基于树枝结构单元思想,提出了光频三维各向同性左手超材料球刺结构单元模型.采用金属的Drude原理,运用等效媒质理论,仿真研究了结构的电磁响应特性.在晶格间距与工作波长的比值满足等效媒质理论要求的前提下,通过调节结构单元的几何参数,发现它能在光波段出现介电常数和磁导率同时为负值的区域,实现折射率小于零的左手超材料响应特性.该模型结构简单,具有各向同性特点.研究结果为采用"由下向上"方法制备光波段的三维左手超材料指出了新的途径. 关键词: 球刺模型 光波段 三维 各向同性  相似文献

为深入了解电磁超材料中物质间相互作用关系,理论分析了金属导体线阵列宏结构嵌入单负磁导率媒质中时其等效介电常数的变化特性。数值计算和电磁仿真方法相结合,讨论了单负磁导率媒质和单负介电常数媒质的相互作用关系,提出了减小其相互作用的解决方法。仿真结果显示:将金属线阵列直接嵌入到单负磁导率媒质中时,电磁超材料传输特性在整个频段内为传输禁带;将金属线裹附一层绝缘材料后,传输禁带变为传输通带,这表明金属线阵列和单负磁导率媒质之间必须加入一种绝缘材料才能合成双负的电磁超材料。  相似文献

Metamaterials are engineered composite materials offering unprecedented control of wave propagation. Despite their complexity, effective properties can frequently be extracted by conceptualizing them as homogeneous and isotropic media with dispersive electric permittivity and magnetic permeability. For an ideal isotropic medium, strong dispersion in these properties causes wave and field vectors to form a left‐handed (E,H,k)‐frame involving backward waves, and offering control of quantities like the refractive index which may become negative. Experimental evidence exists from microwaves to the visible. Applications include sub‐wavelength‐resolution imaging, invisibility cloaking, plasmonics‐based lasers, metananocircuits, and omnidirectional absorbers. As the engineered sub‐structures must be smaller than their design wavelength, micro/nanomanufacturing is exploited from primary pattern generation over lithography to templating and molecular beam epitaxy. 3D metamaterials have been made by stacking of layers, multilayer structuring, and 3D primary pattern generation. Theory shows that full properties may build up over one or a very few layers.  相似文献

We present a two-step homogenization method for composite metamaterials. First, each layer of wires or resonators is homogenized as a slab with negative permittivity or permeability, respectively. Second, the single negative stack which results is homogenized to form the effective medium. Comparing the predictions of the first and second step can serve as a gauge of the homogeneity of the composite. We thus take a gradual approach to homogenization, asking not whether, but to what extent a composite metamaterial approaches the sought after effective medium. Our two-step approach can also capture phenomena which otherwise may be wrongly attributed to effective medium behavior. We illustrate by qualitatively reproducing and reinterpreting a set of experimental data from the literature.  相似文献

The anti-resonant phenomenon of effective electromagnetic parameters of metamaterials has aroused controversy due to negative imaginary permittivity or permeability. It is experimentally found that the negative imaginary permittivity can occur for the natural passive materials near the Fabry-Perot resonances. We reveal the nature of negative imaginary permittivity, which is correlated with the magnetoelectric coupling. The anti-resonance of permittivity is a non-inherent feature for passive materials, while it can be inherent for devices or metamaterials.Our finding validates that the negative imaginary part of effective permittivity does not contradict the second law of thermodynamics for metamaterials owing to the magnetoelectric coupling.  相似文献

We discuss optical constants in artificial metamaterials showing negative magnetic permeability and electric permittivity and suggest a simple formula for the refractive index of a general optical medium. Using the effective-field theory, we calculate the effective permeability and the refractive index of nanofabricated media composed of pairs of identical gold nanopillars with magnetic response in the visible spectrum.  相似文献

GHz left-handed metamaterials (LHMs) composed of coplanar magnetic and electric resonators were proposed in this paper. On each of the unit cells, the electric resonator is placed in the center space of the magnetic resonator. By adjusting the geometrical dimensions of the resonators, negative magnetic response of the magnetic resonator and negative electric response of the electric resonator can be tuned to be coexistent at the same frequencies. The effective constitutive parameters were retrieved. The results verified simultaneous negative permeability and permittivity as well as negative index of the proposed LHMs. Based on the above work, two- and three-dimensional LHMs that make use of coplanar magnetic and electric resonators were proposed. The work done in this paper is of great reference values in fabricating three-dimensional LHMs.  相似文献

Two types of optical metamaterials operating at near-IR and mid-IR frequencies, respectively, have been designed, fabricated by nanoimprint lithography (NIL), and characterized by laser spectroscopic ellipsometry. The structure for the near-IR range was a metal/dielectric/metal stack “fishnet” structure that demonstrated negative permittivity and permeability in the same frequency region and hence exhibited a negative refractive index at a wavelength near 1.7 μm. In the mid-IR range, the metamaterial was an ordered array of fourfold symmetric L-shaped resonators (LSRs) that showed both a dipole plasmon resonance resulting in negative permittivity and a magnetic resonance with negative permeability near wavelengths of 3.7 μm and 5.25 μm, respectively. The optical properties of both metamaterials are in agreement with theoretical predictions. This work demonstrates the feasibility of designing various optical negative-index metamaterials and fabricating them using the nanoimprint lithography as a low-cost, high-throughput fabrication approach. We report a new type of planar metamaterial consisting of a pair of homogeneous parallel plates sep arated by a thin medium. Strong magnetic response and negative effective permeability are observed in the materials at wavelengths from 6. 9 um to 5.8 um. The resonant wavelength and the value of the negative permeability can be tuned by varying the structure dimensions. Such planar metamaterials can be easily fabricated with mature thin film technology and are of great potential for device applications.  相似文献

We give a brief review of the state of the art of theoretical and experimental studies in the field of electrodynamics of resonant composite materials (metamaterials) whose dielectric permittivity or magnetic permeability or both can be negative. Principles and methods of realization of such metamaterials in the microwave range, their main distinctive electrodynamic properties, prospects for creating new systems and devices (e.g., more perfect lenses), and ways for moving towards the higher frequencies from microwaves to optics are discussed.  相似文献

Classical theory of crystals states that a medium to be considered homogeneous must satisfy the following requirements (a) the dimension of the elementary cell must be much smaller than the incident wavelength; (b) the sample must contain a large number of elementary cells, i.e. it must be macroscopic with respect to wavelength. Under these conditions, macroscopic quantities can be introduced in order to describe the optical response of the medium. We analytically demonstrate that for a symmetric elementary cell those requirements can be relaxed, and it is possible to assign a permittivity and a permeability to a composite structure, even if the metamaterial cannot be considered homogeneous under the requirements stated above. However, the effective permittivity and permeability in some cases may give rise to unphysical, effective behaviors inside the medium, notwithstanding the fact that they satisfy requirements like being Kramers-Kronig pairs, for example, and are consistent with all the linear properties outside the structure (i.e. reflection, transmission, and absorption at all frequencies). In some situations the medium is assigned a magnetic response even though the medium is not magnetically active. In particular, we demonstrate that the homogenization procedure can lead to a medium that locally violates the second principle of thermodynamics. We also show that, in the non-homogeneous regime, it is not possible to describe the nonlinear behavior of the structure using an effective parameters approach, despite the possibility to assign an effective linear refractive index.  相似文献

本文通过对高介电常数介质基于介质谐振器理论进行分析,明确了利用高介电常数介质产生负介电常数或负磁导率的途径在于介质中产生具有Lorentz谐振形式的电磁响应的电偶极子或磁偶极子,指出了这种偶极子的产生来源于电磁波在介质中形成的驻波,而左手通带的形成正是由于电偶极子和磁偶极子之间的相互影响,破坏了驻波形成的条件所实现的. 模拟结果表明,通过将尺寸相同,介电常数不同的介质进行组合,使二者电谐振和磁谐振的频率点重合从而实现左手通带,最后利用高介电常数,低损耗的陶瓷进行样品制作并测试,测试结果证实了基于这一原理实 关键词: 全介质左手材料 介质谐振器 磁偶极子 电偶极子  相似文献

In this research work, composite media based on metamaterials including random distribution of spherical nanoparticles in a polymeric foam host are suggested to achieve negative effective refractive index in the visible spectrum. For this purpose structures including single, two and three layer spherical particles are investigated. Based on simulation results, media including single layer spheres (metallic and dielectric particles) and two layer nanospheres (core–shell particles consist of metallic core and dielectric shell) based on superposition of nanoparticles with different sizes and fill fractions are proposed for desired result. In this work, to obtain optimized band with negative RI media, superposition of three layer nanoparticles and doped semiconductor are designed.

提出了一种利用含有负介电常量和磁导率张量的各向异性超常材料实现偏振分离的方法。通过分析电磁波在无损耗各向异性超常材料中的传输性质以及透射率与入射角度的关系,分类比较了由不同符号的介电常量和磁导率张量组合而成具有不同波矢面的各向异性超常材料的偏振分离特性,比较结果表明波矢面为单叶双曲面和椭球双叶双曲面的各向异性超常材料的偏振分离特性强。前者可以实现入射波中的s分量和p分量中某一分量正折射,另一分量负折射,且在一定条件下可以同时全透射,从而实现大角度偏振分离。后者在一定条件下可实现入射波中的s分量和p分量某一分量全反射,另一分量全透射,从而实现偏振分离。最后,对从各向同性介质入射到这两种各向异性超常材料中的高斯光波的传输进行了模拟计算,结果表明这两种各向异性超常材料可以实现很好的偏振分离功能,有潜力成为新型的偏振分离元件。  相似文献

A composite medium consisting of two sublattices of dielectric spherical particles of high permittivity and different radii embedded in a dielectric matrix of smaller permittivity are considered. It has been shown that such a composite medium reveals properties of an isotropic double negative media (DNG) in a limited frequency range, when resonance oscillations of HIII mode in one kind of particles and EIII mode in another kind of particles are excited simultaneously. The EIII resonance and the HIII resonance give rise to the magnetic dipole momentum and the electric dipole momentum correspondingly. Averaging the magnetic momentum and the electric momentum over the cells belonging to the appropriate spherical particles gives the negative permittivity and permeability. The model of diffraction of a plane electromagnetic wave on a dielectric sphere is presented and compared with the mixing rule based consideration. The results obtained are rather close. Distribution of the electromagnetic wave outside the sphere is calculated. Influence of the dispersion of the sphere size and the dielectric permittivity on the effective parameters of the DNG material is estimated.  相似文献

A new quantum optical mechanism to realize simultaneously negative electric permittivity and magnetic permeability is suggested. In order to obtain a negative permeability, we choose a proper atomic configuration that can dramatically enhance the contribution of the magnetic-dipole allowed transition via the atomic phase coherence. It is shown that the atomic system chosen with proper optical parameters can give rise to striking electromagnetic responses (leading to a negative refractive index) and that the atomic vapour becomes a left-handed medium in an optical frequency band. Differing from the previous schemes of artificial composite metamaterials (based on classical electromagnetic theory) to achieve the left-handed materials, which consist of anisotropic millimetre-scale composite structure units, the left-handed atomic vapour presented here is isotropic and homogeneous at the atomic-scale level. Such an advantage may be valuable in realizing the superlens (and hence perfect image) with left-handed atomic vapour.  相似文献
