We investigate the nonlinear optical phenomena of the optical bistability and multistability via spontaneously generated coherence in an asymmetric double quantum well structure coupled by a weak probe field and a controlling field. It is shown that the threshold and hysteresis cycle of the optical bistability can be conveniently controlled only by adjusting the intensity of the SGC or the controlling field. Moreover, switching between optical bistability and multistability can be achieved. These studies may have practical significance for the preparation of optical bistable switching device.  相似文献

研制了室温CdxZn1-xTe/ZNTe多量子阱法布里-珀罗腔光双稳器件,并在该器件上观察到皮秒一级的室温激子光双稳。研究结果表明,CdZn1-xTe/ZnTe多量子阱光双稳器件的光双稳值和对比度分别为363kW/cm^2和4:1。根据CfxZn1-xTe/ZnTe多量子阱的吸收谱和激子非线性理论,归结了CdxZn1-xTe/ZnTe多量子阱光双稳的主要非线性机理为激子的饱和和吸收。  相似文献

设计并制备了一种新型的(CdZnTe,ZnS)/ZnTe复合量子阱结构.使CdZnTe量子阱中的激子有可能在短时间内隧穿到ZnS阱层,从而达到提高光双稳器件“关”速度的目的.并通过对发光特性的研究证实在我们设计的结构中横向激子隧穿的存在,从而为进一步研究超高速光开关提供了实验依据.  相似文献

We discuss the influences of two different types of mechanisms of quantum coherence on optical bistability in a semiconductor quantum well structure.In the first mechanism,only quantum coherence induced by the resonant coupling of a strong control laser is considered.In the second mechanism,the decay coherence is taken into account under the condition where the control field is weak.In two different cases,optical bistability can be obtained through choosing appropriate physical parameters.Our studies show quantum coherence makes the optical nonlinear effect of the system become stronger,which takes an important role in the process of generating optical bistability.A semiconductor quantum well with flexibility and easy integration in design could potentially be exploited in real solid-state devices.  相似文献

The characteristics of optical bistability in quantum dot vertical cavity semiconductor optical amplifier integrated with MEMS membrane have been investigated, and a closed-form model is derived taking into account the effect of the quantum dot discrete states and the membrane deflection and reflectivity. We show that small membrane deflection significantly adjusts the resonant wavelength, the contrast ratios and the hysteresis width. The shape of the input–output characteristics of the device can be adjusted to display clockwise, butterfly and counterclockwise hysteresis loops depending on the membrane deflection and the initial wavelength detuning. Our analysis reveals that the contrast ratios of the upper and lower bistable levels are totally different. Also, it has been shown that the characteristics of the bistability are strong function of the active layer linewidth enhancement factor and the membrane reflectivity.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate the optical bistability (OB) in a V-type three-level atomic system confined in a unidirectional ring cavity via incoherent pumping field. It is shown that the threshold of optical bistability can be controlled by the rate of an incoherent pumping field and by interference mechanism arising from the spontaneous emission and incoherent pumping field. We demonstrate that the optical bistability converts to optical multi-stability (OM) by the quantum interference mechanism.  相似文献

Bistability behaviors in an optical ring cavity filled with a dense V-type four-level atomic medium are theoretically investigated. It is found that the optical bistability can appear in the negative refraction frequency band, while both the bistability and multi-stability can occur in the positive refraction frequency bands. Therefore, optical bistability can be realized from conventional material to negative index material due to quantum coherence in our scheme.  相似文献

Role of Fano interference and incoherent pumping field on optical bistability in a four-level designed In Ga N/Ga N quantum dot nanostructure embedded in a unidirectional ring cavity are analyzed. It is found that intensity threshold of optical bistability can be manipulated by Fano interference. It is shown that incoherent pumping fields make the threshold of optical bistability behave differently by Fano interference. Moreover, in the presence of Fano interference the medium becomes phase-dependent. Therefore, the relative phase of applied fields can affect the behaviors of optical bistability and intensity threshold can be controlled easily.  相似文献

We investigate the optical bistability (OB) and optical multi-stability (OM) in a four-level Y-type atomic system. It is found that the optical bistability can strongly be affected by intensity and frequency detuning of coupling and probe fields. The effect of spontaneously generated coherence on phase control of the OB and OM is then discussed. It has also been shown that the optical bistability can be switched to optical multi-stability just by the quantum interference mechanism and relative phase of applied fields.  相似文献

An opto-electronic bistable device using a twisted nematic liquid crystal cell is described. The optical bistability characteristics of this device are used in a new liquid crystal light valve with bistability in cellular array structure. Experimental studies demonstrate the applications of such opto-electronic bistable devices in real-time optical information processing such as intensity limiting for contrast improvement and noise elimination, edge enhancement for pattern recognition, linear and nonlinear optical filtering (in spatial and spectral domains).  相似文献

We demonstrate, for the first time to our knowledge, optical bistability on a highly integrated silicon device, using a 5-microm-radius ring resonator. The strong light-confinement nature of the resonator induces nonlinear optical response with low pump power. We show that the optical bistability allows all-optical functionalities, such as switching and memory with microsecond time response and a modulation depth of 10 dB, driven by pump power as low as 45 microW. Silicon optical bistability relies on a fast thermal nonlinear optical effect presenting a 500-kHz modulation bandwidth.  相似文献

In this paper, the effect of plasmonic nanostructure on behavior of optical bistability and multistability in a four-level quantum system embedded in a unidirectional ring cavity has been studied. It is found that the distance between plasmonic nanostructures and a four-level quantum system is varied from 4.4 nm to 14.4 nm and has an essential role for controlling the threshold of optical bistability and multistability. Moreover, obtained results show that the group velocity of pulse propagation through the medium is strongly depended on the distance between the plasmonic nanostructure and the four-level quantum system.  相似文献

We present sideband control of optical bistability and multistability based on trichromatic electromagnetic-field induced transparency and quantum interference. Appearance or disappearance of the bistability and multistability, manipulation of the hysteresis loop widths, and switching between bistability and tristability are achieved simply by varying the sideband amplitudes or the relative phases of the sidebands to the central component.  相似文献

The manipulation of bistable curve in the infrared (IR) region has been investigated theoretically in a unidirectional ring cavity doped by a four-level InGaN/GaN quantum dot nanostructure. The four-level quantum dot nanostructure is designed numerically by using the Schrödinger and Poisson equations. By controlling the size of the quantum dot and external voltage, one can design a four-level quantum dot with appropriate energy levels which can be suitable for interaction with IR signals. It is realized that the incoherent pumping fields play an essential role in controlling the intensity threshold of optical bistability. Decoherence effects such as the dephasing rate and electron density of the quantum dot are also analyzed at the threshold of optical bistability. Our proposed model due to its important application in all-optical systems may be favorable for real experimental evolution in infrared regions.  相似文献
