Planar laser Rayleigh scattering (PLRS) from condensed CO2 particles is used to visualize flow structure in a Mach 5 wind tunnel undergoing unstart. Detailed flow features such as laminar/turbulent boundary layers and shockwaves are readily illustrated by the technique. A downstream transverse air jet, inducing flow unchoking downstream of the jet, is injected into the free stream flow of the tunnel, resulting in tunnel unstart. Time sequential PLRS images reveal that the boundary layer growth/separation on a surface with a thick turbulent boundary layer, initiated by the jet injection, propagates upstream and produces an oblique unstart shock. The tunnel unstarts upon the arrival of the shock at the inlet. In contrast, earlier flow separation on the opposite surface, initially supporting a thin laminar boundary layer, is observed when a jet induced bow shock strikes that surface. The resulting disturbance to this boundary layer also propagates upstream and precedes the formation of an unstart shock.  相似文献

The supersonic combustion RAM jet (SCRAM jet) engine is expected to be used in next-generation space planes and hypersonic airliners. To develop the engine, stabilized combustion in a supersonic flow field must be attained even though the residence time of flow is extremely short. A mixing process for breathed air and fuel injected into the supersonic flow field is therefore one of the most important design problems. Because the flow inside the SCRAM jet engine has high enthalpy, an experimental facility is required to produce the high-enthalpy flow field. In this study, a detonation-driven shock tunnel was built to produce a high-enthalpy flow, and a model SCRAM jet engine equipped with a backward-facing step was installed in the test section of the facility to visualize flow fields using a color schlieren technique and high-speed video camera. The fuel was injected perpendicularly to a Mach 3 flow behind the backward-facing step. The height of the step, the injection distance and injection pressure were varied to investigate the effects of the step on air/fuel mixing characteristics. The results show that the recirculation region increases as the fuel injection pressure increases. For injection behind the backward-facing step, mixing efficiency is much higher than with a flat plate. Also, the injection position has a significant influence on the size of the recirculation region generated behind the backward-facing step. The schlieren photograph and pressure histories measured on the bottom wall of the SCRAM jet engine model show that the fuel was ignited behind the step.Communicated by K. Hydrogen injection has been investigated numerically in a flow configuration caused by strong shock–boundary layer interaction named Viscous Mach Interaction (VMI). The geometry that leads to this configuration is used as a hypersonic inlet. The subsonic zone, because of boundary layer detachment, allows hydrogen to be injected along the wall of the central body where combustion processes occur along a slip line when hydrogen is mixed with the incoming air flow far from the wall of the central body.  相似文献

Experimental investigations employing Planar Laser-induced fluorescence visualisation of the qualitative distribution of the OH radical (OH-PLIF), coupled with surface pressure measurements, have been made of flow in a generic, nominally two-dimensional inlet-injection radical farming supersonic combustion scramjet engine model. The test flows were provided by a hypersonic shock tunnel, and covered total enthalpies corresponding to the flight Mach number range 8.7–11.8 and approximately 150 kPa dynamic pressure. The surface pressure measurements displayed radical farming behaviour, that is a series of adjacent high and low pressure regions corresponding to successive shock/expansion structures, with no significant combustion-induced pressure rise until the second structure. OH-PLIF imaging between the first two structures provides the first direct experimental evidence of significant OH radical concentrations upstream of the ignition point in this mode of scramjet operation and shows that combustion reactions were occurring in highly localised regions in a complex turbulent and poorly micromixed fuel/air mixing layer confined to the fuel injection side of the combustor.  相似文献

喷流干扰是高超声速飞行高精度控制的一种有效手段,研究者们以往大部分都主要集中于连续流条件下喷流干扰效应的机理研究,并给出了喷流干扰流场的典型结构,而稀薄流条件下喷流干扰特性的实验数据还十分匮乏.本文利用JFX爆轰激波风洞产生高超声速稀薄自由流,基于平板模型开展不同喷流压力和自由来流参数对横向喷流干扰特性影响的实验研究,采用高速纹影成像及图像处理技术,获得稀薄流条件下喷流干扰流场演化过程及流场结构的变化规律.相比于无喷流条件形成的流场,横向喷流与稀薄自由流相互作用形成的流场结构更为复杂,喷流压力由于受到稀薄来流的扰动,斜激波会短暂穿透喷流干扰流场并延伸至楔形体上部.喷流干扰流场内桶状激波的影响范围随着喷流压力的升高而逐渐变宽,位于三波点上游的斜激波空间位置不会随喷流压力的变化而改变,而位于三波点下游的弓形激波则向上游移动,当喷流压力过低时,桶状激波不会与其他两种激波交汇形成三波点.高超声速稀薄来流压力的降低同样会使桶状激波的影响范围变宽,弓形激波同样也会向上游移动,但基本不会对斜激波空间位置产生任何影响.  相似文献

A scramjet combustor with double cavitybased flameholders was experimentally studied in a directconnected test bed with the inflow conditions of M = 2.64,Pt = 1.84 MPa,Tt = 1 300 K.Successful ignition and selfsustained combustion with room temperature kerosene was achieved using pilot hydrogen,and kerosene was vertically injected into the combustor through 4×φ 0.5 mm holes mounted on the wall.For different equivalence ratios and different injection schemes with both tandem cavities and parallel cavities,flow fields were obtained and compared using a high speed camera and a Schlieren system.Results revealed that the combustor inside the flow field was greatly influenced by the cavity installation scheme,cavities in tandem easily to form a single side flame distribution,and cavities in parallel are more likely to form a joint flame,forming a choked combustion mode.The supersonic combustion flame was a kind of diffusion flame and there were two kinds of combustion modes.In the unchoked combustion mode,both subsonic and supersonic combustion regions existed.While in the choked mode,the combustion region was fully subsonic with strong shock propagating upstream.Results also showed that there was a balance point between the boundary separation and shock enhanced combustion,depending on the intensity of heat release.  相似文献

Several MW-class spallation neutron sources are being developed in the world. Specifically, intensive and high energy protons are injected into heavy liquid metals (mercury, lead or lead-bismuth eutectic) to induce the spallation reaction that produces neutrons. At the moment when the proton beams are injected, thermal shock occurs in the liquid metal, causing pressure waves to propagate in the liquid metal, collide against the container and damage it.It is proposed that microbubbles are injected into the liquid metal to mitigate the impulsive pressure waves by means of absorption and attenuation effects. These effects are dependent on the relationship between bubble size and the rate of pressure increase. In the present experiment, a very rapid rise in pressure in the order of MPa/μs, equivalent to the rise in pressure due to proton beam injection, was simulated by the electric discharge method in a water loop test to investigate the impulsive pressure mitigation effect of injected microbubbles. The solid wall response was measured using an accelerometer, and the dynamic responses of microbubbles were observed using an ultra-high-speed camera filming at 5 × 105 frame/s. The sound velocity in bubbly water was estimated using a differential image technique. It was confirmed from the experimental results that microbubbles are effective in reducing impulsive pressure waves and to suppressing the impact vibration of the solid wall in contact with the liquid.  相似文献

A tailored interface shock tube and an over-tailored interface shock tube were used to measure the thermal energy radiated during diesel-spray combustion of light oil, α-methylnaphthalene and cetane by changing the injection pressure. The ignition delay of methanol and the thermal radiation were also measured. Experiments were performed in a steel shock tube with a 7 m low-pressure section filled with air and a 6 m high-pressure section. Pre-compressed fuel was injected through a throttle nozzle into air behind a reflected shock wave. Monochromatic emissive power and the power emitted across all infrared wavelengths were measured with IR-detectors set along the central axis of the tube. Time-dependent radii where soot particles radiated were also determined, and the results were as follows. For diesel spray combustion with high injection pressures (from 10 to 80 MPa), the thermal radiation energy of light oil per injection increased with injection pressure from 10 to 30 MPa. The energy was about 2% of the heat of combustion of light oil at P inj = about 30 MPa. At injection pressure above 30 MPa the thermal radiation decreased with increasing injection pressure. This profile agreed well with the combustion duration, the flame length, the maximum amount of soot in the flame, the time-integrated soot volume and the time-integrated flame volume. The ignition delay of light oil was observed to decrease monotonically with increasing fuel injection pressure. For diesel spray combustion of methanol, the thermal radiation including that due to the gas phase was 1% of the combustion heat at maximum, and usually lower than 1%. The thermal radiation due to soot was lower than 0.05% of the combustion heat. The ignition delays were larger (about 50%) than those of light oil. However, these differences were within experimental error.

Injection from portholes upstream of the combustion chamber was investigated as a method of delivering fuel into a scramjet. This method reduces the viscous drag on a model by allowing a reduction in the length of the combustion chamber. At experimental enthalpies of 3.0 MJ/kg in the T4 shock tunnel, there was no evidence of combustion in the intake, either by shadowgraph or pressure measurements. Direct-injection spark-ignition (DISI) gasoline engines have been spotlighted due to their high thermal efficiency. Increase in the compression ratio that result from the heat absorption effect of fuel vaporization induces higher thermal efficiency than found in port fuel injection (PFI) engines. Since fuel is injected at the cylinder directly, various fuel injection strategies can be used. In this study, turbulent intensity was improved by a double injection strategy while maintaining mixture homogeneity. To analyze the turbulence enhancement effects using the double injection strategy, a side fuel injected, homogeneous-charge-type DISI gasoline engine with a multi-hole-type injector was utilized. The spray model was evaluated using experimental data for various injection pressures and the combustion model was evaluated for varied ignition timing. First and second injection timing was swept by 20 degree interval. The turbulent kinetic energy and mixture inhomogeneity index were mapped. First injection at the middle of the intake stroke and second injection early in the compression stroke showed improved turbulent characteristics that did not significantly decrease with mixture homogeneity. A double injection case that showed improved turbulent intensity while maintaining an adequate level of mixture homogeneity and another double injection case that showed significantly improved turbulent intensity with a remarkable decrease in mixture homogeneity were considered for combustion simulation. We found that the improved turbulent intensity increased the flame propagation speed. Also, the mixture homogeneity affected the pressure rise rate.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted using the newly developed table-top, hand-operated hypersonic shock tunnel, otherwise known as the Reddy hypersonic shock tunnel. This novel instrument uses only manual force to generate the shock wave in the shock tube, and is designed to generate a freestream flow of Mach 6.5 in the test section. The flow was characterized using stagnation point pressure measurements made using fast-acting piezoelectric transducers. Schlieren visualization was also carried out to capture the bow shock in front of a hemispherical body placed in the flow. Freestream Mach numbers estimated at various points in the test section showed that for a minimum diameter of 46 mm within the test section, the value did not vary by more than 3 % along any cross-sectional plane. The results of the experiments presented here indicate that the device may be successfully employed for basic hypersonic research activities at the university level.  相似文献

Three-dimensional supersonic turbulent flow in the presence of symmetric transverse injection of round jets through slots in the walls is studied numerically. The simulation is based on Favre averaged Navier-Stokes equations solved using the Beam-Warming method. The influence of the ratio of the pressure in the jet to that in the flow (pressure ratio) on the spatial interaction of the injected jet with the oncoming flow is studied. Experimental pressure distributions on the wall near the jet approximated by curvilinear closed ellipses are reproduced numerically. The mechanism of the formation of two symmetric vortices in the mixing layer between the jet and the oncoming flow is studied. The results of the calculations are found to be in satisfactory agreement with the experimental dependence of the length of the separation zone on the pressure ratio of the jet to the flow.  相似文献

The problem of detonation initiation in a supersonic flow of a stoichiometric propane-air mixture occupying partially or completely the cross-section of a plane channel is considered. The initiation in the flow is produced by a step or a wall completely cutting off the flow. The study is conducted within the framework of one-stage combustion kinetics. A numerical method based on the Godunov scheme is employed. The critical conditions for detonation formation are determined in terms of the oncoming flow velocity. A previously unknown mechanism of detonation propagation is found; it is related with the presence of the combustible mixture in the wall layer under an inert gas layer. It is due to the formation of a complicated wave structure of the flow characterized by the penetration of a shock wave formed in the inert gas layer into a combustible mixture layer ahead of the detonation wave with the result that the latter layer is heated and ignited. The process as a whole is periodic in nature, as distinct from the conventional cellular detonation in a homogeneous fluid. Many problems arise in connection with the use of detonation in engines and other power plants. The most important among them are detonation excitation and stabilization in combustion chambers. The detonation initiation within a layer under conditions of unbounded space and a fluid at rest was experimentally investigated in [1]. In the case of a combustion chamber bounded in the transverse direction, some new effects accompanying the detonation might be expected.  相似文献

以熔铸型含铝混合炸药熔奥梯铝为对象,研究铸装含铝混合炸药快速热点火后的燃烧转爆轰特性。建立了快速热点火燃烧转爆轰实验平台,由实验装置(加热装置、约束钢管、炸药)、压力测试系统、光纤测速系统组成;加热装置加热15 mm厚45钢钢板,峰值温度大于1 100 ℃,温升速率为85~95 ℃/s。开展了快速热点火带壳熔奥梯铝炸药燃烧转爆轰实验,由加热装置加热约束钢管内熔奥梯铝炸药,炸药化学反应阵面压力和传播速度分别由压电性高压压力传感器和光纤探针测定;实测阵面压力约1 GPa,传播速度最大约2 600 m/s。由光纤数据获得炸药化学反应阵面传播轨迹,通过特征线方法获得冲击形成点,半定量给出冲击形成距离大于850 mm;并比较了管体破片质量实测值与炸药完全爆轰时破片平均质量计算值,实测值远小于计算值。综合实测化学反应阵面传播速度和压力、冲击形成距离分析、破片质量比较,可确定熔奥梯铝炸药没有发生完全爆轰,其化学反应状态为爆燃。另外,采用Adams和Pack模型、CJ燃烧模型,都能够半定量的预估冲击形成距离和燃烧波后压力,为实验设计提供依据,但CJ燃烧模型的计算结果更接近于实测值。  相似文献

Transverse secondary gas injection into the supersonic flow of an axisymmetric convergent–divergent nozzle is investigated to describe the effects of the fluidic thrust vectoring within the framework of a small satellite launcher. Cold-flow dry-air experiments are performed in a supersonic wind tunnel using two identical supersonic conical nozzles with the different transverse injection port positions. The complex three-dimensional flow field generated by the supersonic cross-flows in these test nozzles was examined. Valuable experimental data were confronted and compared with the results obtained from the numerical simulations. Different nozzle models are numerically simulated under experimental conditions and then further investigated to determine which parameters significantly affect thrust vectoring. Effects which characterize the nozzle and thrust vectoring performances are established. The results indicate that with moderate secondary to primary mass flow rate ratios, ranging around 5 %, it is possible to achieve pertinent vector side forces. It is also revealed that injector positioning and geometry have a strong effect on the shock vector control system and nozzle performances.  相似文献

A throat plug is a device to prevent fragments produced by the bursting of the primary diaphragm of a shock tunnel from entering the nozzle and damaging the model. An experimental study has been carried out to investigate the flow in the KAIST shock tunnel with two stationary throat plugs at primary shock velocities of 1.19 and 1.28 km/s. These shocks generate tailored conditions when helium and air are used as the driver and driven gases, respectively, at room temperature. Nozzle reservoir pressures and Pitot pressures at the nozzle exit are measured to examine the influence of the stationary throat plug on these properties. The throat plug that has an areal blockage of 6.2 % is found to have negligible effects on shock tunnel flow. However, the throat plug of 19.4 % blockage shows an appreciable influence by generating a pressure bump. Although it retards the establishment time of the nozzle flow, after the transient period, it does not cause deviation of the pressure from that for the clean nozzle configuration. It is found that the reduction of the cross-sectional area, which results from the presence of the throat plug, causes the pressure bump. By increasing the diameter of the driven tube in the region where the throat plug is located appropriately, the magnitude of the pressure bump is reduced significantly.  相似文献
