Recordings of sounds underwater and in air, and of iceborne vibrations, were obtained at Northstar Island, an artificial gravel island in the Beaufort Sea near Prudhoe Bay (Alaska). The aim was to document the levels, characteristics, and range dependence of sounds and vibrations produced by drilling and oil production during the winter, when the island was surrounded by shore-fast ice. Drilling produced the highest underwater broadband (10-10,000 Hz) levels (maximum= 124 dB re: 1 microPa at 1 km), and mainly affected 700-1400 Hz frequencies. In contrast, drilling did not increase broadband levels in air or ice relative to levels during other island activities. Production did not increase broadband levels for any of the sensors. In all media, broadband levels decreased by approximately 20 dB/tenfold change in distance. Background levels underwater were reached by 9.4 km during drilling and 3-4 km without. In the air and ice, background levels were reached 5-10 km and 2-10 km from Northstar, respectively, depending on the wind but irrespective of drilling. A comparison of the recorded sounds with harbor and ringed seal audiograms showed that Northstar sounds were probably audible to seals, at least intermittently, out to approximately 1.5 km in water and approximately 5 km in air.  相似文献

Recent measurement at a previously studied location illustrates the magnitude of increases in ocean ambient noise in the Northeast Pacific over the past four decades. Continuous measurements west of San Nicolas Island, California, over 138 days, spanning 2003-2004 are compared to measurements made during the 1960s at the same site. Ambient noise levels at 30-50 Hz were 10-12 dB higher (95% CI = 2.6 dB) in 2003-2004 than in 1964-1966, suggesting an average noise increase rate of 2.5-3 dB per decade. Above 50 Hz the noise level differences between recording periods gradually diminished to only 1-3 dB at 100-300 Hz. Above 300 Hz the 1964-1966 ambient noise levels were higher than in 2003-2004, owing to a diel component which was absent in the more recent data. Low frequency (10-50 Hz) ocean ambient noise levels are closely related to shipping vessel traffic. The number of commercial vessels plying the world's oceans approximately doubled between 1965 and 2003 and the gross tonnage quadrupled, with a corresponding increase in horsepower. Increases in commercial shipping are believed to account for the observed low-frequency ambient noise increase.  相似文献

Sounds were recorded from bowhead whales migrating past Pt. Barrow, AK, to the Canadian Beaufort Sea. They mainly consisted of various low-frequency (25- to 900-Hz) moans and well-defined sound sequences organized into "song" (20-5000 Hz) recorded with our 2.46-km hydrophone array suspended from the ice. Songs were composed of up to 20 repeated phrases (mean, 10) which lasted up to 146 s (mean, 66.3). Several bowhead whales often were within acoustic range of the array at once, but usually only one sang at a time. Vocalizations exhibited diurnal peaks of occurrence (0600-0800, 1600-1800 h). Sounds which were located in the horizontal plane had peak source spectrum levels as follows--44 moans: 129-178 dB re: 1 microPa, 1 m (median, 159); 3 garglelike utterances: 152, 155, and 169 dB; 33 songs: 158-189 dB (median, 177), all presumably from different whales. Based on ambient noise levels, measured total propagation loss, and whale sound source levels, our detection of whale sounds was theoretically noise-limited beyond 2.5 km (moans) and beyond 10.7 km (songs), a model supported by actual localizations. This study showed that over much of the shallow Arctic and sub-Arctic waters, underwater communications of the bowhead whale would be limited to much shorter ranges than for other large whales in lower latitude, deep-water regions.  相似文献

A flow model in combination with a statistical-dynamical turbulence generator and a linearised Euler time-domain model for sound waves were used to simulate the effect of screen-induced turbulence on the noise level in the acoustical shadow of a screen in wind. Instead of simulating a great number of different frozen turbulence realisations, the concept of transient turbulence was successfully tested and applied. This concept is adequate to the time-domain model and reduces the computational demands. Several two-dimensional simulations allowed to isolate the individual effects of wind and screen on the propagation of 500 Hz sound waves over a 4-m high noise barrier. At a distance of 250 m from the source (240 m behind the screen) the sheltering effect of the screen and the refraction effect of the wind are in the order of 6 and 4 dB, respectively. The screen-induced turbulence leads to fluctuations in the noise level with a standard deviation of 1.2 dB and a maximum amplitude of 3 dB. However, the time averaged effect turned out to be in the order of merely 0.2 dB. The effect of the screen-induced turbulence on the average noise level behind the screen is therefore negligible.  相似文献

During the mid-1980s, calibrated measurements of ambient noise and wind speed were made in the Tongue of the Ocean in the Bahamas to quantify the spectra and statistics of wind-generated noise. This deep basin is topographically isolated from the Atlantic Ocean and, therefore, largely acoustically decoupled from the Atlantic Ocean deep sound channel. The quantitative effects of contaminating (non-surface wind-generated) noise sources within the basin were eliminated by careful measurement and robust statistical analysis methodologies. Above 500 Hz, the spectral slopes are approximately -5 dB per octave and independent of wind speed. Below 500 Hz, the ambient noise is no longer a linear function of wind speed. Below 100 Hz and for wind speeds greater than 18.5 knots (kt), the ambient noise is independent of frequency. The minimum observed ambient noise level falls 13 dB below Urick's "light shipping" level at 30 Hz and 2-5 dB below Wenz's sea state zero level through the wind-dominated portion of the spectrum. The basin's geographical isolation and the rigorous measurement and analysis methodologies employed make this two-decade-old data set a reasonable and justified proxy for pre-industrial era ocean noise levels in the 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency band.  相似文献

The variation of wind noise at hearing-aid microphones with wind speed, wind azimuth, and hearing-aid style was investigated. Comparisons were made across behind-the-ear (BTE) and completely-in-canal (CIC) devices, and between microphones within BTE devices. One CIC device and two BTE devices were placed on a Knowles Electronics Manikin for Acoustic Research. The smaller BTE device had vented plastic windshields around its microphone ports while the larger BTE device had none. The microphone output signals were digitally recorded in wind generated at 0, 3, 6, and 12 m/s at 8 wind azimuths. The microphone output signals were saturated at 12 m/s with wind-noise levels of up to 116 dB SPL at the microphone output. Wind-noise levels differed by up to 12 dB between microphones within the same BTE device, and across BTE devices by up to 6 or 8 dB for front or rear microphones, respectively. On average, wind-noise levels were lowest with the CIC device and highest at the rear microphone of the smaller BTE device. Engineering and clinical implications are discussed.  相似文献

提出了基于声学响应模型与群差分进化算法的次声管道降噪滤波器优化设计方法,在理想条件和工程实践两种情景下设计了管道滤波器的结构参数并仿真分析了降噪性能表现。结果表明:(1)理想条件下的设计结果在约0.1~0.8 Hz的频带内取得了5 dB以上的降噪性能提升,最大提升达到12 dB。(2)工程实践情景的设计结果在各种环境风速中最大可以取得约3dB的性能提升。(3)大风速条件的优化设计可应用于环境风速未知或变化较大的场景。分析结果表明所提设计方法可以有效设计管道滤波器,优化设计的管道滤波器在降噪性能上优于传统管道滤波器。   相似文献

Underwater radiated noise measurements for seven types of modern commercial ships during normal operating conditions are presented. Calibrated acoustic data (<1000 Hz) from an autonomous seafloor-mounted acoustic recorder were combined with ship passage information from the Automatic Identification System. This approach allowed for detailed measurements (i.e., source level, sound exposure level, and transmission range) on ships of opportunity. A key result was different acoustic levels and spectral shapes observed from different ship-types. A 54 kGT container ship had the highest broadband source level at 188 dB re 1 μPa@1m; a 26 kGT chemical tanker had the lowest at 177 dB re 1 μPa@1m. Bulk carriers had higher source levels near 100 Hz, while container ship and tanker noise was predominantly below 40 Hz. Simple models to predict source levels of modern merchant ships as a group from particular ship characteristics (e.g., length, gross tonnage, and speed) were not possible given individual ship-type differences. Furthermore, ship noise was observed to radiate asymmetrically. Stern aspect noise levels are 5 to 10 dB higher than bow aspect noise levels. Collectively, these results emphasize the importance of including modern ship-types in quantifying shipping noise for predictive models of global, regional, and local marine environments.  相似文献

An ocean surface wave spectrum which is used for low frequency ambient noise in deep water is proposed. It explains the mechanism of low frequency ambient noise from the theoretical relation between the spectrum of sound pressure and wave. Combining the surface wave spectrum and local wind speed in deep water, a theoretical expression of low frequency ambient noise is obtained with wave generated noise theory. Simulation results show that the wave spectrum is crucial to the intensity and the spectral slope of radiated noise spectrum,and the theoretical noise spectrum could be used to predict the ambient noise in deep water.The predicting results axe verified through the experimental data recorded by an ocean bottom seismometer that was deployed on the floor of deep water in April 2016. It is observed that the statistical noise levels from the experimental data for frequencies from 1 Hz to 100 Hz are larger than 70 dB, and the low frequency ambient noise spectrum follows the shape of inverted"N",the valley of noise spectrum is at 3-4 Hz, and the noise intensity is 70 dB. The peak of noise spectrum is at 50 Hz, and the noise intensity is 92 dB. The correlation coefficient is 0.95 between the model spectrum and measured data.  相似文献

提出了一种适用于深海低频环境噪声的波浪谱,通过声压谱和波浪谱的理论关系,分析了深海低频噪声在百赫兹以下的谱特征,解释了不同频段噪声谱的主要产生机理。将深海传播条件下海面波浪谱与海面风速相结合,利用波浪发声理论得到一种低频海洋环境噪声理论表示方法。仿真结果表明,波浪谱决定着辐射噪声谱的强度和斜率,本模型得到的理论噪声谱可以对低频海洋环境噪声进行预报。2016年的深海实验观测数据分析显示,统计的环境噪声谱级在1 Hz至100 Hz频段范围内大于70 dB,并且噪声谱在低频段呈倒“N”型,在34 Hz处为噪声谱的谷值,噪声级为70 dB,在50 Hz处为噪声谱的峰值,噪声级为92 dB,通过理论计算和实验对比,相关系数为0.95,理论结果和实验测量对比结果符合较好。   相似文献

An experiment has been conducted to determine the subjective equivalence of 1000 Hz pure tone noise and 10 Hz sinusoidal whole-body vertical vibration. Each of 20 male subjects was exposed to all 64 possible combinations of 8 levels of noise (65 dB to 100 dB SPL) and 8 levels of vibration (0·20 m/s2 r.m.s. to 1·2 m/s2 r.m.s.). The noise was presented via circumaural headphones and the vibration exposure was by means of a flat hard seat. The method of constant stimuli was used. Both stimuli were presented simultaneously for a period of ten seconds and subjects were asked to indicate whether, if they were to be presented with the combination again, they would prefer that the noise or the vibration should be reduced.It was concluded that the subjects were relatively self-consistent and that the major source of variability was due to intersubject differences. The conditions for equivalence for 50% of the subjects ranged from about 0·2 m/s2 r.m.s. at 69 dB to 1·2 m/s2 r.m.s. at 94 dB. The results are presented in a form that enables an estimate to be made of the percentage of subjects who prefer reduced noise or vibration at any of the given combinations of the two stimuli. Further studies to extend the range and establish the general applicability of these results are suggested. It is considered that such results could be employed as a guide to reducing either the noise or the vibration in some environments.  相似文献

The effective internal level of a 1-kHz tone at 50 dB SPL was estimated by measuring the forward masking produced on a 10-ms signal tone of the same frequency. Noise containing a spectral notch was then added to the masker tone, and its influence on the effective level of the tone was measured with a variety of noise levels, notch widths, and notch shapes. In experiment 1, the masker tone was centered in the spectral notch, itself centered in a 2-kHz band of noise. As the spectrum level in the noise passbands increased from 6 dB/Hz to 36 dB/Hz, signal threshold decreased, indicating a decrease in masking by the masker tone. This "unmasking" effect of the noise was attributed to suppression of the masker tone by the components in the noise. Unmasking was greatest with the narrowest spectral notch (250 Hz), and decreased to zero as the notch widened to 1500 Hz. Compared to its level when presented alone, the effective internal level of the masker tone could be reduced by up to 30 dB (250-Hz notch, 36 dB/Hz). The relative suppressive strength of individual noise components was estimated in experiment 2, in which the 1-kHz masker tone was located at one edge of a spectral notch, rather than in the center. Noise spectrum level was fixed at 16 dB/Hz. As notch width decreased to zero, on either the high-frequency or low-frequency side of the masker tone, its effective internal level was again reduced by approximately 30 dB. In a tentative analysis, the first derivative of the smoothed threshold function was taken, to provide an estimate of the relative contributions to suppression at 1 kHz of noise components between 250 and 1740 Hz.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Speech intelligibility (PB words) in traffic-like noise was investigated in a laboratory situation simulating three common listening situations, indoors at 1 and 4 m and outdoors at 1 m. The maximum noise levels still permitting 75% intelligibility of PB words in these three listening situations were also defined. A total of 269 persons were examined. Forty-six had normal hearing, 90 a presbycusis-type hearing loss, 95 a noise-induced hearing loss and 38 a conductive hearing loss. In the indoor situation the majority of the groups with impaired hearing retained good speech intelligibility in 40 dB(A) masking noise. Lowering the noise level to less than 40 dB(A) resulted in a minor, usually insignificant, improvement in speech intelligibility. Listeners with normal hearing maintained good speech intelligibility in the outdoor listening situation at noise levels up to 60 dB(A), without lip-reading (i.e., using non-auditory information). For groups with impaired hearing due to age and/or noise, representing 8% of the population in Sweden, the noise level outdoors had to be lowered to less than 50 dB(A), in order to achieve good speech intelligibility at 1 m without lip-reading.  相似文献

This work reports on investigations into the wind dependence of ambient noise in the Bay of Bengal. Ambient noise measurements were made in the shallow water of Bay of Bengal using a portable broadband, high frequency data acquisition system together with a sensitive hydrophone suspended from the measuring platform at a depth of 5 m from the surface where the ocean depth was 25 m. Periodic measurements were carried out for one year corresponding to a wind speed range between 2 m/s and 9 m/s during summer, monsoon and winter seasons. The proportionality of the noise level with wind speed for frequencies ranging from 500 Hz to 6 kHz for each season was studied. The analysis reveals that the correlation between the wind speed and the ambient noise spectrum level was higher at lower frequencies. The results of empirical fitting based on analysis were used for noise level prediction and the model predictions compare well with the measured noise level. Further it was observed that the wind generated noise level measured during summer was approximately 8 dB less than that in other seasons. On the other hand the proportionality between the noise level and the wind speed was less during winter.  相似文献

This article presents the results of a noise survey at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Results include equivalent sound pressure levels (L(eq)) as a function of location, frequency, and time of day. At all locations and all times of day, the L(eq) indicate that a serious problem exists. No location is in compliance with current World Health Organization Guidelines, and a review of objective data indicates that this is true of hospitals throughout the world. Average equivalent sound levels are in the 50-60 dB(A) range for 1 min, 1/2, and 24 h averaging time periods. The spectra are generally flat over the 63-2000 Hz octave bands, with higher sound levels at lower frequencies, and a gradual roll off above 2000 Hz. Many units exhibit little if any reduction of sound levels in the nighttime. Data gathered at various hospitals over the last 45 years indicate a trend of increasing noise levels during daytime and nighttime hours. The implications of these results are significant for patients, visitors, and hospital staff.  相似文献

The influence of whole-body vibrations, noise, and a combination of the two, caused by heavy road traffic (150 events/night) on sleep, subjectively experienced sleep quality, and performance was investigated under controlled laboratory conditions for male and female subjects 20-35 years of age. A room was built above a vibrator table, with the legs of the bed mounted directly on the table through holes in the floor. Vertical vibrations were found to be attenuated by the mattress with 20-40 dB for frequencies greater than 10 Hz, whereas horizontal vibrations were slightly amplified. It could be concluded that when traffic noise [50-dB (A) peak level] is accompanied by vibrations with peak levels of 0.24 m/s2 vertically and 0.17 m/s2 horizontally as measured on the frame of the bed (stimulus duration approximately 2 s, dominant frequency approximately 12 Hz), sleep is more disturbed than is the case when noise alone occurs. The amount of REM sleep, which was significantly reduced for the vibration level mentioned above, was even more disturbed when a higher exposure level, 0.34 m/s2 vertically and 0.24 m/s2 horizontally, was applied. The subjectively rated sleep quality was lower for the higher than for the lower vibration level. Performance in the morning was only influenced for the higher vibration level. It could be concluded that vibration exposure levels near the recommendation made in ISO-standard 2631 for the awake state disturb sleep in man.  相似文献

Shallow-water airgun survey activities off the North Slope of Alaska generate impulsive sounds that are the focus of much regulatory attention. Reverberation from repetitive airgun shots, however, can also increase background noise levels, which can decrease the detection range of nearby passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) systems. Typical acoustic metrics for impulsive signals provide no quantitative information about reverberation or its relative effect on the ambient acoustic environment. Here, two conservative metrics are defined for quantifying reverberation: a minimum level metric measures reverberation levels that exist between airgun pulse arrivals, while a reverberation metric estimates the relative magnitude of reverberation vs expected ambient levels in the hypothetical absence of airgun activity, using satellite-measured wind data. The metrics are applied to acoustic data measured by autonomous recorders in the Alaskan Beaufort Sea in 2008 and demonstrate how seismic surveys can increase the background noise over natural ambient levels by 30-45 dB within 1 km of the activity, by 10-25 dB within 15 km of the activity, and by a few dB at 128 km range. These results suggest that shallow-water reverberation would reduce the performance of nearby PAM systems when monitoring for marine mammals within a few kilometers of shallow-water seismic surveys.  相似文献

Results of field studies of underwater dynamic noise energy flux directivity at two wind speeds, 6 m/s and 12 m/s, in the 400 Hz to 700 Hz frequency band in the deep open ocean are presented. The measurements were made by a freely drifting telemetric combined system at 500 m depth. Statistical characteristics of the horizontal and vertical dynamic noise energy flux directivity are considered as functions of wind speed and direction. Correlation between the horizontal dynamic noise energy flux direction and that of the wind was determined; a mechanism of the horizontal dynamic noise energy flux generation is related to the initial noise field scattering on ocean surface waves.  相似文献

Results of underwater sounds measurement in the Shikotan’s shelf zone of the Pacific Ocean at the depth of 130 m in the range of frequencies 1.9–11000 Hz at the wind velocity from 0 to 40 m/s are presented. The statistic non-linear relation between the variations of the underwater sound levels and wind velocities has been revealed. Data on biological, seismic, as well as the sounds of rain and ice of this region are presented.  相似文献

针对船用PN10DN32三通调节阀噪声声压频谱、声指向性等声学特性规律不明确,噪声声压级是否满足使用要求的问题,基于流-固耦合理论,同时考虑流-固耦合面及流体域内的脉动声学激励源,开展阀门噪声数值模拟研究。分别对三通调节阀在80%及60%开度阀外1 m处的噪声进行数值模拟,分析研究噪声声压频谱特性及声指向性规律。结果表明:80%及60%开度下的噪声声压级分别为49.14 dB(A)、50.79 dB(A),均小于60 d B(A)的噪声限制,满足使用要求。该文为船用三通调节阀噪声数值模拟提供了理论及方法参考。  相似文献
