Spruce sulphite cellulose (number average degree of polymerization 620) dissolved in an aqueous solution of 8% (w/w) LiOH*H2O and 12% (w/w) urea was methylated with dimethyl sulphate (DMS). By varying the reaction temperature between 22 and 50 °C, the molar ratio between 9 and 15 mol DMS per mol anhydroglucose unit, and the reaction time from 4 to 24 h, methyl cellulose (MC) with degree of substitution (DS) values in the range of 1.07 and 1.59 was prepared. The chemical structure of MC was analysed by FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The turbidity (given in nephelometric turbidity units, NTU) of the aqueous solution of MC reached an optimum of 10 NTU for a product obtained with 12 mol DMS/mol AGU at 50 °C. GPC measurements revealed polymer degradation to a certain extent. The intrinsic viscosity and the Huggins constant k of the MC samples increased with increasing DS value. The MC samples possess k values higher than 0.8, indicating association of the polymer chain. The zero-shear viscosity decreased with increase of both temperature and the amount of methylation agent due to the depolymerization. During the heating/cooling cycle (20-90 °C) of the aqueous solutions of MC, it was observed that samples synthesized at 22 °C with DS values lower than 1.3 did not undergo phase separation in aqueous solution. Phase separation hysteresis with a precipitation temperature up to 80 °C was obtained for aqueous solutions of MC with DS values between 1.07 and 1.66 synthesized at higher temperatures. The functionalization pattern determined by GLC of the corresponding partially methylated glucitol acetates is close to randomness and comparable with those of commercial MC samples.  相似文献

Commercial cellulose ethers are usually prepared under heterogeneous reaction conditions. In contrast, this contribution also describes the derivatization under homogeneous conditions in N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide monohydrate (NMMNO*H2O) and under heterogeneous conditions after converting native cellulose to amorphous cellulose. Amorphous cellulose is prepared by dissolving cellulose in NMMNO*H2O followed by precipitation in different media. The degree of order and the porosity of the regenerated cellulose is significantly influenced by the content of water in the precipitating agent. The differences are described by measurements using wide angle X-ray scattering, solid-state 13C-NMR, mercury porosimetry, and water/liquid retention values. Three synthetic pathways (heterogeneous, heterogeneous with amorphous cellulose and homogeneous) are compared regarding the structure-property relationship of the cellulose ethers formed. Carboxymethylation, hydroxyethylation, hydroxypropylation and sulfoethylation are considered in detail. The choice of synthetic pathway has a significant influence on the degree of substitution (DS), the distribution of substituents on the level of the anhydroglucose unit (AGU), solubility behavior, and the viscosity of aqueous solutions. In general an increasing solubility and an increasing viscosity are observed from heterogeneous to heterogeneous with amorphous cellulose to homogeneous reaction conditions. There is a remarkable difference between the heterogeneously produced cellulose ethers with a DS distribution C2 ≥ C6 > C3 and the strictly homogeneous etherification in NMMNO*H2O/organic solvent systems with a DS distribution of C3 > C2 ≫ C6. This high regioselectivity at the secondary OH-groups of the AGU may be caused by the strong solvation behavior of NMMNO*H2O and thereby a protecting function at the C6-OH-group.  相似文献

Bacterial cellulose (BC) is a form of cellulose synthesized by microorganisms, which has unique structure properties and differs from plant cellulose. Up to now, chemical modification of BC has not been studied widely. This paper aims to prepare sodium bacterial cellulose sulfate (SBS) in N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF) with a ClSO3H/DMF complex as the sulfating agent. SBSs with diverse degree of sulfation (DS, 0.04–0.86) were synthesized. The system could change from heterogeneous to homogeneous during the sulfation. Regarding to the DS, the optimal ClSO3H amount and reaction time were 6 mol/mol anhydroglucose unit and 4 h, respectively. DS increased a little when increasing the temperature, while the yield decreased significantly. SBSs with DS > 0.24 were soluble in deionized water. Carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy revealed that the sulfation prefers to take place in the order of C‐6 > C‐2 > C‐3. The X‐ray diffraction profiles indicated that the crystalline structure of BC was destroyed during sulfation. BC has better reactivity than microcrystalline cellulose in both sulfation and depolymerization processes. SBS is a potential biomaterial. However, BC depolymerized obviously in present sulfation, which forbids application of SBS in material. Moisture of the reaction mixture should be removed as completely as possible to guarantee efficient sulfation and decrease depolymerization. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

An efficient method for the generation of cellulose di- and tri-acetate nano-structures is obtained through testing ferric chloride hydrate (FeCl3·6H2O) as a valuable Lewis acid catalyst with acetic anhydride under microwave irradiation. Our target was to evaluate the effects of the reaction conditions on the products' properties such as surface area and particle size distribution. It was found that changes in the degree of substitution (DS), the surface area, the degree of polymerization and the particle size distribution of the products correlated with reaction conditions. Cellulose tri-acetate nanofibers with DS of 2.94 with 98.03% yield was prepared using 200 mg of FeCl3·6H2O, 25 ml of Ac2O and 4 minutes of microwave irradiation. Also, cellulose di-acetate nanofibers were prepared with DS values ranged between 2.37 and 2.72 with yield ranged between 78.92 and 90.58%. The percentage of acetyl groups (Ac%) as well as the BET specific surface area, total pore volume, mean pore diameter, mono layer volume and the mean particle size of the products were determined. The maximum specific surface area obtained for the acetylated cellulose was about ten times larger than that measured for the commercial cotton cellulose and about six times larger than that of the commercial cellulose acetate. The lowest mean particle size (34.90 nm) was about eleven times smaller than the mean particle size of the commercial cellulose acetate (394 nm). The present work has proved that FeCl3·6H2O was a highly active catalyst for the esterification of cellulose with unexpected yields and for the formation of nanofibers with low molecular weight.  相似文献

Cold NaOH/urea aqueous dissolved cellulose was studied for the synthesis of benzyl cellulose by etherification with benzyl chloride. By varying the molar ratios of benzyl chloride to OH groups in cellulose (1.5–4.0) and reaction temperatures (65–70 °C), benzyl cellulose with a degree of substitutions (DS) in the range of 0.29–0.54 was successfully prepared under such mild conditions. The incorporation of benzyl groups into cellulose was evidenced by multiple spectroscopies, including FT IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, CP/MAS 13C NMR and XRD. In addition, the thermal stability and surface morphology of the benzyl cellulose was also investigated with regard to the degree of substitution. The results indicated that the benzyl cellulose product with a low DS (0.51) in the present study reached the same solubility in many organic solvents as compared to those prepared in heterogeneous media. After benzylation, the sample decomposed at a lower temperature with a wider temperature range, which indicated that the thermal stability of benzyl cellulose was lower than that of the native cellulose. In addition, benzylation resulted in a pronounced reduction in crystallinity as well as a fundamental alteration of morphology of the native cellulose.  相似文献

Summary: Copper and nickel nanoparticles were synthesized in the insoluble microcrystalline cellulose support by reduction of metal ions with several reducers in various media resulting in cellulose-metal nanocomposites. Wide-angle X-ray scattering results showed that supramolecular structure of cellulose did not change. Crystalline Cu2O and Cu0 nanoparticles were prepared with reducers NaBH4 and N2H4 · H2SO4, CuO nanoparticles – with cellulose itself as a reducer. Crystalline Ni0 nanoparticles were synthesized with N2H4 · 2HCl and NaBH4; Ni0 nanoparticles in amorphous form were prepared with KH2PO2 · H2O. SEM revealed large agglomerates of metal particles on the fibre surface. ASAXS and TEM have shown the nanoparticles to be in the range 5–55 nm.  相似文献

Summary: Bacterial cellulose (BC), a unique type of cellulose, with high degree of polymerization of 6 500 could be dissolved easily in the ionic liquid 1‐N‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride. For the first time, well‐soluble BC acetates and carbanilates of high degree of substitution (up to a complete modification of all hydroxyl groups) were accessible under homogeneous and mild reaction conditions. Characterization of the new BC derivatives by NMR and FTIR spectroscopy shows an unexpected distribution of the acetyl moieties in the order O‐6 > O‐3 > O‐2.

It has been reported that cellulose is better dissolved in NaOH-water when a certain amount of urea is added. In order to understand the mechanisms of this dissolution and the interactions between the components, the binary phase diagram of urea/water, the ternary urea/NaOH/water phase diagram and the influence of the addition of microcrystalline cellulose in urea/NaOH/water solutions were studied by DSC. Urea/water solutions have a simple eutectic behaviour with a eutectic compound formed by pure urea and ice (one urea per eight water moles), melting at −12.5 °C. In the urea/NaOH/water solutions, urea and NaOH do not interact, each forming their own eutectic mixtures, (NaOH + 5H2O, 4H2O) and (urea, 8H2O), as found in their binary mixtures. When the amount of water is too low to form the two eutectic mixtures, NaOH is attracting water at the expense of urea. In the presence of microcrystalline cellulose, the interactions between cellulose and NaOH/water are exactly the same as without urea, and urea is not interacting with cellulose. A tentative explanation of the role of urea is to bind water, making cellulose-NaOH links more stable. Member of the European Polysaccharide Network of Excellence (EPNOE),  相似文献

This is a report of the combined use of NIR FT Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction measurements (WAXS) to investigate the polymorphic transformation of cellulose I into cellulose II. For this reason samples of cellulose I were swelled in different concentrations of NaOH and dissolved in different molten inorganic salts hydrates (LiCl·2ZnCl2·6H2O, LiClO4·3H2O, LiSCN·2,5H2O and ZnCl2·4H2O). NIR FT Raman spectra of the alkali treated samples were recorded. They characterize the pure modifications cellulose I and II as well as mixtures of the two polymorphic phases. The results of the Raman measurements were confirmed by X-ray scattering. The paper demonstrates that FT Raman vibrational spectroscopy is a powerful, rapid analytical method which may be used to follow the polymorphic transformation of cellulose I into cellulose II.  相似文献

The heterometallic CuII‐BaII coordination polymer, namely [CuBa(tdc)2(H2O)(DMF)]n ( 1 ) (H2tdc = 2,5‐thiophenedicarboxylic acid, DMF = N,N′‐dimethylformamide), was solvothermally synthesized by the reaction of H2tdc, CuCl2 · 2H2O, and Ba(NO3)2. Single crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis reveals that compound 1 features a 3D intricate framework with the 1D channels occupied by the coordinated solvent molecules. After removing the coordinated solvent molecules, the desolvated samples of 1a exhibit high capacity for light hydrocarbons.  相似文献

New adamantane carboxylic acid esters of cellulose (adamantoylcelluloses) were synthesized homogeneously inN,N-dimethylacetamide/LiCl using differently activatedcarboxylic acid derivatives. This includes the reaction of cellulose with1-adamantoyl chloride and with adamantane-1-carboxylic acid after insitu activation with p-toluenesulfonyl chlorideand with 1,1-carbonyldiimidazole, which is a new and efficient tool. Thedegree of substitution (DS) has been determined by means of 1H NMRspectroscopy using the perpropionylated adamantoyl cellulose samples. DS valuesas high as 2.1 were achieved. The reaction efficiency was 85% and the DS can becontrolled by the molar ratio and the reaction conditions applied. The reactionoccurs faster at the primary position compared to the secondary ones. Theproducts are soluble in various organic solvents dependent on the DS.Preliminary results of subsequent modifications and properties of theadamantoylcelluloses are discussed as well.  相似文献

Water-soluble deoxy-azido cellulose derivatives were synthesized by heterogeneous carboxymethylation, applying 2-propanol/aqueous NaOH as slurry medium. The novel, carboxymethyl deoxy-azido cellulose provides a convenient starting material for the selective dendronization of cellulose via the copper-catalyzed Huisgen reaction yielding water-soluble carboxymethyl 6-deoxy-(1-N-[1,2,3-triazolo]-4-polyamidoamine) cellulose derivatives of first (degree of substitution, DS 0.51), second (DS 0.44) and third generation (DS 0.39). The novel biopolymer derivatives were characterized by FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy, intrinsic viscosity, sedimentation coefficient and weight average molar mass. Solution conformation and flexibility were estimated qualitatively using conformation zoning and quantitatively (persistence length) using the combined global method. Sedimentation conformation zoning showed a semi-flexible coil conformation and the global method applied to each carboxymethyl deoxy-azido cellulose and carboxymethyl 6-deoxy-(1-N-[1,2,3-triazolo]-4-polyamidoamine) cellulose derivative yielded persistence length all within the range of 2.8-4.0 nm with no evidence of any change in flexibility with dendronization.  相似文献

Carboxymethylation of cellulose in unconventional media   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Carboxymethylation of cellulose in the new and highly efficient aqueous solvent Ni(tren)(OH)2, [tren=tris(2aminoethyl)amine] and in melts of LiClO4· 3H2O or NmethylmorpholineNoxide (NMMNO), which is now widely applied for cellulose fibre production, was investigated. In case of Ni(tren)(OH)2, a totally homogeneous carboxymethylation of cellulose with sodium monochloroacetate, in the presence of an aqueous NaOH solution is possible for the first time. Structure analysis by means of HPLC and 1 HNMR after chain degradation showed results comparable with findings for CMC obtained by the heterogeneous slurry process, that is, a statistic distribution of substituents along the polymer chain and functionalisation of the hydroxyl groups in the order C6 C2 > C3. The etherification of cellulose in a melt of LiClO4· 3H2O, a new type of cellulose solvent, was shown to be possible and gave products of a statistic functionalisation pattern as well. In contrast, carboxymethylation starting from solutions of cellulose in NMMNO initiated with solid NaOH particles yields polymers with a nonstatistic distribution of functional groups along the chain, as observed for cellulose ethers prepared in reactive microstrctures starting from solutions of cellulose intermediates in dimethyl sulfoxide as well as of unmodified cellulose dissolved in N,Ndimethyl acetamide/LiCl.  相似文献

The novel solvent dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)/tetrabutylammonium fluoride trihydrate (TBAF . 3H(2)O) was studied for acetylation of linters cellulose. In order to control the degree of substitution (DS), acetylation of the macromolecule was carried out at different reaction time and temperature, molar ratio of reactants, as well as under variation of the concentration of TBAF . 3H(2)O in solution. Cellulose acetate (CA) was accessible with DS ranging from 0.43 to 2.77. The change in concentration of TBAF . 3H(2)O in DMSO showed a strong influence on DS. The most appropriate reaction conditions for acetylation of linters cellulose regarding maximal DS were evaluated. The structure of the CA was characterized by means of FTIR and NMR spectroscopy. The solubility of the CA depends not only on the DS but also on the reaction conditions applied, indicating a different distribution of acetate moieties both within and between polymer chains.  相似文献

2CaO·3B2O3·H2O which has non-linear optical (NLO) property was synthesized under hydrothermal condition and identified by XRD, FTIR and TG as well as by chemical analysis. The molar enthalpy of solution of 2CaO·3B2O3·H2O in HCl·54.572H2O was determined. From a combination of this result with measured enthalpies of solution of H3BO3 in HCl·54.501H2O and of CaO in (HCl+H3BO3) solution, together with the standard molar enthalpies of formation of CaO(s), H3BO3(s), and H2O(l), the standard molar enthalpy of formation of −(5733.7±5.2) kJ mol−1 of 2CaO·3B2O3·H2O was obtained. Thermodynamic properties of this compound were also calculated by a group contribution method.  相似文献

O‐(2,3‐dihydroxypropyl) cellulose (DHPC) samples were synthesized by etherification of cellulose with glycidol (GLY) in a NaOH/urea aqueous solution system under different reaction conditions, so that they had different degrees of ether substitution (DS) in both the overall and regional distributions. The characterization was made by NMR spectroscopy in order to clarify the effects of the molar ratio of in‐fed GLY to anhydroglucose unit and of the reaction temperature not only on the total and regional DSs but also on the molar substitution (MSdhp) for the multireactive dihydroxypropyl group. The evaluation of MSdhp was performed after complete propionylation of each DHPC sample. Determination of molecular weights was also conducted on the propionylated DHPCs by GPC analysis. As a preliminary extension, butyralization of DHPC was undertaken in aqueous solution by using p‐toluenesulfonic acid as catalyst together with butyraldehyde (BuA). Two‐dimensional NMR (1H–13C gHSQC) spectra measurements revealed that the products contained butyral groups, owing to dehydration‐cyclization between the BuA‐carbonyl and the duplicate hydroxyls in the side chain of DHPC. Such butyral derivatives of cellulose are expected to be a promising functional material parallel or superior to poly(vinyl butyral) available for safety glass interlayers, etc. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel cellulose solvent, 1.5 M NaOH/0.65 M thiourea aqueous solution, was used to dissolve cotton linters having a molecular weight of 10.1 × 104 to prepare cellulose solution. Regenerated cellulose (RC) films were obtained from the cellulose solution by coagulating with sulfuric acid (H2SO4) aqueous solution with a concentration from 2 to 30 wt %. Solubility of cellulose, structure, and mechanical properties of the RC films were examined by infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, 13C NMR, and tensile tests. 13C NMR analysis indicated that the novel solvent of cellulose is a nonderivative aqueous solution system. The presence of thiourea enhanced significantly the solubility of cellulose in NaOH aqueous solution and reduced the formation of cellulose gel; as a result, thiourea prevented the association between cellulose molecules, leading to the solvation of cellulose. The RC film obtained by coagulating with 5 wt % H2SO4 aqueous solution for 5 min exhibited higher mechanical properties than that with other H2SO4 concentrations and a homogenous porous structure with a mean pore size of 186 nm for free surface in the wet state. The RC film plasticized with 10% glycerin for 5 min had a tensile strength of 107 MPa and breaking elongation of 10%, and about 1% glycerin in the RC film plays an important role in the enhancement of the mechanical properties. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The ionic liquid 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (AmimCl) as a reaction medium was studied for the synthesis of cellulose benzoates by homogeneous acylation of dissolved cellulose with benzoyl chlorides in the absence of any catalysts. Cellulose benzoates with a degree of substitution (DS) in the range from about 1 to 3.0 were accessible under mild conditions. The DS of cellulose derivatives increased with the increase of the molar ratio of benzoyl chloride/anhydroglucose unit (AGU) in cellulose, reaction time, and reaction temperature. Benzoylation of cellulose with some 4-substituted benzoyl chlorides including 4-toluoyl chloride, 4-chlorobenzoyl chloride and 4-nitrobenzoyl chloride was also readily carried out under mild conditions. Furthermore, regioselectively substituted mixed cellulose esters were synthesized in this work. All products were characterized by means of FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. In addition, at the end of benzoylation of cellulose, the ionic liquid AmimCl was easily recycled. When the recycled AmimCl was used as the reaction media, the cellulose benzoate with a similar DS was obtained under comparable reaction conditions.  相似文献
