相似文献

Amphiphilic polymers consisting of copolymethacrylates carrying about 26 wt % ethylene oxide [(EO)n] side chains of different lengths were used as matrices in gel electrolytes. The gel electrolytes were composed of 30 wt % copolymer and 70 wt % 1 M LiPF6 in a mixture of ethylene carbonate and γ‐butyrolactone (2/1 w/w). The coordination of lithium ions by the (EO)n side chains in competition with the solvent was studied by Raman spectroscopy. A significantly stronger lithium coordination was observed when the gel electrolyte was based on a copolymer carrying (EO)9 units in comparison with copolymers having (EO)1, (EO)2, and (EO)4 units. Despite the observed stronger lithium coordination by (EO)9 units in the gel, the ion conductivity was not significantly lower with respect to the gels based on the other copolymers. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Novel star‐shaped hard–soft triblock copolymers, 4‐arm poly(styrene)‐block‐poly [poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ethyl methacrylate]‐block‐poly{x‐[(4‐cyano‐4′‐biphenyl) oxy] alkyl methacrylate} (4PS‐PPEGMA‐PMAxLC) (x = 3, 10), with different mesogen spacer length are prepared by atom‐transfer radical polymerization. The star copolymers comprised three different parts: a hard polystyrene (PS) core to ensure the good mechanical property of the solid‐state polymer, and a soft, mobile poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ethyl methacrylate] (PPEGMA) middle sphere responsible for the high ionic conductivity of the solid polyelectrolytes, and a poly{x‐[(4‐cyano‐4′‐biphenyl)oxy]alkyl methacrylate} with a birefringent mesogens at the end of each arm to tuning the electrolytes morphology. The star‐shaped hard–soft block copolymers fusing hard PS core with soft PPEGMA segment can form a flexible and transparent film with dimensional stability. Thermal annealing from the liquid crystalline states allows the cyanobiphenyl mesogens to induce a good assembly of hard and soft blocks, consequently obtaining uniform nanoscale microphase separation morphology, and the longer spacer is more helpful than the shorter one. There the ionic conductivity has been improved greatly by the orderly continuous channel for efficient ion transportation, especially at the elevated temperature. The copolymer 4PS‐PPEGMA‐PMA10LC shows ionic conductivity value of 1.3 × 10?4 S cm?1 (25 °C) after annealed from liquid crystal state, which is higher than that of 4PS‐PPEGMA electrolyte without mesogen groups. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study demonstrates that adding clay that was organically modified by dimethyldioctadecylammonium chloride (DDAC) and d2000 surfactants increases the ionic conductivity of polymeric electrolyte. A.C. impedance, differential scanning calorimetric (DSC), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) studies revealed that the silicate layers strongly interact with the dopant salt lithium perchlorate (LiClO4) within a poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)/clay/LiClO4 system. DSC characterization verified that the addition of a small amount of the organic clay reduces the glass‐transition temperature of PEO as a result of the interaction between the negative charge in the clay and the lithium cation. Additionally, the strength of such a specific interaction depends on the extent of PEO intercalation. With respect to the interaction between the silicate layer and the lithium cation, three types of complexes are assumed. In complex I, lithium cation is distributed within the PEO phase. In complex II, lithium cation resides in an PEO/exfoliated‐clay environment. In complex III, the lithium cation is located in PEO/agglomerated‐clay domains. More clay favors complex III over complexes II and I, reducing the interaction between the silicate layers and the lithium cations because of strong self‐aggregation among the silicate layers. Notably, the (PEO)8LiClO4/DDAC‐modified clay (DDAC‐mClay) composition can form a nanocomposite electrolyte with high ionic conductivity (8 × 10?5 S/cm) at room temperature. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
