The purpose of this paper is to investigate the stress-dependent behaviour of clay during drained and undrained shearing by means of a micromechanical approach. A new micromechanical stress–strain model is developed for clay using the approach developed in earlier studies by Chang and Hicher [Chang, C.S., Hicher, P.Y., 2005. An elastic–plastic model for granular materials with microstructural consideration. International Journal of Solids and Structures 42(14), 4258–4277]. In order to model the extension test on a K0 consolidated sample, a formulation is developed to account for the stress reversal on a contact plane. The model is then used to simulate numerous stress-path tests on Lower Cromer Till and kaolin clay, including triaxial compression and extension tests, under both undrained and drained conditions, with different K0 consolidation, and different over-consolidation ratios. The applicability of the present model is evaluated through comparisons between the predicted and the measured results. The evolution of local stresses and local strains at inter-particle planes are discussed in order to explain the stress-induced anisotropy due to externally applied load. All simulations have demonstrated that the proposed micromechanical approach is capable of modelling the stress-induced anisotropy and other major features of the complex behaviour in clay.  相似文献

It is well known that geomaterials such as soils exhibit an increase in volume during shearing deformation, referred to as dilatancy. Dilatancy is a typical property of such granular materials as soils and is closely related to changes in the microstructure. Normally consolidated clay exhibits negative dilatancy or contractancy, namely, a decrease in volume during shearing. On the other hand, overconsolidated clay shows positive dilatancy, namely, an increase in volume during shearing. The aim of the present paper is to study the effects of the microstructure, such as dilatancy and permeability, on the strain localization of water-saturated clay using an elasto-viscoplastic constitutive model. Based on the non-linear kinematic hardening theory and a Chaboche type of viscoplasticity model, an elasto-viscoplastic model for both normally consolidated and overconsolidated clays is proposed; the model can address both negative and positive dilatancies. Firstly, the instability of the model under undrained creep conditions is analyzed in terms of the accelerating creep failure. The analysis shows that clay with positive dilatancy is more unstable than clay with negative dilatancy. Secondly, a finite element analysis of the deformation of water-saturated clay is presented with focus on the numerical results under plane strain conditions. From the present numerical analysis, it is found that both dilatancy and permeability prominently affect shear strain localization behavior.  相似文献

地基极限承载力与土体稳定分析的总应力分析法需要用土的总应力强度指标。三种常规室内三轴试验的固结应力状态、剪切时的应力路径和排水条件与地基土原位受荷破坏时不尽相同。本文首先建立三种典型排水条件下模拟地基土实际受力的总应力强度指标理论式 ,分析了其变化规律 ;与常规三轴试验结果进行了比较 ;分析了固结不排水条件下的强度计算途径和对应的指标 ;最后建立了两种部分排水条件下的总应力强度指标的计算式 ,分析了它们随固结的变化。  相似文献

The tendency of particles in a water-saturated granular mass to re-arrange into a denser state during cyclic shearing under pressure results in an increase in pore water pressure. The increase in the pore water pressure causes a reduction in the inner particle contact forces, and in turn easier re-arrangement of the particles. Eventually, the material loses its shear strength, partially or almost completely. In this paper, a general three-dimensional continuum mechanics model is presented for the deformation of granular materials. A physically based model is also presented for characterization of liquefaction of the water saturated granular material under undrained cyclic shearing. The model incorporates the fabric of the granular mass, which develops as the frictional granular mass is deformed in shear. It includes the coupling between shearing and excess pore water pressure. The model parameters are estimated, based on the results of cyclic shearing experiments on large hollow cylindrical samples of silica sand. Basically, the calculation results utilizing this model can embody liquefaction phenomena of the water saturated granular material under undrained cyclic shearing.  相似文献

In this study, we aim to investigate a unified modeling method for the monotonic and cyclic behaviors of sand and clay. A simple double-yield-surface model, with plastic hardening modulus and dilatancy relation being dependent on density state unlike in existing approaches,is developed by considering the location of the critical state line. The model is used to simulate the drained and undrained tests of various sands and clays under monotonic and cyclic loadings.Prediction results are compared with experimental results, which show that the proposed approach is capable of modeling the monotonic and cyclic behaviors of sand and clay.  相似文献

The elastoplastic model in the deviatoric stress space is constructed to describe the cyclic undrained creeping behaviour of soft clays under cyclic stress by using Mises yield criterion and the concept of a field of hardening moduli. Furthermore, the effect of model parameters on the deformation is studied, and a method is given to determine quantitatively model parameters from results of cyclic triaxial tests of the saturated soft clay. It is known that a high degree of anisotropy in the constitutive behaviour of a solid may result in the loss of hyperbolicity of the dynamic equations in the form of either complex-conjugate or purely imaginary characteristic wave speeds (flutter ill-posedness and shear band formation, respectively). In the present paper we investigate the characteristic wave speeds in the dynamic problem for a transversely isotropic fluid-saturated porous solid. Three cases are considered: a dry solid and a saturated solid under locally undrained and drained conditions. It is shown that, for given constitutive parameters of the solid skeleton, the dynamic problem for a drained solid may become ill-posed due to the flutter-type loss of hyperbolicity, while the dynamic equations for a dry and an undrained solids remain hyperbolic. For a given solid skeleton, the characteristic wave speeds are strongly influenced by the pore fluid compressibility which, in turn, is extremely sensitive to the presence of a small amount of free gas.  相似文献

Silty sand is a soil mixture with coarse grains and fine grains. Experimental observations have shown that small amount of fines may reduce the undrained shear strength significantly. The purpose of this paper is to propose a micromechanical model for the stress–strain behavior of silty sand influenced by fines under drained and undrained conditions. The micromechanical stress–strain model accounts for the influence of fines on the density state of the soil mixture, thus consequently affect the critical state friction angle and the amount of sliding between particles. The present model is examined by simulating typical drained and undrained tests in conventional triaxial conditions. The simulated stress–strain curves are compared with the measured results on samples made of Ottawa sand and Foundry sand with various amounts of fines. The predictive ability of the present model for simulating the behavior of silty sand is discussed.  相似文献

对高强度榴弹钢50SiMnVB和58SiMn的破片机理进行了研究。破片的表面形貌和组织变化表明,在初始阶段,榴弹内壁破片裂纹沿法线与半径方向呈/4夹角的平面绝热剪切而形成。50SiMnVB钢的晶界弱化使其临界绝热剪切应变小于58SiMn钢,从而表现出两者破片质量分布的差异。  相似文献

An anisotropic clay plasticity constitutive model is extended to include a non-associative flow rule for the successful simulation of the response under undrained loading for some normally consolidated sensitive clays, including possible softening response, without altering otherwise the simple basic structure of the formulation. The model has been developed within the framework of critical state soil mechanics (CSSM) for the triaxial space. The model's structure deviates, in general, from the particular premises of CSSM in regards to a unique critical state line in the space of void ratio and effective pressure, in order to simulate observed experimental data.  相似文献

降雨入渗容易造成边坡滑坡自然灾害,含水率是影响土体抗剪强度的关键因素之一。本文以滑坡区红黏土为研究对象,制作了5组不同含水率的土样,并在不同垂直压力下进行快速剪切实验,得到每组对应的剪切强度参数,研究了含水率与剪切强度参数之间的关系。利用实验所得到的土工参数进行高地下水位边坡稳定性数值模拟,拟合得到边坡坡顶含水率与边坡安全系数的关系。结果表明:含水率从10%增加到25%,红黏土强度指标粘聚力、内摩擦角约分别下降50%和30%;含水率与粘聚力和内摩擦角间均呈半对数关系;边坡坡顶含水率增加导致边坡安全系数近似成二次曲线下降趋势。  相似文献

The stress–strain response of over-consolidated soft soil, e.g., clay, is dependent on its pre-consolidation history and material state. In this study, a state-dependent constitutive model for over-consolidated soft soils is proposed by extending the fractional plasticity originally developed for granular soil. The state-dependent stress-dilatancy and peak failure behaviour of over-consolidated soft soil are analytically captured through stress-fractional gradient of the current yielding surface. In addition, a reference yielding surface describing the pre-consolidation history of soft soil is proposed. A combined hardening rule expressed as a function of both the incremental plastic volumetric and shear strains is suggested. To validate the proposed model, a series of drained and undrained test results of different soft soils with a wide range of over-consolidation ratios are simulated and compared. It is found that without using additional plastic potentials and state parameters, the developed fractional model can capture the state-dependent hardening and softening responses of soft soils subjected to different over-consolidation states.

Experiments show that silts and silty soils exhibit contraction followed by dilation during shearing and the slope of failure line decreases at large strains, termed as phase transformation behaviour. This paper is to develop a new micromechanical stress-strain model that accounts for the phase transformation behaviour by explicitly employing the phase transformation line and its related friction angles. The overall strain includes plastic sliding and plastic compression among grains. The internal-friction angle at the phase transformation state and the void state variable are employed to describe the phase transformation behaviour. The model is examined by simulating undrained and drained triaxial compression tests performed on Pitea silts. The local stress-strain behaviour for contact planes is also investigated.  相似文献

Results are reported for pressure–shear plate impact experiments in which pre-cracked 4340 steel plates are subjected to Mode II loading. Experiments show the propagation of a shear band ahead of the initial crack. Finite element simulations are used to interpret the results. Normal and transverse velocity–time profiles measured at the rear surface of the target can be simulated reasonably well using even an elastic model for the material response. A propagating shear band is obtained when the material is modeled as having reduced shearing resistance described by a thermo-viscoplastic power law, and complete loss of shearing resistance when the shear strain reaches a critical value. However, the predicted speed of propagation of the tip of the shear band is substantially less than required to explain the lengths of the bands observed in the experiments. Adjustments of parameters of the power-law model have little effect on the overall length of the band. Possible reasons for differences between predicted and measured shear band speeds are examined. Further reduction in the shearing resistance in the shear band appears to be essential for the simulated bands to be as long as those observed in the experiments.  相似文献

粘性土的残余强度是边坡稳定性评价、桩基与土的相互作用机理研究及填土边坡设计中的重要参数。本文在综述大量文献的基础上,结合香港大屿山火山岩风化残坡积土的残余强度试验研究,分析了残余强度的测试方法和影响残余强度的因素。研究结果表明,残余强度与有效法向应力间具有明显的非线性关系;与单剪测试结果相比,多级剪测试结果明显偏高。  相似文献

In this paper a method of analysis for the drained and undrained behaviour of a saturated soil with an elastic anisotropic skeleton is proposed. The method depends upon embedding the problem in a series of problems depending upon a parameter, then expanding the solution in terms of that parameter. The method has the advantage that both the drained and undrained behaviour can be found simultaneously and the problems of a singular stiffness matrix usually associated with undrained behaviour of an elastic soil is avoided.  相似文献

暴雨条件诱发的浅层坡残积土质斜坡破坏的机理受控于土体在低有效围压条件下的应力应变特性。1993年11月4~5日,香港大屿山地区特大局部性暴雨导致在120km2范围内产生自然滑坡泥石流800余处,且绝大多数发生于火山岩风化坡残积土地区。本文对火山岩风化坡残积土开展了室内偏压固结不排水剪和偏压固结常剪应力排水剪试验,揭示了该类土的应力应变特性;在此基础上,分析了暴雨滑坡泥石流的形成机理和过程。  相似文献

Instabilities in inelastic saturated porous media are investigated here for general three-dimensional states under quasi-static loadings using a perturbation approach and focussing in particular on the two limiting cases of the onset of growth and of blowing up of perturbations.For associative flow rules for the skeleton, both onset of growth and blowing up of perturbations depend only on the underlying drained properties. Unbounded growth is obtained when the condition of localization for the underlying drained deformation (singularity of the drained acoustic tensor) is approached or just passed. Onset of growth has always a divergence growth character and critical conditions are always associated to the shortwavelength regime leading to the fact that the failure mode is expected to be a localized one.For non-associative behaviour of the skeleton we show in contrast that the onset of growth and unbounded growth may be defined either by the drained or undrained properties. One or the other depends on the details of the constitutive behaviour but also on the type of loadings. In particular, unbounded growth occurs when either the condition of localization under drained or undrained conditions is first passed. Transition from decaying to growing behaviour may have a divergence character or flutter-type character. Here the critical conditions are associated either to the shortwavelength or to the longwavelength regimes and therefore the failure mode may be localized or diffuse.The hierarchy between criticality of drained and undrained properties is analysed for a general class of constitutive equations and the results are fully and explicitly illustrated for saturated porous media with skeleton obeying Drucker-Prager like constitutive model.  相似文献

This work used a modified direct shear apparatus, created newly by the authors, to explore effects of the gap between shear box halves and specimen size on the shear resistance of coarse-grained soil. The shear boxes of this apparatus were assembled from a series of steel structures capable of superimposition and nesting. Such characteristics facilitated variation of specimen size in both diameter and height. The new device can also maintain a constant gap during shearing. We performed a series of gap-effect and size-effect tests for two uniformly graded, coarse-grained soil samples. The test results showed that both the gap space and specimen size had significant influences on shear resistance of the coarse-grained soil. Further, analysis of variations in shear strength indices led to a reasonable gap dimension and specimen size of the two soil samples.  相似文献
